No, no. I got the reference. I'll make my shifty eyes larger next time.
Oh this is bad.
Attorney Dean Boland purchased innocent pictures of four juvenile girls from a Canadian stock-image website, and then digitally modified them to make it appear as if the children were engaged in sexual conduct. Boland was an expert witness for the defense in half-a-dozen child porn cases, and he made the mock-ups to punctuate his argument that child pornography laws are unconstitutionally overbroad because they could be applied to faked photos. In 2007, the tactic made Boland the defendant of a deferred federal child-porn prosecution in Ohio even though his exhibits helped clear at least one client of child-porn-related allegations. Now, a federal appeals court decision (.pdf) is reinstating a civil lawsuit by the parents of two of the girls, potentially putting Boland on the hook for a minimum $300,000 plus legal costs.
Holy fuck, what. This is seriously messed up.Edit: Another article.
I can hear the Teabaggers stampeding in the distance, carrying this story on their shoulders. And a bunch of talking heads will report this as if it were the standard instead of a hideous anomaly.
That is seriously freaking disgusting. This is probably even more disgusting.
I couldn't help but hear this when I read that.
Reporting from Tucson ?As her mother tells it, 9-year-old Brisenia Flores had begged the border vigilantes who had just broken into her house, "Please don't shoot me."But they did ? in the face at point-blank range, prosecutors allege, as Brisenia's father sat dead on the couch and her mother lay on the floor, pretending that she too had been killed in the gunfire.
Minutemen murder 9-year-old Hispanic girl + father
That's an incredible story. Yet another thing Penn & Teller were wrong about.
Pretty sure Penn was vehemently opposed to the Minutemen and called them assholes more than once though.
I, um. What?
Yemen, too. It's amazing how democracy gets started not because some foreign military swoops in to "liberate" the people, but rather because the people themselves see they have nothing to lose by revolting against authoritarianism.
Perhaps the same could be said of all personal issues.
