Those kind of free kicks can be easy stopped if the barrage is placed correctly. The most outer guy didn't even take the risk to jump in order to stop the ball. Japan did pretty nice against Denmark.

What you saw was a team that only reacted to pressure, and even then did not react quite enough to tip the balance in its favor. The last few goals were pure adrenaline-based pressing on a tired team, from a team that was not quite well attuned to playing together and had players who were definitely too old or otherwise unsuited to this kind of competition. Italy did not quite deserve to go on at this point.

Oh damn, I was one Denmark goal away from 4 points off of 2 games.

(For the record, my two early game guesses were Paraguay > New Zealand and Slovakia < Italy, so I didn't lose any points from not getting those in anyway!)
