Hakoere- Hakku- Hayar. . . ? Pronounce Touhou names!
« on: December 09, 2009, 07:48:42 PM »
This was a small fun thing we did in the #danmakufu channel on IRC. And we already had the "how do you pronounce it" but that one is not valid. Obviously it was lacking Charisma and such.

So, why don't you grab a microphone ( many CPMC people have one, don't lie to me ) and record your voice with the following names as they "would/should" sound in Japanese or pronounce them as you think it is. I am curious how every person from a different country with different languages pronounces them. So report your country and style when you are posting. Let us hear those voices.

*Helepolis looks at the mods and gods if this should perhaps earn IP for certain people. Else we just do it for the laugh and fun. No need to be shy or anything.

If you need an easy and free to use software, get Audacity and the mp3 encoder to export as mp3 ( small filesize = yay! )

Note: Please submit ONE recording. The idea is to keep it fun and natural. If you want to submit another recording it has to be in a different style/language ( like me submitting one in dutch ).

---------------- Pronounce these names in this order please:

Hakurei Reimu, Kirisame Marisa, Satsuki Rin, Cirno, Flandre Scarlet, Remilia Scarlet, Alice Margatroid, Saigyouji Yuyuko, Yakumo Yukari, Kamishirasawa Keine, Inaba Tewi, Kochiya Sanae, Moriya Suwako, Kaenbyou Rin, Komeiji Satori, Minamitsu Murasa, Hijiri Byakuren, Amakasu Barley Tenji.

-------------------

Oh yea, thread starter should give the example no? ( I'll keep a list if possible ! Mods please help me out incase I go to bed :V )

Thanks for the incident.

EDIT: Southern US accent.  I pronounced them how they were written, since I didn't feel like looking them up.

I'm an American, I do have three years of formal Japanese study.

Japanese-style: http://www.mediafire.com/?omw2omovtoj
English-style (only for those names that appear not intended to be Japanese as normally written, so Cirno through Alice on the list): http://www.mediafire.com/?hhjiziwziyt

I'm in the US.

The style is English I guess.
I'll come up with an evil scheme later. First, it's time to build a giant robot!

You can't have a good evil scheme without a giant robot!

Letty says I have weird southern slip ups sometimes.

But there is no Mode accent.

Mode: Everyone has an accent. You don't notice yours because you grew up with it, and it sounds normal. Some accents are pretty subtle until start to dissect them.

I got 2 more, Stereotypical American style and usual Vic Viper style though I had to say the names backwards from what I normally would.

Excuse the bad accent, I'm from the South but don't have a southern accent.

Well I had a try at this, in both American English and Japaneseish. I'm from northeastern United States if that means anything :V
I'm used to saying the names in Western order (ie, Marisa Kirisame as opposed to Kirisame Marisa. Reimu's the only exception, oddly enough, where I prefer the Eastern naming order).

Amakasu Barley Tenji is a funny name.

I might enter, but I'm worried ill butcher the pronounciations of some of these since I'm not completely sure on some of them

That, and you'll have to suffer with by chav-like british voice :<
