>"What's in it?" she asks, eying the box suspiciously.
>Hourai is a doll, about a foot tall. She is superbly crafted with numerous points of articulation, and quite obviously animate. She floats along side you, wearing a rather creepy grin.

> Examine self for possible historical anomalies.

>You don't notice anything unusual about yourself, but Keine did mention that if the problem would be within the city.

>Huggle hourai as you look inside the box.

>The box is empty. The rattling comes from the fact it is haunted. "No deal," says Parsee.
>She nods. "Consider it done."
>You huggle Hourai. She feels like cloth. But she returns the gesture as well as her tininess allows.

> East of the Food Market

>You give up on convincing Parsee, and head into the eastern parts of the ancient city.
>This area can be most easily summed up as the liquor district. There are quite a few bars and breweries to be found, and a number of oni here are in advanced states of inebriation. A couple of the places seem to have a few brawls going. A pub called "The Rose and Marmot" seems to be reasonably safe to visit. Up ahead, you see the wall of the cavern, with a long street running north and south along it. You suspect the northern street should lead to the Palace of the Earth Spirits. There are quite a few evil spirits flying about overhead. Obvious exits are West, NorthA, NorthB, and South.

>The evil spirits do not reply. They are too busy being evil spirits.
>You head into the pub.
>The Rose and Marmot is moderately crowded, and thankfully peaceful. The most violent thing going on is an arm wrestling match in the corner. Although that board game over there could get pretty nasty, you suspect. Over the bar, you notice a poster with Utsuho's face and the words, "Do not serve". You walk up to the bar, where Nue is serving drinks, and ask for a watered down sake. "Sure thing," she says, setting the drink in front of you, "That'll be 10☼".

>"Weird things? Well...I hear some stories from my regulars about how the south side has some kinda curse on it. The spirits seem to like it up there."

>Head to south side of town.

>You thank Nue, who gives yo a finger gun in response.
>You leave the Rose and Marmot, and go south.
>This seems to be an older part of town. The buildings are not as well-maintained, and many of them seem abandoned. Some of them are heavily charred, leading you to suspect there have been quite a few fires here. There are easily a few dozen evil spirits idly floating around here, some overhead and some snaking their way through the buildings. Two houses have their doors hanging open, one to the west that has mostly burnt to the ground and is more properly regarded as a collection of walls, and another to the east that still stands but has clearly been abandoned for some time and is falling apart. Obvious exists are North, East, and West.
