Is it weird that complete strangers are deciding the occupation of a kid before he's 1?
As someone living in the 'high-context culture' that many places in Asia have, along with the usual notion of 'shame societies', i've seen more than a few people around me who have had their careers and education decided almost entirely by social mores, third-party opinions and peer-pressure.
The Japanese are reportedly somewhat more lenient on this matter than the old 'Doctor or Engineer' character selection screen we see so often....
