I don't remember exactly... but try running the exe with Applocale japanese maybe? Also, make sure you're patching the japanese version (in case you have an english patched one), and that your folder is complete (with readmes and stuff), and you already have the latest official patch installed. In EoSD, it'll need to be with the original japanese name.
