Title: Recreation and Finality of the Solar War
Post by: Caber Knight Etch-A-Sketch on September 14, 2010, 09:45:44 PM
(Gameplay based on the Sucubus Manor Game Engine. Enjoy.)

Recreation and Finality of the Solar Way

It is the year 700 S.E. Mankind has moved beyond the boundaries of Earth and has ventured out into space. and constructed colonies on the planets and moons of the solar system. However, it is not through co-operation that this has been made so.

700 years had passed since mankind first completed the lunar colony Section 1. Frames do most of the grunt work of transportation and resource collection. Technological inovations have pushed the limits of man's potential to the point where they now stand ready to colonize Pluto, perhaps even go beyond the limits of the solar system itself. Accomplishing this such a feat would require a large amount of raw materials.

War has changed a lot since the creation of the colonies. Battle ships exchange fire with each other while Armored War Frames clash, attempting to obtain superiority in space.

Four factions stand ready to push to the fartherst point in the solar system. The only things that they are missing are the resources necessary to do so.

In the Inner Solar System, three factions compete for dominance. The Terran Munitions, the Lunar Corporation, and Martian Foundaries all fight to obtain as much of the remaining resources as is possible. While they sound like companies, they function more like nations, where the Board of Directors control many aspects of life. Terran Munitions and Martian Foundaries pride themselves on the powerful and heavily armoured machines they produce. The Lunar Corporation prides themselves in their technological advances, having developed the most powerful laser and plasma weapons known to exist.

The only power in the Outer Solar System is the Republic of Jupiter. The capital is located in the star fortress Zeus, with four hubs of economy and production located on Callisto, Io, Ganymede. and Europa. Ruling over the sector of space with an iron grip, many of the citizens feel opressed. Still, the Repulican Military is not to be contended with halfheartedly. While a unmber of their machines can be considered out-dated, there are rumors flying around that they are developing new, fiercesome weapons in preparation for a some great war.

Meanwhile, in all of this, there's you, a Frame pilot. Years ago, you were branded an enemy of the state and  exiled. You have made your home on an abandoned mining station in the asteroid belt along with a few other people who help maintain your machine. You've managed to make a living by doing some small time trade, selling raw materials to the highest paying customer. The resource war threatens your home, and all of the Solar system. As far as you know, the only way to continue surviving is to end the problem of the Solar War.

Game Mechanics

Resources: To fund your endeavors you'll need resources for various things

-Raw Materials- Used to make scrap metal or Luxury Items. Generally used in construction.

-Scrap Metal- Metal used in the construction of Space Vessels and Frames. Not necessarily damaged.

-Food Stuffs- Keeps people fed. Rationed. 1 Food Stuff used for every 5 Man Power.

-Luxury Items- Useful for maintaining morale. Best used for trading.

Man Power: People you can assign to do objectives or tasks

-Crew run the facilities and maintain your frames and space vessels

-Miners go inside the asteroids and mine out raw materials. They also go around and scavange what they can from abandoned space stations

-Defenders are needed to defend the space station. Even though you are hidden from the large threats, skirmishes often make their way into your territory, so maintain a vigilant defense

-Raiders go out and obtain scrap metal, food stuffs, and luxury items. You need working Frames and/or Space Vessels to ensure success.

Morale: It is essential that this is balanced, otherwise people will not work, and there may even be a mutiny. If the morale is too high, no one's going to work, you know. On the flip side, a high morale will make some people be able ot do things they may not normally do.

Facilities: Being on an Asteriod station can be kinda cramped. Sure, you have some facilities already, but if you want to win the game, you're going to need more things. These cost Raw Materials, Scrap Metal and sometimes Luxury Items.

Vessels: Space-faring ships. They are important to the success of your endeavors. The vary in size and function. The size of each vessel is classified as  S, A, B, C, D, E, F, and G, S being the largest.

Frames: The essential workhorse of any operation. They have two classes, AWFs ( Armoured War Frame ) and LF ( Labor Frame ) They are classified by Light, Medium, and Heavy. Size determines how many Frame Points are taken up. Frame Points are a representation of the size of the robotics bay of your base. You can have more frames than the robotics bay can support, but only some of them will be maintained monthly.

Light=1
Medium=2
Heavy=3

Wow this looks complex. Like Succubus Manor, only really complex.

Also, Upgrade Repair Bay says it takes 30 Scrap, and then 10 scrap, did you mean 30 Raw and 10 scrap?

> Build Mining Unit TM27
> Do we know of any locations we can get scrap from, even small(1-5) amounts? Do we know any effective ways of getting scrap?

Getting scrap metal is the job of the smelter. Small amounts of it can be obtained through scavanging and raiding

To put it in again, for the sake of being clear.

> Have a TM27 Mining Unit built.
> Give a little speech to our crew, nothing fancy, just a quick announcement, like "Hey guys, call me crazy if you want, but if something isn't done, the War is gonna ruin us. I say we work to doing something to end the war and probly get rich too!"

Also

> Who can be sent to scavenge for scrap? Send them.

I support the action of building the extra TM-27.

While we're at it though, we might want to get the two idle mining units to go into the mine to help with the mining.

Get the defenders to do some patrolling just to make sure everything stays safe around the station, and we might want to get the Izanagi Custom to go out and search for anything that could use a good scavenging.

If possible, get some of the crew to do a little research into potential upgrades to the frames we currently own.

Month 1 Actions

-The Defenders remain vigilant, sending small crafts to patrol the surrounding space. So far, no enemies

Quote
My friends, gather round me for a bit. Now, with the way things are going, the corporations are going to take everything that they can and blow it up. We're all in this to make money, right? This means that we're going to have to go up against them eventually. Well, I think it's about time those guys got a come-upance, don't you think?!

-You gave a speech. The men roared in unison, showing their support! +20 Morale!

-The Condor and Izanagi Custom scavanged for scrap metal.

A wrecked Lunar Corporation Labor Frame was found! The chassis is way too damaged to be salvaged and the fusion core is busted. Still, the armour should be useful. It seems to be equipped with a mining laser. With some work, the mining laser can be fixed, but the lunarian gem used to focus the laser is very valuable...

+5 Scrap

-The refinery produced 10 Scrap Metal from the Raw Materials

-The miners obtained 15 Raw materials from their endeavors

(2) LM-TM27 assigned for mining duty. +20 Raw Materials per turn.

-The crew has found a way to construct G Class and F Class Vessels. You'll need a dry Dock to construct them.

-The crew has found a way to strengthen the body of the TM27s so that they are able to enter combat. TM27m1 able to be constructed.

- 8 Food Stuffs were consumed.

- Friends of some of the crew members have joined up with you in hopes of making a living.
   +10 man power

Build a sensor dish.

All mining units go mine.

Whoever else is left that can get scrap metal should go get it.

I vote for repairing the mining laser.

Build a sensor dish.
I think we should lay off on building this week so that we can construct the Dry Dock.
All mining units go mine.

Whoever else is left that can get scrap metal should go get it.

I vote for repairing the mining laser.
All of the above sounds good.

Also, do some more research on the frames.

Get the defenders to do some more patrols.

Also, get someone to do some kind of survey in order to see what kind of upgrades we should look into regarding the main base.

We want a sensor dish. If this is a resource war, we are a target. Knowing the enemy is coming lets us hide.

How is food produced? Is there anything we can do to up production?

Unfortunately, you canot produce food yet. The only way to obtain more Food Stuffs right now is Raiding. By dedicating more people to raiding, you can potentially get more stuff, including food.

Then we definitely need to get food production or trade happening ASAP. Raiding is only going to piss off our neighbors. And if we want this stuff to work out in the long run, we cannot be pissing off our neighbors.

Month 2 Actions

-The Defenders remain vigilant, sending small crafts to patrol the surrounding space. There was an encounter with an unknown object! It appears to be a derelict satelite. Some MTV thing. It made for good target practice.

-The Condor and Izanagi Custom scavanged for scrap metal.

What luck! A derelict convoy vessel! There's plenty of scrap metal here! Tow it back and salvage what you can!

    +20 Scrap

What's a shipment of canned foods doing out here foating in space? Oh well, it's technically finders keepers.

    +5 Food Stuffs

There appears to be a stranded Terran Munitions AWF! The fusion core seems to be damaged and working at only minimum efficiency. It is most likely a mercenary's machine, as it has Lunar Beam Katanas. Curiously, the pilot is still inside!

Quote

Condor: What's this? Hey guys, take a look at this.

Izanagi: That's a Terran Frame. Look's like the fusion core is just busted. This is perfect!

Izanagi: Hey, someone's still inside!

Condor: Does it matter? We'll just tow the thing back to base, pop it open see what we can get!

-You fixed the Mining Laser. You can now use it for mining or combat.

-With the scrap metal, you constructed a sensor dish! Now you can detect any dangers coming in.

    +10 to defenders

-The refinery produced 10 Scrap Metal from the Raw Materials

-The miners obtained 35 Raw materials from their endeavors

LM-TM27 assigned for mining duty. +10 Raw Materials per turn.

- 10 Food Stuffs were consumed.

- You made a trade agreement with a nearby station. You loaded up the Skeith up with 30 Raw materials, it max payload, and sent it off. You should recieve Food Stuffs in the next month.

- The Crew has been trying to figure out how to improve the fusion cores of the Frames. It looks like they won't come up with a solution until next month.

- The men are feeling anxious about a lack of turret defenses. Unfortunately, you cannot construct effective turrets with what you have.

- The men are feeling good so far, but a place for relaxation would be nice. You can build a Relaxation Lounge, given the right materials

build the small dry dock. I expect this to give us a bigger station that we could get turrets on.

those who can scavenge go scavenge

let's not do anything with the terran frame yet.

I vote for putting the mining laser on a miner. We should get a much mined as possible.

Is there any way to assign more people to be working? if we just have to order it, I say put three into mining and two into defense. the rest are being used for the dry dock.

How are luxury items produced?

How to we increase the amount of raw material being refined? We seem to be getting plenty of raw materials but barely enough scrap metal.

continue the research on frames. I suggest for our next item of research, we get ways to acquire more scrapmetal.

I'd suggest repairing the frame as well.  It might give us a good reputation with the Terrans.  While we're at it, we might as well ask the pilot why they were out there in the first place and maybe show them around a bit.

Also, keep those patrols up and keep up with the scavenging.

Also, equip the laser to an existing TM-27

If we can make it a building, it might be smart to convert it into the Lounge.  It might even be a cheaper alternative for building one from scratch.

Also keep up the patrols, and once the Bushido is finished being repaired, send it out to aid in patrols.

actually, you can have as many vessels as you want to have. I did not say there was a limit to the number of total vessels, you know.

Note: when you get a large fleet, others will start to take notice...

construct the improved turret.

construct 1 LM-TM27

hold on to the gems for now

two newbies go to mining and three newbies go to defense

convert the luxury yacht into a scavenger

all units should, unless specified otherwise, keep current orders

For the ship name I suggest the Vulture and for the converted luxury yacht, I suggest the Throat-Warbler Mangrove

How would the fusion core increase the efficiency of each facility?

For our next item of research, I suggest a way to produce food.

I'm tempted to say Mess Hall for how. If we run out of food, we are fucked. Super fucked. Later fusion units can go to other things, but reducing consumption (I presume through more efficient use) will be very useful right now.

Unfortunately, you canot produce food yet.

We'll eventually be able to produce food. perhaps we should send another shipment of raw materials we sent to that station to get more food then.

I think we should put the core in dry dock.
Title: Re: Recreation and Finality of the Solar War
Post by: Hello Purvis on September 18, 2010, 05:37:33 AM
Dry dock's not going to be that useful for awhile. We're not going to be able to make many ships for some time, and having a lot would be a poor idea anyways. Hunger, however, is always going to be a problem, and the more we can stretch out our food, the better. It's not possible to have too much food. It's useful for barter if nothing else.
Title: Re: Recreation and Finality of the Solar War
Post by: mad on September 18, 2010, 05:59:24 AM
That would help. Bartering excess food seems like it would help us get scrapmetal at least.

Can we build two things at once? If so, we could get both upgrades going right now.

As for the frame race, I am of two minds. On one hand, we could win, and winning is awesome.

On the other hand? Winning, or even entering, is going to make us known. One of our chief defenses is that not too many people know about us. The more notoriety we get, the more raiders and such we'll have to deal with. Then, possibly, annexation attempts.

Title: Re: Recreation and Finality of the Solar War
Post by: Caber Knight Etch-A-Sketch on September 22, 2010, 12:09:56 AM
The Frame Gran Prix is a race that tests speed and handling. The last part of the Gran Prix will also test endurance. This is an opportunity for comapnies to show off their technological superiority and durability. However, the race also tests the abilities of the individual, so pilots will try to make a name for themselves in this race. There will also be vetereans of the races, some sponsored by the corporations, others from home-grown businesses.

These are the prices for each frame type. They will be applicable if you decide to participate and costs kick in on the next turn.

> Speed-tuned Frame. = 85 Raw Materials; 60 Scrap metal
> Accel-tuned Frame. = 80 Raw materials; 50 Scrap metal
> Handeling/Turning-tuned Frame. =  75 Raw Materials; 40 Scrap Metal
> All-tuned Frame. = 100 Raw Materials; 60 Scrap Metal

Prices are large due to prototyping costs, spare parts,  and frame modifications during the race. These are supposed to be high-end machines not normally used, thus it is necessariy to get it done right.. However, the race payouts are much larger.

Some of the advertised prizes are Luxurious trips to the Titan Resort and Spa, 100 of each type of Resource, 500 Luxury Items, a new Frame, a cruise on one of Earth's pristine oceans, backstage passes to see Mitokana Ayushi's latest concert, a Genstarta Pattern Fusion core for use on vessels and stations, or a Titania Pattern Fusion Core meant for use on Frames.

Post by: MysTeariousYukari on September 22, 2010, 12:20:25 AM
Hmm, I'm not really worried about pricing, but I AM worried about picking the proper frame-stat set-up. We would obviously need a Speed and Handling tuned Frame, if even possible.

For rewards, we only REALLY benefit from the resources, Luxery Items, the Frame and the 2 different Fusion Cores. The trips and such would only really work as morale boosters and such

"100 of each type of Resource" includes Luxury Items as well, correct?

Do we know if the "New Frame" counts as a Small, Medium or Large type? Could we potentially end up with access to that Frame through means other then this race, such as reasearch?

Do the Fusion Cores allow access to new tech that they are meant for, or would they function as Upgrades?
Title: Re: Recreation and Finality of the Solar War

I'm leaning towards the All-around frame right now due to obvious reasons, and the stats included in the frame include all-around endurance as well correct?

Also, it might be smart to go test every crew member on the station to see who is most qualified to pilot the frame.

For the first question, yes, that includes Luxury Items.

second question: the Frame will be a medium type. however you'll only have to worry about maintaining it during the races. It will not affect total frame points.

third question: No. This is a race-specific frame, but you can get variants when the race is done.

the fourth question: Both, but the Titania core allows new access to Frame tech, while the Genstarta will provide new Vessel Upgrades

I am split between sheltering and fixing the core. If there is a tie, I vote for sheltering.

I choose Gerald because that spoils of War looks useful

I think the Nova should escort the TWM.

Spoils of war sounds nice, but if we're going to get into fights, we should be getting into fights to win. Give it to Diana.

Also, fix the core, but allow anyone who actually wants to follow us to do so. Also swear the rest to secrecy.

Also, make an antenna, it's too cheap not to. Also an Anti-vessel turret sounds nice.

Have Diana devote some time to getting ready for this race.

All of this sounds good.

Also, get the Skeith to travel with the Condor so we can use its cargo-space to obtain more scrap metal, however leave the Skeith open to being called back to the base if cargo has to be transported.

Keep up patrols.

Agreed with these.

Keep up patrols, but make sure not to approach the white vessel.

Attempt to send the vessel a message along the lines of asking them who they are and if they'd be willing to tell us why they're there.  Do this in a curious manner and avoid sounding hostile and interrogative.  Also, ask if they need any assistance.

Lastly, investigate that message.

How many races left? Let's send some more supplies, if we can, to make sure our frame stays in proper shape.

Also, can we construct all of those things in the space of a month? Because there's no reason not to.

Build them all

Construct another Triesta

Send our race team more supplies if we can.

Can we add on research a way to support more frame points without slowing down out current research? If so, do so.

Do all of this.

Also, consider the cost of possibly reworking the Skeith into a Class E Cargo Vessel.

The Carrier has 10 frame points of it's own. It loads up on Frames and act's as a forward base, complete with it's own repair facilities and living spaces. You'll have to devote man-power once you start sending them out, unlike other vessel except for Dreadnoughts

All of this is good, although rework the Skeith anyway.

If we have enough materials, construct the Class C Carrier vessel.  Name it the Behemoth.

Unless we already have one, get the crew to research designs for an Infirmary.

Take 10 manpower from the defenders and put it towards mining.

If we have enough left over, build an O-42.

All of this sounds good.  We need to prepare for the attack.

Call back all vessels and frames and have all available combat units go on stand-by, and contact the Tiranog to ensure they're ready for the assault.

If possible, try to keep our current neutrality intact, but if fired upon we'll have to do something.

If we have enough, construct a Class E Missileboat and  name it Beretta.

So, we have a month before shits hits the fan. Let's go nuts with food. That'll help morale out a bit, and keep people strong for the crazy shit we're gonna need done.

Make sure there are good hidden shelters and stuff. If we get wiped, as long as the shelters aren't found, we can begin anew.

If at all possible, we need to do our best not to take sides. Once we're with one power, the others no longer have a reason to deal with us. Not to mention we're out here explicitly to stop it.

Suggestion: We brush off the diplomacy shoes, see if we can mediate our way out of this.

Do all of this as well.

Are there any nearby solid celestial bodies that are somewhat stationary?  If worse comes to worse, we may be able to ambush the fleet.

Suggestion: Gussy up some of our better rooms, offer to serve as a neutral ground for the fleet leaders. If this is a resource war, than neither of them should be all that interested in wasting the fuel and ships that a fleet battle would take. Especially with enemies willing to take advantage of this. Try to get an idea what both of them want.

If it turns out to be us, a trade agreement may be doable. We can use historical parallels to the failure of mercantilism for reasons why we're better off left unconquested.

The goal is to get out of this without any lasting enemies willing to toss larger fleets at us.

>"So," he begins, "I am here because you wanted to do some negotiations with us, yes? I have to ask you, what is it that you are proposing?" He asks as he takes out a cigar and lights it, puffing it gently.

> The representative puts his cigar down, folding his hands "I can assure you that we are not here for you specifically. I'm sure that you have seen the white vessel that is outside your station, correct? As embarassing at it is, you know that there are riots occuring on Europa. We believe that the white vessel is a mobile base for insurgents, trying to undo the Republic's hard work." The representative leans in a little bit. "I'm sure that you know that such dangerous people would be able to harm anyone without a second thought, fighting for their fanaticism. This means that your station would also be in danger. Thus, the reason that our fleet is coming."

The White vessel also seems to bear the insignia. There is also video of a unusual black frame fighting RoJ police forces. It appears to be  the same one that flew by you earlier in the year.

"We feel that these people are trying to cause Europa to rebel, prompting other states to rebel, and create a disunity in Jupiter. We do not want a recreation of the Civil Wars of Zeus, and thus we must stop them now. As for your request to not be caught in the middle...

You see, the position of the white vessel is far enough away to prevent most collateral damage, but our concern is that they may try to take your station hostage, in which case, we would try to help you as best as and as reasonably as we can."

> The Republic of Jupiter is probably most relatable to the Soviet Union during the A.D. time period. The government follows a loose communism government type, allowing capitalism to grow, if only slightly due to the additional taxes. They have a lot of old frames, some of them still using the bulkier Fission Core. The newer frames are heaviliy armored machines, but lack in mobility. It is the philosophy that if your sheild is strong enough, there is no need to dodge.

Some of the advocates of the Corporations throw accusations that the RoJ are backstabbers, but there is no evidence of this. After all, these same people wear aluminium hats to stop mind-readers from finding them.

> Originally, the moons and stations orbiting Jupiter were mainly independants. The large colonies on Ganemede and Europa decided to try and unite the colonies. While they were sucessful, many people still opposed the idea of a nation where the power was held on the 4 large moons around Jupiter. Disputes often appeared, climaxing into the Zeus Wars.

The people are treated well enough, comparable to the colonies of the Terran Munitions Coporation.

All faction have commited their share of attrocities.

Alright.

This is a damned if we do, damned if we don't scenario. My suggestion is that we tell the Martian forces that the Hope of Faerlion has officially requested political asylum. If they wish to continue this, they will be committing an official art of war against us without any kind of justification. Should they wish to present grievances against the Hope of Faerlion in a diplomatic manner, we would be happy to arbitrate.

Assuming no one else has any complaints, I say we go with it. There's a good chance Mars is going to want a piece of us anyways, but hopefully we'll acquit ourselves pretty well.

Out of curiosity, do we know anything about Martian ships? Like, the range on their weapons and so on? Mostly to see how effective we can expect those turrets to be.
