Since the wig came in today, have a pic of my cosplay so far!  The skirt's gonna be next, then we can worry about the little things like the ghost wisp thing on the vest, and such.
Spoiler:
I know I forgot to shave leave me alone

I was about to say that xD

I'll be cosplaying for the first time soon, already got my costume sewed and am just finishing some details like make up and shoes. I wanted to cosplay one of my favourites (Suwako or Satori) but some people in my country are really annoying and insulting when it comes to cosplay (omg, you're too _______ to be x character!). So for starters I decided to do a character with short black hair so I wouldn't need to use a wig... it came down to Nue or Murasa, but again body insecurities made the choice for me. Sometimes I think I should've gone wild and done Satori, to hell with bullies.

Anyway, I need some advice:

[attach=1]

I don't know if I should add more layers of paper to the cable in the middle to make it wider and match the rest, but it could get too heavy and break the wood, considering it's around 4kg/9lbs un-painted. What do you think? Maybe it'll look good enough even if left thin like this?

And that hat... I wanted to make it big enough to fit my head, but I've no idea how to even start it. Any ideas?

Whats the bottom hook part of the anchor made out of?
I dunno if you should widen it.... that looks like it'll take a LOT of layers of paper...

The lower part and the middle are made of wood (around 0.60 inch thickness), with styrofoam on each side.

Tengu Geta Front:

Had to get a drill press for drilling these holes perfectly straight... as drilling them by hand is extremely hard, since they're at an angle... (should have drilled em before I cut the slant i suppose).

Eh. Close enough. Too freaking hard to measure where to drill at an angle :/

Not to worry, I didn't do a clean shave when I was in my Sanae costume during Fanime this year.

I had never thought of giving cosplay a shot until I see everyone was having fun this way (there were other inspirations as well). Not wanting to be the same as everybody else, I chose Sanae. The least expecting part was...

I had a "Family Reunion" (Sanae/Suwako/Kanako). That alone is already worth my trip.

Nah, that's not so bad. So long as you do the makeup right, it compensates.

Oh hey, I remember Potato. A few of her outfits were brought up in passing elsewhere and group consensus was that they were pretty crackerjack. Group consensus was also that she looked like everyone's art teacher from middle school, which carried a humorously nostalgic feel instead of a bad one. I still don't know where the hell that thought came from.

cirnomodo - the blue and white pattern on Sanae is AMAZING, a lot of pics I see online don't bother with that so mega props for taking the time to make that happen!
(I'm assuming that's not a premade fabric or is it...?)

I bought this costume with the help of a friend and turned out quite nice. The pattern is not too dense, not too big and not too small either.

As far as I researched, Sanae is not an easy character to stand out.

Fan Prop Front:

Decided to start thinking of making an Aya-fan. The first step was to figure out what to cut, and thus this is a mockup (to scale) of everything.

Had the design printed on two tabloid pieces of paper. The size of the fan is approx 16"X12" without the handle. 16"X18" including the handle.

Bought a scroll saw, and 4$ worth of thin plywood... and two hours later:

Two more hours later with a dremel and a sanding belt:

Two more hours with a tablesaw, scrollsaw, and a belt/disk sander to make the a prototype handle (will resize it a bit less wide later):

Fan Prop Front:
Some tricky maneuvering with the table saw... plus a hastily engineered jig - to prevent me from cutting my fingers off or screwing up the piece. Jig is clever in more ways then one son. XD

Using my foot to hold up the fan while i work the camera (using a 50mm lens atm, and didn't wanna bother changing to one with a wide angle.)

And all ready for painting!

lol nice.

Problem with that is mainly lack of Space. I think adding an Arduino would add another 2-3cm to it, depending on what shields and add-ons i put on it.

However, if it was possible, i'd totally rig it with up with two sounds:
the Masterspark soundfx
"Love colored masterspark" music.

or you can make another one bigger this time disregarding the actual size of the perceived original and hook it up. It would be a waste not to go the extra mile I always say.
by the way, I am a building a crocodile head now for my cosplay.

Plan for this year's / my life's first cosplay:

Hard Mode:
Nvrnqsr Chaos

Easy Mode:
Kiritsugu

The reason I choose trench coat characters is because yeah, I love those and it is the only way I feel reasonably confident enough to cosplay in. For the cosplay itself I am approaching a tailor because like always, I prefer silk to anything else because NO I AM NOT RICH JUST REALLY SASSY AND CHOOSY that feeling.
I really would like to crossplay for my first time but I think it is a bit too daring and I am not sure if I can consider how horribly manly I look IRL. (and I am a perfectionist)

so I am planning mostly on Nero Chaos now.
http://images.wikia.com/typemoon/images/e/e5/NrvnqsrMelty.png
1. I want to do his ---> + strong kick which launches a crocodile from his torso as a prop. This will in my opinion at least due to an abundance of paper, need a frame made of thick and slim metal wires. I will then use a papier-mache to lace it over and layer by layer create the texture I need. It would be most fragile, so if anyone have better ideas...

2. This is the first time I am cosplaying but I plan to utilize two recycled manequin arms for 4th attack (arms only atm) to make the giant claw. Again I will use glue and papier mache. with what I can only hope is a plastic skin made of multiple vinyl covers to increase the girth as shown. The end result should be one or two arms which I can wear as is.

3. as an option, I plan to build a steel frame of sorts that has wires climbing in 4 different directions that are flexible to incorporate his 1st arc drive (crows) and some plastic pigeons from last year's christmas decorations will do the trick. As my current plan includes, I will need to cut away the wings neatly and repaste them with superglue, in a direction that makes the pigeons seem like swooping down to a victim from above me. This will be attached to a frame which I will likely wear on my torso. which is attached to a belt. Visualize that.

This will require me to drag a huge ass luggage while cosplaying I sure hope I won't miss out the events because of it.

Marisa and Patchouli who I mentioned in this reply will approach on the concert this Sunday (July 22nd). I will be a staff member again but not dress as Reimu. Instead I want to dress as an angel (Not Tachibana Kanade in Angel Beats).
By the way, we will make another show in Central Park (Shanghai) on July 21st. I will be Konpaku Youki.

Once I can get back to where the costume's at end of this week or so, pictures might be forthcoming.  Hopefully i'll have some stuff by then to de-hair my face first, and legs.  Mostly the face.
