What motivated you into takin admin's duties ?
I love this community and I felt that my technical skills was the best I could do to give back to this place. Before I took over management, MotK ran on a horribly outdated copy of phpBB and ended up getting spammed and rooted by some stupid weed fanatic. We were also on a decaying IRC network that died constantly. I took that opportunity to move the forums over to SMF, a relatively unknown (at the time) but highly lauded forum software. I provided a home for the IRC channel on the IRC network I had constructed for a Pangya community I was a part of. And the rest is history.
You seem to be online often,How many hour do you spend on MotK (being here or fixing stuff) ?
Vast majority of my day. I'm on here while I'm at work and usually a couple of hours when I get home. Weekends I generally take a break from all things electronic (aka I sleep all day).
Any other Programmer helps you fixing stuff on MotK ?
Nope
I mean |7hs| can code but it's essentially me running the show as far as infrastructure goes. Matsuri begs me to train him all the time but really I'm not sure how I can teach this stuff, it kind of just comes naturally to me.
why do I see so many Kosaga avatar lately why did you switched avatar ?
I let people change my avatar all the time. I can't remember the last avatar I actually chose for myself. There's also a tradition that on someone's birthday they get powers to be able to change people's avatars and they make a big deal and usually go with a theme. Vic's birthday was recently and he gave everyone Kogasa avatars.
Am I going to be punished for thinking that you are a boy? :ohdear:
Don't do it again D:<
You said members can join the YOU WA BAN groups freely, right? Why can't I do it now?
I revoked access to all the silly groups for the time being. They were getting annoying plus people were confusing them with actual banned people.
What learning advice can you give a Starcraft noob before I let you pwn me?
I have a preference for Protoss, what would be the matchup environment if we play?
It's all about spending what you earn. Train yourself to never go above 300 minerals. If you can't spend that 300-400 minerals in the next 30 seconds then you need to start thinking about expanding or building more unit production buildings. Stockpiled resource is wasted resources, if you're not building 24/7 you're not doing it right. You want to constantly be making workers. Even if you've already saturated your main you're going to need them when you expand, and the more you have to transfer immediately the much faster your economy will pick up.
Number one mistake I see a lot of people do is spend too much time babysitting their units. To be honest the most important resource in Starcraft is your attention, and there's diminishing returns for spending more time babysitting your army rather than your base. As a newbie you should honestly not pay attention to your units at all, just attack move them wherever you want them to go and focus strictly on production. This may seem counterintuitive but trust me, a stronger economy means far more than a few extra kills here and there. NEVER neglect your base for your army.
Number two mistake is the focus on build orders. While build orders are powerful they don't really teach you that much except for specific timing attacks and stuff. You should learn expansion windows and tech windows naturally. If you notice after x number of workers you have enough resources to safely expand, then do so. If you notice after x time you can safely tech up, do so. Don't get caught in this mindset you HAVE to do x at y time to win. Nothing's easier to beat than someone stuck on a script, because the moment you fall outside the script you're going to be completely lost.
I play Zerg so you're going to have your work cut out for you. Protoss has the strongest units in the game but as a result they're more expensive and can't field as many. Playing against Zerg you need to be harassing me early and often. Zerg's biggest strength is also their weakness, all units, from the mighty ultralisk to the humble drone, come from the same structure. This means I can either make workers or I can make combat units, I can't make both at the same time. Larva is the Zerg's biggest limiting resource, and given the chance Zerg wants to spend its larva on workers as much as possible.
The best situation for Zerg is to be left alone. There they can spend all their larva on workers and amass a enormous economic lead before crushing you with superior production and resources. By harassing Zerg you force them to not only spread out their attention, you force them to burn larva to create combat units. Harassing at multiple areas at once forces Zerg to spread out its units as well. Your units are better than equal food cost of Zerg units, its the massive ball and extremely fast reinforcement where Zerg wins. Divided and singled out, Zerg units will lose every time.
The other strength of Zerg is the ability to make wild tech switches very fast, so you need to keep up on scouting (even moreso than usual). Once the tech structure is up, Zerg can spawn hordes of units instantly, the only limiter being larva and resources/pop cap. One moment you could be fighting hydralisks, the next moment you're up to your ears in ultralisks and cracklings.
Wait, TSO plays starcraft? I must play with her!
I mostly play DoW2 now. I am a competitive person when it comes to games and I want to play at my best, and frankly I don't have the time to get to my peak in SC/SC2 :\
In DoW2 I'm ranked in the top 50 3v3 teams on the ladder and I'm still not satisfied >>;;
What features does the Cirno bot in #shrinemaiden have that Keine doesn't have?
Cirno's really just a simple bot for two features: forecasts from NOAA and the ability to summon Suzuran with an emergency page. Keine can do everything else Cirno does.
What is your opinion on the US's current political situation?
It sucks. While I have some philosophical objections to socialism and tend to lean libertarian, it doesn't really matter because neither major party represents anyone except themselves. They all claim to be for the people and for certain tenants of socialism or libertarian, but in reality it's just a puppet show to appease the masses. They are more than willing to sell out to corporate interests and screw over their electorate and go back on every single campaign promise they make.
I still vote, as it's my civic duty to do so and it's the only real power we the people have. But I will never vote for either of the major parties, I vote Libertarian everytime. I'm not in love with the Libertarian party either. I think a lot of their policies are nonsensical and downright irresponsible (isolationism, returning to gold standard), but we need a viable third party if just to show people you don't have to vote for the lesser of two evils. There's more than 2 answers to life's problems, why do we pretend that politics are so black and white?
re: moving -- Have you considered moving a bit farther east? It seems like a lot of people on MotK are from there, and if you couldn't find a place to stay, one of them might be willing to let you crash there for a while.
Considered it? The Mid-Atlantic area is the area I want to be in. I grew up in Maryland and the Hampton Roads area and I loved it. Really the only thing stopping me from moving out now is securing work. If I can get a job then I'm out of here.
psh more like r8
Oh I love the R8 too. The R8 Spyder is absolutely stunning but the Coupe kind of rubs me the wrong way for some reason.
Favorite Coen Brothers movie?
O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Burn After Reading was great too. I was too young to remember Fargo or The Big Lebowski all that well.
y u so lok threds befor answers r givin
I waited until noon to make mine but Gappy wasn't around :< She can still go back and answer questions and put in a final word later.
What is the criteria for picking Janitors from the submitted applications?
Trust and familiarity with the forum, staff recommendations, where we actually need help and how familiar that user is with that area. Before the SJ change SJs had staff rights so any sort of vetting a staff would go through applied here as well, although of course it's been loosened now.
Crack staff pairing! Why?
Anemone x Testing OTP The
ambiguously gay duo of Kilga and Edible comes second.
Of the BSDs, which would you prefer to use on sm.org? FreeBSD? OpenBSD? And what are your opinions on them, for use as a server distro.
Right now I'm evaluating NetBSD for use with SM.org although I also have extensive experience with FreeBSD. I just like NetBSD more because the attention paid towards portability pays off in stability. Since all code has to be portable and easy to maintain across a myriad of platforms, you don't get as many platform specific hacks and the code is cleaner overall. Of course this means there's less support for esoteric hardware and drivers but that's irrelevant on a server platform.
OpenBSD is nice for simple stuff like edge firewalls and single purpose boxes, but I think for a server handling more mainstream loads you'd be better off with Free/NetBSD. OpenBSD is a damn secure machine by default but it does have a noticable cost on performance.
