>One way it might be possible to convince people to help is if they were better off in 'our' timeline, making returning to that better for 'them.' Our Sakuya doesn't have a limp, and our Remilia might be more known/respected... but it's difficult to say.
>As such, possible negotiation fodder at the SDM: What do we know of Flandre, and what was she like in our time?

>While it might be nice to check out the changes to the town, we've been in enough trouble for having Rumia around. Head out, and watch out for Mystia this time.
There was something here once. Wonder what...

>One way it might be possible to convince people to help is if they were better off in 'our' timeline, making returning to that better for 'them.' Our Sakuya doesn't have a limp, and our Remilia might be more known/respected... but it's difficult to say.

>It does seem like a sound negotiating tactic. But it requires that they believe you really can alter history. Remilia quite flatly thought that was impossible, last you spoke.
>You don't know that Remilia was any more respected, but she certainly seemed better known. If Meiling was to be believed, virtually no one visits there, ever.

>As such, possible negotiation fodder at the SDM: What do we know of Flandre, and what was she like in our time?

>You've never met her, but what little you knew of her was more than enough to make you glad you hadn't. Even when Remilia would host a gathering, Flandre was kept at a safe distance from the gathering. You know that Reimu and Marisa at least have had some contact with her, and evidently survived the encounter. But such a dangerous power, and the moral awareness of a six year old is an unsettling combination, to say the least.

>While it might be nice to check out the changes to the town, we've been in enough trouble for having Rumia around. Head out, and watch out for Mystia this time.

>Heeding the reactions Rumia received earlier today, you take the long way out of the village, treading around the outskirts. You see a few people, but don't think anyone noticed your companion. Eventually you reach the fields on the eastern edge of the village. No one appears to be out here now. The fork in the river is further to the east. From there, the kappa village is northeast, the mountain itself north, and the path out of Kanako's domain to the south.

>You try to keep an eye out for Mystia, but you suspect that if she decides to attack again, you're not going to have much chance of seeing her coming.

>Onward to SDM.
>Fly high, to make ambush harder.

>After putting some distance between yourself and the village, you take to the skies, staying far above the treeline. This also allows you to take a somewhat more direct route to the Scarlet Devil Mansion. A sea of trees passes by underneath you as you descend from the gently elevated terrain immediately around the mountain. You can see the edge of the lake in the distance, due to the way the moonlight reflects off it. No sign of Mystia, although you can see a few faeries flittering here and there.

> Consider the possibility that our inner-clock that tells us it should be a Full Moon, is based on our Gensokyo, and doesn't mean that it would be accurate here.

>This might be possible if you had not gotten a good look at the moon last night. It really should be full now, unless the moon phases are happening much, much more slowly here. And even that would be a problem.

>Consider taking some sort of electric light with you to offer to Patchouli to help her research?

>Patchouli said that Remilia wanted her to replicate with without using actual kappa technology. Of course, this probably doesn't preclude using them as references, but it's still a moot point in reference to the outdoor lanterns you saw. They were taller than you, made of metal, and affixed to the ground. There's no way you could carry one with you. It's possible there are smaller variants somewhere, though. It might be worth a look when you return.

>Leave the faeries alone, head toward SDM.

>You leave the faeries to their own inscrutable business, and continue onward. Eventually, you are almost past the trees, and Youkai Mountain is far in the distance.

>Suddenly the air around you starts to feel charged. You think you can feel your hair starting to stand on end, and your skin tingles.

>Try to make sure Rumia doesn't crash into us.

>You stop and quickly scan everything within sight. Given how high up you are, this covers a lot of ground, but you can't see among the trees at all. There appear to be no signs of danmaku at all, nor any unusual sounds save a quiet static hum. Wait... it's getting louder. Even Rumia seems to sense it, if her sudden confused expression is any indication. Your limbs are beginning to feel a touch numb.

>You call out to Rumia and descend. The feeling does grow stronger, but not so much that it feels like you're flying directly into it.
>Then you suddenly hear an enormous cracking sound, and a backwash of energy rushes into you, throwing you off course. Everything goes black.

>Are we still awake? If so, make a concentrated effort not to fall.

>You're definitely still awake. You just can't see anything. It feels like you're in some sort of windstorm, though, and your whole body feels like it's quivering with some sort of energy.

> "Gah!"
> Try to regain ourselves and restore our vision.

>You cry out and try to right yourself, bracing against... whatever force it is that's pushing into you. You still can't see anything, though.

> "Rumia, are you their?"

>"Uwaaaaaaa!~"

> Are we in any pain? If so, which area's of our body are in pain?

>Despite the myriad of unusual and unpleasant sensations you're getting, none of them are what you would describe as actual pain, fortunately. Although you're a bit concerned it could turn that way shortly if this keeps up.

>Take inventory. Can we move?

>Inventory:

>Blue dress (currently worn)
>Origin Sign "Ephemerality 137"
>Land Sign "Three Sacred Treasures - Mirror"
>Spiritual Birth "First Pyramid"
>Ending Sign "Phantasmal Emperor"
>Future "The Next History of Phantasm"
>Scroll case (containing a message from yourself)
>Crystal Lattice
>Purse (containing 2350 yen)
>Diary (locked)
>Set of keys

>You are still capable of a full range of motion, it's just that there is a strong and chaotic pressure pushing on you from the north, and your limbs feel a little funny

>If so, can we control our flight at all? Or cancel it?

>You can still fly, or cancel your flight. However, canceling it from the top of the trees without being able to see the trees, or the ground is probably ill-advised.

>You try to reassure Remia. And yourself in the process, for that matter.
>"O- ok...." The darkness around you dissolves, and you can see, again.

>A giant wall of violet light is rising from the forest floor, a couple hundred feet north of you, rising above you into the air and for several hundred feet at least in either direction. The top edge of it is wavy, and shimmers like an aurora. Everything around you is suffused with a harsh purple glow from it.

>You definitely appear to be outside. The edge of it is still around a hundred feet away from you.

>Can we see anything especial contained within this field?

>The light and energy are practically solid at the moment. You can't see what might be inside, nor can you tell how thick it is to the other side, at this angle

>You try to fly around the other side of the energy field, while keeping your distance. It takes quite a bit more effort than usual, due to all the energy you're being buffeted with. The glare kind of hurts your eyes, too.
>To the best of your knowledge, this is just uninhabited woodland. Nothing special about it.

>Then, nearly as suddenly as it appeared, the light vanishes. It takes a moment for your eyes to adjust to the sudden darkness again. In the area where the energy burst from there is now.... nothing. No trees. No grass. It looks like a jagged black void, in this light.

>Onwards to SDM.

>With a shudder, you decide to get as far away from this place as quickly as you can. You think you can still see some slivers of violet shimmering in the depths of the blackness as you pass it by.
>It doesn't take a great deal more time to crest the edge of the forest. Then there's some more grasslands, and the lake. You land near the gate to the Scarlet Devil Mansion, deciding not to tempt provoking an incident by taking the more direct route.

>Meiling looks up from contemplating her shoes and gives a tired little sigh. "Back already?"
