(Okay, after copying most of this to Photobucket, since offsite-links were REALLY clogging up the server ...)

Quote

You aren't sure what you were thinking.

Quote
> What kind of pies are those?

Fake ones, obviously; they're just stylized DANMAKU BULLETS. Though now that you think about it, you aren't quite sure. Let's see ... Oh, yes, they are PUMPKIN PIES.

Quote
> Try moving up and down to make your bullet pattern a bit harder to dodge.

That works! It also throws off her aim.

Quote
> Cirno: Wake up.

Well, what do you know: players may precede commands with "Cirno:" to direct them at you, or "Marisa:" to direct them at her, and so forth with other characters who may or may not become playable.

Anyway, you have no idea where that thought came from, since you're obviously already awake, so you just flip the fricking-fricky-frick out.

And there she goes. Oh well, so much for that as far as both of you are concerned.

You and NITORI KAWASHIRO (a KAPPA living on YOUKAI MOUNTAIN) created the CODEC system after binging on METAL GEAR AWESOME, torrenting the PC version of METAL GEAR SOLID, and then binging on METAL GEAR AWESOME again now that you understood the jokes. The current version of KAWADEC offers many improvements over past versions, most notably the fact that you can see shit with this one. And yes, the volume-meter is, indeed, in the shape of the kanji for "KAWA" (meaning "RIVER").

The obvious choice for telling about INCIDENTS is REIMU, but she seems to have hers switched off. Let's see ... who else could you call ...

You give CIRNO a brief summary of the goings-on. You keep needing to break it down into smaller and smaller pieces so that her tiny FAIRY brain can understand it.

Regardless, today just keeps looking like it's going to get fuller and fuller, doesn't it?

This is gonna be a doozy. As a species, the KAPPA are generally too shy to stick their necks out enough to disrupt the usual order of GENSŌOKYŌ unless this consists of raising the technology-level, and even when NITORI goes into prankster-mode, it never goes into INCIDENT-territory. Certainly nothing that would amuse MIMA. She SERIOUSED THE FUCK UP when you mentioned MIMA, anyway. But then there was something about your goodbye that made her giggle. Hmm ...

Quote
> Marisa: Take mushrooms, examine if you have enough for experimentation.

You could use a few more. In addition to the USELESS BLACK SPOTTED MUSHROOM and the blue FAIRY SPIRIT MUSHROOM, you have acquired:

- A RAW ORANGE MUSHROOM and a PUCE MUSHROOM, each of which contains power that's equally useful for explosions and non-explosions (though less-powerful than the USELESS one);

- A MAUVE BLAST MUSHROOM, which seems to bring out extra non-destructive magic if you prepare it properly beforehand, and simply blows up the experiment if you don't; and

- An ICE MUSHROOM, which was the only one that suffered no damage whatsoever from being frozen (you can convert elemental magic into non-elemental magic).

Quote
> Nitori: Attempt to find Reimu.

You are now ... uh ...

Wait, what the hell? Where is she!?

Quote
> Alice: Contemplate current status of The Plan.

You are now ALICE MARGATROID. You belong to the MAGICIAN species of YOUKAI, but you were born a HUMAN -- in MAKAI, oddly enough. You live in the same house you've lived in since you moved into GENSŌKYŌ, now with KIRISAME MARISA, who is THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON IN THE WORLD to you. You are a DOLLMAKER, and you can magically control every single DOLL in the house; while they generally have some automated functions, they are all ultimately SOULLESS AUTOMATA under your direct control (or that of MARISA). You have a dream, however, of creating a sapient INDEPENDENTLY-MOVING DOLL. Your most treasured doll is named SHANGHAI (currently floating next to your head).

Your plan for the day is to experiment on SPIRITUAL ENERGY, using the spirits of blades of GRASS. (In GENSŌKYŌ, animism is a reality.) SOULS and SPIRITS and GODS may be infinitiely divided, and they may subsequently recombine their own SPIRITS, but what about two recombining the spirits of two different entities?

Current status: You have the principle well in hand, and you're almost done developing a scalable and portable SPELL for extracting, dividing, combining, and reinserting SOULS into the vessel of your choice. The only setback is having to put all your DOLLS on guard-duty, but with MIMA running around, it can't be helped, and it shouldn't be too. much trouble.

What will you do first?

> Alice: Quickly retrieve arms from stash of spare doll parts.

You've already got arms, silly!

Quote
> Alice: Wait, your plan is WHAT!?

Oh, relax, it's harmless once you restore the soul to its original vessel and completely painless. There's a FROG GODDESS on YOUKAI MOUNTAIN who splits herself off to practice DANMAKU and other techniques all the time. Nor would it be any different from any other experiments on grass. All living things have souls, yes, but it's not like they're all sapient.

Anyway, once the process is perfected, you're only going to use it once, and for a very special occasion.

Quote
> Alice: Consider recruiting someone with time-powers for the living-doll project.

You aren't sure where that idea came from, since you threw it away years ago. You understand the concept behind a TSUKUMOGAMI -- an object which has been left alone for a hundred years and thus attained sentience through sheer weight of animism, its inanimate soul (which amounts to the same thing as "soulless" for the purposes of making a dramatic distinction between a PUPPET and an INDEPENDENTLY-MOVING DOLL) becoming that of a living YOUKAI. You also know at least two people who could manipulate time so that the century passes near-instantaneously. However, the process specifically requires that the object be forgotten during that time, and you doubt you could simply forget about it while the process was going on.

Besides, a TSUKUMOGAMI is something altogether different. Apart from anything else, they form a full-sized humanoid body outside the original object; you're actually friends with a doll-TSUKUMOGAMI named MEDICINE MELANCHOLY. But she is pointedly not something someone created. TSUKUMOGAMI are the result of a fully-understood natural process. It'd be like not bothering to create artificial intelligence because you could always just go to a sperm bank without having to create any new technology.

Quote
> Alice: Check what you need for further development.

You don't craft spells; you design them and calculate them. When you develop magic, the process has a lot more in common with mathematics and quantum physics than hocus-pocus, and it shares a lot of the terminology.

All you have left to do now is the equivalent of figuring out a polynomial equation which will then feed into a modular function you've already solved. The good news is that it isn't actually going to be an NP-complete problem.

Anyone who didn't at least understand any of the above would have no hope of assisting you, which is why you're doing it on your own.

Hmm. It's getting to be around lunchtime, though. Not that you need it, being a YOUKAI, but you've gotten into the habit. Eating is just another diversion.

You don't know how that idea entered your head, either. It's true that YAKUMO YUKARI is highly skilled at both math and magic, and the same can be said of her SHIKIGAMI, RAN YAKUMO, who is also a lot less likely to be asleep, but seriously, you can do this on your own. Besides, no matter who you were going to bring in, adding someone new this late in the game will make the proverbial game more late.

It looks like lunch was already prepared hours ago. Say, before MARISA left.

It was a sarcastic statement expressing my gratitude for explaining a humorous reference in a joke that was exceedingly obvious, particularly to enthusiasts of said reference using a term that refers to one webcomic artist in particular who is notorious at explaining obvious punchlines.

YUKARI YAKUMO, as you understand it, is the co-creator of GENSŌKYŌ, or at least the HAKUREI BORDER sealing the land from the OUTSIDE WORLD back in 1884 (by the OUTSIDE WORLD's calendar). On a good day, you and your friends are reasonably amicable towards her, and you owe her for a few past happenstances, but YUKARI tends to FOOL AROUND enough and in enough ways that she's a suspicious character, even to other YOUKAI.

Put it another way: you can give her the benefit of the doubt, but it isn't clear how much doubt there is. She's also not the first person you'd expect to worry about your plans. It looks like this is going to lead to verbal STRIFE no matter what.
