I think Chobits is pretty bad from a literary standpoint.

Spoiler:
The themes is seems to be trying to establish through the various side stories is how the persocoms are replacing actual human contact and how sad that is, but then in the ending it goes and completely contradicts itself by having Chii activate the emotions of persocoms everywhere (thus putting the last nail in the coffin for human relationships) and acting like it's a good thing.

I only saw the anime though, if the ending is different in the manga would somebody be willing to spoil it for me? (I'm not willing to read it)

I'm very bad at explaining things but, uh, here goes nothing... >.>

In the manga,
Spoiler:
pretty much the exact opposite happens.  They pretty much out and out say that, no matter how humanlike they may be, Persocoms are still machines and as such are incapable of actual emotion.  It may seem like they're showing emotion sometimes, but in the end they can never exceed their programming due to being machines, and as something as complex as the human emotional spectrum can't be digitized that easily (some would argue at all), their "emotions" aren't real.  Or, um, something like that.  Chi is no exception.  It's a whole "mankind is becoming way too dependant on machines" kind of moral, if I remember right.

Um... I think that's the main gist of it.  Although it's been a while since I read it, so I may be forgetting a few details.

A contradiction like that is pretty bad. Just as sad is that I was suspecting something like that would happen. On a side note, I can't see the idea of human interaction being replaced by perfect humanoid standins as a bad thing or a good thing, you're not really gaining anything or losing anything. It's just *different*
Spoiler:
(actually, you could consider the persocoms as humans at that point, only far less flawed*)
.  As such, I disagree with both endings (It's fine!/That's not okay).

*I think the pro-human point in arguments like these would be "Humans are flawed, and that's what makes them so wonderful." - I'm not aware of any arguments that demonstrate why people opting out of human interaction is a bad thing yet. Enlightenment plz.

To the point: Still going to watch it for fun.

The Fortune Art. anime is being done by the same folks responsible for KissxSis. A part of me wonders how bad they're gonna screw this up. Aside from that and SRW, I can't say I see anything really interesting, or anything not a continuation of something I haven't seen prior.

Oh really?

With Bow Ditama as director or something?

I watched Kiss x Sis before. I don't know if they made any new episodes, but I don't care anymore. =/
I didn't like Mahoromatic either. Both were from the same guy.

I saw the DVD's for sale when I was at Toranoana. Didn't bother =/

Side Note: So Zun doesn't allow the sale of 18+ Touhou material?

Finished Chobits last night. Quick review:

SECOND HALF: Entertaining, good plot, interesting, I dare saw a tiny bit thought provoking. Probably the best part of the show.
FIRST HALF: A depressing (really) slice of life with no plot and a cute robot. Also, everything is Hideki - which explains alot.

First half was mostly introductions and fluff, yeah.  It really does pick up at the halfway point, but I thought the beginning was enjoyable enough to make it through.

That's not fair~

I asked for a tear-jerker

That was overkill!!!
You guys really know how to touch a topic I'm really sensitive to!

I loved it, every single minute of it. Who knew 30 minutes made me cry so much? Will finish the rest sometime during this week. Something like this needs to be watched on a huge TV and with an excellent sound system.

guys, give me a massive tearjerker that I haven't yet seen.
The only thing I can say for certain is Grave of Fireflies, and I'm certain you've seen it already.
Alien 9 made me do a, "What?! No!" in a sad way, but that was at the very end.

Just google a little and research into what comes up. Never seen these myself, but I'd hazard recommandations to:
Hadashi no Gen;  and Now and Then, Here and There.
