Er... I'm trying to go on the channel that Stuffman mentioned earlier, #touhou-dandy, but when I connect to dejatoons and try to join that channel, it says it doesn't exist ???

Hard to say. Are you sure you're on dejatoons? Are you familiar with IRC? We're all on there now.

Well, I'm not familiar with IRC, no. But I know I connected to dejatoons.irc.net, I used a connect menu to do so, which clearly stated it. But when I say "/join #touhou-dandy" it simply says there's no such channel.

I blame my computer. Somehow its suckiness must be responsible for this! Somehow...

...Either that or I just fail. One of the two, or perhaps a combination.

EDIT: Wait... Actually, I do notice something odd. Maybe I'm not connected to dejatoons. It says "saga.irc.net" after I connect for some reason, even when I know that I said to connect to dejatoons...

Not that I know anything about IRC either, but I'm connected to irc.dejatoons.net, not the other way around.  No idea if that makes a difference.

EDIT:
Guys, I just want to say that was a lot of fun.  And that was just the basic planning stage.  I can't wait to start playing with everyone!

Book of Exalted Deeds? I, uh, don't even know what that is x: Nor what Vow Feats are. *is clueless* Her character concept just happens to involve her being a pacifist.

Book of Exalted Deeds?

Nor what Vow Feats are.

Book of Exalted Deeds

Vow Feats

BAN VOW OF POVERTY.  NOW.

In fact, just ban the whole Exalted Deeds book.  Also, the Book of Nine Rings.

Spoiler:
I'm just kidding.  I don't know about any of the other vows but I do know that Vow of Poverty is absurdly broken.  Don't know much about the Book of Weeaboo Fightan Magic so that's really your call.

Uh, Vow of Poverty isn't that good, y'know. A fully-equipped character gets better stuff all around than a VoP one.

Depends on how generous your GM is about handing out the fancy items and whether your PC is a monk or not.  Vow of Poverty gives consistent benefits no matter what kind of campaign you're in so it kinda takes control out of the GM's hands in that regard.  Now admittedly, Vow of Poverty is only truly broken on Monks since everyone else will still have to follow the restrictions and it will cripple them.  The pacifism vow is quite a tricky one depending on what kind of campaign you play as it can really polarise the players.

By the by, I talked with Trance and Anthony on IRC about maybe running a second campaign since there's a lot of interest now and too many players in one campaign makes things difficult so we're in the market for two or three more players in compatible time zones.  That'd be great.  Setting would be a homebrew so try to keep the setting-specific classes, races, etc out of it if at all possible.

If the GM wishes to limit funds, that's fine, but then it's their responsibility to restrict VoP. As an aside, Druids also get a lot of mileage from VoP.

To be fair you're right in the sense that no one build will totally break the game without considerable effort so VoP isn't THAT bad.  Many fighter builds are vulnerable to a high-level wizard casting Hold Person or Dominate Person after all, so yeah.  You can say that anything would be good with the right equipment though, and equipment isn't consistent from campaign to campaign so when discussing builds and tiers and such, it might be easier to just leave equipment out of it save for the basics that you should theoretically be able to get anywhere.
Too much of a good thing, and it is no longer good.

Okay guys since 3.5 can be kinda broken I came up with some more house rules to lower the power of the players, just a little bit.

- Your starting gold will be the only gold you get for the entire game, so spend it wisely!
- Adjusting the rule from before, instead of half+1 of your hit dice, you will only receive 1 HP per hit dice. Including the first. (This has the added bonus of making the game more realistic, and realism is always good!)
- Everyone must take at least ten levels of Paladin, after which they will be forced to fall.
- If anybody rolls a 1, the entire party dies. How exciting!

Looking forward to seeing you all in the game!

EDIT: As a side note, Vow of Nonviolence was written for characters like Mina, but unfortunately it kicks your party members in the stomach because THEY get penalized for killing too. Which is stupid.

No. It's garbage on monks, leaves them with absolutely zero way to deal with a lot of stuff (e.g. flying enemies). It's druids that it's broken on (lol Wild Shape).

I reckon by now everyone has an idea of the fluff around their characters, so I really do feel that we should discuss on what binds them together beyond just being in the conflict together. I say this because I once played in a game where everyone had a separate agenda and separate motivations and it was essentially a trainwreck.

You guys will probably need some details of the over-arching plot before you can do that, and I don't have it sorted out yet.

I can tell you that it will involve tackling a bunch of punks trying to capitalize on the planar disaster, but I'm also working on personal reasons to get involved.

Hmm, what summon monster level would it be to summon a Celestial Gecatinous Cube?

I do not like Pathfinder. The solution to fixing a wildly broken game is not to make everyone more powerful.

My first question then would be... have you actually played around with the system?  If 3.5 is so wildly broken what's the point of even suggesting it in the first place?

Same reason people play Marvel vs Capcom 2. It's fine as long as people know what they're getting into. I've had some pretty hilarious experiences with 3.5.

I don't see any reason for me and everyone else to learn a new set of rules that's going to create compatibility issues and not actually improve the game.

14:03:42 (AtyHime) I wonder if Stuffman allows people to watch.
14:03:57 (AtyHime) If not, I sure as hell he has someone to chronicle it.
14:04:08 (Jana|Food) I think he would. He said he'd try and accommodate all 10+ of us in a campaign, so I don't see why not...

Requesting confirmation.
