On the sub-category of first Touhou doujin game, mine would be Fortune Star Panic. Weird little puzzle game with literally one song playing on a 40-second loop. Highly addictive and a lot of fun though. And the one song grows on you.

e: What am I talking about? There's a lot of great songs on this game.

My very first touhou game? I believe it was Embodiment of The Scarlet Devil. The one that I really sat down and played was Imperishable Night.

Yeah, relearning how to deathbomb after that game was fun. As was torturing my unskilled self through the game's Extra Stage.
Don't worry, I haven't gotten much better since then. Only difference now is that I let people watch me be bad on YouTube.

My first 1CC was EoSD Easy on June 16, 2012, followed by a 5-life PCB Normal 1CC on June 24, 2012 (SakuyaA OP), and finally a 3-life EoSD Normal 1CC on July 12, 2012.
Interestingly, the EoSD Normal 1CC was originally planned to be a 5-life 1CC, but I kept failing. I then switched the lives to 3 and somehow pulled off the 1CC. I've stuck with 3-life 1CCs ever since.

Wait, do the lives you start with in the options ramp up the difficulty?

No, he's saying it was a coincidence. Adding extra starting lives in the earlier games gives you a score penalty.
That being said, a "1cc" is generally accepted to be a clear with default lives (3); if you start the game with above default lives, it clearly gives you an advantage, so saying you got a 1cc without mentioning you used extra lives is misleading. Just to mention.

My first touhou danmaku game is TH 10 Mountain of Faith, got beaten badly by Kanako.
My first Touhou fangame is Megamari, by God it is hard as heck.

Embodiment of Scarlet Devil. Memorizing Stage 4 was extremely satisfying back then. I also accidentally got my first 1cc with additional starting lives. The realization was so infuriating, I'd keep playing until I scored a proper clear on the same day.

Perfect Cherry Blossom. It's probably the most defining of the entire project, with elements that had set it apart from any shooter I've encountered beforehand.
It had that unique sense from the very moment I flew into Stage 1 and still lingers to this day.

Subterranean Animism was the first 2hu game I ever played, but the last one I 1cc'ed (and still one of my favorites). I overheard some people saying it had the best gameplay, and decided to start out there. Needless to say, I got absolutely destroyed and could not figure out why Parsee kept killing me.

The first one I 1cc'ed was IN, like most people, followed by PCB and then the others. I found those games somewhat easier to get better at not only because of the forgiving mechanics, but also because they had a certain "feel" to them where I wouldn't get frustrated trying again and again.

I started with EoSD, but that didn't last long. I didn't really get "into" Touhou until I started playing Touhoumon (Merry Version, to be precise.) Since then I've started playing a lot of the original games and various spin-offs. I'm pretty proud to have gotten where I am - I can clear IN and even PCB... On easy >.>

DDC - Really attracted to this game due to being the last released at the moment. Also first 1cc. I still hate Benben's curvy lasers. And still think that Yatsu is easier.

Wow, that's an atypical first choice on the spectrum of mechanics alone. Pretty impressive! I'm curious to know what games you picked up from there. Were more typical mechanics easier for you to use?

Well, of course. GFW is a fun game, but even until now I still can't get used to different shot button and the freezing mechanic (I haven't beat the Normal mode, mind you). I mean, it's hard to focus between dodging and freezing. I don't even remember why I played that as my first 2hu, it was prolly the first game I encountered, so I played it right away.

I think I played PCB after that, and normal mode taught me a lot of things. On a side note, SA and DDC were the last 2hu shmup I collected.

If I remember correctly, I started playing EoSD first. Tried normal run and........got bullied by Cirno (Please don't look down on me. I was noob for on my early tries)

I gave up and so I played the Hisoutensoku lol
Later on I got back on it and guess what. I survived it to stage 5. Sakuya was scary though :ohdear:

My first game was IN, hence my liking towards ~~the loonies~~ Eientei and the rest of the IN crew. I found my first attempt at Stage 4 on Normal thrilling but nerve-wracking at the same time.

I believe my very first game was DDC; I guess it's because it was the newest one out at the time.

Let me tell you, DDC is not a game you would wanna start out on, it's one of the harder games out there, for me at least (assuming you don't abuse the generous POC and bomb virtually everything you see. I didn't even know about the POC, because when I played DDC, my Touhou knowledge was at 1%).

Imperishable Night was my first. Music was so good and game was fun. Needed more so I played all the games in order after that. I actually can not remember why I tried IN though.

My second game was PCB, but from there it gets kinda hazy what I played and in what order.
