Surgery wasn't required so the crack is either very minor or the body can heal it up perfectly. So he will be kicking back in action, but WC is over for him. Brazil also losing one of their key players, that sucks major.

Finally, Higuain does something good for Argentina! He was so useless in all previous games.

Looks like Belgium is freaking out pretty early after that goal, their passes and crosses aren't on target atm, and is starting to dive a bit. But so far no dives called from the ref yet.

A commentator just called Messi "Maradona". Twice.

I'm not happy with the scoreline, though. Please Belgium, start doing something. Anything.

Argentina mass-def too strong. They defended the 1-0 well. Cannot believe that Belgium was so many times off-side, it was painful to watch.

So if NL beats Costa, we face Argentina :V another tough opponent.

Argentina played the line real well, and for once their defense finally held up.

If Argentina plays just as well for the rest of the tournament (looks at Higuain and the defense), they will have no problems winning the whole thing. They just need to work on their finishes.

The enduring image I will have of this is the free kick Messi took near the end of the first half, where he got kicked in the legs by like 4 or 5 defenders and was still trying to control the ball and stay upright before he finally went down. All I could imagine was 95% of the other big names in soccer going down like they'd been shot at first contact.

So the only important thing that's happened in these quarter final matches so far is Brazil and Argentina proving they might be able to shoot for winning it all after all.

Eh, Brasil's all but done for at this point. I don't see them getting past Deutschland being down both Neymar and Silva.

Silly Dutch advice for Costa Ricans. :V

Bit of a stalemate, but I admire Costa Rica's attempts at holding back the Robben-Persie-Sneijder train. Would be more interesting to see them win, but I'm rooting NL once more. :P

Wow, Costa Rica is Greece 0.1, they play worse and more boring than Greece with their mass-def. Argentina was even more exciting team! If only we managed to make those bloody goals. Damn poles, who put them there!

Also lol 2nd yellow card should've been pulled on the faul on Robben but Ref saved their asses.

Edit
Here we go... death penalties. How I hate penalties.

Also, don't forget that Costa Rica went 2-0-1 against three alleged powerhouses. Admittedly, the Netherlands is a step up from even Italy, but I'm starting to get really tired of people selling Costa Rica short.

Messi is the guy who will die on his feet with the ball under it. He finally fell when the Belgium player stepped on his foot that actually tripped him up.

Messi goes for the advantage play over the freekick.

Ah well. At least the Netherlands and Germany are two of the very few European teams I wouldn't mind seeing win the whole tourney.

Sigh. And here I was hoping I would live to see a CONCACAF team qualify for the top four. Nope, can't have nice things. Maybe in my next incarnation.

So, four teams left and all of them were rather boring in their quarterfinal matches. Go Germany! You're traditionally good at the solid-but-boring game, show those impostors how it's done!

We had a secret weapon it seems. His name is Krul, the Penalty Specialist as the Dutchies call it now.

Costa Rica offered Holland 120 minutes of slow play, sleeping on the floor, sudden leg aches and random fauls. Their intention after first half was extremely obvious: Stick with 0-0 what ever happens. I don't know why we couldn't break this weird play. Maybe because Costa defended with 4 + 4 by default. Every time Robben launched an attack, at least 3 opponents were around him.

Two pole hits by Sneijder which is just frustrating. Two major opportunities in front of goal during chaos. None went in. None! Damn it.

PS, Kilga: I've seen Robben also perform 1 dive this game which was faking. All the others were nasty fauls to simply stop him.

I said it at the start and I will say it now. Deutschland vs Holland facing eachother in the finals.
Both teams have to do some work but it can happen.

If Holland can't finish against Argentina as they were against Costa Rica, then Argentina won't have any problem against them as soon as they score a goal (albeit presuming Higuain plays just as good as he did today).

Netherlands seems to have a problem just playing against a defensive team, which is a big counter to their counter-attack style that they've been sticking with this whole tournament.

I'm just gonna pop back in here from my usual cynicysm and political discontent to say that fuck everyone ever who's said the referees are biased towards Brazil, that they were bribed or intimidated, whatever the fuck. The referees are a mess, yes, for everyone.

And nobody deserves to get their fucking spines fractured over a game, any game. If everyone flipped shit over Su?rez and his stupid biting habit, well, this is way the hell out there in the worse scale. Neymar is one athlete I respect for his integrity more so than his skills, and he has been repeatedly targeted throughout the cup, which is bloody understandable, he is was the ace of the team, strategic fouls are a thing, blablabalbla.

But you don't jump and knee someone in the back. You just don't. That's felony levels of bullshit. It's no longer a bad foul, it's straight up assault. And I sure hope it gets seen for what it is.

I'm just happy this stupid shit was just a partial fracture, and a proper, well-composed, skilled and decent athlete isn't paraplegic because some cunt wasn't professional and got carried away.

I cannot find any news anymore either about the knee assault. Did Brazil sue him for doing that shit to Neymar at FIFA? Like Hakurei said, if they ban players post game for biting then they should also for intentional physical harm. I know that is possible in football rules to punish such acts post-games.

I think the problem is the "intentional" part. While that tackle was very rude and dangerous and certainly deserve a punishment, they probably don't think he wanted to hurt Neymar. The same cannot be said with Suarez, you can't say "i tripped and my teeth happened to leave an imprint on his shoulder"....

Calling it now, they will probably give him some punishment but not too harsh.
Luckily it seems Neymar should make a perfect recovery with a bit of time.

Now i have an honest question for you all: i've noticed a lot of flak against those teams which plays only defensively, hoping for a lucky counter-attack or reaching the penalties. Why is that? I know that kind of play is boring as hell (i dislike it myself) but it still is a legitimate tactic used against a stronger opponent.
In many sports when you face someone stronger you need to whittle him down or tire him out while avoiding heavy blows and no one complain about it. Why in football is different?
