I can't believe it. Just how many times was Neuer forced to clean up after his defenders? They move like snails.

Wow, Algeria still tried very hard until the very end. They have my respect.

I greatly enjoyed Algeria's last goal. Shame about the overall loss, I was cheering for them.

That was a nice comeback attempt by Algeria, not to mention their denial of German goals during regular time. Well played!

If it wasn't for Germany's second goal, we'd have a tie and enjoy another penalties section. Shame...

I saw how Algeria's coach celebrated their goal only veeeery slightly, knowing it'd not make a difference as they were already done for anyway. I feel sorry he could not enjoy full happiness.

Algeria was depleted. They couldn't run any more. They fought well and it ends for them here unfortunately. They have my respect because the game was one of the best WC matches so far.

Algeria also said before the match that they are happy to make it so far, so they had nothing to lose.

... did Muller just, like... trip over nothing during that penalty kick?

Given how everyone acted afterward, I'm pretty sure that was a feint.

Tonight's matches: Switserland vs Messi. Must be some sort of joke. Then at 22:00 local NL time.

U S von A vs BELGIUM

I wouldn't mind Messi losing. Just so that Maradonna can stop being cocky and all-knowing. He claimed Mexico lost because they did poor changing.  lolladonna

I want Switzerland and USA to win, if only because Belgium and Argentina are, as far as I'm concerned, the two most annoying teams of the tournament so far. Greece? I can understand them. They have had excellent results with defensive playing style in the past. They are underdogs. They do what they can do best and what fits best for their players. In case of Argentina and Belgium, though, expectations are the key. I expected a lot of both those teams (I even hoped for Argentina getting into the semifinals before the tournament) but all I got in return was a borefest. Well, to hell with them, I don't want to watch their sleepwalking anymore.

I really don't like Maradonna after what he tried to do with Argentina in the last World Cup. I was still baffled that they made it that far until they got loldestroyed by Germany

Hey, fun fact. Messi is 169 centimeters tall. Lavezzi - 176 centimeters. Switzerland's defenders: Djourou - 191 centimeters, Schar - 186 centimeters. So what do they do? 40 crosses inside the penalty box. Darn, and I used to enjoy Argentina's games so much in the past...

Damn it Switzerland. If only they resisted a little more...

Even the Swiss goal keeper abandoned his post from desperation near the end.

It happens quite a bit for games like this. Expect to see some more if it's this close :V

0-0 halftime. Forget smoking; watching US soccer is bad for one's health.

I honestly am trying to be different and stay optimistic this time, but damn these guys are not making it easy. Howard's been huge for us this first half and our counter has been better than vs Germany, but we are losing the possession battle yet again (we were 2nd worst in the group stage) and the longer the game stays tied, the more it plays into Belgium's hands (they won all 3 group games despite only leading 24' total).

Still, I'll keep believing as best I can.

Yup. The goal keeper from Italy also did that on their match against Uruguay iirc.

Both teams: zero goals

Looks like Belgium is going to score eventually. Why does the world want me dead?

Oh well, at least Belgium is actually doing something and the match isn't as boring as their group matches. Why was Mertens substituted, though? He's easily the most ambitious and hardworking Belgian player on this tournament.
