That game tomorrow ought to be a good one. One group I'm with is already quite divided between Mexican and Dutch camps over that game. :V

Uruguay minus Count Su?rez...going to guess Colombia on this one.

I was really cheering for Japan to at least make as far as the round of 16, but they were defeated by Columbia. So I guess I'll side with Uruguay.

But we have some grudge against Uruguay because they defeated Brazil on some past cup I can't remember. So I dunno.

I think I'm kinda indifferent over this match, but I'll watch anyway.

Unsurprisingly, Columbia obliterated Uruguay.  If Columbia and Brazil each play on the 4th like they did today, Columbia is going to wipe the floor with them.

Welp... this is the end of Uruguay.

We'll probably have a tough time against Columbia.

This happens. I typed the last posts too quickly to remember the correct spelling. It's like how some people spell Cameroom instead of Cameroon.

People that are bothered by little mistakes like that should really try to take it easy. The sentences above still contain cohesion and coherence, one misplaced letter won't make them incoherent.

Nah, I know what he's talking about.  Even when you know it's a common typo, you can't help but go "argh it's a typo but I'm very conscious of it... must... not... comment..." and then you comment anyway.  Happens to me a bit too often for my liking.

Anyway, tomorrow should be good, but what I'm really looking forward to is Netherlands vs. Mexico.

Me too. I'm more interested on Mexico x Netherlands than Greece x Costa Rica. I'm kind of surprised Greece made this far, btw.

Also, I forgot to mention, but today was a sort of "holiday" here. Guess why? Because of Brazil's football match :V

lol, the whole country stops just to watch a football game.

That's wrong. A few cities opted to make game days facultative, Rio amongst them, but those were very few, and even then a lot of business is opening anyway. Not a holiday here where I am, and my brother who still lives in Rio sure as hell didn't get any time off

Ah yes, the Maracanazo. It was such an upset for Brazil that not only was the entire stadium completely silent (except for the Uruguay players celebrating), quite a few fans commited suicide from it, and a lot of the players in the main squad silently retired.

Truly an upset to remember.

If only the shot of Chile didn't hit the goddamn pole at 119th minute then penalties wouldn't occur and Brazil was bye bye. Oh well.

Colombia you say huh? The answer is:

And tonight, ohohoho.

You mean the not-a-handball disallowed goal by Brazil.

Mind you, that was a clear arm-controlled foul by lolHulk. He points at this chest but the replays show clearly control with the upper arm. This aint basketball you know.

Not really, it was really close to the shoulder, it's just as close to a legal move as it is to an illegal one. Not all refs would have blown the whistle.

It's in Portuguese, but:

A 69 years old Brazilian had an infarction while watching the Brazil x Chile match at a bar near Mineir?o, then died 2 hours later at an hospital. Apparently he suffered from hypertension and diabetes.

Not only that, but 98 other people had to undergo medical care during the match, and 60 of them were on the stadium.

Doesn't matter. Once it hits the arm (and the arm was pretty out there for a deliberate handle), it's a hand ball regardless of how "close" it is to the shoulder.

The yellow card was pretty harsh imo though. But yeah.

I'm not a ref, but the narrators said it was a controversial call and I kind of agree. I remember seeing plenty of players stop the ball similarly. So I'm pretty sure it's a gray area in practice.

I wish NL and MX didn't have to play each other this early, since they've both been one of my favorite teams to watch this world cup.  That said, it should be a good game.

Edit: Mexico spent basically the entire first half attacking. :V

Dutch mid field was a drama. Robben and Persie were too much covered. Schnijder was non existant. Somehow Kuyt was also poorly present while in previous game he was game maker. Mexico though tired towards end of 1st half but NL didn't (ab)use that to start attacking.

We have to thank our Goalie and BMI for the covering because it could've easily been 0-3. I am slightly worried about 2nd half.

I think it's amazing how you can hear people screaming for a goal from inside your room with your window slightly open, in a rather small town. It makes me slightly emotional.

I love it.

The penalty was questionable. Robben kind of did it again to make it look like one for the Ref I guess.

Also Schnijder has been forgiven again for now.

Now it is your turn US von A. Better not fail me.

Whoa, good, depressing stuff. I was expecting this to be close because NL weren't as good as they seemed to be vs Spain (in retrospective, it was mostly Spain being bad!), but Mexico downright dominated and things started to shift back around an hour in because of dumb strategy changes.
