Aww man, Russia versus Korea is right now? That's a shame, I'll have to miss it. I was looking forward to seeing Russia.

I'm looking forward to see Korea. I'll be dead tonight, but at least I have holidays for the rest of the week :)

Obligatory "대~한민국! *팡팡~팡팡~팡*" cheer goes here. :toot:

Getting calls and messages from friends in KR about this en masse. Not big surprise. :V

0-0 Brazil vs Mexico, there is a possibility that Brazil might get kicked out, though I am guessing they will be becoming 2nd in the group phase.

Also, I am here at work. Time is ticking 8:51 (that is AM for you lousy am/pm counters). Outside it is quite peaceful. It seems either half of this flat country took a day off or are on time at work to be on time home. I wonder if there will be any traffic jams? Not that I need to worry about any.

I'm listening to Wilhelmus though and should at least be able to watch the game.

I've been thinking about it since the end of the match  :D
Brazil is the team i absolutely don't want to see win the cup..... i would choose even France or Spain over it.

Reasons?
- Winning the pool for organizing the World Cup when they have enormous economical problems was a political move and nothing else (heck, even their own people complained about it!)
- I can't stand their "we are the epitome of soccer" attitude (although i admit not everyone is like this)
- I can't stand olympic divers looking for a penalty (yeah, i know that we italians are quite infamous for it but i hate even our own players when they do that.... if it was for me i would make a rule to give a direct RED CARD for that >.<)

@ Edible, that is ok. Keep them clean and fluffy.

The Aussies are Aussies and the Dutch are high, so no surprise there.

I don't remember Australia being so good as to go toe-to-toe with the Netherlands, though. What's going on?

I see how the Netherlands play

They play entirely on the counter attack. Almost all their goals were from that. If any team play way more defensively Netherlands would have a problem with it. It's what Australia was doing a bit of which was why they were struggling at first. Fortunately Australia has been missing some of the easiest chances ever and Netherlands has been taking advantage of it :V

Yeah, I've heard people saying they were one of the weakest teams in the tourney. That missed chance right before Holland's third goal was pretty hilarious, I have to say.

Australia isn't the weakest team. They just don't have skilled / technical players. So many times Australia was in front of goal, but couldn't finish it due to clumsiness or other weird situations. If any other team would've replaced Australia during those positions, then we would've been in trouble for real.

@ Gpop, counter attack doesn't works that way. We didn't defend 24/7 then sudden countering. In fact, NL couldn't control the mid-field for the entire first half. The 1-2 in score caused even more frustration as AU began to massdef like crazy. Good thing Persie punished them for that and immediately AU began attacking again but were in more panic than before.

This was the weirdest game ever imo. The goal from Memphis was unexpected.

Excellent pressing and tactical superiority by Australia... for the first hour. I guess you can't keep that up forever, especially against the Netherlands. Australia's performance was a very pleasant surprise, though don't forget that they were the better team for most of the match against Chile, coming close to equalizing despite Chile's two early goals.

I've seen Australia on the previous two World Cups and remember them as very ambitious but ultimately not too successful, though they came really close to eliminating the later world champions in 2006.

Spain is done for. They are going home with nothing. Or a miracle is going to happen for a 3-2 or more, but I doubt it. Ancient team is ancient. Spain needs to refresh.
