Holy crap did we steal 2 points from Ghana. They totally outplayed the US but 1 defensive lapse, excellent goalkeeping by Howard, and 1 beautiful header did them in. I loved Brooks' celebration; to come on at halftime, defend your butt off, and score the winning goal for your country -and in doing so becoming the 1st sub to score a WC goal in US history- I would cry too.

For all the hype, Aron J?hannsson did absolutely nothing since replacing Altidore, which will probably stoke fires over why Donovan was left off.

Overall a huge win for the US going into the match against Portugal. The team can't afford to get cocky though. I didn't watch the Portugal game vs Germany but I'm pretty sure if the US keep turning the ball over like this Ronaldo will, like it or not, make them pay.

The USA - Ghana match wasn't all that interesting, but at least the goals were spectacular. I still don't know what the USA team is really capable of, though I do wonder about that hamstring problem (Altidore going out with an injury and some other players were obviously in pain). I thought they were especially focused on avoiding and mitigating this kind of health problems.

Brazil - Mexico should be the real deal today, let's hope for clean refereeing this time and we might have a really great match waiting or us. The other two seem to be more of an afterthought, though it should be interesting to see how good Belgium is this time around.

Australia vs Netherlands is going to be interesting. According to history we never managed to beat them to take 3 points. Only ties and even 1 loss. But I think it is time to change history, even though it depends on how well Australia paid attention to Spain vs Netherlands.

Ronaldo being as shit as the rest of his team is good and Pepe being DQed is better, but losing Altidore is killer and small hammy problems like Besler's tend to linger for a while. This might end up in a 0-0 tie, which wouldn't be the worst thing in the world but is hardly ideal.

Belgium is perhaps the worst team I've seen on this tournament so far. They're completely impotent offensively, and since Algeria isn't too eager to attack, this makes for a very lackluster game.

Quoting a Polish commentator: "When Agleria qualified for the World Cup, the following celebrations resulted in 12 dead and dozens wounded people, which shows their imagination and enthusiasm."

Edit: OK, the substitutions were enough to change things around somewhat, but I still expected a lot more of Belgium.

Meh first half, nice second half. Happy for Mexico, Brazil slightly redeemed themselves in the second half but not enough, 'specially in conjunction with the first game.

One of the most satisfying 0:0 games that I remember. Overall Mexico player very smoothly, with a lot of skill and flair, while Brazil often seemed a bit disorganized and shaky, but on the other hand it was Brazil who had more clear scoring chances (mostly failed because Ochoa). A great match overall, pure fun to watch.
