I think the era of fads was first the Naruto Fanbase fad, then the vocaloid fad, and then the era of TOHO FAD and then well... pony fad.And then whats next, furries? I saw that the Kantai Collection has taken over after touhou and it became popular today. When I searched Kantai Collection, all I saw was some girls in cute battle suits and swimsuits using WW2 references and battleships to fight aliens from outer space. Is Kantai Collection the next fad? I think its growing popular in Japan. It also has taken over comiket i think. Is touhou still popular? Can the touhou fanbase continue to still live on forever?  :ohdear:

Dude, relax. Touhou still has a large presence from what I've gathered. Despite the new "fads," I think Touhou can continue going strong for quite a while.

There are a lot of people creating PVs, games, remixes about Touhou. I think that it keeps pretty alive. And I am sure that even if Touhou "ends" today you'll have material made from fans to consume for more 30 years :P

I guess the site broke, but I'm not entirely sure about that.

Touhou won't die but I've seen a huge drop in popularity. Just look at the fan sites. This place still seems up and running but if you look at pooshlmer it's practically dead. If you look at THP it's practically dead as well - or at least in comparison to a while back. The fanbase isn't what it once was but it's still a significant influential force. Kantai collection seems to have dealt us a blow - especially in the popularity polls - but Touhou still stands. Touhou has lasted many years and is still strong. While Zun is still producing and fans are still creating, Touhou will still be popular. Face it, you can practically live of only touhou-based entertainment for multiple years - then multiple years to come. I don't think that a fanbase that's been going for this long and is still producing this much will fall out of popularity any time soon.

I'm still worried though despite the large amount of fanworks that has been produced in the touhou franchise. I don't want our fanbase to go extinct!  :( Are the touhou fans now still crazy about it as before?

Fact: there are still fans of Liberace. So no, Touhou's fandom will not die.

This is probably a strange question with a subjective answer.

So with Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire getting remade, I saw someone brought up those games' "overused trumpet" soundtracks, which is apparently one thing people complained about in those games.  I heard ZUN uses lots of trumpets, or at least similar-sounding instruments, for his soundtracks as well.

Does that mean those who didn't like the trumpets in R/S won't like Touhou's soundtrack as well?

Thanks in advance!

He uses slightly different instrument sets for each game. PCB was the worst offender for trumpets, although that's not to say that he doesn't use them anywhere else. He seems to be moving away from them though.

The trumpet ZUN has used throughout the series (Romantic Tp.) is pretty iconic ZUN, to the point where they're colloquially called ZUNpets. The main irk people have is when the trumpet goes above a certain octave since it becomes very shrilly, and people don't like it. He did it a lot in PCB and IN (which imo was worse for it). So in a sense ZUNpets are good since they're iconic and identifiable in his songs, but they're bad when they're overused and done poorly. It really has nothing to do with the RSE trumpets though, since those are just renowned for being flat-out terrible sounding.

What is the artist/album of the smooth (sorry, don't know genres) song that was on a few minutes ago?
The title of the song showed as "05 Glitter."
The lyrics repeated: "Dancing through the night."

Thank you in advance.

I can't say anything about handedness, but since Seija is the ultimate contrarian she would probably hold whatever political views are in opposition to those of most people around her.

Did ZUN work on Kantai Collection? One of the characters looks like she was drawn in ZUN's style and the music from the game reminds me a lot of ZUN's own works.

Here's another question that I was very curious to ask but I dunno if its okay...I dunno if its really okay to ask but Here goes nothing!

Just how many hentai doujins do this fandom have compared to other fandoms?! And whats the ratio of hentai doujins to non-hentai doujins? Will this make a bad image to the fanbase? (also how many yuri doujins compared to hetero?)  :derp: :V

Let's take a site that hosts doujin (that site will not be named). They have.. 12,249 galleries of Touhou doujin. Note this number includes repeat listings, translated versions, and the like. Of those, 6,183 are tagged with Non-H. Almost half. And on a site that is specifically for porn. What's important is not the specific percentage but the fact that there are significant numbers of both Non-H and H Touhou doujinshi, and the Non-H stuff invades the H corners more than the other way around.

Given that in most fandoms the amount of Non-H doujin is far smaller than the amount of H content (i.e. most commercialized works), it is impressive and a testament to the appeal of Touhou beyond just providing imagination fucktoys for mass consumption. That extends beyond doujin and to fan content in general.

I'm also very curious whats ZUN's reaction when he sees touhou pr0n. Since he doesn't like his characters sexualized. Maybe he'll be sad, disgusted or angry when he sees it. Or maybe he got so used to it and always be chill? The Non-H doujin of touhou really dominates the H-doujin section but the amount of H-doujin of touhou i see overweights the h-doujin of other fandoms. I just hope it will get less because i'm sick of seeing my favourite touhou characters being a cheap fanservice.  :barf:

I think ZUN's pretty okay with Touhou H stuff, as long as you don't shove it in his face or something like that.

This is really only because of the sheer quantity of doujinshi Touhou has overall, and probably also from selection bias.

Porn sells. I doubt we'll ever see 'less' of it.

Also, filing away all H doujin as cheap really sells genre short. Sure, some are badly characterized and might as well be generic Touhou palette swaps, and as a rule even if you do like porn there will be a lot of it you don't care for, but a number of them have interesting/amusing plotlines woven in and are very well executed.

That and well.. if you don't like how someone's Gensokyo looks, just look at a different one. I'm sure there are a number of them where even the older youkai blush when thinking of a boob, and a C cup bra was found at Kourindou that literally no one in that world could use.

16% of Touhou doujins were porn in 2009.  I have this bookmarked for just such an occasion.. So there you go, no need for baseless speculation. I can't imagine the ratio has changed much, even if Touhou is less popular overall.

I read that ZUN once told people to cut down on porn material.

Anyway...

Keine's history manipulation is in some way like memory manipulation and also make people see or not see things, but no physical changes are made to surroundings, right?

Thanks in advance!

At one point, ZUN said that eroge was "unfortunate, but cant be helped".  Pretty sure it's from the "Zun's E-mails" page in the wiki, but not completely sure.  The implication being he'd rather not his charactes be used for hentai but realizes there isn't anything he can (or should?) do about it so whatever.  Prior to Hopeless Masquerade, far as I can tell, he seemed to be actively making art design decisions to discourage it (like showing how characters VERY explicitly wear bloomers instead of panties, including Sakuya  in Grimoire of Marisa and Reisen in Inaba of the Moon and Earth, and giving Mei Ling pants which she IMHO clearly didn't have as far as Perfect Memento. Oriental Sacred Place in its original iteration was a lot more fanservicey in art style before changing to a new artist, which almost makes me wonder if ZUN clamped down on something behind the scenes)

....I'm still not sure how or why Hopeless Masquerade got away with what it did.

EDIT:  Argh, I'm 100% positive he said something to that effect but can't find it.  It doesn't help that I'm also 100% positive he used an odd wording for it but can't remember the wording, thus making it hell to search for on a search engine.
