Sounds like I might need to go over there and see for myself.

Please do.  You are more than welcome; but you have to remember this is the group that no lynched two days in a row :3  A lot of scumhunting meta is different.  I have had a lot of fun coming here to the new environment, I'm sure you guys will have fun over there too.

We stopped giving out clues for hits around game 20, I think, because after awhile you run out of unique ideas and people knew what to look for.

That sound an awful lot like a simplified mafia game I used to follow years ago called "Playing Detective" (Adapted Translation), in fact, it sounds exactly like it, players could not change their names, avatars or sigs for the duration of the game, every turn the killer would leave "clues" to his identity, based on the player's sig, name and avatar, the "Detective"(cop) would gain an extra hint, the "Angel"(doctor) could protect people from being killed at night, and these were the only power roles.

I rather enjoyed it myself, it was a lot less sadistic than mafia is, at least, but I can see where people would fail to see the appeal after being exposed to actual mafia.

Yeah I think you got it.  We started out pretty much with that exact thing, except the mod placed the kills clues instead of the killer.  Over time it evolved into very similar to what we have in this forum.

The current game doesn't really look like Mafia, though. More like Everyone Is Mafia Mafia with a twist that people can randomly kill themselves by accident via votes.
Kilga is this right; like is this person seriously the player, and it's not some alias or something that's designed to be deliberately obfuscating? NekoNekoRex. Who the hell is that :C   ~Poya Aaaa (Serela), Bunny Must Die Mafia

W-well, yes.  This is the second Battle Royale mafia.  Except Squid is running it, so I have no idea what will happen.

Here is the previous one, if you're interested.

A microbiology white blood cell find-the-infection type game
Ironically, we just finished this exact setup on my native forum. Can you say endgamed by a townie?
Well. There was a cancer cell, that had ability to infect and control other cells. Basically a cult with a killing cult leader. I was in it. And in the endgame there was cancer player, me (controlled), some other townie (controlled), and two clean cells. Turns out one of the clean cells had triple vote. TRIPLE VOTE. And he actually managed to pick cancer cell and then simply dominated day votals with his triple vote.
I called bullshit to the GM, but he said that town should have some sort of save ass to pull through, which is Bad Game Design, but oh, well. Still Cancer & Co got consolation prize in the form of Audience Award, since we actually did play really good. Even me. =)

We still do that. Usually at the start of the game people either write some sort of short of biography, or you pick something thematic. For example in my latest game i picked musical bands. And clues were pointing at some fact or something related to that band. There was a player who choose Eluveitie. And the clue was "Dumas 2002". It was associative chain in the form of Dumas -> Three Musketeers -> One for all, all for one -> Latin translation Unus pro omnibus, omnes pro uno -> country motto of Switzerland -> Zurich -> Eluveitie was founded in Zurich in 2002. It was the hardest clue. But people usually know that all my clues are some sort of associative chains.

O4rfish I don't think Hydraing is a good idea. Then I can't step in if someone actually needs to vanish.

Also I explicitly banned Hydras in my game, so you can probobly tell I'm not fond of them.

And I am also interested in a detail concerning the 'clues' system used by other mafia games.

How often does the players receiving the clues in question figure them out?

Having extensively read every old mafia game in the archive here, none of them used clues. >_>
If Darkninja wanted to try them I'm sure people would play just to see how bad it could get...

I was about to come up and say ''Well clues are so stupid lolllll''.

But then I thought about it for a moment and decided on a more rational response.

Personally i'm against the clues and view them more as "necessary evil in open setups" rather than "they are useful in open setups".

Yukkuri Mafia had clues
NO ACTUAL MAFIA GAMES HAD CLUES.
Open setups definitely don't need clues. <_< You already know all the roles, that makes it easier.

Open setups with no definitive flips sometimes do need them. But it's not the argument i want to participate in on this forum. Or on any forum for that matter.

Thats a cool mechanic but I don't think you need hints if the setup was balanced with no flips in mind and had a role that could find out what dead people were

That's pretty much what we do. It works for most part. Also claiming your role is prohibited for obvious reasons. Doesn't stop the role speculations, though. At all.
