There's actually a door within the Special Zone itself that can't be opened if you don't have the key?  I hadn't noticed, so I was unable to take it into account.  Would you by any chance be able to point out for me which doorway that is on the map?

Also, if I can manage to figure out which of my inventory items was that yet-unidentified green dot in Level 4, I'll post a screenshot of it so it can be translated.  Or someone else can snake it, I don't really care.  The point is that it gets translated.  :p

Edit: Here's the new map.  All we need is the identity of that one item in Level 4.

Look for the hallway at the top of the complete map you made - below the room with the Waki Miko Slayer. The hallway below said room has a iron door that doesn't open until you get the key from the level 5 boss. If you already have the key, it auto-opens every time you go through it.

EDIT: I believe this is the item, yes?

Could be, if it's not been translated already.  (I don't keep the best track of what I picked up where.)  I guess now we wait for someone like Arknarok or StarxSword to come in and tell us what that thing is.

Also, the finished map will also credit those who translated things in this thread.

So that's the Gap then.  I just tried confirming it in my inventory, and it doesn't have any direct usage (surprise surprise).  What does it actually do?  Anyone have a clue?

Just tried "using" the Gap in the extra level boss room and nothing. Starting to think it's a item that lets you into the final boss room of the main game.  :V

And that makes Kirisame Blade slightly less useless considering that we're talking how there are most boss bullets that can't be cut.

Here is the new map, now updated to 2.00.  As far as I am aware, there is nothing missing and all information given is accurate.

Concerning the "Dream Ring", it's wording (夢が広がリング) is weird.
We have two words followed by "ga" (が) which are subject markers
(well, "ga" is apparently a bit more complicated than just being a subject marker
but I don't know enough Japanese X D )
but there are no verbs.
Taking it a bit further, I decide to type the item name in Google and see what happens.

I find something there.
Basically, there is a expression originating from 2chan :
夢がひろがりんぐ
It means more or less "The state of the dream that was delusional about it's own future, dream that keep enlarging."
Something like that if I'm not mistaken.
In fact, the begining of the expression translate as "The dream is spreading."
But what about the "ringu" ending?

http://www.paradisearmy.com/doujin/pasok_ringo_otoko.htm
Well, apparently that it is immitating the "-ing" ending of verb in English.
Seriously. X D

In any case, the expression ended up becoming a ring in this game,
one that boost EXP.
On a unrelated note, doesn't the picture in the second link looks familiar to you?

You can wish for anything!

Actually I think that there is a verb, "Hirogaru" is a verb (Enlarge, expand), so "hirogari" is a verb-stem. The translation could be "Expanding dream ring"  :V

I don't know if this helps any, but I stumbled upon a definition (at least I think it is) of that phrase back then when I was trying to track it down: http://www.paradisearmy.com/doujin/pasok_ringo_otoko.htm

Unfortunately my Japanese isn't the best either so I can't make too much sense out of it. :X

First of all, thanks to Ace of Hearts and all the contributors in this thread for the map, item translations, and other various notes, making the game playable.

After giving up on defeating
Spoiler:
Sakuya
(for now, at least until a translation patch of the game emerges), I've decided to follow suit and mess around the game with Cheat Engine (as I usually do with other games after finishing them). I've got some findings that might pique your interests (here's my cheat table file if anyone wants it - http://www.mediafire.com/?zicdvf9tdzsetjl):

  • As with Exp and Money, CHR and Max CHR are both easily hackable from their static addresses. But on the other hand, STR, like HP, is dynamically allocated. It also uses two addresses: one affects the display bar in the menu (i.e. it's purely visual) and another for your actual STR rating. However, after a simple test of trying to one-shot
    Spoiler:
    Sakuya
, it seems you can't force your STR beyond the apparent 20 cap this way (see below for a better alternative).

  • There are two sets of static addresses assigned to items. The first set corresponds to whether a particular item exists in your inventory or how much you have of it if it's an item you can stock (e.g. potions). You can use this to obtain early dash/keys in a new game for some simple sequence breaking (however limited that is in this game).

  • The second set corresponds to whether an item is equipped or not, so you can use it to force-equip items that require more CHR points than you have or normally unequippable stuff like consumables and ability-granting/quest items (though it won't do anything, naturally).

  • The above offers a better alternative to cheating your HP for any reason - just lock your stock of potions, or better yet, Resurrection Elixir which works automatically and hassle-free. You could also give yourself as many HP Plus/Energy Tanks as needed to make yourself as tough as you want without resorting to immortality.

  • In the same vein, getting 10000+ STR/CHR Ups really does give you that much stats. At 60 STR Ups, I've already passed the aforementioned test (pic filename has spoilers):

  • By meticulously checking the entire address range for items every 4 bytes, I've found a number of items that are currently unaccounted for:

These two are obviously dummy items; the second one seems to use a CHR slot, but it isn't equippable. (Even if I force-equip it, I don't think it does anything.)

Here's an item that potentially none of us has found yet. It comes after the Dream Rings, is properly equippable as indicated by its CHR slots, and even has a seemingly non-random description. I've tested trying out some stuff to find out its effect but to no avail. I thought it's easier to just have its description translated, so here I am. Can any of the previous translators please give it a shot?

Lastly, this one follows after what I tested to be the two 'access keys' for the shortcuts to the Lv6/7 bosses. It seems to be more of the same based on their names' similarity. This too has a proper description.

  • The game keeps a mid-air dash counter (in a static address) to determine whether you can still dash, i.e. it checks for 'n < 5' if you have the 5-Dash item. Locking it to zero means you can dash indefinitely. With a turbo button for dash+attack (courtesy of AutoHotkey, for example), you can turn Youmu into a zooming rocket of death that you can steer with the directional controls, great for some unadulterated fun.

    http://i1057.photobucket.com/albums/t389/Solmourne/Boho%20Youyoumu/Boho2_Rocket_Youmu.gif

  • As a bonus to the above, while trying to see what the upper limit is in the wide above-ground area in Level 4, I discovered a small plain-looking hidden area about three screens above the top-level of map:

More interestingly, a short scripted scene between Youmu and Yuyuko is triggered once you enter the leftmost screen of the area. As with some games, I imagine these are dummied-out content that are just placed somewhere normally inaccessible within the game world so that it could operate under in-game mechanics, and maybe also to save space. Here's the dialogue, just in case.

    http://i1057.photobucket.com/albums/t389/Solmourne/Boho%20Youyoumu/Boho2_Hidden_Scene-1.jpg

Side note 2: Seriously though, how did anyone beat
Spoiler:
Sakuya
? I can get past her first phase relatively quickly and flawlessly, and I've gotten down a decent pattern for handling her last two phases, but even with the best damage output I can manage it takes way too long (I reckon under 10 mins for phase 2, and possibly 20 mins for phase 3) while it's all too easy to blunder once in a while (especially in phase 3, where much unwanted randomness is injected), which, given the ridiculous damage she can inflict (even with the Shield Ring equipped, which also limits me to a 19-STR setup), means I would have run out of healing items (including the elixir) way before she dies (usually sometime near the beginning of phase 3). Even if I get to phase 3 unscathed, I don't think I can brute-force my way through a battle of attrition even with all my items; she has too much HP. Am I missing something, or do I really have to practice for this to the point of mastery and hope for the best of luck?

Side note 2: Along with cheat-hacking for fun, I've also ripped the game soundtrack. Someone's probably interested, but I'm not sure if posting a link to an upload is allowed here. I'll edit my post once this matter's been cleared.

Solmourne0, those are very interesting findings to me.

* I'd theorized that the 5-Usage Dash had to use a counter, but didn't investigate into it as 5 dashes are generally more than enough for anything other than going back up the drop-room you start the game in.  This reason alone is enough for me to bother downloading your cheat table, as infinite dash would indeed allow much faster exploration.

* I'm interested in learning what that equip is that you've acquired.  Also, it's interesting to see that you can give yourself more copies of the equips (and alongside more CHR, will then be able to actually use them all).

* Also, what Yuyuko says on that screen needs translated if it's not dummy text, and I'll tell you why: I believe it may be an Easter egg speech (like some games are notorious for; "you shouldn't be able to get here, how'd you do it?").

* Your Side Note 1: I have yet to beat Sakuya in anything remotely resembling a fair fight without cheating.

* Your Side Note 2: I'm pretty sure that would violate MotK's don't-ask-don't-tell(-and-definitely-don't-post-links) policy.  I, too, would not recommend posting such a link without approval from someone who knows for sure.

Edit:  I've taken the time to determine how much XP Youmu needs to level up.

Stuff to Know
* These amounts are exact.
* First number is XP required to get to that level from previous; second in parenthesis is total acquisition from Lv. 1.
* If you're using Cheat Engine, the only value that matters if you want a single level's worth of XP is the XP needed to get to the next level, as the address's counter only counts XP earned since your last level up.
* The total XP from level 1 can be helpful if you wish to speed-level in a new game from Lv. 1 to any particular level immediately (as all extra XP carries over continuously as appropriate, and chains level-ups until you're the appropriate level for the total amount of additional XP you put in).
* Any extra XP you gain carries over toward the next level starting from a new counter of 0 current XP.
* Once you hit Lv. 20, any extra XP you had upon reaching it still "carries over" to a new counter, but never increases after that (therefore, whatever number might thereafter be in that address does not "count toward" anything, and was simply the remainder of your hitting Lv. 20).

Experience-to-Level Table
Lv. 1: 0 (0)
Lv. 2: 180 (180)
Lv. 3: 323 (503)
Lv. 4: 583 (1,086)

Given that we know what the other equippables do, and that nothing else we acquire affects it as yet, I say we test whether either of these items has something to do with affecting Karma (be it in a positive or negative way).

Therefore, we need to know the address for Karma (KP) if it is static, so that we can track the effects.

I did some guess work on how much a karma hit you get for killing a ghost and how many karma items it takes to empty the gauge. This is before equipping either item.

We need to understand that it took 20 kills to fill the gauge, while it took 7 of the karma items to empty it. So in other words, it clears up approx. 2.86 (Rounded up because it repeats the decimal numbers otherwise) kills off the karma gauge. I can't really track the effects otherwise, though, since I think it doesn't really use a 0/20 or 0/100 or 0/1000 or anything simple like that.

So I tried the unknown item, but surprise, it doesn't affect karma gain AT ALL. So that's a theory busted. But, I think it should remove the karma penalty for having high karma, though, so that's what it should do in theory.

EDIT: Equipped the unknown item in the final boss battle and it didn't change the ending at all, so I think it's safe to conclude that it was probably a completed item that the creator felt like dummying out of release.

It came to my attention that I had the position of the Coin in Level 2's Special Zone wrong; I'd put it in the wrong dead end.  This is now fixed, and it is in the proper place.

Also, I added a little Youmu to the version info box.  Because seeing as her in-game sprite is so adorable, why not?

Thus, new map version, 2.02.
