Title: I live in Gensokyo
Post by: Pesco on June 23, 2009, 09:16:12 AM
What makes your city/hometown like Gensokyo?

Because there are no buses (http://www.iol.co.za/index.php?set_id=1&click_id=13&art_id=vn20090621055738447C287914)

Accurate depiction of Los Angeles. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDpU2cR_hUA)

Also, terrible cellphone coverage and no high-speed internet in my neighborhood.

I believe someone briefly stole our spring, because it was still snowing for an extra month this year.

Funny, I was just going to say that in my city we didn't get a spring one year. It went from freezing cold right through the spring months and then got warm again in late June.

Most of the population is made up of old people (The same can be said for Gensokyo since most of the Touhous fall under the 'Really Seven Hundred Years Old' thing).

This is what I got this year. It snowed until maybe a month and a half ago, then it was still cold right up until mid-May. Pretty much no spring.

Ditto! Two years in a row I've thought "Hmm ... Youmu must've stolen the spring ..."

Though to family members I merely said that the Grinch stole it.

Why? Are you ashamed of your Touhou fanocity?

No, it would just take too long to explain, and they find my general geekiness a bit tiresome.

Well, my neighborhood and the area around it are surrounded by trees so I guess I could say that I live in the Forest of Magic. It's almost as dangerous too (I have to deal with hyper dogs, raccoons, spiders, wasps, horse flies, mosquitoes and poison ivy everywhere, etc.). Aside from that nothing else in my city comes close.

I know the feeling. Only not so much with my family, who grew up with it, but friends and co-workers. If the subject of anime or games comes up, and I start talking, their eyes kind of glaze over and they get this far-away look. So I generally avoid those topics around them.

Well, I know pretty much everyone on my family except my 9-year old sister hates anime, so I haven't even tried to do so.

And to keep on topic, I live on the central region of the largest city on the country. The only thing that could be similar to Gensokyo is the random deaths over the night, but they're not associated to youkai activities.

Well, since this is a bit deviated from topic already...
My present on Valentine's day to my girlfrined included a card with some nice words of love and pictures of her favorite pairing - MarixAri - and let me say, she wasn't the only person seeing that card or hearing about it.

Now, how do you explain to anyone in this world the fact that you are giving two girls kissing to your girlfriend to anyone else in the world? Specially the most obnoxious homophobes that I know of?

Bah, I'm still going to transform said Homophobe's girl child into a nerd, then show her "real" games and anime in a few years. There's no way he'll survive his daughter going everyday to some gallery to pick up more pictures for her already huge ass galler of pictures of her favorite YAOI pairing.
And funny thing, said favorite pairing will probably include one kid!

but they're not associated to youkai activities.

Is that what they told you? *dark smile*

Someone stole our winter and dropped it in the middle of summer. That's not as nice as it sounds.

Red Mansion - Not Check

Oh, I forgot. I do have those in the area.

We get danmaku showers all the time, in the form of hail.

Additionally, Reimu lives right next door.

my parents are okay with how geeky I am.

Mainly because my family consists of geeks with a few normal people and an old guy that hunts deer and makes deer burgers.

you guys are so lucky aside from the peacefulness (and this girl I know who sometimes wears fake cat ears) the place i live isn't like gensokyo at all

霧島雫 - Mysterious Alice in Suomi -mysterious minstrel-
(Suomi = Finland, I live in Finland, DERP)
Its a remix of MS Extra Stage theme (Alice in Wonderland)
Circle is 蒼天の雪
Album is 東方幻想組曲 ~Touhouseries compilation album~ Disc 02

Well, as seen in some of the endings in IaMP, it gets scorching hot in the summers of Gensokyo.

I live in freaking Georgia where it's still in the 80's at 7:00, I freaking hate how hot the weather is around here.

Also, there's a lot of forests and annoying bugs around here.

I suppose having annoying bugs is better than having to risk getting danmaku'd by fairies, but I can see the analogy there ...

If only I lived in Australia, then I could say something like "about as dangerous."

There's a forest, though it isn't dangerous at all.

Or, at least, someone who was dressed *exactly* like her.
Pretty cool.

I live on the edge of the forest, it is kinda in the forest but not deep. Their are also a few other houses around but not that many people.

The closest thing I would say is that I hear random screams in the middle of the night. Which if you were in Gensokyo I guess you could attribute it to people getting killed by youkai.

The only thing that bothers me is, who the hell would be screaming at 1:00 - 3:00 AM in the morning?

Ah, yes, the Jersey youkai - known to wear wipe-on tans, spiked hair, hoodies, and lots of gold-plated jewelry with faux diamond stud earrings. Usually travelling in groups of five or six in their tinted Nissan Sentras, the Jersey youkai can be heard emitting the familiar mating call, "Sup, hottie. How you doin?". Their habitats are the parking lots of 7-11s or third-rate nightclubs, where they'll buy a ginger ale on ice because it looks like something alcoholic and then sip it all night while staring at girls but not actually talking to them. While they might gesture threateningly, they will not attack unless they outnumber their prey by at least 10 to 1. They can be driven away easily enough by punching one of them in the face, which will send the rest of them running.
