Title: MotK Listening Room

The concept is simple: you click the link and upload music for everyone in the room to listen to. No registration, no fees. You can set a nick for yourself and chat with each other, too. Music queues up in the order received.

Keep in mind that the site is still pretty much in beta, so it can get a little laggy/buggy at times. Still, it's a lot of fun.

Post by: Seian Verian on January 22, 2011, 06:49:50 PM: It was working fine for me until the SSH song came up and then it froze when it was done. I tried refreshing the page, multiple times even, even just going straight to the URL again. The room is showing as empty now.

It screwing up like this for anyone else?

Now that we got a bunch of people in here, songs have time to fully load before they start playing. It's been working fine for me for the most part.

Edit: On a laptop running Vista, Firefox 4 Beta does not work. The site works fine on Google Chrome, but the beginning of songs are usually left out... Some uploads also stop before they finish.

Keep in mind that a link to the site was posted on the front page of Metafilter today, so it's also probably getting huge traffic right now. That it's running as well as it is despite the traffic is pretty remarkable.

It is. I wonder what the server does with all the uploaded music... It'd certainly be an easy way to pick up stuff =/
The server load must be insane, especially if DJ's get on the site...

I'm the only one in the room right now =T

Maybe that's also why streaming in the room is more reliable now.

Weird, me and Minch have been there for a while. Maybe try what Ammy said earlier about opening a new tab instead of just hitting refresh?

Unfortunately a four year old laptop just doesn't cut it for this kinda thing.

Post by: shadowbringer on January 23, 2011, 05:19:15 AM: it took me many attempts to successfully upload files to it, for each music (using Firefox 3.6 something, btw), and it kept halting (requiring me to F5), also it doesn't support Youtube links, which make my life so much easier than trying to download mp3/ogg and then upload them :(

But I have some hopes that the dev/team will solve these issues..

I was wondering why Bokurano had an amazingly misleading album cover. :V

Also, if you're not using Chrome already, do it. As for missing uploads, refresh the page once just to make sure it didn't catch it, then you'll just have to re-upload. Sorry.

If I need to swap over to Google Chrome just to upload specific songs, then I'd just rather not upload stuff. The downside is most of the stuff I would want would be Touhou-related things, and those are the only things it hasn't taken.

Man, it might work now, but Chrome is hell on toast.

The way I have it, I just have a Chrome window open for that site, and I do everything else at the same time in Firefox. Not much of a problem.

Just click on the empty record at the bottom of the queue to add your music. The gray shows duration, the black is pretty much nothing. If you have album art, it'll show. If your track is completely black, it won't play.

if your track is not completely uploaded, the site will play until your song is interrupted and move on to the next one.

Anyone can upload, anyone can remove.

And yes, Lloyd, I loved your music~

Anyway I hope that the site someday gets to accept Youtube video links too.. saves me the trouble of downloading music and then upload it. Also, if an upload is interrupted, you have to restart it over. Plus the last time I checked the room (some 3 or 2 days ago) the site didn't take some mp3, maybe because of asiatic characters in the file information as some have said.

Once more, thank you Ammy for this ~~GREAT~~ great find! And thank you everyone who's been sharing music! (just gave the site a break because of some netplayable games such as Ougon and DotS, but may be back on the weekends)

Also, there seems to be a problem with using Youtube links for uploading, it skips itself and the 10 or so songs following. So don't do that :V

Then it stopped in the middle of a song, skipped to the middle of another song far down the playlist, went backwards through the playlist, and cut off half the time from the songs that it played. So yeah...

Otherwise, the functionality looks good. I haven't had any problems with uploading songs directly from my library yet, non-English doesn't seem to be a problem. and it's nice that you can upload multiple songs in one go. The volume control is also a nice touch, and I like the progress bar.
