SNAAFU ADVENTURE

It's that time of the year again! I don't know about you, but I enjoy my LSD induced trips! I know lots of people do! One day Mister Sana was all "GOOD GRAVY!" and wondered what was up with the whole LSD craze thing! So he tried some o' dat crap and SHOOP DA WOOP he was knocked into video game land and he imagined himself as some sort of wacky Tales rip-off character! Suddenly he sees people he knows but doesn't quite know! And since they were bored they decided to travel to the center of the world. Little did they know they were in Ijiyatsu World, where they might see clones of themselves. Maybe.

Characters

MISTER SANA
Class; Magic Swordsman
He is here on an LSD-induced trip to journey to the center of Ijiyatsu World. When he first arrived, he found himself with three other people that forced themselves into an entourage with absolutely zero exposition whatsoever, like it was taking some cues from Final Fantasy I. Maybe their reasons for being with Sana are special. But this guy has some exceptionally balanced statistics and can use both magic and physical attacks decently well.

PURVIS "PURVIEWALD"
Class; Blood Priestess
Purvis used to be a doctor, but someone cursed him and turned him into an elven priestess, something he really really hates. He didn't want to tell Sana this and probably is keeping it a secret so others don't laugh at him. He is your primary healer for most of the game until the really late levels once he gets his 2nd SS.

ALSTROEMERIA "AF"
Class; Dark Witch
Artist by day, sexy monster-girl-witch-thingy by night. Or rather all the time, in this case. Apparently, AF's story is that she wants to find some crayons, which apparently don't exist in Ijiyatsu World for whatever reason, and travelling to the center of the world may find some leads. AF deals mostly in offensive magic of the evil nature, performing debuffs and nukes all day. She can do it even better once she gets her SS.

HIME
Class; Kensei
Hime is looking for her stolen swords. She's also probably the only person who won't fight a clone of herself. Maybe she'll fight her original self. Who knows? Hime is pretty powerful offensively, but can't take any physical hits for crap. The armor she can wear isn't exactly the best, either. However, she can deal with magic just fine.

ROUKANKEN "ROUKAN"
Class; Keeper's Templar
Roukan is first seen at Spiemcie's pub, deep in thought. After you finish the initial events at Spiemcie and teleport to the next area, Roukan blocks your passage to town and asks you to help her out. Roukan cannot learn skills the same way everyone else does by levels, instead you must take the effort to learn it from the different Keepers of the world. Each Keeper grants 2 skills, Roukan already starts with the skills from Keeper Matsuri and
Keeper Ruro

SAPZ
Class; Bee Hunter
Sapz is on a quest to completely obliterate Hibachi, but every time she almost makes it Hibachi eludes her grasp! If Sana decides to join in on the Hibachi hunting action, Sapz is sure to be around.

DRAKE
Class; Lady Luck
Drake is afflicted by a lethargic curse coming from a distant location, but if you can destroy the source...

Requires Sapz to be recruited

HELEPOLIS
Class; Lord Duke
Duke Helepolis is the ruler of the island region of Calentz, though he shares some of the power with the Keeper of the region, Kilgamayan. While Sana's group were still in Pensiole, the Dark Lady's henchmen attacked Duke Helepolis' mansion and managed to induce Charisma Break in Helepolis, making him lose a great deal of energy. Under Ruro's suggestion, Sana is tasked to enlist Duke Helepolis' help in fighting back the Dark Lady. Fortunately for Helepolis, his mansion is actually pretty safe... Helepolis already starts with all his skills learned, but he lacks the maximum MP (Charisma) to utilize them effectively. This can be raised by visiting Tea Houses scattered throughout the entirety of the game. Keep an eye out.
HOW TO RECRUIT: Automatic

ARASHI KUROBARA
Class; Steel Maiden
Arashi Kurobara, the Steel Maiden, assisted in the sealing of the Dark Lady with her massive knowledge of SCIENCE! Afterwards, she split her power source, the Soul of Artificer, into two halves, because the demons got pissed off and wanted it. However, they got lost somewhere far away and now Arashi is staying in a distant part of Calentz, waiting for someone to help her collect the two halves of the Soul. Arashi employs many mechanical constructs to do the fighting, but she must collect them in distant locations to advance her knowledge.

BAITY "BAITUMS"
Class; Eleganz
The armored ship-cyborg Baity was hired by Duke Helepolis to keep an eye out on the mansion while he was gone. Baity seems to really miss a certain person. Gee, I wonder who it is...

Like I said on IRC the Dolls High HP and Defense buffing can be pretty annoying although the dolls aren't to damaging they just last awhile.

I suppose I'll wonder on what'll come of Trance saying "maybe you'll be playable but I'm not sure" or whatever it was, while I die to Hibachi since I didn't level up or buy anything or heed the game's advice :V

Played through all that's completed so far, funtimes. Debuffing Hibachi with AF made the fight a breeze, even AF's wimpy HP was enough to handle it easily once I landed that STR debuff!

lol sapz is so much higher level then the rest of my party >: Well it hardly matters since the save will be incompatible with the next version.

Agreed. ...Though after the Tower of Ruse, Sana always seems to die of dysentery just before defeating a boss, so he doesn't get any EXP. Maybe I'm just underleveled.

I guess that's what the Lucky Egg is for, though!

If your party's hp/mp numbers aren't completely screwed, you could try running around hoping for level ups for the more mp-intensive characters like Hime and Rou (I personally ran circles in the boss room for Rou to get a level up to max her out before fighting the boss).  I found that Sana, Purvis, Alstro, and Sapz aren't as mp-dependent due to their cheap skill costs, so it's not as important for them to be maxed out on mp.

Of course, if everyone's running on empty, it might be hard fighting the battles to get those level ups.

Also, backup saving should be second-nature, especially when you encounter a teleporter that specifically warns that you can't return until your business in the dungeon is done.

Snaafu is my pet name for Sana

In honor of Sapz and his Hibachi-exterminating-abilities, I have asked him which theme is the best

You might want to check them both, as they both haven't lost much at all; I can't pick up a difference, but you might be able to.  These files won't seem like they loop in a music player, but try importing them into VX and then playing them and listen to it looping (The change should be inaudible)

For those who want to use one of these in the current demo: rename the downloaded file as "Battle5.ogg", and then create a folder named "Audio" in the game's folder, and a subfolder in that called "BGM", and stick the file in there.  You'll have to have RPG Maker VX though, to go in and set the pitch back to 100%, or it'll sound a little sped up when it plays in game due to current settings - and since if you've got RMVX you probably know what to look for in the first place for importing the file normally too so... yeah.

To increase Helepolis max MP, you must go to tea houses and talk to the owners there with Helepolis in the party. He will have some nice tea, and regain some [Charisma], that is, MP.

I... Honestly.

The thing is. Random encounters in RMVX, as you might know, are freaking screwed up. I'd have to actually get into the nitty-gritty of ~*~scripting~*~ to fix how random encounters work. Average Steps is horribly skewed. D: I did not, in fact, touch the encounter rates at all!

Is it just me or is Incubating Hibachi less rage-inducing than it was before?  I was able to make him my third fight (First being the mandatory demons, second being Rizack) and take him down without a death.

Oh, right, about the encounters.  Give me a few and I'll hook you up with a script that fixes it.

EDIT: Here.  I would've gotten you the more uptodate one from Pocketwiki but I think Yanfly ragequit that again.  Anyway, this has some options at the start which you'll need to configure (The script details what does what), so it should be easy to set up.  Long story short it'll help you control the amount of time between encounters.

EDIT 2: Abomination cast Calamitous Flame!
Sana took 3000 damage!  Sana is knocked out!
Alstroemeria took 2800 damage!  Alstroemeria is knocked out!
Sapz took 3200 damage!  Sapz is knocked the fuck out!
Baity took 3000 damage!  Baity's shit is wrecked!
Garlyle used RAGEQUIT

EDIT 3: I also need to hook you up with some of the basic bugfix scripts.  This is the first time I've actually seen VX's reappearing dead enemies with my own eyes

Speaking of me being awesome, you might want to check out This (http://wiki.pockethouse.com/index.php?title=Core_Fixes_and_Upgrades) (Turns out PocketWiki is doing just fine).  It's a bunch of fixes for programming fuckups in the base script (Such as the fact that if a state wears off when an enemy is dead, the enemy will reappear, even though it's no longer a battle participant and doesn't matter - This game was the first time I've actually seen this in action), plus some optional little things that may or may not matter to you.

Just tried the third demo for the first time tonight, and I really enjoy this game. There were some moments I shout-laughed
Ruro eating strawberries and getting over a thousand HP!
, and overall I enjoyed the exploration. Combat was also a lot of fun; I love turned-based melees (always went for VATS in Fallout3) and developing combat arrangements for different types of opponents was enjoyable. The Tower's puzzle game feel was a really nice touch, too.

And I am never, ever going in that room again.

Hey, everyone, thanks for the reception.

It's been a lot of fun getting intermittent releases, but now I'm going to get into the nitty-gritty of it and try and complete a majority of the game, so the next release will be very far from here. I'm still debating whether I do another partial release or go for the full release, but we'll see. Patiently await for it, and rejoice if I can get the entire thing done by the end of the year.

Again, I'm glad for the positive reception and I hope you all enjoy playing it as much as I did making it.

Found a rather deadly glitch. When you get the boat, if you use it to enter the tower through that tiny piece of land, the boat stays on that piece of land while you exit from the right and you can't get back on no matter what.

Just started playing a couple hours ago. Quite enjoyable so far, but damned if I almost kinda freaked near the end of the first fight against Valentia when half my team was KO'd. but the worrying was for naught in the end due to her being defeated a turn after that, so. Regardless, I'm past Tark Fortress and am just grinding Sapz. Rou, and Purvis' levels up. Mainly Sapz as I haven't really used 'er yet, so. Yeah. :V

That aside, can't wait to see what'll happen next, and uh. Keep up the great work!

All right. My thoughts as this newest demo progressed:

Currently: LOOK AT THAT FISH
--oh hey new overworld battle music
--...that Demon Soldier just dropped iron. ...CRAFTING YAAAAAY
--Hibachi wasn't quite as tough this time around; took him down in two turns. Maybe Hime's ATK boost played a role?
--...okay, yeah, Hime's ATK boost is broken early-game. Spent a turn buffing and then took down Ruro in two shots of Tenba Haouken. yeah Purvis died during the fight but still
--Am I supposed to be able to go to Arkadia yet? Also, I don't have Rou with me yet and she's speaking to the Keeper there.
--Welp, Valentia's still as tough as ever.
--Sana's old portrait still shows up at the cabin east of the fortress if you haven't beaten Valentia yet.
--Related to the Arkadia bug; I decided to look around Arkadia and went into some tower where there were giant snakes, and Fighting of the Spirit started being the battle theme for other places until I beat Valentia. (I feel bad that I had to buy stuff from the store there and forge Sana a new weapon ;_;)
--Took down Kilga in three (four?) turns with Sana/Hime/Rou/Arashi; didn't heal at all. Yes, I was still using the Arkadia armor, but the weapons I had at that point were all normally obtainable. ...Still, if Kilga had used Mad Zapper again, I'd have been down two or three people.
--Nobu y u do Searing Halo and kill everyone ;_;
--Arashi's DITHYRAMB doesn't have an animation?
--Bladereon + Lesser Tamarand encounter looks visually...off somehow.
--"You make me want to toss you into the sun, you runt." *my party gets wrecked, and then presumably hurled into the sun*
--Does SPI affect more than just magical damage/defense? With an ATK buff but a SPI debuff, Sana was doing 1 or less damage per hit to Erebus.

Whew. Just finished playing through the demo. And I've got to say. It was quite the thing. The (at the moment) final round against Valentia was just... pretty damn intense. So many Periods and Berries being tossed around. So thankful for Sapz and Hime being hilarious seige engines of annihilation (<3 Redrum Beat & Tenba Haouken). Seriously. ...That and Hime being comically fast. Just. Phew.

Though nothing will be as hilariously close as both my victories against Hibachi Mk. II with a party of Sana/Hime/Sapz/Drake. Long story short for the first one: Horrifying slugfest ensues, everyone but Drake dies, and Drake is just barely alive spamming STRIKE FORCE. Hibachi Hyper Blazes her and she barely survives, then finishes him off with one last STRIKE FORCE. Then I kinda derped out and couldn't get back on the ship so I had to do it all over again. Though this time it was Sana who was playing last man standing and spamming Kuugashouryuukyaku. Suffice to say, both ended with the respective survivor levelling up after victory.

Also, I loathe Fatal Circle. So much. ...actually I just kinda loathe Val in general, but whatevs.

And one last thing: is the sound from the Island Trail overworld supposed to be overlapping with the music in the various places you go to on it?

:* Awesome so far! though I have only completed Tark Fortress (ow, Val seems tougher than last time for some reason, but I got her down) in the storyline, I did wind up checking out Arkadia before I started Pensiole... a bit tough, but I did gain some nice exp from the Nergal Commander/Dullahan enemies. Hmm, maybe that's why Val was tougher, I was at 15 after that sidetrip...

But yes, quite lovely! Can't wait to get to the new content when I'm SUPPOSED TO! BV
