Title: MotK Fantasy Football 2014 - At least fantasy Marshawn Lynch won a title
Post by: Kilgamayan on July 05, 2014, 07:49:23 PM
We're back for Year 3! Our champion from last year has mysteriously vanished. Is this the year Buddhism finally strongarms its way to the top after two consecutive years of setting the regular season scoring standard? Will the ghosts of field clubs past find a way to return to glory? Will we all be cut down by a new mysterious Manager V of unknown North Carolinian origins? Will PX unironically draft someone that isn't a bird? Only time will tell!

So I've reinvited everyone that was in the league last year (Vic, Edible, Soul Devour, Arashi, Link, yuyukos, PX, Hainiryuun, Zirene, Drunk Aya, and TSO). If any of you are not interested in returning, please let me know and I will remove you from the invite list. If you ARE interested in returning but did not get an invite, give me a functional e-mail address and I will re-send it.

I am keeping all the same settings as least year; if we end up with only 10 managers, I will revert to Year 1's settings. (Exceptions: All Matt Schaub points will be doubled.) More teams can be added, of course! Anyone that wants to join should let us know and provide an e-mail address to which I can send invites.

The draft is currently schedule for August 31st at 8 PM US Eastern. This is subject to change; I have chosen this date and time as a placeholder because it is the last weekend day before the regular season starts and people tend to be home on Sunday evenings.

Hello friends, perhaps this year I will not lose the last 2 weeks in a row to miss the playoffs. :V
In the meantime, what other legal shenanigans will players get into that result in suspensions and entertainment value? :derp:

Want to point out that Yahoo has Jamaal Charles as the #1 player this year, which means you can be sure he will be completely mediocre this year.

And yet you'd be silly to not draft him #1 overall.  That team hasn't changed its offense much.

Yeah, later is better. I have an excellent feeling my family is going out to eat Saturday night and 8pm has a good chance of being during dinner. 9pm would be safer, 10pm would be just about 100% safe.

[20:50:40] <Reisen-Udongein-Inaba> That being said, my QB situation was garbage (Eli Manning/Kirk Cousins)

Ugh, kill me

I like the Rams, but they REALLY should have gotten a QB with one of the 82374598243677856 picks they got from the 'Skins.  I especially like how they have the Saints number these days.  I'd feel better about the Cardinals if not for Carson Palmer.  I don't expect a big slide from them, and with Aldon +1 out for SF they might be a contender for a wild card spot :V   Lions lol.  Bears will be interesting to watch as the only other good team in NFCN.  Falcons will remain terrible this year and Matt Ryan is so boring it's utterly indescribable.

Eli lucked into beating Brady the first time, and Brady was past his prime the second time (also the Giants were way healthier).  That's right, I said Brady is past his prime.  He's still great but he's no early-00s Brady.

The autodraft teams turned out pretty well, I think.  Few adjustments here and there like not having two kickers (why the fuck does yahoo still do this) and you should be good to go.

It does it because why in the world would you have 2 kickers? lol

Hell, there are quite a lot of people in money leagues that go without drafting kickers at all

I have one of the better drafts and I was in Ann Arbor away from home the whole time while it was taking place. Autodrafts are the best. I have possibly the best RB core in the league. :V

In fairness, losing Bulaga that early hurt a lot. I don't think he would have made a 20-point difference, but I think the game would have been a fair amount closer.

The 4th down sack and the safety are worth last least 10 right there imo.

But I'll put it more on the:

1) Running into the kicker penalty (3 points)
2) Only having 10 men on the field for a Seattle TD (7 Points)
3) Twice making 3rd down stops, only to give Seattle a free first down via penalty
4) Burning a TO for 12 men on the field
5) Inability to defend the read option (I'm looking at YOU Dom Capers)
6) Losing the turnover battle (I still think Jordy should have caught that)
Title: Re: MotK Fantasy Football 2014 - Edible Won The Draft Again edition

5) Inability to defend pretty much anything (I'm looking at YOU Dom Capers)

Fixed for fairness

Also if this isn't capers' last year on the job I think packers fans are going to riot.

We've already started rioting. Personally, I'd just would rather scrap the entire coaching stuff and start over, but that won't happen. Special teams has been awful for 5+ years. How Slocum still has a job is well beyond me. Packers haven't had a defense since the year they won the Super Bowl, and the offense is essentially entirely Rodgers. Just having Rodgers is pretty much worth 8+ wins on his own, but if GB is going to win another SB, the coaching we have isn't going to cut it.

It's less "turned him into" and more "actually used him".  He hasn't really improved all that much, but his carries have gone way up.

The Browns probably win the AFC North and have a serious shot at going deep into the playoffs. Brian Hoyer is a serviceable, competent quarterback who finally has all his weapons available to him and their defense is and has been reasonably good. Even Billy Cundiff is getting done in crunchtime, with his game-winning FG today. This just might be their year.

Panthers talk: Ron Rivera will be back next year, because his teams play ridiculously well in December (he's like 13-3 all time with the Panthers) and Jerry Richardson would HATE to pay a coach money to not coach (more than losing).

As beneficial as playoff experience would be to this team, we NEED NEED NEED a great OT, and that's just not going to be found after the 21st pick in the first round.

We're playing well though. J-Stew is playing incredibly well after being injured for...always. Cam is throwing well, Kelvin Benjamin can catch balls decently, the Other Receivers can draw coverage, Greg Olsen is too good for us, DL is finally gelling a little. We could probably beat Atlanta, and even the reeling Cardinals, and then get #rekt on the road at Whoever.

I'm so torn :(

(5) Arizona at (4) Carolina
1) Panthers are red hot coming off of a 4-0 finish.
2) Panthers seeking revenge for the 2008 drubbing the Cardinals gave them
3) Cardinals limped into the post-season on their 3rd string QB who almost got benched for their 4th string
4) Panthers will win and then get demolished by the Seahawks
5) I'd rather have an OT next year

Also I have no idea how the steelers lost.  Losing bell must have really fucked them up.
A couple things probably:

1) Jim was hanging out on the sidelines with John the whole game, meaning the Ravens had DOUBLE HARBAUGH POWER!
2) Kubiak called great plays all night, furthering the Texans -> Ravens brain drain started by Jacoby Jones
3) Steve Smith is their new Ray Lewis type of locker room motivator.
4) Flacco playoff bullshit *~*MaGiC*~*
5) Ben Tate is fucking awful, not to mention a terrible substitute for Bell

Marvin Lewis and Andy Dalton will both be fired next year unless they win the whole damn thing, 0-4 in the playoffs loooooool

That was totally DPI on Dallas, but Detroit was starting to choke long before that play.

Glad we get the Seahawks instead of the Packers in GB (again) so we can make our pending loss next week at least look close.

EDIT: With Cam Newton surviving his car accident and Ron Rivera surviving a two-alarm fire in his house last night, Panthers are confirmed for Team Of Destiny this year.

Brady is the boring but safe choice for mvp this game, imo.

It's not like the ravens or giants (#2) selecting flacco/eli when they were clearly not the best players on the field.

Deadspin or bust!
The first half was sleep inducing in it's awfulness, and both of Brady's picks resonate so much than Wilson's pick; playing against a "legendary (and injured) secondary" and he should have carved them up for so much more than he did.

Butler deserved MVP for single (double) handedly saving the game, especially considering that last year they gave the MVP to Malcolm Smith for 1 (one) recovered fumble and 1 (one) interception returned for a touchdown.

Pete Carroll deserved MVP for The Worst Playcall In Super Bowl History.

Gronkowski deserved MVP for his TD reception and disrupting the Seattle secondary the entire game so that the rest of his team were able to make plays.

Tom Brady is boring and predictable in his old age, and he's never going to drive a Chevrolet Colorado, but I bet Butler would have loved it.

Then again, Aaron Rodgers won MVP of the league once again for "being the Packers QB" so imo all MVP awards should be eliminated.

Random factoid:

For some reason, my high school got picked (or paid money) to be in the NFL Super Bowl Rally commercial that appeared right after the 3rd quarter ended.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pRha3n5qrA

They're Arcadia High School and appear twice at 0:20 and 0:36. Back when I was in high school, the marching band was almost 400 students. I'm sure it's gone up a bit since then.

The football game was fantastic. A few of the guys put money on the Patriots +3.5 spread. So even when Wilson got intercepted at the end, they were still stressed because "the Patriots can't take a knee there, it'll be a safety and they'll only be up by 2 points." Then Seattle encroached. So much cheering at the end. It was a great time.
