Title: The Elements of Gensokyo
Post by: [Y]oukai [J]esus on July 17, 2011, 03:21:49 PM
                                                                                                                The Beginning

First, there was nothing. just an empty space that was filled with darkness, corruption, sickness - It could have been called Hell itself. But no, it was called Chaos, the primordial ooze that made up the universe before it came into being what it is now. Chaos, although being filled with all these hated aliments, was good too, in every way imaginable. Chaos is a Paradox. The Creator was there, it always was, sleeping, gathering it's infinite amounts of energy that would soon be comprised into everything in the universe. Then, it unleashed it's untold, ununderstandable, everlasting eternal power... And slept, once again, until the time when Chaos shall emerge from us all, and be corrupted once again, by the evil that lurks within all of us.

And when God awakes, the world shall be recreated into the Light. But Chaos has other plans... for this time... It shall rule, instead of God.

"Power..."

It still exists within us. It exists within everything, and it, together with the energy of the Creator, that sparked the "Big Bang", still lies in us all. Everything Living and UnLiving...

"Mana, Mind, Spirit. All of these, is Chaos. Life, Personality, and your existence, is Energy."

According to science, all of what we know today was made by the Big Bang, yes; an explosion of pure energy and the sorts. No, it's not like that. It was never like that. Scientists discovered just an implosion of energy from a singular source, what it was, shall never be revealed to the public. Apparently, Japan was the first continent to have came into existence when the earth was born by the flames of the creator, and Gensokyo was made at that moment too, but at that time, it covered the whole of Japan. The Hakurei border was made by Yukari, the Youkai of Borders, and the one of the earliest Hakurei descendants, using the powers of the highest order of the Gods - Dragons. What they didn't realise, was that the creation of the Hakurei Border, will spark the emergence of Chaos... And the eventual return of the one, true god... However, it was estimated by Yukari, to take a million years to reach this stage, so they really didn't have to worry... and of course, no one knows about Gensokyo...

Soon enough, the outside world discovered Anti-Matter. It was the complete opposite of Matter, and it was the leftover remains of ther personified Chaos. A complete, perfect mixture of every Element and Chaos, into one, small little compacted ball.  They tried making Matter and Anti-Matter contact. It failed, horribly. Fire, Lightning, Ice, Rock, beams of Light, tentacles of Darkness and all the other elements, spewed out, unseen by the scientist's eyes - They were not chosen by God, to see what they have done... The continuous experimentation on anti-matter eventually led to enough pure energy in the outside world to start infecting the border, and push the process of evolution in Chaos to it's limit, making the estimated One million years until recreation, start in four years.

No one knows the effects of this... Yet...

---

You are a normal human from the outside, with no real knowledge of Gensokyo or well, much about myths and legends at all. On 9th of May, the world you know it colapses around you, and purple cracks tear through the fabric of spacetime, devouring you into it's abyssal maw. What you don't know is that you are one of the Chosen ones, to restore order, to the currently fading Universe, which would happen to start, within Gensokyo.

---

Rules and Stuff:

You start out at a random place in Gensokyo, although you may choose to appear in Makai, Heaven or the Underground too. As a normal human, you are very, very weak compared to the Youkai in this place, but you could just grow stronger... All of you have a single note in hand, with a certain Touhou's name that you shall choose. After meeting that Touhou, you will gain a spiritual, "Chaotic" and "Elemental" connection to her/him. You are able to venture to the outside for at most a day, before having to rest in Gensokyo for three more days, oh and you can bring your Touhou too.

The Spiritual Connection allows you to talk to your partner in their head, like a psychic. Although you can't talk to them if you or the other are too tired, mortally wounded, or have your mana sealed. You also use this to travel back and forth to the outside and Gensokyo.

The Chaotic Connection allows you to adapt to the Chaos that attacks you, only once, allowing you to grow stronger while consuming it. You and your Partner cannot do this at the same time, and if you use it, it will be at the cost of most of your partner's mana, stamina, and physical well-being. Once you have consumed the attacking Chaos, you gain a certain special ability, which may evolve and grow stronger in time.

The Elemental Connection is a hidden system that will be revealed in due time...

Chaos is unable to affect you, physically, but is able to affect your mentality, energy, and your partnered Touhou, and if she/he dies, you will have a fate worse then Death, however, you do have one chance before death... Chaos is currently unknown to everyone in Gensokyo, including you. You arrive in Gensokyo a month after Touhou 12.8.

Chaos can take the form of everything, and anything, and is hostile to all. The Chaos that begin to spawn in Gensokyo are semi-intelligent, and can absorb anything from the environment to get a "Tier" There are six Tiers in the Chaos Evolutionary line. After gaining a Tier by absorbing something from the environment, they have to absorb a living thing, followed by Energy that lies in a Touhou, and then an Elemental. In very, very rare circumstances, a Chaotic Spawn will reach Tier 6, and become almost unkillable... Unless...

Elementals are rare beings of energy that is related to their element. One spawns when a Chosen One has made a connection with his/her Touhou. They are currently, Neutral.

Standard Text-based RP rules apply. You guys here should know what that means if you've read Waking Up from the Dream, or Tir Na Nog, etc.

Let me know if this needs any changes.

Name: Aesera Laoresk

Touhou character: Kanako Yasaka

Age: 25

Gender: Female

Personality: In a word, pragmatic. To her, the only thing that matters when deciding on a course of action is how well it would work. All other concerns are secondary, including emotional and moral concerns. Such things are part of what determines her objectives, but once she has a goal, they are set aside. If the thoughts or feelings of others are relevant to an objective, they will of course be taken into account, but otherwise, they are not considered. She does not believe that the ends justify the means; she simply consideres justification irrelevant. Aesera also has a very unconventional way of thinking, which, when combined with her willingness to do pretty much anything, tends to produce some interesting results, and her fondness for mind games only serves to amplify this.

History: Fairly ordinary. She does have a history of alienating other people, but this isn't something she does deliberately; in general, it's a side effect of her willingness to take essentially any action. Many people have been put off by some of the suggestions she's made. She did very well throughout the entirity of her schooling-academic acheivment was the objective of such a thing-and found employment without much difficulty. She is a business consultant, and her combination of unconventionality and willingness to take essentially any action has served her well in that profession.
Aesera's personal life, too, is fairly unremarkable-well, except for the fact that she's a lesbian. Personal habbits include regular exercise and watching her diet; being out of shape isn't very practical. She takes part in martial-arts training for self-defense purposes, and the exercise is good for her, too. She also makes a point of keeping an 'emergency kit' on her at all times, carried in the backpack she wears instead of carrying a purse. This kit does include the basics, such as first-aid supplies, and also a fair amount of water and low-volume, dense foods of the millitary-ration style-not the best tasting, maybe, but it lets her carry a significant supply with her. Other items include, but are not limited to: a knife, a lighter, a magnifying glass, a basic flora-and-fauna field guide, sunscreen, bug spray, and even a change of clothes (basic athletic-style clothes, so they're small and easy to fit in with everything else). And, of course, she does have basic wilderness-survival skills. She could make preperations for every possibility she could think of, but such a thing is simply impractical; better to have a basic survival kit and a few basic plans and improvise as necessary.

Sorry for the double post,

You're accepted, however, you may have to change a little once I update the plot and the character creation system here. Also, we need at least 6 players, including me, to begin this.

May the Elements welcome you into this fantasmic universe.

Mostly just reserving a spot. It's 10:30 P.M. right now, so I'd rather wait until I'm wide awake before I start altering the same character I use in almost every RP for this format working on the character I'm using.

...That, and I can't decide between Nazrin and Nitori. :P

Done updating, please re-read the rules, and plot. I've decided to let Character Creation remain how it is now. If it's too confuzzling, feel free to ask questions. I have a weird way of phrasing things. Haha...
Title: Re: The Elements of Gensokyo
Post by: Aya Squawkermaru on July 19, 2011, 12:36:24 AM
Hope I'm not forgetting anything.

---

Name: Newan Kudo

Touhou character: Nazrin

Age: 27

Gender: Male

Personality: Apathetic towards people as a whole, but not hateful. Rather blunt, which can be seen as a good thing or a bad thing. Incredibly intelligent. Doesn't like to open up to people, and has never really had a friend, which is probably why he is so indifferent to people. He doesn't hate people, however; he just doesn't like to deal with them.

History: After getting his Doctorate in Engineering in the United States of America, he decided to move to Japan, where he could actually put his skills in Engineering to use. He doesn't remember anything that happened before the age of eight. Has nightmares almost every night, but he can never remember what they're about, and has decided to ignore them to the best of his abilities. Since moving to Japan, he has developed a ?purely analytical? interest in Japanese mythology.

Others: Somehow manages to stay relatively thin despite an apparent lack of exercise. Has a large scar across his back, although it doesn't look like a cut; more like a large oval, as though the the whole area of skin had simply died, and never grew back.

He has short, black hair, black pants, a more formal white shirt, a black tie, and glasses. He carries a bag that contains a notebook, a few pens and pencils, a ruler, a protractor, and a graphing calculator.

Hmmm... On another note, hai bad submission (In before not really as bad as it seems).

Name: Rhiseza Torias
Touhou: Youmu Konpaku
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Personality: Bit of a shut in. Gets uncomfortable around more than three or four people, more because she doesn't want to have that many people who might be watching her at any given time. Is a bit bad with feelings and explaining things, because she doesn't know how to put them into words. Does, however, always try to justify her own actions to herself (and sometimes others).
History: Rhiseza is a bit of a loner figure. She avoided being social through most of her childhood, preferring to stay at home, reading a book. Once she got through high school, she got a job as a librarian, doing quite a bit of the work herself, while she took classes at university. Prior to the purple cracks in the world, Rhiseza was finishing up work at the library for the night, being the last one out as normal.
Others: Always carries her backpack with her, which contains a few books, a case for her glasses, two filled water bottles, an inhaler, a notebook, a deck of cards, and a small box at the bottom which contains snacks (she eats often, but doesn't eat much at all). Has asthma and is a bit on the weak side, but is fast when she needs to be. Rarely ever uses her inhaler anyways, primarily because she is a bad judge of when she should.
Appearance-wise, she's about five feet and five inches in height, and only weighs about 107 pounds. Her hair is dark brown, always worn in a braided ponytail which hangs down to her waist, her skin is fairly pale (as a result of not really being out in the open much), and her eyes are green. Her glasses are a simplistic black frame, and she always wears a short-sleeved white shirt (decorated with black flower-like patterns and faded gray-ish ones in the background) and a long (about knee-length) black skirt, along with a pair of black flip-flops, though she prefers to walk barefoot.

Post by: [Y]oukai [J]esus on July 26, 2011, 08:23:46 AM
Hmm... You could elaborate more on her History and tell us more about her personality. Why is she uncomfortable with more people around her? What does she do when she trys to explain her feelings and explain things out, does she have any habits that she usually do when she tries to communicate with people, like stuttering and such?

The Elements currently remain Pending towards your sign-up.

I see.

On that note, you're probably doing this anyway, but I'd recommend leaving sign-ups open after the RP starts, at least for a bit. Maybe not once the story gets super involved, but until then.
Title: Re: The Elements of Gensokyo
Post by: [Y]oukai [J]esus on July 28, 2011, 08:33:25 AM
Indeed, I'm going to let the sign-ups still be opened to all even when the RP starts, however, I will close it when some... unfortunate events happen in the RP to stop the dimensional cracks from dragging people in.

I've been way too busy lately. I really really like to join, but time constraints don't allow me to do so.

Cancel your reservation? Alriiiight. The Elements have reluctantly allowed your subtle Departure, however, they have left in your place, seven nights for a potential comeback - As the gates of the universe are still open to all.

- Updating list tomorrow..

The List is now updated, post number #16. The RP will start in a week or so, I'm really hoping others will join. My sign-up will be the last one right before the first Rp-post comes into place. I'm sure to make sure this doesn't be forgotten like Tir Na Nog. I wonder what happened to Tired/Warm anyway. Squawkers, you know anythin' about it?

And is there any other way to get more people to join :<!?
Title: Re: The Elements of Gensokyo
Post by: Aya Squawkermaru on July 29, 2011, 04:29:44 PM
Well, when he was gone the first few days, he attributed it to having to deal with the guest at his house. I'm guessing that that escalated, causing him to lose what little time he had to come to this forum. He and I only ever talked via PM, so I don't know any other way to contact him.

If this is the case, he should return some time in early August. I think he said that that was how long the guest was going to be staying with his family.

Regardless, I'd really appreciate it if this one wasn't forgotten. This place has plenty of text adventures, but I prefer good, old-fashioned Role Playing. I used to run a sub-forum about it, actually.

As far as getting more people to join, I'm guessing that once this actually gets off the ground, people may become intrigued and join. You also might want to add a link to the topic in your signature. It may not bring any more people, but it's worth a try.

Title: Re: The Elements of Gensokyo
Post by: Aya Squawkermaru on July 30, 2011, 08:26:38 PM
Well, I really only do signatures with sources, and I'm not even sure how I'd represent this RP in a signature anyway, so you'd probably have to ask one of the actual artists.

Anyway, I just have a question here. Feel free to wait until the RP actually starts to explain this, I just figured I should ask before I forget. When do we, the players, start controlling our Touhou character? Do we control them from the beginning and we have to guide them to our OC, do we gain control once we encounter them with our OC, or do we have to forge the bond between them and our OC before we control them? I'm guessing that it's the second option, but I may as well ask.

Title: Re: The Elements of Gensokyo
Post by: [Y]oukai [J]esus on July 31, 2011, 01:41:08 PM
Alright, guys~...

The Elements Of Gensokyo - Act One, will begin on Friday. Hopefully, we will get alittle more people, and by then, our dear friend with Alice Margatroid will join, and my sign-up will be posted as well~. The Sign-ups will still be open for another week or so before being closed for the time being and turned into a discussion thread, however, those who still want to join after the sign-ups close will be put on a Delayed Reservation, until certain events in the RP are activated.

The Roleplay rules shall now be further reminded to all and clarified.

1) You start your first post in the real world, with the second post with your character be written by me as you enter Gensokyo.
2) Before you has established your links to your chosen Touhou(Via the little note with their name on it), I will control them.
3) Chaos can only affect YOUR CHARACTER mentally and spiritually. They will affect YOUR TOUHOU Physically, Mentally, and so on.
4) There are some hidden... "achievements..."

Now, the current characters...

1) Byakuren Hijiri (Youkai Jesus)
2) Alice Margatroid (XinXin)
3) Nazrin (Squawkers)
4) Youmu Konpaku (Orphea.Russ)
5) Kanako Yasaka (GuyYouMetOnline)
6) Unselected (Princess Moebucks~)

Hidden 'achievements', you say~? I am most curious now.
Title: Re: The Elements of Gensokyo
Post by: [Y]oukai [J]esus on July 31, 2011, 01:50:26 PM
Indeed, Hidden achievements of sorts. There will be encounters for all of you, as I'm playing both the GM, and my own character. At the end of the posts where you somehow manage to secure those... achievements, you will be granted one out-of-Rp star for you, which can be used when... Certain things happen. You may also use your stars when Act Two comes about, and the achievements all have their very own uses.

Forgive a man's ignorance, but I gotta ask while I'm drunk, because I might forget when I'm sober.
What exactly IS the difference between a 'traditional' RP, and a 'z-adventure', by which I mean the kind of game that Purvis, Draco, or I am currently parsing?

The secrets of the gateway of 'traditional-RPing' shall be opened to those who seek it's humble knowledge, within with spiraling, endless adventure which is the battle-hungry, adventurous and curious side of our souls. A traditional Roleplay is one much like "Waking Up From The Dream", where people do not give commands like >Retrieve arms from gaps, to the GM which is currently being Yukari. Where people work together to formulate out their own plots, their own characters, their own adventures, with the GM's interference in times of where the Rp may or may not stray off. Well, that... should explain it all~

Just to let you know, humble Sourfang, if you want to know how a traditional RP goes down~, join us. The Elements shall welcome you.

Question: does my character have to be in Japan prior to May 9? Or can he be in another country?

They can be anywhere, anytime, doing... anything. It would be amusing to see what people would come up with the... latter.

Well, here's my character sheet. If anything needs changing, please tell me.

Name: Vante Alunan

Touhou: Mystia Lorelei

Age: 22 years old

Gender: Male

Personality: Vante is a hardworking person who often puts his words very bluntly. He expects things to go his way, and, quite obviously, gets angry when it doesn?t. When given problems, he always thinks of the many ways he can solve them, like how he?s going to spend his free time. He doesn?t like taking up responsibilities, but when he does, he is serious about committing to it, although he sometimes exhibits silliness in his methods.

History: Vante Alunan, the eldest in his family, was always a silent person. Proudly born in a Filipino family, as he would say in his high school years, he didn?t like talking, even to his parents or his siblings.

He kept to himself during his time in grade school, but began opening up during high school, even if sometimes he offended people with his bluntness. During these times, he was an honor student, even part of the top three in his batch. He hated the pressure that came with it; luckily for him, those days passed by with relative idleness. He didn't do much outside of school. In the four years he spent in college taking up the program of education, he chased his hobbies freely, the arts and sports alike. However, arnis, the only self-defense martial art he actually enjoyed and had experience in, quickly overtook the piano and the word processor.

Only a fresh graduate, Vante decided to try his luck in living overseas. Japan was the obvious choice; he had fantasized about living there and immersing himself in their literature and the anime culture. That, he did, along with a year's worth of work as an assistant teacher. And perhaps his life was going to go along its way if the event on May 9th never happened.

Prior to that event, he was at home, going through some notes he had taken about katakana.

Others: This mental strength he has was balanced with physical weakness; he had a skinny body and a weak constitution. He often joked about how he was only skin and bones, seeing as his skeletal frame was slightly visible already. The precious eyes he was given was blurred by quite a lot, so now he couldn?t see far without glasses. He couldn?t quite take a hit as well as anyone else, and his strength was mediocre compared to others. No matter how much he tried exercising or even body building, as was his habit for the last four years, he never got any stronger or fatter. He only got used to the feel of the weights.

He always brings along his iPhone wherever he goes, and as time passed, two baston, striking sticks used for arnis, as well. Never missing from his wrist is a watch, and from his eyes, a pair of glasses. His usual wardrobe consisted of a T-shirt (whatever he gets from the closet, really) and jeans, although sometimes he would wear a jacket over the shirt.

He wears a perpetually blank face, as a result of his being silent for so long. He has short messy black hair, a light brown skin tone, eye color of the same shade, and a height of 5'7".

Forgive a man's ignorance, but I gotta ask while I'm drunk, because I might forget when I'm sober.
What exactly IS the difference between a 'traditional' RP, and a 'z-adventure', by which I mean the kind of game that Purvis, Draco, or I am currently parsing?

There's no parser, and no >Stuff happened type of thing. It's like we're bouncing fanfiction off of each other. It'll be easier to see what we mean when it actually starts, but here's at least an idea.

By the way, nice sig YJ.

Edit: Oh, it seems YJ already explained all that. Oh well.

Short answer: I'm not sure this is the type of game for me. I'm still getting the hang of Z-adventures, and this seems a much larger beast. I was merely curious. (long answer available upon request.)
But thanks for asking.

Ooh...this looks interesting.
--

Name: Gale Halebeck

Touhou: Rin Kaenbyou

Age: 21

Gender: Male

Personality: Gale is a man of science and rationality.  He believes everything can be explained without magic or spirits.  Such things are feeble superstitions to him.  He grows frustrated when confronted with something that he can't explain, and will do everything in his power to understand it.  He is methodical in his mannerisms; he doesn't flourish his speech with fancy adjectives or fluffy superlatives.  As a matter of fact, sometimes he finds it easier to simply not speak at all.  That way he won't get frustrated with what he believes makes up most of society: idiots.

History: Gale's childhood was relatively uneventful.  He was born and raised in America, and had been attending a prestigious college there until recently.  He excelled in most of his classes growing up.  Math and science were (and still are) second nature to him, after all, and he could easily memorize facts for history.  Other than gym, English was the only class he ever really struggled in.  His grades were fine, as he understood enough of the technicalities of language to do well on the tests.  While his essays almost never contained a single error, his teachers were always exasperated with the lack of creativity and brevity they saw in them.  He never really befriended anybody; he wasn't cruel to any of his classmates, but he never went out of his way to talk to them, either.  Most of the people that went to school with him considered him a bit of a snob, but since he was always done with his math classwork in enough time to help them, they never objected to his attitude.

Gale's parents always wondered what caused their son to turn out the way he did.  His mother was a musician and his father was an artist.  Their house was a mess, and their lifestyle was anything but structured.  Perhaps they were too busy, at times, to care for their son, and he grew frustrated and rejected them.  His father did go through a period of time in which hardly any of his art sold and he almost had to sell their large house, and he did recall being angry and busy.  Once he thought about it some more, he didn't really remember his son much during that time, either.

Regardless, Gale was easily accepted to one of the nation's top schools of science, and his life continued as it always had.  He was a bit happier, as he had met people with outlooks similar to his, but they didn't ever mingle.  They were too busy with research or studying to do things like socialize.  He accepted an offer to complete his studies in Tokyo at a university known for its technologically advanced facilities.  He quickly began learning the language, irritated, of course, by all of the ways one could say the same thing.  It would be a lot easier, he thought, if they just had one word for each meaning.  The writing system was a bit too flashy for his tastes, but he learned it nevertheless.

Japan didn't change him much, either (at least, so far).  He continued his studies, just as planned, and was doing quite well.  Now becoming content with his knowledge of the universe, he hungers for more knowledge of its secrets.

Others: Gale is very narrow.  He has a narrow face, a thin, tall body (just a bit taller than six feet), and just about anything else that can be considered "narrow."  He has black hair that almost reaches his shoulders and is always a bit messy.  He usually wears a sweatshirt and jeans.  His eyes are gray.  He wears a watch, and the only things of note in his pockets are a pencil and lint.  He's not too strong, and while his body is relatively frail, he does have quite a bit of willpower.  How else do you think he survives in such a stupid world?

Name: Katelin Longinus (Nanaya Longinus)
Self-Proclaimed Title: Katelin Elntila SoulReaver

Age: 23

Gender: Female

Physical Description: Katelin is about 163 cm tall, and about 60kg or so. She is slim, so much so that people think shes anorexic, but it's just because she has really, really high metabolism, and all that food she eats goes somewhere other then her arms, legs or stomach - her chest. She has a fairy respectable bust size, around D-cup. Katelin has white skin, without any brownish-tints to it, as she doesn't really go out much. The only problem with her almost perfect face is a scar running from her cheek towards her chin.Katelin has long, wavy black hair that's up to about her chest length, that she usually ties into a ponytail so that it looks better. She has a long fringe that she usually swipes to her right, along with two long sideburns too.

Personality: Katelin's personality is like a coin, it has two completely different sides. With one side that mirrors how beautiful she looks, with the other side, more of a librarian-type girl. First of all, the side that mirrors how Katelin looks like. Katelin's more arrogant side is an immature brat of sorts, having a liking to disturb people, show off, and try to be the best in everything, all the while defying rules... if there are any, that is. She's popular, due to the fact that she's beautiful, but that's about it. People don't hang around her because she gives off some weird aura that is commanding and sorts. She can be easily befriended even in this first side of her. Katelin treats different people differently. And differently, I mean really, really differently. She can treat the friends that she has with respect, kindness, and such, but she treats others just like trash. She will backstab, sabotage, and be a complete douche to people she dislikes, but only if people encourage her to do so. She can't bring herself to hate people because of how she really is like. She can never hate, and never really understand what's right from wrong, quite innocent in fact, but this attitude of her shields her off from the world.

Next, with her alone and just someone, she is a shy little girl, who is just, afraid. Afraid of the world, afraid of lonelyness. She doesn't know much at all, and with her godlike imagination and creativity that she got from playing games, reading novels and writing, her own little world is one of complete happiness that is her only comfort zone without real friends. She won't really come close to people when alone, but if coaxed into it, will start to open up, and spread her awesomeness, as she describes it, to everyone around her. Really, there's nothing much to talk about how she really is like. Just a innocent, imaginative girl that's scared. Of everything.

History: Katelin's History is critical to the storyline, and will be revealed in time.

Other: Katelin isn't that physically outstanding, but she knows quite a few moves from pokemon, as in, physical moves, that she can execute out quite tremendiously. She can write stories, poems, draw and play games. Vague, I know... If I elaborate on it... Let's just say that her skills in gameplay and story writing and drawing are too awesome to imagine properly.

Hai!! I'm the phantom Alice Margatroid picker that had never had any previous posts.

Name: Alyssa Crendelheim

Touhou: Alice Margatroid

Age: 14

Gender: Female

Physical Description: Alyssa looks much like a mirror image of Alice, just pre-pubescent and thus much shorter. To describe her hair, which is slightly different, she has short, blonde hair that she frames with a hairband, although it is far more elegant than Alice's, having jewellery on it. Her hair reaches down to her chest, although oftentimes it is pulled back behind her back, so it is not far too noticeable. Her eyes are also noticeably

Personality: A young child and caged from the outside, Alyssa has little personality to note of. Shy and naive are one of the set of characteristics a young child usually has, and she is one such child. However, under the cover of quiet, she is mature and intelligent in her mannerisms. As a child of a powerful figure in England, she had been watched under the judgmental eyes of her mother. The training that she underwent was harsh, but from this she can keep herself under absolute control. Her intelligence allowed her to make herself the perfect child in the eyes of those who judge her. When not in the presence of nobles, her mannerisms are much more of the regular child that she much prefers, that she wants to be. She does not talk much, but whenever she does, people marvel at the wisdom that she hides.

History: Born to a famous family in England that has ties to the Royal Family, Alyssa grew up learning manners, manners, manners. Nothing but that. Her father is a strong figure in business, and what with his flying around all over, he rarely ever sees her. Her mother, an overlord over every one of the three daughters, ensures that she is on her absolute best treatment twenty-four hours a day. As a result of this, Alyssa has largely grown up without any human emotional support of any sort, as have her older sisters of 16 and 17. The difference is that her sisters cling to their father for support, as they claim all the attention that he has whenever he is back. However, when it comes to Alyssa, he does not spend much, if any time at all, with her.

Due to this ostracisation from society, Alyssa spends much of her time reading books and playing with dolls. The world recreated by the books and her dolls consists of her entire emotional balance that she had created single-handedly. Needless to say, she was an absolute genius in both IQ and EQ which was the sole reason she did not break down mentally. The occasional guest of a similar age that meets Alyssa does not find much to her. That is because her entire world is build around herself, creating a barrier against everyone around her. Her mother rarely ever finds things to criticise about her manners, and often when she does it is over things so minor that they may as well have been fabricated. Her sisters, riding on this wave, often work together with her to passively battle against their monster mother.

As of her age of 14, Alyssa still undergoes private tuition and has her world within the fictitious worlds she has grown so dear to. A world like Gensyoko? Well, that's just the actualisation of one of the worlds she creates.

Others: Alyssa drags around one doll, a doll she calls Mira, meaning "wonder" in latin. This is her emotional support, in that it acts much like a safety blanket. It does not do much, but it reminds Alyssa of all the adventures she has had, and in those worlds Mira was one of her friends, a living friend.

You know what. What the hell. Might be new, but everybody gotta start somewhere. I expect to cock up a time or two at first, of course, but I'm willing to learn.
It'll take me a couple days to work up an OC, between work and brushing up on my Irish history, so can I ask for a reservation? Take me that long to decide between Shinki and Reisen, as well. First choice would've been Byakuren (massive fanboy here) but it ain't like there's no other good choices. Just take some thinking.

Or will you be accepting folks after this starts, as I see it will be 'in a few hours', as you say? If so, so be it. Still have me own game and Skyseas, once Draco comes back.

Just Sour'll do fine. Now, I haven't done any chargen like this since I played on old transformers MUSHes, so let's see how badly I do.

Name: Francis (Frank) O'Donnell

Age: 64

Gender: Male

Touhou: Reisen Udonge

Personality: Very rough around the edges, he fits the stereotype of a crotchety old man rather well. He has no time for fools. He's adapted to the changing of the world around him rather well, but he still complains about it at every opportunity, the irrascable old grump. His favourite phrase is 'back in the day', which the crowds at his favourite watering hole usually sing out when he stops in on the weekends. Once you get down past the bristly bits, however, he's not all that bad a guy. He's fiercely proud of his country, and his family, and he has a pronounced sense of humor, even if it comes across as quite snarky, even to the ones that know him. Even at his age, he's not afraid of a fight, and while it isn't as easy to provoke him as it used to be, he can still hang with most younguns in a scrap. He keeps himself in good shape, and he's proud of it. Still has a sense of fancy, despite his harsh life, he loves to tuck into fantasy books and folklorish tales. He was the kid who went searching for fairy circles in the woods, and went with his girl to go find unicorns on warm spring days.

History: Born in Dublin, 1947, he was the eldest son of an painter and a musician. He had limited schooling in his younger days, though a bit more than his two younger brothers, thanks to his familiy being a bit on the low end of the money ladder of Irish society. Having the father he did didn't help matters much, either socially or educationally, for his father, Francis senior, was a militant member of the IRA. He put down his guns when he settled down and married, but his three sons grew up with the vehement hatred of the English of their father. Despite this, Frank led what might be considered a good life. He learned how to sing, to dance, to play the fiddle, even dabbled in art under his mother's hand. He found whatever work around Dublin he could find, and even found a girl when he was 20; a young transplant from Cork, Maggie Ross. The two were married late in 1969, when Frank was 23, and everything was going quite well for the young man. Up until the Bloody Sunday massacre in Derry.
All four men of the O'Donnell clan went north at that point, to join the fight against the English, and free their home country from oppression. Frank specialized in explosives rather than firearms, and for five long years they fought the good fight against the british. Well, apart from his youngest brother John, who was killed by a loylist after only a month. Frank was wounded badly twice in shootouts with the british, and to this day, he walks with a cane and a limp, due to damage in his right leg. It was this injury that convinced him that his fight was done. Maggie had given birth to their son, Michael, not long after Frank went north, and the thought of dying before he ever saw his son finally overcame his patriotism. And so, once he could walk again, he smuggled himself out of the north and back to his family, who had moved to Cork in the interevening years.
The next few years were not easy on Frank, as his young son was alienated from him, and Maggie's family hated him for leaving their daughter. Maggie herself, however, was different. She understood why he'd gone, and welcomed Frank back with no resentment. Eventually this love won over their son, and the two were reconciled, although the same could not be said of the inlaws. Frank became an artist, albeit not an enormously successful one, so Maggie became the primary bread-winner while Frank looked after their son and twin daughters, Aria and Sara. This changed, however, in 1981, when Frank's surviving brother Myles and his friend arrived, asking to stay for a few days. Which was all well and good, up until Irish police broke in and arrested Myles and his friend for their known terrorist activities, and arrested Frank as well for harboring a felon. All three were shipped off to england for trial.
The british couldn't prove that Frank was involved with the IRA, but he was convicted of two counts of harboring a felon, and sentanced to ten years in a Liverpool jail. He served them all, unlike his brother who served 6 months of a life sentanced before getting shivved, and for ten long years, got to experience the life of an Irish terrorist in a British jail. He acquired more scars in that time than he did as a member of the IRA. But although his body was damaged, his spirit remained unbroken, for he knew his children deserved a good man, not the kind of man he could have become in there.
His son Michael had a surprise waiting for him when he got out in 1990. Not only had the boy found a girl, he'd gone and gotten her pregnant. He would have married her in short order, but he wanted to wait until his father could be there. Frank had already missed so much of his children's lives, Michael didn't want him to miss his son's wedding.
Becoming a grandfather mellowed Frank quite a bit. The harshness that his life had beaten into him softened considerably when little Nora was born, and led him to rediscover his love of the arts. He and Maggie were blessed with child once more, in '91, with the birth of Rachel. Free of the conflict and the law, he finally had a chance to have a life with his family. He found family life suits him very well. The past twenty years have been very peaceful for him; he's made peace with his past, his children have grown and his three eldest have families of their own now, with Rachel the youngest in college. His beloved Maggie was taken in 2006 by cancer, but his family came together around him, which made things easier on the aging man.

Other: As noted, Frank gets around with a solid oak cane, because of his leg. Unlike others, however, he's taken self-defence classes on how to use that cane as a weapon. He may be disabled, but he refuses to be defenceless. Of course, the old Webley six-shooter revolver he carries helps as well, a holdover from his old IRA days. He also carries a simple flask of whiskey at all times. His livers' in great shape for his age, and he has the nickname 'Doubles' around town, as he only ever orders double shots at bars when he's drinking. His family is everything to him, and though he no longer considers himself a soldier, he'll do anything to protect them.

Oh my Oh my! It seems i might be too late if i don't think fast );

Hello, I just recently started visitng this forum. Years ago i was on a forum called AnimeRequiem, though now it is long dead, I still cherish my good memories of that place, along with the rememberance of my love for roleplaying.

So if it's not too late, I would like to join this roleplay. Of course i'll need a bit of time to think things over (since the plot is quite quite deep compared to all my previous experiences) of my character, but I'll try to quickly throw something together.

If it is too late then I'll just be sad since I missed out )=

Ah, yes, I wasn't sure if YJ had informed the rest of you. I won't be participating. YJ felt my OC was too old, which is understandable, and I didn't want to make another one. So Reisen's still up for grabs.

Hm..Okay! Thank you for your help :o

It'd probably be too much to ask for help with deciding on a touhou for my partner.

The only things I've figured out is it's not a midboss only, not a fairy, not a pc-98, and not a certain bug or -shivers- spider...

Added;; Too old? Aww you wont be joining ): that's too bad then...

Currently favoring my chara to be a meal for partners with Remi, but still thinking if I'd be good playing Remi or not...

Ah, I see. Well, it's too bad you won't be joining us. Maybe I can convince YJ that old people should be allowed into Gensokyo, too? :3

...Wait, how did you know we were talking about you, anyway?

Fakeedit: Oy, what you got against Wriggle? She mah homedawg.

Mainly I'm arachnophobic, but i don't like any kind of creepy crawlies... -shivers-

Off-topic Edit;; Nothing worse than waking up feeling itchy only to see you've got over 100 ants in bed with you QQ

Just because I couldn't participate doesn't mean I can't follow along. It's still an interesting world/story idea, and I love a good read.
Besides, I've never actually seen a traditional RP before. I'm curious.

Hmm.. Idk what exactly defines traditional, would you please enlighten me?

Chara;; Eientei crew, Medicine, and a few lower charas are out of the draw

Edit;; Okay brought the list of possible charas down to Reimu, Remilia, Mokou, Satori, Nitori, and Kogasa....though Kogasa might be too lower tier...plus she lives in a graveyard.....

Another Edit;; After reading through most profiles to make sure my character wasn't more or less a copy of someone else's character, I think I'm ready to begin writing my profile. Also already have the beginning thought up for her

Traditional basically means what we're doing, as opposed to Text Adventures, which is what I've usually seen Sour in (just as he reads this RP for enjoyment, I read text adventures for enjoyment.)

While I urge you to pick who you want, I think that Remilia would be an interesting pick, as we don't have anyone from the SDM.

I have a phobia of bugs, but Wriggle is still awesome.

Ah so it's just what i'm used to. Seeing as i know no other way rather than text rps.

Yeah, I think so too but I'm starting to rethink it. Are the partner's supposed to fight together as a team or what?

Oh my...writing the back story, and one part describes how my chara is really tired and eyes barely staying open.

Ironically, this is how i am atm... x_x

Yeah, you may want to check out the various text adventures sometimes (they're the ones called "So-and-so Quest"), if nothing else they're interesting to read.

We haven't had any conflict that involved the Players or their Touhou characters yet, but I'm pretty sure they fight as a team, yeah.

Okay. Hoping they the typical ones that im used to.

Yeah, but im taking that into consideration. Remi isn't really the type that would fight together with someone. x:

Imperishable Night called. It wanted me to tell you about Visionary Scarlet Team.

Edit: Besides, I think even Remilia would be willing to swallow her pride and work with someone if refusing to do so means the destruction of Gensokyo.

Yes I've played IN (btw Remi is great) but at certain parts it seems more or less she's just teasing Sakuya and avoiding a more honest partner relationship.

Hm Mokou might be fun. Flaming arrows of doom~

Only problem is I don't really know how to portray Mokou. (Despite reading the entire dialogues of three extras x_x')

Eh she seems kinda dangerous......and maybe like me a bit...

Edit;; Oh my...this backstory is turning out to be a lot longer than i expected  :ohdear:

I really do hope I don't get rejected for being overly detailed  :ohdear:

Eh... It's starting to get late, the sun will rise soon x:

So I think I'll take a break and continue tomorrow. Hopefully long descriptions are a good thing  :ohdear:

4th Edit? I finished the backstory! I hope it's good  :ohdear:

Now I'm off to sleep. nightnight.

I just noticed this, and even though you've probably already picked your Touhou character, I may as well give my take on this. A: Kogasa is the Extra Midboss of UFO, which is considered by many to be the hardest Touhou game. Not exactly Low-Tier. B. She doesn't live in a Graveyard, she lives in the skies. Her appearance in TD is just... well, a surprise.

Aren't all her appearances a Surprise!?

Yays :3 I'll probably be done writings for the most part before i sleep today. Starting to really consider Mokou because she's apparently tomboyish, so she'd probably be good for the kind of role i want.

If you're gonna choose Mokou, It'll take us longer to Hakurei Shrine, and you'll appear in the human village, with Vante and Alyssa. TOGETHER YOU WILL GET MOKOU BEFORE ADVANCING. WHOO.

Hmm Human village... get chase out by Keine? Crazy rampaging Were-hakutaku...

Edit;; Hype drained me of energy....so tired......then again it's 3am

All i need now is a name and to choose my Touhou.

Decision falls between Remilia and Mokou

Sorry I couldn't post earlier has a younger brother to take care of. He's sleeping now.

Name : Ranna (Ran or Ren for short)

Touhou : Fujiwara no Mokou

Age : 17

Gender : Female

Personality : At first glance, she is a cold and uncaring young lady. She doesn?t view the human race with much regard. She prefers to keep to herself and believes she?s better off without relationships. Though often harsh, her heart has not completely turned to stone yet. Deep inside is a girl longing for someone to create happiness with. She has a hot temper which will flare up if you rub her the wrong way, so it is best to act with caution when speaking of certain ?touchy? topics.
Despite her hot and cold temperament, She will not attack verbally without reason. Even if that reason be ridiculous and childish.

History : Born to Sumiko and Len. Ranna grew up with a loving mother and caring father. In her early years, she was a cheerful and warm child who enjoyed everything the typical young girl or boy would like. At the age of 6, a harsh reality came crashing through the doors. Her parents were killed in a traffic accident on their way to pick up a birthday cake for the young Ranna?s birthday. Ranna waited and waited for her parents to return home that night, but they never did. As the night began to turn to day, the weary Ranna, with her eyelids drooping and her head bobbing, finally fell asleep.
In the evening, she woke to the orange glow of the setting sun. Setting up she rubbed her eyes and looked around. Nothing had changed from the night before. Puzzled, she rose to her feet and began to look for a meal. Though she exhaustively searched the kitchen, she found nothing she could make (which is understandable considering she?s only 6 years old), So disappointed an hungry, she settled for a light snack instead of a full meal. After her snack she sauntered up the stairs and into bed. This pattern continued for at least a week before she decided she?d ask the police what had happened to her parents. So she set forth for the Police station. When she arrived she asked about her parents, but her hope was crushed when they refused to tell her anything. Sad and at the brink of tears, the young girl slowly began to saunter home. A young woman passing by took pity on the poor girl and treated her to a meal. For days afterwards, every now and then, the woman would drop by the child?s home and teach her some essential knowledge to survive. This went on for many months before child agencies took the young girl away, placing her into a foster home. The girl wasn?t pleased with this, and made a few attempts to go back to her home. None of these attempts were successful, and only ending in her punishment from these foster parents. Due to the fact that she wasn?t their child, they didn?t treat her the same as the other children, therefore, she was often malnourished, mistreated, and left out. The girl put up with the torment, promising herself one day she would escape and never come back. At this time, she was 11 years of age, and a long distance away from freedom.

Ranna?s school and social life didn?t receive much exposure due to the crisis of her early childhood. Because of this, she didn?t quite get along with others. Ranna kept to herself instead of building relationships with others. As she moved forward into junior high, the other students began to take a different approach. They believed that Ranna thought she was above the rest of her classmates, and that her reason for her antisocial tendencies was because she didn?t want to lower herself to their level. At the time, she didn?t think such things. Being of a decent intelligence she analyzed whether or not talking to the other students had any value or not, the conclusion being that no profit could be gained from human interaction. Her classmates, believing she was too proud to associate with them, started to torment and harass her. At this time all she could do was cower in fear from her oppressors. At the age of 13, she strengthened her confidence and, with a few of her only possessions and some survival supplies, she set out to go to her old home. After about 2 days of travel she had made it to the house. Her eyes widened and a child-like smile spread across her face. It was just how she remembered. She explored it fully before releasing a sigh of relief as she laid on her once perfectly sized bed, which had by now become too small for her, she decided she?d stay for a while and unpacked her small selection of items. That night she slept in her own bed as a commemoration of her once ideal life.

One day, while searching for a flashlight, she stumbled across a large box in the attic. Puzzled as to what she had tripped over, she searched for the key, which she eventually found beneath her mother?s pillow. Excited, she rushed back up to the attic, pushed the key into the hole, and turned. A pleasant click rang through the dusty old attic. Ranna smiled and lifted the lid of the box. To her amazement, the chest contained money of all sorts. After digging through the box, she noticed there was a letter taped to the inside cover of the box. Wondering about the contents, the girl opened the letter and began to read it. As she read, her hands began to tremble and tears began to slide down her face. Somewhere in her heart she knew what had happened to her parents, but this letter, that she read silently to herself, convinced her.
That her parents were dead.

That night she didn?t eat, and went straight to bed. The next morning she got up and went through the motions of life, all the while feeling a deep and sorrowful emptiness in her heart. In the evening, she sating down with an old book and began to read. As she flipped through the pages, a small slip of paper fell out of the book. Ranna leaned over to pick the slip up. On one side was a picture of her mother and father, and in her mother?s arms, was a tiny infant no more than a couple of hours old. This photo made her realize; there was no point in being stuck on the past, moving forward is the only way to go. With this the girl decided to use a large chunk of the money to start up her life. She went out and bought food for herself, she applied to get a part-time job, and began to take many out of school courses, mainly ones that taught her how to survive or protect herself.

Ranna lived like this for at least two years. She was once again healthy and quite happy. She had learned many things and had become a master archer able to pierce a single green apple surrounded by a minimum of 250 red apples, from an angle of 30 degrees above the ground level of the apples. When she had made enough money from her job to pay for another course, she decided to take one that would make up for many years of lost education. However the night before her first session, she had been found. Police stormed into the home, quickly awakening a sleeping Ranna. The girl quickly rose to her feet and began to pack her things. Before attempting an escape she ran up into the attic and stuffed the remaining cash into her bag. With the stairs blocked, the girl attempted a stealthy escape through the attic window, which sadly failed. The police apprehended her and forcefully returned her to her foster home. Ranna, acting even colder than she previously had, avoided all contact with these people at all costs.
After returning home from school one day, she found out that her stash of money had been stole by the same people who beat her and treated her like a mere pet. This was the last deed of betrayal.
After that incident, Ranna had little to no respect for humans. She reasoned all they did was betray her, and she decided to shut herself in and not let anyone reach her heart.

And so is the tale of a locked girl who wanders the world with no one else but her shadow.

Others : Is an excellent archer and slightly above average in most other forms of fighting or defense. Has much knowledge of survival.
