Patchy Quest: A Z-Machine Adventure
« on: November 16, 2009, 05:35:41 AM »
>You are Patchouli Knowledge! Hooray!
>You are Gensokyo's greatest freeloader. You've successfully fooled everything into thinking you are really smart, but in reality you're just good at research. You live in Scarlet Devil Mansion, and your conviction that the maid is trying kill has led you to summon a familiar to serve your tea. You have health issues, which have kept you from reaching your full potential. You've written several books about various topics. Marisa has stolen most of these books and has promised she has willed them back to you.
>You are presently in the Library of Scarlet Devil Mansion. Rows upon rows of old, familiar books line the walls and shelves along the floor, on more topics than you can possibly comprehend. Unfortunately, they are also in more languages than you can possibly comprehend as well, leaving a lot of the books outside of your ability to read. Here and there, you can see books of magic flying about and spontaneously reshelving themselves; you long ago gave up on trying to organize everything. Obvious exits are north.
>It is almost 90 degrees Fahrenheit to today; unseasonably warm for November. It has been like this for a week now, which has been terribly irksome. Your hands get all sweaty, and that stains the precious books. Fall is supposed for be for reading, dammit!

>You fall off your chair! Ow! What convinced you this was a good idea?

>develop anti-humidity spell for hands, have no reason to leave

>Anti-Humidity spells are the holy grail of library science. You theoretically develop one if you could get your hands on the correct components.

>Search for Dennis.
>If Dennis is not to be found, search for Towels.

>You find a book by Dennis Boryzky called "For Whom the Towels Shall Weep". Unfortunately, aside from the title, it is written in Bulgarian.

>write down component list for theoretical anti-humidity spell, take a copy with you

>You have a list handy, in fact! You will need: One Sun Shard, One Essence of Bamboo Flower, One Blessing of the Great Destructor, and the Eighth Force.

> North

>You leave the Library.
>You enter the foyer of the Scarlet Devil Mansion. Here you can see many expensive artworks covering the walls, and a few classical statues in tastefully arranged places. Grand stairways on either side of the foyer elegantly wend upwards toward a balcony that opens to the tower where Remilia stays. To the east are the maids' quarters, and to the west is the kitchen. To the south you can see elegant double doors leading outside. Off to the the side near the kitchen entrance is a small door leading to the basement.
>Sakuya is here, giving some maids some their orders. As they fly off, she notices you and for a moment, you suspect you see a murderous glare in her eyes. But if so, it only lasts for a fraction of a second, before she bows stiffly toward you.
>Obvious exits are SouthA, SouthB, East, WestA, WestB, and North

>HELL YEAH! CONSEQUENCES BE DAMNED!
>You ponder for a moment, then recall a scrap from a book you read a bit ago on the subject. Taking a moment to focus, you make a gesture that you pass off as scratching your chin, and focus on the invisible wind and...you discover that Sakuya has a healthy skeletal structure. You can only hold the effect for a moment anyways.
>You are now: A little winded

>"If the smoke I smell coming from the kitchen is any indication, yes, you should."
>If Sakuya falls for it, north

>"I don't smell anything..." Sakuya says, glancing toward the kitchen and sniffing at the air.
>You go North.
>You step outside, and are welcomed by an oppressive wave of heat. What are the Aki Sisters thinking?! Up ahead, you can see Meiling's guard station. She is outside, though her back is presently turned to you. A wrought iron wall blocks off the mansion from the outside world. To the east, you see a statue garden, and to the west a fountain, presently not operational.
>Obvious Exits are North, West, East, and South.

>Wait, where's Koakuma?

>inventory
>spell list
>history of sexual exploits

>Koakuma is presently on vacation, having been mandated one month off every five years as part of her contract. You have no idea where she went.
>Your Inventory contains
>Water Sign: Princess Undine
>Metal Sign: Metal Fatigue
>Five Elements Sign: Philosopher's Stone
>Chewing Gum
>List of Anti-Humidity Spell components.
>Being something of a shut-in, you don't have much of a love life. You wonder if it's all it's cracked up to be, as Koakuma is terrible in bed. Really terrible. You read the paper through it once.

>head for the guard station and look for someplace good to have a short sit at

>You head toward Guard Station. Hong Meiling hears you approach, looks over her shoulder, and smiles. "Yo P," she says, "How it hangin'?" Then she frowns. "Don't need to answer that, looks like. C'mon in."
>Meiling leads you into the guard station, which is stuffy and smells of stale sweat. But there is a chair there. Ah, it's good to be off one's feet.
