Though maybe Mode and I's first spellcard could be scripted like we're fighting between the two of us, and the player just got caught in the crossfire? Kinda like Mystic Chain's Kaguya and Mokou fight~

Apparently while I was thinking of a new spell card, I was reading this thing (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/OneWingedAngel), so here it is. This is by far my most complicated and most extensively-planned card yet.
And unlike the others, I'll try to actually program this one (I doubt it will go well, though) now that I finally have Danmakufu working.
*I have defined terms like XY and relinked several items for better reading.
Stage 1

The caster starts off as the diagram shows and does not move. He/she has a laser-sword-thing in his/her left hand (right side of screen) and a single wing on his/her right (left side of screen). The sword spams danmaku (that bounce off the walls) outward continuously while firing a laser about half the size of Master Spark for 10 seconds. The wing (made with shot-mount-things) continuously shoots while moving in a way that's supposed to emulate flapping. Lastly, the caster releases a ring of danmaku every few seconds, and four stationary mounts fire almost-tracking .5-second streams every 4 seconds.

Same as the previous, except the wing is now downward. The sword-cannon's cycle is the cycle of the entire spell, excluding the flapping: the cannon fires for 10 seconds, recharges (for however long), and fires again until defeat.
Stage 2

The caster is placed right where they were at Stage 1. The wing and sword are now pointing backwards, still emitting shots like in Stage 1, also. However, the caster blasts out 5 fast-moving death rings while creating randomized explosions of slow danmaku on the screen as he/she prepares to charge. The caster establishes his/her path at this point, leaving from the current position (marked Point X) to go to where the target is last locked (Point Y). Note that for the duration of the cycle, the caster can only move on the line deemed XY.
Stage 2B1 (http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/6762/danmakufuangel2b1.jpg) and Stage 2B2-B3 (http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/6721/danmakufuangel2b2b3.jpg)
The time period of 2B1 (http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/6762/danmakufuangel2b1.jpg) is when the user charges to Point Y. The wing has curled around the user so that the mounts point outward, and the sword is positioned near the part where the wing formation and caster meet (It's supposed to look like the sword is being held at the caster's side. Consult the diagram for more info). During the charge, the entire formation (the user, the wing, and the sword) makes 1 counterclockwise rotation. For Stage 2B1, the firing rate of the sword and wing have doubled. The charge is shown half-way through completion in 2B2 (top half) (http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/6721/danmakufuangel2b2b3.jpg). Note that evenly-spaced mounts appear on XY following the caster, firing a ring as well as a .5-second almost-tracking stream then disappearing. Upon reaching 2B3 (bottom half) (http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/6721/danmakufuangel2b2b3.jpg), the caster unfurls the wing and swings the sword outward, each firing even more shots than before. Note that the wing swings out clockwise, and the sword ALMOST makes a full counterclockwise rotation.* The ring-tracking shot-mounts from before still apply.
*This is important when increasing the difficultly, as the sword becomes a long, thin laser that goes around almost the entire screen, except for a small area (+/-15%) behind the user.

The caster retreats to Point X, traveling along XY in the opposite direction. The wing and sword are still firing. 8 shot-mounts moving relative to the caster fire almost-tracking lasers until the caster reaches Point X. The cycle ends and it starts back at Stage 2A, when the caster establishes a new XY using the target's new position on the screen.

But seriously, the thing is that there were 6 people who were supposed to be 'familiars', and I was kind of confused on the meaning of that, but it does seem to make more sense if they are like the IN familiars and belong to the bosses.
But then uh, how would that work exactly? Does each boss have thier own familiar (eg Nwbi uses Donut or something), or do the same familiars show up for every boss? What about spells that use many familiars?
Also technically Ran/Chen don't count as familairs since you can't shoot them but meh
I'm appearing in Slaves' whatever. I guess Extra Stage IE might fit well, too. Put me down for IE.

well i wasn't thinking of making it possible to have a shitton of familiars like IN does, just 1 person that comes in and just shoots bullets in a bosses spellcard.
each boss doesn't have to have one(and i'd like it if only a few had one, honestly), and i think that the familiars should be just appear in 1 boss fight.
and even more technically, you can shoot the familiars in IN also :V
and from now on we should refer to the playable character's partners as "playable partner" instead of familiar, for the sake of all of our sanity.

Obviously "Thoughtless Flurry" is gonna be a spread shot-type. Embers of Love we got many different ideas on this. But most of them relating to them bouncing off the border of the screen back for double damage, but it's initial damage is pretty weak (I don't want this broken entirely).
I might sketch up some ideas on this while at school.

Another go at Embodiment distribution. Even though using three for each stage would be fine, Stage 1, EX and PH have 3 unique embodiments, and Stage 4 has four. The others have 2 uniques, plus some from the stage before it: the ones that show up in the latter stage will be tougher to spawn in the former (as far as randomizing goes). This means 3 Embodiments in each early stage and four in each later stage, with crossovers and increasing difficulty as the game progresses.
Of course we could just go with three per; I don't really care. It's just if anyone wants to appear in more than one stage.
Yes I am continuing with music. I haven't had as many strokes of awesome, but things are sowly getting done.

Since the Touhou games' border frame are somewhat themed after the last boss (Look at that black wing for SA), it should relate back to Rin Satsuki or The Forgotten One somehow. Or since the game has IE, it could be about idiots, I dunno. :V

Yeah, we need to figure out the setting and 'panorama' of the story (Stage 1-6) to get a better understanding of what we want. EX and Phantasm could always take place in God-knows-where.

Hmmm, I don't think that the sheet music would fit on the frames, personally, as it does not apply to the whole game, so maybe we can use that as one of Theorin's Spell Card background. The (first) erhu and the brushes would look nice on the border, though, with the addition of 東方意地奴 for 'Touhou Ijiyatsu.'

In that case ZUN standard uses:
- 4 sprites for idling animation
- 4 sprites for moving animation
- 1-4 attack animation ( depends on who it is ). For example Byakuren and Kogasa have four sprites for attacking.

This is pretty much what I use to make hovering sprites, not that it's very hard to figure out.

Hmm, might be a bit fast for danmakufu, since they have diferent resolutions and stuff. I think I'll just take those values and subtract 0.5 or so from each of them.

just wondering, is it possible to make the hitboxes the same size as the official games are? Danmakufu has an obnoxiously small hitbox that makes me make unnecessary dodges since i'm used to a bigger one.

Yeah, making your player characters entitles giving them a hitbox size.

The problem is that most Danmakufuers will whine because they are used to the minimum size hitbox of the default characters. But yeah, it's a single line to change the hitbox size. It's a little more work to get a hitbox graphic that isn't 90% invisible though.

Entirely coincidental that I created an attack monocle (http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/4964/danmakufuattackmonocle.jpg) while I was gone.
It was supposed to be a stethoscope.
Basic principles: there is a monocle and its chain attached to the caster. When the monocle moves about the screen (which it can), the chain of danmaku adjusts itself. The monocle fires a laser that sweeps slowly around the screen for the entire spell card, and it continues to fire when the monocle moves. The caster shoots out lasers every once in a while (so that it's not impossible to live), and rings of danmaku just to make things more difficult.
And I fail pretty badly at programming. These drawings are currently the best I can do in terms of visuals.

I was hoping this wasn't going to happen, but it did. When Drake initially sent me the synthfont he gave me it as a .dls file and told me to replace gm.dls with it. So I found a folder with gm.dls in it, pulled out a copy of the original before deleting it, then tried to put in the soundfont he'd given me.
Except apparently this folder allows me to delete files, but not put them back in.
I managed to get around this for a while, but now it's come back to bite me in the ass. Synthfont refuses to start up, and even when I reinstall it it tells me 'Synthfont cannot create a required file and cannot continue!'. I've looked up some advice online and received the helpful line of info after trying every solution mentioned:

Also remember, two lines of ?9px of x-distance from the character at 20px/frame!!!!
The shots are kinda small, so ?9px looks a bit too wide, so I shortened it to 8. Also is the speed of Reimu and Marisa's base shot really 20px/frame?

Fantastic. I absolutely love the Eastern feel to it. I guess it will fit Baity seeing as how his Ijiyatsu design is P2 Reimu.

Well, what I had in mind goes like, base shots are sword/knife shaped. Kinda like Sakuya. Ruro's homing shots should be flower-shaped, and spin quickly, kinda like Reimu's homing Amulets. As for Donut's shots, I have no idea yet.
I didn't have much specific in mind, no. White Rose of the Wild West does sound like something Yuka would use (minus the "west"), and it does make me think of her PoFV attacks...
Shots in the form of petals would be awesome, by the way.
Fortuna Star will be concentrated-type, rather.

I have no explanation for this, except that this attacked me in my sleep and would not cease in the worrying of my flesh until it was written.
The Classroom, usually a merry and jubilant place of fun, was filled with the sound of... no sound. It was quiet, serene, calm-- three words that did not belong in the same sentence as ?Cirno's Perfect Math Classroom?.
Yes, it was evening, with UFO Romance of the Night Sky playing in the background for atmosphere. But there ought to have been something stirring, some low hum of activity as CPMC's night owls emerged, or people who arrived in the Classroom from other time zones... not a complete absence of sound.
This was Zengar's first indication that something was wrong.
Thankfully, he acted on it. He was no idiot.

Zengar hadn't been the first to notice something was wrong, to be sure. Rou had him beat there. It was strange... one moment he had been in Akyu's Arcade, organizing a game of Mafia for everyone to enjoy and scream at one another over, and now...
For some odd reason, he could not remember his arrival.
"Pesco," Roukan asked softly, not looking at him but instead focusing on the computer screen before him, "do you remember when I first returned from CPMC...?"
"Is this a test?" Pesco asked with a grin, ruffling Roukan's hair even as his Tewi devastated Rou's Youmu in the PoFV match they were playing. "Of course I remember... it was after we bumped into each other in the fanworks section and someone was talking about CPMC... no, it was in UGW, something from CPMC got moved there..."
"That must be it," Rou agreed, launching a level 4 dragon spell. But even as Tewi blew up and Pesco screamed, he knew in the back in of his mind that something wasn't right. And somehow, even as he enjoyed Pesco's company, he knew something was amiss. But, he thought, enjoying the moment, did it really matter? He'd finally gotten what he'd always yearned for... friends who cared and liked him honestly and completely for who he was. What did it matter if a few details were off?
"Something's not right," he muttered.
Roukan was jarred out of his thoughts by a bite to his earlobe. Pesco had put down his controller and was pulling him closer... it was pleasant...
--yet worrying at the same time.
"Pesco," he whispered breathlessly, "weren't you supposed to be..." He exhaled as Pesco's hand touched his neck. "...nightkilling someone?"
"It can wait for later, Rou," the Obvscum said, drawing closer still, his breath tickling Rou's ear. Rou half-closed his eyes and wanted to surrender to the feelings that were engulfing him--
But something within him pulled him back from the edge.
"No, it can't," Rou said firmly, pulling away. He turned to face Pesco. The look in Pesco's eyes was full of amusement and joy. Totally. There was none of the raw forcefulness, or sardonic persona that he had exhibited when they had first met. Rou knew that if he slapped him in the face right now, he'd take it with an unflinching smile. Something was very, very wrong here.
"I'm... not in the mood," he said sternly, even though he felt his own heart saying, "No, you want to play tonight. Things can wait until tomorrow." He felt an almost palpable energy forcing him to want to be amorous and flirty, submissive and silly...
"Something's wrong!" Rou cried, holding his head and dropping to his knees. As if snapped out of his trance by Rou's yelling, Pesco's expression grew serious, his concern for Rou overriding whatever amorous impulse that had taken hold of him moments before. Kneeling down, he locked gazes with Roukan, and saw the look of confusion in his eyes, mirrored in his own.
"Pesco," Rou began huskily, trying to overcome the new emotions of fear and dread that were creeping into his voice, "I think... I think... you're being used... to manipulate me... to distract me... to keep me from doing what must be done..."
Pesco nodded.
?Get out of here,? he said. He reached out to squeeze Rou's hand. ?I think... I've already given in to it...?
?What?! No, Pesco. I can't leave you behind...? Roukan looked at him, despair in his eyes. ?Look, see, I'm still fine... You'll be fine, it'll go away--?
?No, it won't!? his partner replied, much more loudly than he should have. Akyu's Arcade wasn't exactly a deserted place; many people from all over MoTK ended up in the Arcade some way or another, and some of those people were in very high positions, indeed...
Rou caught the glance of a single lunatic red eye.
Swallowing, he forced himself to turn away. ?Keep it down,? he begged. ?I think I'm... not the only one here who's noticed.?
?Hmm,? Pesco muttered. He began to rummage through his pockets. ?Huh, where did I leave that thing...?
?What is it, Pesco...?? Rou was cut off by Pesco pulling a furry... thing out of his pocket. ?What in the hell is that??

?A rabbit's foot?? Rou held it up to the dim light. He realized what this meant, if Pesco had given it to him. He smiled. ?Thanks, Pesco...?

Pesco took one finger and held it to his head. ?Mindhax.?

Zengar followed the trail. It was a tricky thing to be following; leaving only a light blue glow where it had been, it had spread far and wide...
CPMC, however, seemed to have contained it for now. Cirno's Perfect Math Classroom, this place was called. A vast, wild, lawless region hidden in a small corner of MoTK at large. It was called CPMC because the tall mountains to the far north literally read ?CIRNO'S PERFECT MATH CLASSROOM? in thousand-feet-tall letters.
Despite its name, this was no math classroom. It was inhabited by waves of marauders and travelers that had made CPMC their home. Zengar was at the top of Mount I want a taco.. at the moment, and looked out over the land. Truly, it was a wild place...
But from up here, he could see everything and everyone in the faint light of the blue grass moon. He saw quite a few things that he probably shouldn't have, and many other things he had no business knowing, but there...!
The crawling, almost sentient blue mist seeping through a crack in the wall--!

It reached the most unlikely of places. The Touhou Livestream Channel was not part of MoTK in any way, except in that a few select travelers from MoTK had ended up there from time to time. Right now, though, it was late, and so the channel was largely deserted...
Groaning. Grunting. A moan, and-- ?OH GOD WHAT THE HELL! STOP THAT!?
With that, Gpop emerged from the moderation center, a wrench in his hand. He crawled out and looked at the face of the channel, to survey his efforts.
?Hmm... might need a bit of tweaking, but it'll do for now.?
He got to his feet and brushed his matted hair away from his sweaty forehead, sighing. ?Ah... maybe it's good as it is.? He nodded. ?Koishi-chan ought to like this.?
As a brand-new moderator, it was his first time working with the header. He had changed the header from a Kogasa theme to a picture of Koishi and Satori, called ?Averse Thoughts of the Underground.?
He smiled at his own handiwork, pleased. ?Hope Chibity and Anthony like it. Even if it doesn't have Eirin or Mima.?
Well, that was it for tonight, wasn't it? He looked back at the gateway to MoTK that he had come in from earlier. Did he really want to check CPMC before he went to bed, or did he want to go straight to the special Koishi folder he had secreted away on his flash drive--
?That's a question?? He smirked, reaching into his pocket for the flash drive. ?Well, as Theorin would put it... I'll be in my bunk.?
He nodded to himself again and reached for the lights--
?GAH?!?
He felt his knees suddenly refuse to stay locked. His knees bent; he fell forward. Twisting instinctively, he slammed his shoulder into the floor, and winced. ?Wh-- what the hell is this...?!?
Just then, he noticed a light around his face. He had turned off the lights a split second before he had fallen, so it was pitch-black... what was this, then? It had such a cool blue glow..
And then it came closer to him--
Gpop barely had time to gasp in shock as the blue mist covered him like a wave of water would smother a sand castle.

Zengar's heart was pounding as he reached the bottom of Mount I want a taco... Had he just seen the unthinkable?! He had. He had seen the blue mist breaching the borders of CPMC... had the barriers surrounding the Classroom been so weakened that the mysterious mist could escape?!
He had to stop it.
He reached the bottom of the mountain. The vehicle that had gotten him there was still intact, although Mode and her band of roving trobadours had evidently had their fun with it. With slight disgust, Zengar tore off the silly string on his motorcycle, then started the machine, revved the engine, and drove off as fast as he could to the border, Zankantou strapped to his back.
He had to stop it before it hurt anyone--

Meanwhile, elsewhere. There was hot and heavy maid roleplay going on. And at the same time, others were taking a break.

In front of her, the roleplayer known as Serpentarius was sitting, wearing a dark black cloak, black pants and a red dress shirt. His eyes betrayed his sinister bemusement as he observed the reaction of his conversation partner. He scrutinized every line of her face, her posture, her rhythm and pattern of breathing, Why, he was even fairly certain he had a handle on her blood pressure, too-- after all, it was an important detail. And to him, details were everything.
He could almost see the outburst bubbling inside her, clawing and tearing at her mind, itching for release in the form of a clenched fist, or a verbal splutter-- a mumbling, a shout, or even a delicious scream of rage.
For her part, it hurt her a little to hear him say those words. But his cutting words had always been of service to her-- either when they had cut away the veneer of a person of interest, allowing her to see the truth of them, or whether they had cut her, forced her to dig deep inside and confront herself.
Words hurt, but they did not kill those of strong will. Words like Serp's only killed those who let them. And she would not let these words kill her.
She glanced away and eyed the clock.
?It's my bedtime. I'd rather not have those sorts of visions dancing about in my dreams, thank you very much.?
?You go to sleep rather early, don't you?? He tilted his head to the side, a hungry smirk on his face. ?Why don't you stay up late with me??
?Nah.? She returned the smile and got to her feet, throwing on her Yumemi-inspired cape. ?I'd much rather rest. Good night, Serp.?
?Good night.? He waited until she was almost out the door to interrupt her. ?Actually, wait.?

She happened, by chance, to see a faint blue glow at the edge of her vision. It wouldn't have mattered to her if she had seen if a few months ago. She would have dismissed it as a result of her farsightedness, and groaned about having to wear glasses.
In fact, she had technically never seen it. She had been asleep when it had smothered her those months ago--
Feeling a cold panic in the bottom of her stomach, she turned and ran.
Is it after me? Or 'nako? Or even Purvis...? She thought as she ran, getting out of sight, running to the one place of refuge she dared to lay her head down at night in.
And then a second, scarier thought occurred to her--

Whipping Zankantou off his back, he yelled and ran straight at the breach in the wall where the blue mist was leaking. ?I AM HERE TO CLEAVE EVIL!? he yelled as his sword came down.
Completely unsurprisingly, it acted just like mist did; it parted and kept going. With a cry of anger, he heaved his sword back up and swung it wildly, trying to cut it apart.
The mist conferred within itself, wondering if this boy wasn't enough of a fool already without its influence. Then it seemed to decide that he would be a good conductor, and within seconds it engulfed him, swathing him in blue mist.
... maybe he should have thought this through a little better.

Throwing on a long blue cloak, she left her pagoda in the trees of CPMC's eastern forest, trying to ignore the drunken revelers who were dancing naked around a fireplace to his right somewhere.
Masculine pronoun again. She sighed and looked up at the night sky.
No one, she reflected, would ever know she had walked this path. She was but a momentary disturbance in the fabric of the ever-changing tapestry that was CMPC.
She paused, thinking. If she stopped here, now, and turned back... she could avoid the lunacy, the craziness.

Everything is possible with moving/animation familiars. :V You can also make them wave slowly in mini circles instead of full circles around the player. Don't worry about that.

I don't think it would be too stressful to imitate ZUN backgrounds, if we just go for that. Most of the time they aren't even fully 3D, they just have a bunch of perspective'd graphics and more perspective'd graphics laid over them with various spacings and whatnot. There usually aren't more than 3 different images (except for stage 6), either. It wouldn't really need to be of the quality Stuffman or Hele are trying to currently produce, so to leave that programming to them should be fine, I think.

Oh man, I'm definitely playing GPop A. What if instead of GPopB's bomb being a direct copy of the Nitori Bomb, your hitbox just disappears for a while? It could be longer than a normal bomb to compensate for the lack of damage. That'd be kind of in flavor with the whole 'subconscious i'm not there' thing.

Slaves: Maybe we can solve that problem by making Gpop's bullets more transparent, and reducing the number of bouncing bullets but increasing the power of each one?

The bouncing shot looks like it would be kind of cool, but if it's gonna be hard to implement, maybe it could be a more straight-forward MariC-type shot to go with the bomb (except with long Peenmaku instead of small missiles).
Cut by Nobu: That could be a cool bomb too, but the Nitori bomb gives back 50% of the power it takes if no hits are taken. Depending on what sort of system we use for bombs here, it'd be hard to do that with a vanishing hitbox.

Yeah, I didn't even think of SA Reimu A until now. Either make it close to the same, or it could be tweaked to give some sort of Koishi/Gpop spin on it.

Thoughtless Flurry... I think could be more thoughtless. You could have your options spiral around you Genetics-style (well, as ovals). I do have an idea.
Four options glued together, with one constantly changing orbital. The options rotate themselves. They fire in the direction they're facing, and then the shots curve so that they all fire forwards in one way or another. I'll make a picture.
GpopA bomb idea sounds great, but maybe name it differently? You're not underground and 'Nako should play a part.
As for Embers of Love (once again, should rename), going with previous ideas, you could have Youmu/Aya-style options where it fires based on where you went last. Although, all four options could be glued together in a line like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVGQHBOQ5Nw). Those options fire peenmaku. That'd be awesome. High power for gimmick-reward.
I see Freud Was Right as more of ReimuA bomb, yeah. Although ReimuA's bomb was a bit too hax, so maybe a big imaginary circle appears around where you bombed, and slowly shrinks. You're invincible inside the circle, and when it gets to a certain size the screen clears.

This looks kind of messy because I'm not sure exactly how the direction of the curve would be chosen. Some random math should clear it up, but right now I'm not totally sure. The oval is visible and rotates as well, so the options don't always stay on the same track.

I was thinking the same thing. maybe only have it consume half a bomb, and also auto collect? I was thinking more like a preempt 'OH SHI-' bomb where you can just phase through things, kind of like gapping through waves of bullets.

Yeah, I'm thinking start off with a single tune that repeats in different iterations and another melody jumps in after a while. The music changes a bit when you fight Mode and Nobu, then after the above idea starts. The music that joins in after that is a more pumped-up version of the first tune.

While the magicalness of it is important, I can't really visualize the resurrection of Rin Satsuki going on atop the sky, which is the consequence of having Stage 2 lead to some sort of 'heaven' without somehow backtracking into the ground.

I can see where you're coming from. Although the waterfall might not be fitting for the boss, the autumn/red/orange scenery really fits the theme for this one, IMO. For the stage setting, I was imagining more of a PCB Stage 5 on the aforementioned scenery.

Actually, an alternative would be instead of making it a gigantic, genuine temple, make it so that it is nothing of the sort in the inside. Where I'm going is that Moerin could use her powers to create some sort of distortion of the space inside the temple, so that the scenery can be changed into whatever fits the appropriate stages. If possible, Stage 4's background should constantly change as you go through the stage, ending with whatever setting fits for the pirate. For Stage 5, either continue the shifting sceneries, or pull off long corridors a la IN Stage 6 or SA Stage 4 in A-F's style, or a combination of both, if you want. Stage 6 is still fuzzy right now, but I'm imagining the final boss fight to be inside a gigantic room in light blue colors or some sort.
No clue for EX and PH/BR/MS/USS/whatever yet.

i was thinking something like PCB's extra and Phantasm. Extra stage is just stairs, Phantasm is different colored stairs during the stage(to represent POWERFUL SPIRITUAL MAGIC or something) and the Board Room for the boss.

Nwbi has good ideas for the temple thing. I was kind of going for that too, as "temple", literally, is a bit bland and not-Touhou and not-CPMC.
I can attempt to texture things, maybe possibly idk. I can't say how nice things would turn out (as I've never done things of the sort before), and doing even part of the soundtrack and other various things is quite a bit. Although, I am good with Photoshop, I am good at dealing with how pictures turn into a scene and I do know how possible it can be to map certain images in a 3D plane and can make graphics accordingly. But I still don't know.

I thought I said my "power" was manipulation of language. Of course, no reason why I couldn't pull double duty. Keeping business separate from pleasure and all that. Maybe you could have certain clothing accessories unlockable for the playable characters, as well as a soundtrack customizing feature where you would have to buy the song/stage before you could use the theme elsewhere? Sounds really superfluous though.

The bird pattern is a brush I found. One layer is brown, and then the pattern was erased, so underneath you could see the mandolin. The other flowers are just a brush with inner shadow.

Yeah, Age and Appearance are pretty much nixed in our situation.
Most Touhous aren't usually given an exact age (only about a handful we know have a known age and most of those are just estimations at best). Appearance can *probably* stay being Touhou Wiki still gives out a description of what the Touhou in question looks like even though there's a picture of them.
But that's up to those who do the bios, I'm just spouting opinion onions.

I actually omitted 'Description' from the template, because that's the one that deals with in-game looks. The 'Appearances' section is for listing what games the characters appear in, which would be pointless in this situation.
We have concept art, so it doesn't really matter if we do the descriptions now or later. And we can probably have the descriptions done by the same person too, to keep things consistent.

I never read CAD consistently, or any other webcomic for that matter really, but what i've seen of CAD doesn't seem bad.

I think CAD just suffers something similar to Seinfeld is unfunny. Some of the comics I read aren't as terrible as people say.

CAD is pretty terrible, and Tim can't tell a story to save his life. Most of the time, his jokes are poorly executed, and when they aren't, they usually aren't very funny. Not to say he's completely hopeless, but even a broken clock is right twice a day.
The animated series is an abonimation, and he actually expected people to pay money for that drivel. He actually explicitly stated that he would oversee any animated form of CAD to make sure it's done right, so that entire thing is his fault.
Finally, he is so unwilling to accept criticism (maybe less so now than he used to, but still) that not only does he ban people who question certain aspects of his comic from the forums (what ever happened to Scott, didn't Ethan marry a console once, loss.jpg), he has gone out of his way to remove all forms of negative criticism from places like Wikipedia and has shown his maturity further by once replacing the entire Wikipedia article for the webcomic PvP with "PvP sucks".
I won't even get into Jackie and Brittany.

Manipulation of Perception would probably be like making illusions. At a powerful level, you could consider perception as 'the way people see reality', so it could also function as a form of mind control too. I mean, perception is pretty vague and wide-ranging.
They all don't have to be "Manipulation of ____" abilities. For example, Alice's abilities are Magic and Doll Manipulation, and Eirin's are just making medicine and being a genius.
You should have Manipulation of Falcon Kick, IMO. :V

The biggest problem is it's hard to draw the line before 'lol serious' and 'lol joke'. :/ And also, it gets harder the more we define the world and the farther we get in development. (In some ways I can see why ZUN leaves a lot for fan interpretation, makes things easier.)
For one example.. exactly where does CPMC as we know it end and the CPMC of Ijiyatsu begin? Same with the characters, where do 'We' end and our 'Ijiyatsu selves' begin? How 'serious' do we take what we throw into the game, and are we trying to make something non-CPMC members can enjoy without having to be 'one of us'? What do we do about 'nako and Alice Margatroid,which have their own identities but who have the names of established characters?
These are some questions we have to deal with as this project goes on and becomes more complex.

Mafia can be the 'danmaku combat' of the CPMC world, except some people weren't a fan or thought it was too complicated/frustrating, so the spellcard system was borrowed from 'some other fantasy world' to see if it'd work better in resolving conflict. :V
It could blend fantasy and still be open to internet related stuff, by being essentially the internet equivalent of Gensokyo. Just like how a lot of Youkai are personified concepts, CPMC and the denizens are personified Internet existences. And TSO and the Moderators are essentially like the Yukaris of Ijiyatsu, seperating CPMC from reality.

Honestly, the simpler the better, so a lack of concrete details like Slaves is good too. The more detail you go into with bios and abilities, the more you'll have to think of hard things. Don't explain more than you have to.
Look at Koishi and her vague "Manipulation of Subconsciousness" ability. What does that mean? She can make herself not noticed. How exactly does that work, what are the limits, etc? Let's save that for fan speculation.

Yeah, but they don't all have to be fully defined, is just what i'm trying to point out. It's not just that they're blatantly stated, but there's a lot of wiggle room and you don't have to have the full scope of abilities.
Just noticed, but everyone's abilities on the Plot writeup are "Manipulation of (some concept) ". We don't have to change any one person's ability per se, but we might want to leave things open to having non "Manipulation of ___" type abilities.
Also, my tentative bio. I'd like to know what people think, and I'll take any and all suggestions/discussions. After all, our Ijiyatsu selves are essentially our existences and impressions on this board, and who knows this better than all of you? I tried to keep it sorta quirky and vague in ZUN style. :V

Occupation: Fledgling Deity
Bio: Also she has not been in CPMC for very long, she quickly won favor and acceptance, and attained Deity status due to her power to manipulate affection. She has been taken under Theorist's wing as a little sister. Theorist plans to use Nobu's power to spread affection for Rin Satsuki across the world and give her the chance at adoration she never had.
Nobu's own motivations are not fully known. She usually is seen around others as friendly and affectionate, but sometimes can be found alone acting aloof and lost in thought. Since becoming a deity, another more serious and condescending side to her personality has emerged from time to time.
Nobu is always seen with a snake that floats around her(currently unnamed). Even though they are always together, the snake is not really a pet, nor is it exactly a friend either. When asked about the snake, Nobu will either just shrug, or say "Is that so~?", then change the subject.
The snake acts as a guardian and will protect her from obvious harm, though whether it's actually guarding her or just guarding itself is another question entirely. Sometimes it may appear that they coordinate attacks, but this is (mostly) just a coincidence.
The flower on her head is another mystery as well, of which Nobu also acts oblivious about. Maybe the snake is protecting the flower?

Adorned with a crown on her head, it seems that one may consider her a more benign version of the Mother Harlot, perhaps, this seems to be evident in the rational behavior of Trance within CPMC, either seeming resolved in giving concrete advice or hinting towards a want. In due time, she was offered the Power of becoming a Maiden, to this, Trance humbly rejected the offer. However, being demure was perhaps the fatal mistake of Trance, for she had been subtly infused with some Idiot energy spiked in a drink of water she had from an unknown figure from the Idiocy. As a result, Trance had then lost her inhibitions, became slightly more coquettish, and became more chaotic as a result. Being called out on by Gpop's constant itterations of Trance's greatest fear - tentacles, Trance realized what she had become and decided to get revenge on the Idiocy, and reluctantly took up arms alongside Gpop in order to regain her composure.
Trance is usually not aware of when she attracts the attention of the people, it's usually only in specific, requested situations where she will make use of her inherent ability. As can be guessed, such a power is both a blessing and a curse. Trance's disposition, royal as it may seem, serves only to add to the appeal. It's said that when you're struck by the sparkles that emit from Trance's hands, you're dazzled and struck with lust for a period of anywhere between an hour to an entire year. There are also rumours that Trance is descended from the line of Ryuujin, but Trance has thus far dismissed such outrageous claims.
That crown though... What a lovely diadem. Perhaps Trance is lying when she says she has no relation to Ryuujin, or Kiyohime, or even an unholy union between a Nure-onna and something... else.

We can always clarify and change the description of the abilities to make them more distinct and different later.
So here were a couple of story ideas I had, sorta inspired by the Rurofic and thinking how to define the CPMC world.
1. The embodiments as denizens of CPMC that were consumed by the Idiot energy/miasma. The idiot energy can randomly reappear when enough energy gathers, and take form of one of the people it ate, but it is essentially a mindless puppet controlled by the collective Idiocy.
2. The non-embodiment bosses/midbosses as those that weren't consumed, but are still held under its sway.
3. Have the CPMC world being distinct from Gensokyo, but we can still be similar in some ways.
We can have youkai, fairies, humans, but our own system how the world works. (I.E. Idiot Pantheon, Moderators, etc)
4. Not flat out said, but vaguely hinted that CPMC exists alongside Gensokyo and the existence is acknowledged.
I.E: "Well, we typically use Mafia to solve our disputes, but some people didn't like it so we're trying out this 'Danmaku spellcard system' we got from some other place."

I was thinking about what a concept for my Last Word might be, and I had an interesting idea, but since I know next to nothing about Danmakufu I don't know if it'd work. So, my question: is it possible to force the player to be unfocused? :V If yes, I'd also probably be basing my power around something related to that.

well i think the best you could do is to do something similar to Kaguya/Eirin's last spells in IN. meaning, they can shoot, but it doesn't hit anything and all it does is make dodging harder.

I don't know... I've been doing quite a lot of unfocused runs recently and they're a lot more fun than you might think. A lot of strange challenges include no focus, and at the end of the day, isn't that what a Last Word really is? Still, it's not a big deal, I'm sure I'll be able to think something else up if it's a no-go. :V

You could make it like Suika's CtC last word, where she creates massive walls of crap if you're focused/unfocused during the wrong phase. Discourage focusing, but don't disable it unless you have a decent explanation for it besides "it would make it harder lol".

Before someone else jumps down your throat or says it in a less polite way for requesting this, i'm going to go out on a limb and say no. There are already more embodiments than anyone ever expected, and the list might even have to be slimmed down for all we know.
Also, not trying to play the outsider card or anything, but this game is ultimately a game with characters based on this community, so if you're not well known around here, then.. :/

I had a similar idea, actually~ I'd even started planning out some attacks, and a very basic plot. The only reason I never implemented it was because programming is, um, not my forte. Or spriting, for that matter.

I'd definitely be willing to do some of the coding, seeing how many other Embodiments will need to be made as well. I specialize more on the spellcard/danmaku design spectrum of things rather than graphical, which I guess works well with the whole idea of random minibosses. I'm also pretty okay at designing stage BGs and spell BGs if that ever comes up.

Heck, the plot of Ijiyatsu itself revolves around Rin Satsuki, so this world should be able to recognize Gensokyo at some point as an 'another universe,' at the least.
Or simply have CPMC exists inside Gensokyo as a parallel dimension or some sort.
Also, PC's and partners would need boss sprites due to them having Last Words.

Generally you don't blur sprites unless you're mixing colors and getting rid of sharpen marks. When I say I use blur it's because I need to combine colors or make an effect look smoother.
Aside from that and needing more detail it looks fine.

Rikter does bring up an interesting point, as enemies aren't going to be popping up everywhere there won't really be any embodiments to use. Or at least, organizing the stage will be a wreck. Bear with me, I'm just typing as I brainstorm. In no way am I trying to just fully organize the stage immediately.

Or something...? The enemies before each Death Fairy could drop enough for an Embodiment and each Death Fairy could drop enough as well. This would mean hectic Embodiment chaining while shit is flying at you everywhere, and 6 pieces dropped, enough for a life and a bomb*. If the midbosses also give life+bomb piece, life+bomb piece and two life pieces respectively this makes two extra lives it makes 6/7 which seems like a fine number... derp
Somebody else have any ideas?
*(Not sure if I mentioned this; I calculated how Embodiments should be spread out throughout stages and I figured life=4 and bomb=2 would be a balanced idea, I'll post what I figured when I find my notes again)

Uh but ZUN's boss sprites are just shrunken version of his drawings (except in PoFV/StB). So it might be a bit strange(and unTouhou like?) if the cutins looked different from the boss sprites :/

What Suikama said, maybe I can make the playable characters. Since boss characters you can simply tilt or rotate body parts for animation. If you want, give me the cutins for some of them and I'll make the rest of the sprites.

You wouldn't have to draw all the frames though, right? You might just be able to draw the cut-in plus a casting animation for who needs it, and just make the frames of animation by modifying the cutin after you've shrunk it down into sprite form. It looks like that's what ZUN does at least.

Yeah that would be helpful on the quality, since it's the first time I'm using tools that are not in Paint. If the latest version of Zengar isn't good enough I can give you the unmodified version. By the way can you put the Zengar sprites in a Touhou game to see if the animation matches up?

Nice work, although the total number of lives you can get seems lower than the other games (than UFO/SA anyways, but the thing about UFO is even the total number of lives and bombs is rediculous, most of the time you let lives and bombs go to waste if you dont chain correctly (or at least I do ;_;))

Bombing during it already loses you a bomb, so if you were trying to get bombs you would technically losehalf a bomb by the end instead of gaining and dying is well, dying, so no penalties should really be given there. I guess taking away 50 and 25 IE from the 100 IE storage for dying and bombing respectively, would work. Bombing and dying also lowers your base point value regardless, too.

Hmm. I have a mental image of my character doing a rolly-polly somersault-thing in the pose in my Slave-pic as she attacks. And also possibly a spreading-arms thing like Koishi.
I'm also imagining either a red-and-white color scheme or a red-and-blue one.

Is Rin Satsuki actually going to get any air time in the game? What if after beating Theorist, there's a final survival card that's something like Yuyuko's last Ressurection Butterfly spellcard? It could be in shadow so you wouldn't even have to draw a cut-in if you don't want. Just a thought.

Honestly [Forgotten One] Rin Satsuki isn't a bad name. I figured this idea must have been floating around, but the current writeup on the info page mentions unlocking Phantasm by doing 50 spellcards + Tilde Moe~, so I thought that might have been planned to be the last card.

Rin appearance like Eirin + Kaguya in IN final word would be also a possible idea. Like Theorist summons Rin and goes invincible mode. The player then either have to survive Rin's attacks or Rin has tons of life like Kanako VoWG, Byakuren's last card etc.

I think for her hair something pastel would be more suited to Gpop in Koishi-color mode. Just make it something different from pastel green maybe?
I like the nega-Koishi colors too, but part of Gpop's gimmick is that she's basically Koishi.

Is Rin Satsuki actually going to get any air time in the game? What if after beating Theorist, there's a final survival card that's something like Yuyuko's last Ressurection Butterfly spellcard? It could be in shadow so you wouldn't even have to draw a cut-in if you don't want. Just a thought.

Um... Since we're vaguely on the subject of Rin and my last spell, I may as well drop my ideas for what it should be like... Be warned that I suck at explaning these kind of things, so if it doesn't make sense, that's why.
Anyway... The spell starts with me and Rin in the center of the screen, but we very quickly move away from each other, mirroring each others movements whilst firing a massive barrage of lasers. At about the halfway mark, the two of us begin firing sparks in addition to the lasers. As the clock counts down towards the end of the spell, we move up to the top-center of the screen, float beside each other and fire out a gigantic spark that takes up most of the screen (all the while still firing out lasers). If at all possible, I think it would be pretty neat if the spark could stay on screen when the timer reaches zero and the screen slowly whites out.
Um... Yeah... So, uh, what do you think~?
I also had an idea for an earlier spellcard called Flower Sign "Abandoned Azalea of May", but the only real idea I had for that other than the name was that it would involve Ruro's "White Rose" danmaku, albeit recoloured black (somewhat fitting, seeing how a lot of people seem to forget that black roses don't actually exist and all)...

The length isn't the problem, it's the shape. ZUN did a better job regarding the dress shape, shoulder width, foot positioning, and hair shape (Zengar's hair is too tapered).

Also last Forgotten One "Rin Satsuki" will have Idiot energy spewing out like cherry, except falling. Actually, falling upwards from the bottom of the screen and collecting towards Rin as she starts glowing brighter and brighter. Even though collecting it won't do anything, it would still be FUCKING AWESOME.

OH! What if Rin was made up as an embodiment with a spellcard? Like the idiot energy starts coming in from all sides of the screen as Rin absorbs it, and then when you beat it Rin explodes in 'defeat of ZUN final boss' fashion with all the collected idiot energy going to the player?

I think Alphes also helped out with the character portraits in PoFV as well.

Alphes helped with coloring and shading. It should be easy enough to tell when you compare ZUN to Alphes to PoFV.
This also applies to PoFV and StB sprites.

I'm looking at UFO's enemy sprites and I'm a bit confused. The first 5 frames are for flying forward, then there are 7 sideways frames. Are the first 2 part of the flying sideways animation or is that like a small turning animation?

They're turning. There are five sprites for every movement, but if you go from center/left to right, those two frames play first.

From what I can tell from the UFO sprites is that after the last frame it goes back to the first instead of going back and forth. The wings in the last frame is a bit more open than the previous one because then it would go from closed wings to completely open. I shifted the eyes a bit more than before

Matsuri's giant weasel/ermine/mongoose/mammal is pretty cute. And now I'm not the only glasses character! Moerin will be happy too~
Onthenet's crazy long hair even looks a little frazzled, adding to the image of a hardworking programmer... And the rune-keyboard is a nice accessory for her too.
