Alright, this is gonna be my first adventure game thingy, so if you have some advice or if I'm messing up the game jargon, please tell me.
>You are a resident of Gensokyo living in a tent inside the Forest of Magic. You are a vendor, selling whatever trinkets you have to the residents of Gensokyo to make a living.
>Your operations are very limited, you do not have enough reputation to get people to come to you, so you must go to them. At the moment, you can only carry objects that can fit in your pockets and hands. And you can only store what can fit inside your tent.
>The tent is not very large, only big enough for you and a boxful of stuff.
>Although your danmaku skills are lacking, you may be able to hold your own against a first or second stage boss, or at the very least, pesky fairys who like to swipe your stuff.
>After a certain number of actions, the day will end and you will have to go back to your current lodgings and sleep.
>Your will gain more inventory by either random events or by going and looking for stuff in your surroundings which will take up a good portion of your day.
>Currency of the land is gold pieces.
>At the end of each day, 5 gold pieces will be spent for food.
>Your goal is to find a new base of operations and become a well-known shopkeeper like your competitor, Rinnosuke.
>Today is a clear day and excellent for travelling to sell your wares. Right now, you do not have a very good lay of the land, so you do not have enough courage to go exploring right now.
Accessable areas are:
Alice's house- Alice lives here
Forest clearing- Good for harvesting various plants, random objects occasionally show up
This is my first game, so do the mechanics seem like they'll work? Any flaws?
-
I'd say it actually works, even if the mechanics are like Roll to Dodge. Anyways...
>Go to Alice's house to see if she has any shopkeeper tips if she'll tell you, or see if she can use what you have as magic reagents.
-

>Go to Alice's house to see if she has any shopkeeper tips if she'll tell you, or see if she can use what you have as magic reagents.
>You go to her house and upon arriving, you forgot to check your inventory. So you head back to your tent and see what you have.
10 gold coins
20 nails
5 lengths of string
7 pieces of colorful cloth
You load everything in your pockets and head back. By the time you get there, its around 11-ish.
You knock on the door and Alice answers it glad to see you. She invites you in and you sit down. you two have a good buyer-seller relationship because your trinkets are useful for making dolls. After idle conversation, you ask if she has any advice. She doesn't really due to living in the Magic forest away from most people. Even though your stuff is usually handy for doll making, she says she needs an enchanted ribbon for a special doll she's working on. She offers 5 gold if you can get one for her.
Accept or decline?
-
OK, either I'm the fastest to play this or I'm the ONLY one to play this.
>Accept, I'll need the money...
-
OK, either I'm the fastest to play this or I'm the ONLY one to play this.
>Accept, I'll need the money...
You accept and head out to look for a ribbon.
You go out into the forest and look around for a ribbon. You see trees and the occasional fairy.
Fight a fairy to see what they have or do critical thinking to find where an enchanted ribbon is?
-
I HAVE FOUND A FLAW! This seems to be more like a 1-player game rather than other people can play it.
>Attack the fairies
-
I HAVE FOUND A FLAW! This seems to be more like a 1-player game rather than other people can play it.
>Attack the fairies
How do you suggest I fix it?
Moving on...
You see a lone fairy picking some flowers and approach from behind.
Time to roll, you get a 2
As you approach, the flowers rustle under your feet and the fairy turns around and sees you. She takes off into the sky before before you see what she had. Oh well, could've been worse.
-
Hm... Fixing it... Ah, I know! How about multiple shopkeepers? And somehow this is turning out to be Roll to Dodge! now. Continuing...
>Resort to thinking, no matter how much it hurts.
-

>Resort to thinking, no matter how much it hurts.
Multiple? Each person has their own?
Back to business...
You sit down and stare into clouds until you come up with an idea.
Around 2-ish, you remember a certain enchanted ribbon belonging to a certain youkai of darkness. You also know that once you take it, she'll get extremely strong. You think more and come up with the idea for do it yourself ribbon enchanting.
Which option do you want to think more about?
-
Yeah, like that, and people can help others.
And it's gone from Gensokyo's new shopkeeper into Roll to Dodge... WAIT A MINUTE!!! Maybe this game can be like that, but separated into teams instead! And now that seems too familiar...
>I'll think of where she got it from, and then go to said place if I figure it out.
-

>I'll think of where she got it from, and then go to said place if I figure it out.
Shopkeeper teams... I like the idea. How do I go about it I wonder?
You think more about where she got it, but can't figure out who she would get it from.
-
Hm... Let's wait for one day in game time to pass and then start separating into teams.
>Wait, what's my power?
-
Hm... Let's wait for one day in game time to pass and then start separating into teams.
>Wait, what's my power?
Basic danmaku skills, you would need to convince someone to team up with you to take on a stage 2 or 3 boss.
-
Damn, uhh... Uhhhh.... Oh!
>Attempt to enchant a ribbon. I do have one with me, right? Oh, wait. Damn, uhh... Oh!
>Find a regular ribbon, THEN enchant it
-
Damn, uhh... Uhhhh.... Oh!
>Attempt to enchant a ribbon. I do have one with me, right? Oh, wait. Damn, uhh... Oh!
>Find a regular ribbon, THEN enchant it
You try to think of a way to get free ribbon and get an idea. Heading back to Alice's, you go through her trash and find a broken doll. Does it look exploded to you? On its head, you take off the ribbon and put it in your pocket.
+1 ribbon
But you don't have magic skills to enchant it, so you think of the strange witch that lives in the forest. Perhaps she'll do some enchanting for you.
-
Oh, Marisa?
>Go to Marisa's house and beg her to enchant it
-
> Keep an eye out for any items along the way.
-
(I sense recettear...just without the sharkloan fairy, and LOL KOURIN COMPETITION)
> Recruit a Fairy and call it Tear. :3
-
Oh, Marisa?
>Go to Marisa's house and beg her to enchant it
You decide to head over to her house and see if she's generous enough to enchant it for you.
New area discovered!
Marisa's house- Marisa lives here

On the way, you notice a strange mushroom sticking out of the ground. You pick it.
+1 questionable mushroom
(I sense recettear...just without the sharkloan fairy, and LOL KOURIN COMPETITION)
> Recruit a Fairy and call it Tear. :3
Also on the way, you see a fairy and decide an employee would be a good idea. You talk to her, but she'd never heard of you before so she declines. Apparently, you need more reputation before recruiting people.
You arrive at Marisa's house and knock on the door. She anwsers and you ask her to enchant it. She replies, "What's in it for me, ze?"
-
>"Perhaps this?"
>Offer the questionable mushroom.
-
>"Perhaps this?"
>Offer the questionable mushroom.
You take out the mushroom and offer it in exchange for the enchanting. She eyes it greedily and accepts the terms. You give her the ribbon and she quickly mutters an incantation on it. You then give her the mushroom.
- 1 ribbon
+1 enchanted ribbon
-1 mushroom
She says to come back tomorrow and she'll have something for you. She hurries back inside with her new mushroom.

> Head back to Alice's.
> Keep our eyes peeled for more items.
You head over to Alice's, but no items seem to show up. You knock on the door and wait with the newly enchanted ribbon in your hands. She answers and is pleased to see you and the ribbon.
"Thank you so much, this would've taken up a lot of my day to go looking for one of these."
Do you want to haggle the price or accept the agreed upon terms?
-
> Lets start off small. Accept the terms.
-
> Lets start off small. Accept the terms.
She pays you the agreed on 5 gold pieces.
"Thanks for doing this again, I appreciate it."
You leave the house and notice it's getting dark.
-

> Look for more items on the way.
You go back to your humble tent noticing a stream on the way.
New area discovered!
Forest stream- unexplored
You arrive at the tent and sleep for the night.
-
> Check the time when we wake up. If it's early, explore forest stream. If it's more around 10ish, go visist Marisa.
..Any objections?
-
> Consider arson at Kourindou.
-
> Check the time when we wake up. If it's early, explore forest stream. If it's more around 10ish, go visist Marisa.
..Any objections?
-5 gold for daily cost of food
You wake up at around 9 and decide to take a quick peek at the stream on the way to Marisa's.
At the stream, you see a stream with various plant varieties growing around. A few fairies pass by once in a while. You also see a small berry bush.
> Consider arson at Kourindou.
You think about it, but then remember he has a few high-powered loli friends. Don't want to upset them.
-
> Gather a few plants
> Pick a few berries
> Head over to Marisa
-
> Gather a few plants
> Pick a few berries
> Head over to Marisa
You pick a few generic looking flowers.
+3 flowers
You go to the berry bush and take some berries.
+1 handful of berries (spoils in 2 days)
At around 10, you arrive at Marisa's house and knock on the door. She answers looking like she stayed up all night. You see an overflow of mushrooms in her house.
"Umm, heh, you know that mushroom you gave me? It's really tasty, so I tried a multiplying spell on it and now my place is overflowing with them. You sell stuff right? I can supply you with them and you can sell them to people, ze. 1 gold piece for 1 mushroom."
You found a new supplier!
Marisa- mushrooms, 1 for 1 gold piece
"They won't spoil in my house, but once you take them, they go bad in 2 days."
"Also, I have a lot of junk lying around that I need to get rid of to make space for all the mushrooms, so if you're ever looking for random stuff, we may be able to work something out."
You found a new store!
Marisa's house- random stuff, stock changes daily
Buy some mushrooms?

> Buy two mushrooms
And is the random item thing in Marisa's house the same as the random item thing everywhere else?
You purchase 2 mushrooms, and as a first time bonus, she throws one in for free.
-2 gold pieces
+3 mushrooms
Do you mean you wanna check to see what she has? The items in her house are random and change each day. No other store will have exactly what she has every day.
You look around and see a metal frying pan and an axe.
"If you want something, we could work something out, ze."
-
>Ask her if the frying pan or the axe are anything more then ordinary. If so, what do they do?
-
> If they aren't consider taking the frying pan.
-
>Ask her if the frying pan or the axe are anything more then ordinary. If so, what do they do?
"Nah, they're just stuff I found"
> If they aren't consider taking the frying pan.
You ask about the frying pan.
"Sure, you can have it if you do a favor for me. I need to return this teapot to Reimu. Wutcha say, ze?"
-
> Accept. Who knows what will happend and what we will find.
-
> Accept. Who knows what will happend and what we will find.
You accept the job and proceed to deliver the teapot.
+1 teapot
You get a get directions to the Hakurei Shrine and start to head over there.
New area discovered!
Hakurei Shrine- Reimu lives here
You head off through the forest and come across a lone fairy.
-
> Inspect the fairy. Are her wings made of ice? Does she look sad? Angry? Happy?
-
> Inspect the fairy. Are her wings made of ice? Does she look sad? Angry? Happy?
Run of the mill ordinary fairy. She seems to be sad, sitting down by herself with her knees to her chest.
-
> "You okay?"
-
> "You okay?"
She turns around to look at you.
"Not really, my home burned down."
-
> "Yikes. That's pretty bad. Anything I can do to help?"
-
> "Yikes. That's pretty bad. Anything I can do to help?"
"There is this big hollow tree that has plenty of space, but it's occupied by a youkai and I don't know where to find someone to help me."
You remember your basic danmaku skills and think that even if you teamed up, it probably wouldn't be enough.
-
> "I'll take care of your problem, just hold out for a bit."
> Ponder if Reimu would help us with this.
-
> "I'll take care of your problem, just hold out for a bit."
> Ponder if Reimu would help us with this.
"Ok, I'll just wait here then."
You go to Reimu's shrine thinking that it's her job to eliminate youkai.
Upon arriving, you find her sweeping the front of the shrine.
-
Damn, all this happened while I was sleeping?!
>Call over Reimu and give her the teapot
-
Damn, all this happened while I was sleeping?!
>Call over Reimu and give her the teapot
You call Reimu over and give her the teapot saying Marisa sent you to return it. She asks your name and you tell her.
-1 teapot
-
> Ask if she could help you solve the fairy's problem.
-
> Ask if she could help you solve the fairy's problem.
You tell her the fairy's dilemma, but she seems less than eager to do it.
"I'm pretty busy around here, I can't be bothered by the problems of a fairy."
Maybe she needs some encouragement?
-
Hmm... How much money does the shopping vendor have (because of multiple people)?
>"If you help the fairy, I might give you some gold."
-
Hmm... How much money does the shopping vendor have (because of multiple people)?
>"If you help the fairy, I might give you some gold."
You have 8 gold pieces currently.
"What? I'm offended. I'm an honorable shrine maiden and I can't be bribed like that."
You throw 1 gold piece in the donation box.
"Where is she?"
-
Hmm... How much money does the shopping vendor have (because of multiple people)?
>"If you help the fairy, I might give you some gold."
This is a bit too..how do you say it..rude, shopkeepers have to be polite.
Do this instead.
> "I am willing to pay for your service of course, whether through paying you with money, or a service of my own"
-
This is a bit too..how do you say it..rude, shopkeepers have to be polite.
Do this instead.
> "I am willing to pay for your service of course, whether through paying you with money, or a service of my own"
Ah, you're right. They do have to be polite.
You have 8 gold pieces currently.
"What? I'm offended. I'm an honorable shrine maiden and I can't be bribed like that."
You throw 1 gold piece in the donation box.
"Where is she?"
And she says she can't be bribed.
>"She's over there." *points to fairy*
-
Ah, you're right. They do have to be polite. And she says she can't be bribed.
>"She's over there." *points to fairy*
You point her over in the right direction and set off with Reimu to find the fairy.
Upon arriving, you find her sitting in the same spot looking melancholy.
"Hi! Is this person able to help me get rid of that youkai?"
Reimu, "Yup, I'll get rid of it for you."
Fairy, "Thanks! Follow me and I'll show you where it is."
She leads the way to a very large tree with a door cut into the trunk.
"It's in here, but the door won't budge."
-
>Have a look at the area.
>"So, what does this youkai look like, anyway?"
-
>Have a look at the area.
>"So, what does this youkai look like, anyway?"
The tree stands in the middle of a large clearing. Off to the side, you notice a cliff with a cave.
New area discovered!
Cliff cave- unexplored
You'll explore that later.
The fairy says, "I don't know, I've heard how this tree was available after my home burned down, so I came only to find the door shut. I have heard crashing noises from inside with some yells though."
-
>"Are you sure the youkai doesn't just live there?"
-
>"Are you sure the youkai doesn't just live there?"
"Eh? I'm pretty sure."
-
>Glance at Reimu. "Should we knock?"
-
>Glance at Reimu. "Should we knock?"
Reimu knocks on the door to no avail. Crashes can be heard from inside.
"Well that didn't work very well."
She holds up her homing amulets and blasts the door in.
-
>After the blast I stay a little behind Reimu and see what happens next
-
Considering that danmaku can get pretty damn wild...
> Tell the fairy to either wait outside or stay behind you.
-
>After the blast I stay a little behind Reimu and see what happens next
Considering that danmaku can get pretty damn wild...
> Tell the fairy to either wait outside or stay behind you.
Sticking close to Reimu, you tell the fairy to stay outside in case things get too wild.
You enter the tree and look around. Inside is a main foyer area with 3 rooms going off to the side. You notice a metal stove off in the corner.
In the shadows above you, something moving has caught your eye.
-
>"What's that?" I get Reimu's attention by pointing at the moving object.
-
>"What's that?" I get Reimu's attention by pointing at the moving object.
"Eh? I'll take care of this youkai."
She throws a few needles at it and the object falls down to the ground and starts groaning.
-
>Examine the groaning object?
-
>Examine the groaning object?
You walk closer to it, and upon examination you find it to be none other than....
Wriggle?
Reimu slaps her awake and asks her what she's doing there.
"Huh? How'd you get in? I came in here to explore and the door closed behind me and the handle fell off. What!? It's open? Thank you thank you!"
She flies out with an expression of freedom on her face.
The fairy walks in and thanks you graciously for helping her even if it was only Wriggle.
Reimu goes back to the shrine and leaves you two alone.
"Wow, this place is bigger than I thought. I'm not gonna be able to take up all this space by myself."
-
>"Hey, maybe there's a chance I could move in? I'd really appreciate if I could, my dear fairy".
<off topic> lol, Let's really name her Tear <offtop off>
-
>"Hey, maybe there's a chance I could move in? I'd really appreciate if I could, my dear fairy".
<off topic> lol, Let's really name her Tear <offtop off>
"Huh? Sure, I'm not gonna be able to take up this much space. You could use this for your vendor business huh? I guess we should get to know each other. Hi, I'm Mistydew Tear. Isn't there something you have to get back to right now involving that witch?"
-
> "Ah! Thanks for reminding me!"
> Head back to Marisa's.
-
As you seem not know, Hanged Hourai, tear is the name of a fairy from a game called Recettear, where a little girl opens an item shop to pay of her father's dept. Very cute, constructive and nicely made indy game.
Oh,carry on with the game, it's fun.
-
> "Ah! Thanks for reminding me!"
> Head back to Marisa's.
You hurry over over to Marisa's house and knock on the door. She answers,
"Ah, you gave it back? Well, as promised, here's your new cart! Huh, the frying pan? Heh, I kinda threw it at some firefly youkai who flew by and kept shouting, 'I'm free!' This'll still do won't it, ze?"
-
> "This is might actually be better. Thanks!"
> Head back to our tent and pack it up. We're movin' into the new place.
-
> "This is might actually be better. Thanks!"
> Head back to our tent and pack it up. We're movin' into the new place.
You accept the cart and head over to your tent, load it in, and then head to the new tree house.
When you get there, you see Tear settling in.
After a long day, you decide it best to set up your bedroom in one of the rooms and sleep.
-
>Set up and sleep.
>Whilst drifting off, consider what is nearby. That's gonna be our main customer base.
-
>Set up and sleep.
>Whilst drifting off, consider what is nearby. That's gonna be our main customer base.
You go to sleep and decide to ask Tear if there is an area with some people nearby in the morning.
Next day,
-5 gold for cost of food or -3 and eat the berries?
-
>Eat the berries.
>And make inquires with Taer.
-
>Eat the berries.
>And make inquires with Taer.
You eat the berries.
-3 gold
You walk out of your room and see Tear sweeping. You ask if there are any populated places around.
"Oh yeah, I heard about some mansion near a lake a kinda near here. Here are some directions."
She draws up a map to the mansion.
New area!
Mansion- unexplored

>Consider the map, then asks, "Anything else? These people are going to be our main customers, if ti all goes according to plan."
-
>Consider the map, then asks, "Anything else? These people are going to be our main customers, if ti all goes according to plan."
"While you were sleeping, I went out. I hope you don't mind, but I like collecting stuff as a hobby. I bring back the things I find here. I'm not really attached to any of it so feel free to sell anything I find. Everyday, I'll bring back some stuff. I guess we make a pretty good team don't we?"
-
>"So it seems. I'll be interested to see what you find!"
>Once breakfast times are through, go investigate this mansion.
-
>"So it seems. I'll be interested to see what you find!"
>Once breakfast times are through, go investigate this mansion.
You head over to the mansion after breakfast.
Upon arriving, you see a gate guard dressed in green standing at the entrance.
-
>Put on our best salesman smile; you know, the one that doesn't look like a salesman at all.
>Approach Big Green.
>"Good day, my fair lady! How are you?"
-
>Put on our best salesman smile; you know, the one that doesn't look like a salesman at all.
>Approach Big Green.
>"Good day, my fair lady! How are you?"
"I'm well, what business do you have at the Scarlet Devil Mansion?"
-
(Yayifications, Fairy named Tear GETTO)
>"I wish to ask if your Mistress, if she would be interest to allow me to come time to time, to sell my wares?"
(Belay till someone else posts atleast...i think)

"The mansion does require a lot of upkeep to keep things running smoothly, and some supplies are hard to find at times. I don't really have the authority to say, but I think a shop would be nice to have nearby. Hi, I'm Meiling. I wouldn't be a good gatekeeper if I just let you walk in and talk to the mistress the first time you show up, but I'm here and I'm interested in what you have to sell."
-
>"Perhaps you can arrange an appointment? As for what I have to sell, as it stands we're still gathering inventory, thus the research. But..."
>Show her what we got.
-
>"Perhaps you can arrange an appointment? As for what I have to sell, as it stands we're still gathering inventory, thus the research. But..."
>Show her what we got.
"I'm not sure about the mistress, but perhaps some other residents would be interested in a new shopkeeper. I'll ask the mistress for permission to let you in and sell your wares later."
"Ohhhhh, nails, my stool broke a while back and I haven't gotten the chance to get some nails. How much for 10 of them?"
-
>What would be a fair price on nails?
-
>What would be a fair price on nails?
"Oh, I don't know. How about 7 gold pieces for 10?"
Accept or haggle more?
-
>"That'll do."
>No need to push too hard for now. It's a small purchase.
-
>"That'll do."
>No need to push too hard for now. It's a small purchase.

Yup

>Examine the book.
The cave is located in the side of a large cliff. All around are trees and the occasional bush. Off on the side of the cliff is a waterfall that you assume leads down to the forest stream.

>Let's get a look at that waterfall while we're here.
The book cover is moldy and crusty. The pages are smeared and written in an unknown language. You have nothing to learn from it.
You walk over to the waterfall to get a look at it. The waterfall river has many fish swimming about in it.

>Does the river run in the direction of our new digs? If so, walk along it until it deviates from our goal.
Time: 3:00
You walk along the river for a distance watching the fish swim around until you change direction to your house. You enter your home. Tear isn't around right now.
Do you want to load everything up in the cart and head back, or take certain things out of your pockets and store them and head back?
-
> Store away all of the stuff on us and head back to the Cave with the cart for a fresh load of items.

> Store away all of the stuff on us and head back to the Cave with the cart for a fresh load of items.
You put away all your stuff and head back to the cave with the cart. On the way, you come across a broken clock and load it in.

You arrive at the cave.

> Search inside the cave, but don't go too far inside.

> Search inside the cave, but don't go too far inside.
>Particularly if we don't have a good light source, or the floor seems too rough.
>Do take careful note of the interior.
You head a little inside the cave, but you can't see very far due to no light. The floor seems rocky, but the walls are moist and covered with some moss.
-
>Little of note, then. At least until a proper light source is found.
>Let's go hassle people at that mansion again! And keep an eye out for other places or things of interest along the way.
-
>Little of note, then. At least until a proper light source is found.
>Let's go hassle people at that mansion again! And keep an eye out for other places or things of interest along the way.
You decide there's nothing worthwhile and leave the cave. On the way to the mansion, you see a strange metal key with three prongs sticking out of the end. You pick it up.

You arrive at the mansion to find Meiling sleeping on a stool near the gate.
-
>Does there seem to be anyone else around?
>If not, approach Big Green and gently says, "Good afternoon."
>Keep far enough back not to be hit by surprising waking flagellations.
-
>Does there seem to be anyone else around?
>If not, approach Big Green and gently says, "Good afternoon."
>Keep far enough back not to be hit by surprising waking flagellations.
No one else seems to be around. You talk to Greenie, but she just mumbles in her sleep.
-
>Gently shake Big Green's shoulder.
-
>Gently shake Big Green's shoulder.
You shake Meiling, but she doesn't move. You're pretty sure that she's not gonna be waking up soon.
-
>Oh well. Let's leave her be.
>How far to Casa de Marisa from here? Could we make there today?
-
>Oh well. Let's leave her be.
>How far to Casa de Marisa from here? Could we make there today?
It's around 5:00 so her house would be the last destination for the day.
-
>decide that entering wouldn't be very nice at all and go to Marisa's showing her things we found. Maybe she'll be interested in the book.
-
>decide that entering wouldn't be very nice at all and go to Marisa's showing her things we found. Maybe she'll be interested in the book.
You head back into the forest and go over to Marisa's house. She opens the door and you show her what you found.
"Ohh, this book looks interesting. Wanna trade for one of mine, ze?
-
Can I read any books? I got a basic knowledge, don't I?
>"I can;'t read that book, so sure. What interesting books I can read you would like to trade?"
-

>"I can;'t read that book, so sure. What interesting books I can read you would like to trade?"
Yeah you can read.
"I gotta bunch! How about this one, ze?"
She holds up a large-ish red book. You still cannot read the unknown language. Looking at her other books, they look like they're written in the same language.
-
>"What language are these in? What is this book?"
-
>"What language are these in? What is this book?"
"Huh, that's a book of magic, so it's written in the language of magic. This book here talks about fire and metal magic."
-
>Attempt to learn and attempt a harmless fire/metal spell

>Given that probably won't work, instead ask, "Ah. Is it, um, powerful? The book that is? Does it cover advanced stuff? Or is it a beginner's thing?"
-
>Given that probably won't work, instead ask, "Ah. Is it, um, powerful? The book that is? Does it cover advanced stuff? Or is it a beginner's thing?"
"Well, its sorta for advanced users, but then that's a really good deal I'm giving you, ze!"
-
>"Throw in a few of those mushrooms you said you had too many of, and we have a deal. I need breakfast, you see..."
-
>"Throw in a few of those mushrooms you said you had too many of, and we have a deal. I need breakfast, you see..."

-
>"Well, let's say it like this: Is there anywhere I shouldn't try to sell this?"
"Nah, don't worry. They were thrown away and I fixed them up good as new. Well, I should probably get some sleep for tomorrow."
With that, she flies in her room and shuts the door.

>Make sure the house is in proper working order, dine, and then head off to bed as well.

You walk out of your room at 9:00 to see Tear already up.
"Oh hey, I got a message on the door addressed to you."
She hands you an envelope. You open it.
"I convinced the mistress to let you come in to sell your wares, but she's busy today so she won't be able to see you personally. This is a chance to make a good first impression on the household. Keep in mind that you should choose your words and actions carefully while in the mansion. During your visit, you may bring as many wares as you would like and be able to travel freely through the house. For some final advice, don't do anything stupid as obvious as that sounds.

"Today, you won't have an escort, but your accessable areas will be limited. You may go to the east wing, the west wing, and the basement library today."
She walks away and leaves you on your own.
-
>I'm making my way first to the east wing, offering petty stuff to generic fairies on the way. (by petty stuff I mean all we have except the magic book and the cart). I'll try to sell more items on the way to someone that looks he might be in charge here, or at least higher and less random then the generic fairies.

You head over to the east wing and spy a group of maids socializing, you show your wares to them.
"Ohhhhhh, I like those head ribbons. How about 1 gold coin for both of them?"
-
>"One a piece, I'm afraid. It's not easy to get your hands on things like these."

She walks away with her maid friends laughing and glancing back at you.
The hallway is now almost empty except for a maid sweeping.

> Head back the way we came and go for the basement library.
-
> Head back the way we came and go for the basement library.
You go back to the foyer and wander around for a while before entering the basement library. You see rows of books reaching almost to the ceiling going as far as you can see. A shuffling noise can be heard off in the distance.
-
>Look around. Move toward the shuffling noise.
>Try not to smack into any shelves.
-
>Look around. Move toward the shuffling noise.
>Try not to smack into any shelves.
You see row upon row of books in all sorts of languages.
You follow the sound until you come across a red-haired girl dressed in black and white with wings sprouting out her head and back. She's busy putting books on a shelf.
-
> "Um... Excuse me?"
-
> "Um... Excuse me?"
"Huh?"
She turns around to look at you.
"Oh that's right, Miss Patchy said someone would probably be coming by today. How are you?"
-
>"Properly breathing, thank you very much. And if you could introduce me to this Miss Patchy?"
-
>"Properly breathing, thank you very much. And if you could introduce me to this Miss Patchy?"
"Ummmm? Good for you? Hey, wutcha got in there? Can I take a peek?"
-
>"I'd like to think it's good for me!"
>"Please, be my guest."
-
>"I'd like to think it's good for me!"
>"Please, be my guest."
She looks at you funny then walks around to look in the cart.
"Ooooooo! String! These flowers look pretty. Nice cloth. Your clock's busted. Hey..."
She holds up the magic book.
"This is Miss Patchy's favorite fire book. She's been looking for this everywhere! She even offered a large reward to any of the maids if they could find it. She'd probably pay you a ton if you gav-... Hi there I'm Koakuma. Do you think I could get that book from you? I'd consider it a huge favor if you did."
-
> "Sure. Name your price and we can take it from there."
-
> "Sure. Name your price and we can take it from there."
"Errrrm, you see the thing is, I don't really get paid, so I don't really have any money. But Miss Patchy would probably not pay me even if I brought the book since I'm her assistant. She'd be really happy with me though. I guess I'm asking if I could have the book. But I'd consider it a huuuuuuuuuuuuuge favor."
-
>"And what sort of favor should I expect in return?"
-
>"And what sort of favor should I expect in return?"
"Ummmmmmm, I dunno. I'll just remember this if something comes up."
-
So I'm thinking no. While it would undoubted get us friendship points and stuff, we are a Merchant, and our task is to shake this world down for every time dime it has.
But if the rest of yalls are down, then I'll be down.

But if the rest of yalls are down, then I'll be down.
As much as I'd hate to do it to Koakuma, I agree with this.
-
"Oh. I guess that's your choice then. Well, I'll at least show you to where Miss Patchy is."
You follow her through rows of books before you see a person sitting a a table reading a book off in the distance.
"One more thing, she's kinda stingy so she'll probably try to underpay you. Haggle for the book, she wants it."
With that, Koakuma walks off and disappears behind a shelf of books.
-
>Quietly: "I'll keep that in mind, thank you."
>We an tip her later, for the tip.
>Approach Miss Patchy. "Good day, my lady."
-
>Quietly: "I'll keep that in mind, thank you."
>We an tip her later, for the tip.
>Approach Miss Patchy. "Good day, my lady."
"Hm?"
She looks up from her book to look at you. She seems annoyed that her reading got interrupted.
"Why are you here?"
-
> "I have been informed by your assistant that you have been looking for this particular book."
> Show Patchouli the tome.
-
> "I have been informed by your assistant that you have been looking for this particular book."
> Show Patchouli the tome.
She looks surprised for a moment, then regains her composure.
"Thank you for finding this book for me, it would have been a nuisance to get it myself. As a finder's fee, here's 10 gold pieces for you."
-
>"It's worth fifty, at least."
-
>"It's worth fifty, at least."
"You don't even understand the book, I'll give you 15 for it."

>"I know a witch in the forest who would give me double the price I asked. All that matters is that she understands it."
-
>"I know a witch in the forest who would give me double the price I asked. All that matters is that she understands it."
"Eh? Tell me, where did you get that book anyway? I've had the mansion scoured with no trace of it. If it was stolen, then you are in posession of stolen property and should give it back to me for free. 20 for it and I'll forget it was stolen."
-
>"Or just lost. A faerie I share a home with found it. But if you don't want to deal, as I said, I know another buyer who is willing to pay what it's worth."
-
>"Or just lost. A faerie I share a home with found it. But if you don't want to deal, as I said, I know another buyer who is willing to pay what it's worth."

>"45 gold."

You leave Patchoulli and wander around the library looking for the exit. You stumble across Koakuma sorting encyclopedias.
"Huh? Oh hey there."
-
>Give her five golds.
>"She might not have paid you, but I can at least give a tip for the assistance."

>Hug back, though not so fervently.

>Hug back, though not so fervently.
"Here, let me show you out of here."
She guides you through the rows of books with a skip in her step until you reach the entrance.
"Thank you again!"
She walks back into the library humming to herself.
You walk a bit and end up back in the foyer.

>Check the other wing now.

>Check the other wing now.
You head over to the west wing and see a maid polishing her knives.
-
> "Hello there" Those are some sharp knives.

> "Hello there" Those are some sharp knives.
"Hm, yes they are. I'm the head maid of this mansion. I was told you'd come and I suppose you'd want to show me your wares."
-
>"I indeed intend to do so, fair and beautiful lady" Show her off all I have.
-
>"I indeed intend to do so, fair and beautiful lady" Show her off all I have.
"Hmmm."
She holds up the broken clock and takes out a pocketwatch. She opens the back of her watch and takes out a few gears. She takes out some gears from the broken clock and replaces them in her pocketwatch.
"That should make my watch run a little smoother now."
She turns to leave.
-
>"That'll be two gold, please."
-
>"That'll be two gold, please."
"Hm?"
She turns back to look at you.
"I should give you something huh? I don't have any need for this."
She drops a rusty knife on the ground and turns to leave again."
-
>"Actually, perhaps we could talk a little. I assume you're in charge of things around here?"
-
>"Actually, perhaps we could talk a little. I assume you're in charge of things around here?"
"I'm not the head of the mansion. My name is Sakuya and I'm the head maid around here."
-
>"Yes, but you're the one who keeps it running from day to day, yes?"
-
>"Yes, but you're the one who keeps it running from day to day, yes?"
"I do my part. Why do you ask?"
-
>"Then you'd be the one I need to speak with. You see, I'm opening a store not far from here, and I would like to stock up on things you would need."
-
>"Then you'd be the one I need to speak with. You see, I'm opening a store not far from here, and I would like to stock up on things you would need."
"I see, and you would like to be a supplier for the mansion?"
-
>"I think we'd both benefit from it, yes."
-
>"I think we'd both benefit from it, yes."
"I'll think about it. From the looks of your supplies, it seems you are more a pawn shop than a supplier. When you get more merchandise, we'll talk more."
She turns around and walks further in the corridor, disappearing from view.
-
>Before she goes: "Well, that's because I would need to know what you'd want, first. Until then, yes, I'm just doing thing on the side to keep me going."

I'm stunned that Sakuya ignored a compliment AND turned out to be weirder then Patchouli. Oh, and good job with the merchant Attitude, Diamonds Purvis. I'm not fit for that ;.;

"I scared some lost people in the woods, thanks for asking."
You stare at her blankly.

>Get dinner on. Tell Teer the story of our trip to the Mansion.
You cook up dinner and tell your story about the trip to the mansion. After your story, Tear takes out an envelope and gives it to you. You see it's addressed from Alice and open it up.
"I have need of your item finding services again. For my new project, I need youkai spider spiderwebs to make the strings. Do this, and I'll be able to make you a special doll."

>"Yeah, the thing about quoting economic principles blindly when you're asking people to pay for taking your trash? It's not good for repeat business. I'll give you one gold."

>"Yeah, the thing about quoting economic principles blindly when you're asking people to pay for taking your trash? It's not good for repeat business. I'll give you one gold."
"Hmph. Fine, you can have it for one, but you must come by here and get something to eat with your fairy buddy eventually."

"Here you go."
She passes you a bucket of some type of grease. You dip both torches in the bucket.
-2 unoiled torches
+2 oiled torches
"Will that be all?"
-
>"I guess so. Unless Tear wants anything"
-
>"I guess so. Unless Tear wants anything"
"Nah, I'm good."
Both of you walk out of the stand.
"Well, you handled that well. Being a shopkeeper, you should probably keep in mind that your customers are different and need to be handled differently. Mystia is a diva. If you went in and started complimenting her singing and the stand, she would've probably been more than happy to just give you the oil. Keep that in mind next time we meet a customer or a business partner. Well, we got the torches, what should we do now?"
-
>"That's pretty insincere sounding, though. I mean, if someone butters you up, then asks for something, most people are going to be terribly suspicious. Especially over something that should be innocent. She's just greedy and there's no helping that."
>Onward toward them caves.

>Onward toward them caves.
You journey out to the cave and stand in front of the entrance.
"So what now? These aren't lit."
-
>"You got any light? matches?"
>If not, attempt to build a little fire away from the cave to light up the torches.
-
>"You got any light? matches?"
>If not, attempt to build a little fire away from the cave to light up the torches.
"Nope."
You gather sticks and tinder to build a small fire, but still have nothing to light it with.
-
>One would hope, living day to day in a non-electrified tree, we'd have some matches, or flint and steel. Light and cooking don't come fro nowhere.
-
>One would hope, living day to day in a non-electrified tree, we'd have some matches, or flint and steel. Light and cooking don't come fro nowhere.
"Back to the house!"
You go on back home and to take some matches and hurry back to the cave.
-------------------
On a side note, in the future, can we not use items in the house because I want the game to be more focused on the inventory, not whatever's lying around the house.
-
Point, but there's also the aspect of things people would logically have onhand. For instance, I notice our inventory doesn't seem to contain our clothing...
>Light a torch, and into the cave!
-
>Light a torch, and into the cave!
You light up the torches and walk carefully into the cave looking around. A little ways in, the moss on the wall stops and just become wet rock. The ground is gravelly and hard. Once you go a distance in, the cave opens up into a huge cavern. You hear a voice from up above you.
"Hello? Who's there?
-
>Look up
>"Just a wanderer seeking some silk threads."
-
>Look up
>"Just a wanderer seeking some silk threads."
"A wanderer huh? Don't see too many of those wandering down here with torches and a... fairy? You aren't an ordindinary wanderer."
From up above, you see a girl desend from the ceiling on spiderwebs.
"You want some silk threads? Meaning my webs? What for?"
-
>"Those would do nicely, but I wouldn't want you to tear up your existing ones. It's for a friend, actually. She wants to use them as strings for some puppets."
-
>"Those would do nicely, but I wouldn't want you to tear up your existing ones. It's for a friend, actually. She wants to use them as strings for some puppets."
"Oh that's nice, I'd be glad to give you some."
She jumps back up in the shadows and reappears a moment later holding a very generous length of web.
"Here you go, freshly spun. Some of the strongest thread in Gensokyo. It's not often I get such polite visitors."

Still going good, no hurry.
"It was nice meeting you two."
She turns to leave.

>"Actually, since we live nearby, it shouldn't be too much of a problem for us if there's something you'd want, as well.
-
>"Actually, since we live nearby, it shouldn't be too much of a problem for us if there's something you'd want, as well.
"Huh? Well there's not really anything I need right now, but I'll keep you in mind if something comes up."
Tear leans over and whispers to you, "Should we give her something? It was really nice of her to do that for us."
-
>To Tea-er: "That was plan B."

"Thank you again vendor!"
She jumps up and starts ascending to the ceiling on a web.
"My name's Yamame, I hope to see you again soon!" she calls out while disappearing from view.
You see the torches are starting to fizzle.
-
>Good thing we only lit one.
>"Until next time!"
>Head out! If the lit one seems in danger of going out, light the other off of it.

>Good thing we only lit one.

>Head out! If the lit one seems in danger of going out, light the other off of it.
You turn back to exit the cave. During the trip, the torch starts to die and you light the other one on it. By the time you leave the cave, this one dies too.

You hurry on over to Alice's house and knock on the door.
She answers,
"Oh good to see you, and I see you have the web. Come on in."
You walk in and take a seat on the couch.
"Was it much trouble to get the web?"
-

"Thanks for that. Now, the surprise reward I have for you is your very own doll bodyguard."
She pulls out an ordinary looking doll dressed in clothes with a lance.
"I know your danmaku skills aren't very good, but this doll will be able to assist you in a fight. Should the doll ever break, I can fix it for a fee. If it ever totally gets destroyed or if you want another for more protection, come to me and I'll give you one for 300 gold coins. Now, to put an enchantment on it so that it only responds to you, you need to name it."
-
>Name it: Mumbai.

When there is a theme, we shall stick to it. And Mumbai owns. It's has Zoroastrians.

"Nice name, here we go."
She mutters an incantation under her breath, only saying the word 'Mumbai' audibly.
"That should do it."
She hands you Mumbai.

"Now this doll will only work for you, so don't go selling it. And this doll will not be used for chores or reaching something you can't or anything like that. It will only be used for your protection."

"You are very useful to me, saving me time from getting supplies myself. So it would be in my interest to help you so you may obtain new merchandise and not die so that I may continue to save time."

She escorts you out her door.
It is now 5:00. Anything else to do or just go back home?

> Thank Tear for today's help. "Hey, maybe you wanna eat something better today then our usual food?"
>Take the long way home, though.
As you head home you inspect Mumbai. She's dressed in Alice's standard doll uniform of maid-looking clothes. About 12 inches tall, she fairly large, but you see no other weapons. Maybe there's some magic weapon built in. Upon inspection, Mumbai jumps to life and perches on your shoulder, lance at her side.
"I guess the spell finally kicked in." Tear says eyeing the doll on your shoulder.
"Huh, eat better? Like eat out at somewhere? What did you have in mind?

"Mystia's? Sure, let's go there!"
Both of you walk down to Mystia's stand at around sunset. Upon entering, you are greeted by Mystia.
"Hello there! So you decided to come, huh? Shall I get you some food?"

She cuts off when two new customers enter the stand. One is wearing red pants and suspenders and the other has a blue dress and a funny looking hat.

You walk over towards the market area. Many vendors are selling goods out of stalls or out of baskets. People walk past you without noticing. From here, you see many people hawking goods for medicine and food and the like. As you look around, you see poor people begging for change.

The vendor is a tall, thin man with tan clothes and a white apron. He stands by a wheelbarrow filled with mushrooms and yells to passerby about how great they are.

Looking around, you see a flyer about the thief

No description is available, but he is known to be very dangerous. If you have any information about the thief, contact authorities.
>Does the guy's stand have any more information, such as a name?

You open your cart to passerby, but no one really takes notice of you. A little while into it, you hear a voice from behind you.
"That's not really how you're supposed to do it."
You turn around and see the mushroom vendor standing behind you with a smile on his face.

G'dammit Smoku, you gotta have some class when doing this stuff.

He walks off with his wheelbarrow.

The flyer warns citizens to lock up goods and stay indoors, report sightings to authorities, yada yada.... At the bottom, you notice that the reward was increased by 100 coins.
There's a fountain in the center of town square that people toss coins in for good luck. People hanging around here are either socializing or spreading the news.
You head back to your tree house and it turns dark by the time you reach it. Tear greets you happily upon your arrival.

From what you can tell, he's yelling about, "gone"..."thief"..."barrel". And a slew of curses.
-
>"...But that sounds like a good place to check. For the right definition of good, anyways."
>Toward the shouting!
-
>"...But that sounds like a good place to check. For the right definition of good, anyways."
>Toward the shouting!
Both of you hurry over to the man yelling. Upon arrival, he continues shouting, "My barrels are gone! Dang thief took them while I put them outside to be shipped!"
-
>"Excuse me, sir. We're looking for someone who might be...ah...engaging in those kind of acts. Could you give us some more details?"
-
>"Excuse me, sir. We're looking for someone who might be...ah...engaging in those kind of acts. Could you give us some more details?"
He stops yelling long enought to talk to you.
"I put out a barrel to be shipped in front of my house here, and went inside. When I came out, I saw the winged thief make off with it."
-
>Mentally compare the size of Tear and the size of your average barrel.
>"How large was it? And which way did she go?"
-
>Mentally compare the size of Tear and the size of your average barrel.
>"How large was it? And which way did she go?"
"The barrel was about four feet tall. The thief flew off with it down the street to the schoolhouse."
-
>Does Taer have the height, or the strength, to lift a reasonably full barrel of that size?
>"Right, we'll look into it."
>Toward the schoolhouse!
-
>Does Taer have the height, or the strength, to lift a reasonably full barrel of that size?
>"Right, we'll look into it."
>Toward the schoolhouse!
Well, the barrel wasn't full. I guess I missed that in my description. So she could have made off with it.
Both you and Reimu head off towards the schoolhouse. The kids don't seem to be in session right now, but the front door is left open.
-
>Look around. Any signs of winged thieves or errant barrels.
>If nothing presents itself, head inside the school.
-
>Look around. Any signs of winged thieves or errant barrels.
>If nothing presents itself, head inside the school.
Nothing unusual seems to be around.
Both of you head into the school. Inside looks like a single classroom, with desks facing a chalkboard. No sign of a thief or Tear.
From back in the doorway, you hear a voice. "What are you doing in my classroom?"
Looking around to see who it is, you recognize the funny hat lady from the stand.
-
>"My apologies, but desperate times and measures. I'm looking for someone with wings carrying a barrel, probably moving past in a big hurry. Have you seen her?"
-
>"My apologies, but desperate times and measures. I'm looking for someone with wings carrying a barrel, probably moving past in a big hurry. Have you seen her?"
"Why no I haven't. And what are you doing here Reimu? I never expected you to-... Where did you get those?"
She cuts off her sentence to point at your cart. "Are those charms?..." She looks very wide-eyed and nervous.
-
>"Um, I think so, according to her anyways."
>Glance at Reimu. "That's a bad thing, isn't it?"
-
>"Um, I think so, according to her anyways."
>Glance at Reimu. "That's a bad thing, isn't it?"
"Yup."
Funny hat lady seems to be panicking.
"Ohhh boy. Oh boy. Oh boy. This is not good. Reeeeeally not good."
She stops talking for a moment and looks at you.
"Does that mean.... does that mean you're the thief?"
-
>"Why would I walk in here with them if I were? Um, I'd like to stay and talk, but I think the thief is probably using this time to get away..."
-
>"Why would I walk in here with them if I were? Um, I'd like to stay and talk, but I think the thief is probably using this time to get away..."
"Oh no. I'm coming with you to get to the bottom of this. If you're caught with those, then I can at least calm her down so that the entire village isn't burnt to a crisp."
-
>"No problems with that. And if you have any ideas where that thief might have gone, that would be terribly helpful."
-
>"No problems with that. And if you have any ideas where that thief might have gone, that would be terribly helpful."
"Well, I saw someone come in here, that's why I came over. But before I got here, two more figures entered. I'm assuming that's you two. If the thief didn't come out through the front, then he must've gotten out the back door."
-
>"Then we have no time to waste"
>After the thief with the team.
>My doll's on my back?
-
>"Then we have no time to waste"
>After the thief with the team.
>My doll's on my back?
Mumbai is still with you.
You head out the back door to find an empty dirt road. In the dirt, there are tiny fotoprints leading out of the village to the Forest of Magic.
-
>Follow these fotoprints!
-
>Follow these fotoprints!
You follow the footprints for a while, leading you to the Forest of Magic, but still close to the edge of the village. The prints lead up to this shack that looks half-blackened by ash, and half-newly constucted.
You can see Keine visibly freaking out.
"Oh no. She didn't hide in there did she? Oh boy."
-
>"Huh?" Why are you so afraid? What is this place?"
-
>"Huh?" Why are you so afraid? What is this place?"
"This is my friend's house. You saw her with me at the stand. It was from her clothes that those charms came from, and she is not happy about it."
-
> "Oh... Well then. I think its kinda obvious who the thief is now."
> Look around for Tear.
-
> "Oh... Well then. I think its kinda obvious who the thief is now."
> Look around for Tear.
You walk around a bit, looking for the little fairy. Around the back of the house, you see a very conspicuous barrel that appears to be....shaking?
-
> Check the barrel.
-
>Knock on the barrel gently, as if knocking on a door.
-
> Check the barrel.
>Knock on the barrel gently, as if knocking on a door.
You knock on it. The shaking stops for a second, and then continues even faster than before.
Opening the lid, you find nothing Tear looking up at you.
"H-hey there."
-
> "I think its about time you explained yourself."
-
> "I think its about time you explained yourself."
"Well, I found this stuff, but people got angry at me for some reason. Everything I found was all by itself with no one around. I don't know why they got so upset."
-
God, fairy logic.
>"... Well, they didn't throw all this away, didn't they? It wasn't very nice of you, Tear... You should ask before you take stuff. What are we going to do now?"
-
God, fairy logic.
>"... Well, they didn't throw all this away, didn't they? It wasn't very nice of you, Tear... You should ask before you take stuff. What are we going to do now?"
Tear climbs out of the barrel.
"We can just go on and forget this happened."
Keine facepalms herself.
"We need to think of a way to give the charms back without getting my friend so mad she burns half the Forest."
-
>Rather than upbraiding someone who was only trying to help us out...
>"The problem is, Tear, that just because they weren't around doesn't mean that they didn't want the things you took. What if I went to the bathroom, and someone took my cart because I wasn't there with it?"
>"Perhaps Tear could return them and say she found them somewhere?"
-
>"Perhaps Tear could return them and say she found them somewhere?"
Keine ponders this for a moment.
"Well, if we do that, then she'll get suspicious. Who ever heard of a fairy returning something she found? We need to make this believeable."
-
>"Are you able to return them, Keine?"
-
>"Are you able to return them, Keine?"
"I could do that, but where would I say I got them from? If I say I found them, she'll need to know how they got that way. If I say I got them from a fairy, then she'll still want to beat the fairy up. We need to convince her beyond a shadow of a doubt that the entire thing has been taken care of."
-
>"Maybe say that they fell off her clothes when she didn't notice?"
-
>"Maybe say that they fell off her clothes when she didn't notice?"
Tear speaks up, "I found them when I was out here. They were just on some pants that were hung on a string. They were kinda wet too."
Keine facepalms again.
"She took them while they were drying. There goes that idea."
-
>"We could always say you found them on the way to somewhere, right? Does she visit? Maybe you could say she lost them there?"
-
>"We could always say you found them on the way to somewhere, right? Does she visit? Maybe you could say she lost them there?"
"Nah, she must've noticed they went missing whle they were drying. I have an idea but it's kinda sadistic."
-
>"Go on."
-
>"Go on."
"Well, my friend won't give up on this until she gets satisfied with the results. And she probably wants to end the fairy."
Tear gulps.
"But," Keine continues,"if we make it seem like the fairy has been dealt with for stealing, then she'll be happy with that and drop the entire thing. We need to stage a fight."
-
>"Hmmm. One other idea. What would happen if she found them on her own?"
-
>"Hmmm. One other idea. What would happen if she found them on her own?"
"We would have to do it in such a way that she wouldn't be suspicious. We can't just put them back in her house and expect her to go along with it."
-
>"Yeah, we'd have to leave them somewhere she could feasibly trip over them at one point or another, and feasibly think, 'Oh there they are!' And I think we'd need your help for both those things."
-
>"Yeah, we'd have to leave them somewhere she could feasibly trip over them at one point or another, and feasibly think, 'Oh there they are!' And I think we'd need your help for both those things."
"I would be glad to do that, but your friend took them while they were drying. It's not like she was moving them around. She knows it was someone else who did it."
-
>"Out of curiousity, how good is her memory? About average?"
-
>"Out of curiousity, how good is her memory? About average?"
"Yeah, why do you ask?"
-
>"Then this is what we do. You make up a few little things, things she can could have 'forgotten'. Such as...I dunno, maybe claim she was going to bring up something for dinner? Little harmless things, and when she doesn't 'remember' them, after a bit, mention that she seems to have problems with that lately. This would work better if we could get a couple more people involved. Then, we place these charms somewhere inconspicuous, and when she rages naturally, insist she must have forgot removing them."
>"Alternately...think you could claim to have done it, as either a prank or the clean them or something?"
-
>"Then this is what we do. You make up a few little things, things she can could have 'forgotten'. Such as...I dunno, maybe claim she was going to bring up something for dinner? >"Alternately...think you could claim to have done it, as either a prank or the clean them or something?"
"I like the first idea, put on a little play for her. Nice. As for the second, there's no way I'm going to take the literal and metaphorical heat for this. How do you suggest carrying out the plan?"
-
>"Who does she know that we can get in on it? The more people playing along, the better. Though I guess we don't want to lay it on too thick."
>_
-
>"Who does she know that we can get in on it? The more people playing along, the better. Though I guess we don't want to lay it on too thick."
>_
"Well, the group we have now could work. You "deliver" a package to her that she never ordered, Reimu can thank her for the donations she made to the shrine, and I could put the idea that she lost the charms in her head, then help her "find" them."
-
>"Sounds perfect. Um, is she the donating type?"
>Glance to ReiRei.
-
>"Sounds perfect. Um, is she the donating type?"
>Glance to ReiRei.
Reimu gives you a slightly annoyed stare.
"No. No she isn't. Works better for our plan."
-
>"Alright, got an idea for something she might actually order?"
-
>"Alright, got an idea for something she might actually order?"
Keine looks into your cart.
"Let's see what you have, and give her a combination of stuff she'll never have ordered normally."
-
>"No, that's too suspicious. She'd be less likely to doubt it if she ordered something normal for her. You're more like to forget something routine. We'll need a day for it, too."
-
>"No, that's too suspicious. She'd be less likely to doubt it if she ordered something normal for her. You're more like to forget something routine. We'll need a day for it, too."
"For the day, how about tomorrow? And for the stuff, how about that broom of yours? Her's never last for too long."
-
>"Alright. But I mean a day she ordered it, so I can say, 'You ordered at this time'. But yeah, tomorrow's a good time to enact the plan, it'll give her some time to cool off. Especially if she stops by tonight, so you can start to work her over."
-
>"Alright. But I mean a day she ordered it, so I can say, 'You ordered at this time'. But yeah, tomorrow's a good time to enact the plan, it'll give her some time to cool off. Especially if she stops by tonight, so you can start to work her over."
"Sounds good. I'll get to work. Meanwhile, you two need to get ready."
You smell a faint trace of smoke in the air.
"Oh boy, she's coming back. You three get away from here, and I'll stay and greet her."
-
>If we can put a direction to the smell, head out the opposite way.
-
>If we can put a direction to the smell, head out the opposite way.
The smell seems to be coming from deeper in the forest, so you head back to the village.
Reimu speaks up when you get to the town square.
"Well, this has been fun and all, but I neen to get back to my shrine."
-
> "Okay. Thanks again for the help."
-
> "Okay. Thanks again for the help."
"Seeya."
And with that, Reimu goes off and heads back to her shrine.
It is about 1:00 and you and Tear are in the town square.
-
>Do we think we have time to make a mushroom run from Marisa to back here?
-
>Do we think we have time to make a mushroom run from Marisa to back here?
To Marisa's, yes. Back here is a no go.
-
>Oh well, we can deliver the goods later. To Marisaheim!
-
>Oh well, we can deliver the goods later. To Marisaheim!
Both you and Tear leave the village and head over to the Forest of Magic to visit Marisa.
Upon arrival, as if waiting for you, Marisa opens her door and greets you.
"Haven't seen you in a while~ze. What can I do?"
-
>"Mushrooms, my friend. How many do you have today?"
-
>"Mushrooms, my friend. How many do you have today?"
"More than you can take, how many do you want?"
-
>They were one gold each, right?
>"I'll take twenty; and you should let me have them for 15 golds as a bulk discount for getting them out of your way."
-
>They were one gold each, right?
>"I'll take twenty; and you should let me have them for 15 golds as a bulk discount for getting them out of your way."
"Ahhhh. No. If you want to pay 15, then you can buy 15."
-
"Ahhhh. No. If you want to pay 15, then you can buy 15."
>"C'mon, I'm getting them out of the way for you. 17?"
-
>"C'mon, I'm getting them out of the way for you. 17?"
"15 for 15. Not gonna budge on this."
-
>"Okay, fine. I'll have twenty, but I get to playfully call you a chiseler."
-
>"Okay, fine. I'll have twenty, but I get to playfully call you a chiseler."
"That's ok with me."
Marisa goes back into her house and reappears with a bag of mushrooms.
"Here you are."
-20 gold coins
+20 mushrooms
-
>"Thanks, chiseler!"
>Have we time to go anywhere that isn't home?
-
>"Thanks, chiseler!"
>Have we time to go anywhere that isn't home?
Not really, it's late.
-
>We go home then
-
>We go home then
Both you and Tear head home after butying your mushrooms. Upon arrival, Tear says to you, "Ya know, tomorrow, if we do this right, we can get that big reward everyone's talking about."
-
>"And what would fall under the heading of doing it right?"
-
>"And what would fall under the heading of doing it right?"
"Well, if we somehow convince Keine that I'll stop finding stuff, then we'll have stopped the thief, and get the reward."
-

Wanted: Unnamed Thief
1000 coin reward for capture
No description is available, but he is known to be very dangerous. If you have any information about the thief, contact authorities.
And 100 coins was added to the reward before, so that's 1100.
-
>Does the picture look even a little bit like Tier?
-
>Does the picture look even a little bit like Tier?
Well, the picture has wings. And people were probably angry about their missing stuff, so they would describe the thief menacingly.
-
>"Says here you have to be caught, not stopped."
-
>"Says here you have to be caught, not stopped."
"Well, after we convince scary lady she forgot her charms, we can put on a show in the village. You heroically stop me in the act of stealing something. Keine won't be able to object because if she does, then that would mean she knew something about the crimes and withheld information. Pretty sinister thoughts for a fairy, huh?"
-
>"I'm pretty sure being caught involves being thrown in jail or being beaten or something."
-
>"I'm pretty sure being caught involves being thrown in jail or being beaten or something."
"You can capture me and tie me up or something, then they'll hand you the money, you leave, and I escape. Think of all the possibilities we could do with that money."
-
>"What if you can't escape?"
-
>"What if you can't escape?"
"You tie me up in a way that I can just slip out. It's foolproof."
-
>"And when people see us together later on?"
-
>"And when people see us together later on?"
"I just wear a disguise when I go get captured. I'll even dress up like the flyer so it seems more convincing."
-
>"What an unsure plan.... Let's go with it then, fine"
-
>"What an unsure plan.... Let's go with it then, fine"
"Yeah! That's the spirit! I'm going to start getting ready for the big day tomorrow."
And with that, she flies into her room and shuts the door.
-
>Clean up a bit, take care of nightly tasks. Max and relax. Then go to bed.
-
>Clean up a bit, take care of nightly tasks. Max and relax. Then go to bed.
You go to sleep.
The next day...
-5 gold for cost of food
You wake up and walk out of your room to find Tear wearing a large black cloak.
"So wutcha think?"
-
>Is she otherwise recognizable?
-
>Is she otherwise recognizable?
It has a hood to cover her face and a slit in the back for her wings. Totally unrecognizeable.
-
>"Hmmm. Not bad. But if they make you take it off, then you'll be in trouble. And they'll want to get a good look at your face before they take you in. We need to do a few things, I think. Definitely need to do up your hair a bit, make your face look a bit different. Change up your figure a bit, too. Hmm..."
-
>"Hmmm. Not bad. But if they make you take it off, then you'll be in trouble. And they'll want to get a good look at your face before they take you in. We need to do a few things, I think. Definitely need to do up your hair a bit, make your face look a bit different. Change up your figure a bit, too. Hmm..."
"How would you go about doing this? I'm not willing to disfigure myself for this."
-
>"What, no. Give me some credit. We'll need some cloth, and you'll need your loosest clothes. Just a little work and we'll make you look dumpier. Preferable some you want to get rid of, because you're never gonna be able to wear them again. As for your face, some good use of make-up can accent it differently. And your hair, that's easy enough to mess with."
-

"Let me see what I have."
She flies back in her room and reappears a few seconds later with a handful of clothes.
"I have this tattered jacket, ugly scarf, shawl, and ripped skirt. Will that do? As for makeup, I can roll in the dirt to make me all grimy. That'll help with the whole thief image."
-
>Grin.
>"That'll be perfect. I'm also thinking we can pin some old cloth inside your clothes, make you look like you got a paunch and big hips. Maybe do up your hair a bit different, how do you feel about braids?"
-
>Grin.
>"That'll be perfect. I'm also thinking we can pin some old cloth inside your clothes, make you look like you got a paunch and big hips. Maybe do up your hair a bit different, how do you feel about braids?"
"That'll work. Let me get some more cloth."
She flies back in her room and reappears with an old blanket.
"Braids? O-ok"
-
>"Not too many, though. We want you to look sorta recognizable. Hmm..."
>Glance at Teer's wings. Are they distinctively marked or patterned?
>Also get to arranging and cutting up that old blanket whilst pondering.
-
>"Not too many, though. We want you to look sorta recognizable. Hmm..."
>Glance at Teer's wings. Are they distinctively marked or patterned?
>Also get to arranging and cutting up that old blanket whilst pondering.
I'm gonna start using the > thingies :V
>"Ok then, you're the boss."
>They look butterfly shaped, but with patterns like a dragonfly's.
>Using your rusty knife, you do some deep thinking and cutting.
-
>"I don't know anything about faerie cosmetics, so don't kick me if I'm wrong or saying something stupid, but do you have a way to mess with the patterns on your wings a bit?"
>Work on pinning the cloth inside the disguise clothes, so that it would make tier look a little fat. Not hugely so, just enough that one wouldn't see her figure and think of the thief. Also make sure the pins won't show on the outside, or stab Teer while she is wearing it.
-

>"Yeah....No. That's not happening."
>Tear now looks like thieving scum.
>"Hey, that's some good work you did there."
-
>"No worries. Most people wouldn't pay attention anyways. And thanks! I think this is about ready."
-
>"No worries. Most people wouldn't pay attention anyways. And thanks! I think this is about ready."
>"Shall we go, my partner in crime?"
-
>"By all means. Oh, as a word of warning, we might have to cut that shrine maiden in on the take if she catches us."
-
>"By all means. Oh, as a word of warning, we might have to cut that shrine maiden in on the take if she catches us."
>"We could always stop by the shrine and make a "donation" with a request not to come by the village today, but that's your choice."
-
>"That'd just be more suspicious. Not even sure if she spends a lot of time around the village, anyways. Anyways, let's get going."
>Do so once the final bits of the disguise are done.
-
>"That'd just be more suspicious. Not even sure if she spends a lot of time around the village, anyways. Anyways, let's get going."
>Do so once the final bits of the disguise are done.
>"Kay, lemee just put on the finishing touches."
>You two head out of the tree and Tear starts rolling on the ground, getting dirt on herself. When she gets up, her face is grimy and pretty unrecognizeable.
>"Let's go!" she says as you two walk to the village.
-
>Do we have anything to bind her up with?
-
>Do we have anything to bind her up with?
I'm just gonna give you the whole inventory and you can try and use your imagination:
>Inventory:
1 broom
1 broken clock
1 strange key
38 gold coins
10 nails
3 lengths of string
7 pieces of colorful cloth
1 cart
1 tent
1 rusty knife
1 teddy bear
1 knee boots
1 leather gloves
1 funny hat
1 bucket
1 flyer
15 mushrooms
5 charms
1 Mumbai
1 pillow
-
>How strong do the strings and lengths of cloth seem to be?
>How good are we at knot tying, anyways?
-
>How strong do the strings and lengths of cloth seem to be?
>How good are we at knot tying, anyways?
>They look strong, but are somewhat weak. Which may work for you.
>Average-ish, you know your basics.
-
>"Okay, let's see if we can get this binding done right. Don't want anyone to see us. You ready?"
>Presuming so, bind her hands with the string or the cloth, whichever seems stronger. Leave her a little slack.
-
>"Okay, let's see if we can get this binding done right. Don't want anyone to see us. You ready?"
>Presuming so, bind her hands with the string or the cloth, whichever seems stronger. Leave her a little slack.
>"Yeah, but slow your horses there. First, before anything, you convince scary lady that she forgot her charms. Then, we put on a show in the village, where you heroically catch me in the act, then bind me. I'll hang around in the forest near the village until you're ready."
-
>Nod.
>"That's a point."
-
>Nod.
>"That's a point."
>Tear points forward.
>"There's the village up there, I'll stay here so no one sees me. You meet up with Keine and Reimu and get everything sorted out. Then when the miko leaves, we make some money."
-
>Nod, and head for Casa de Keine.
-
>Nod, and head for Casa de Keine.
>You leave Tear behind and enter the village.
>You head for Keine's house and knock on the door.
>Keine anwsers and says, "Good, you're here. Reimu has already arrived."
-
>"Good, good, May I come in?"
-
>"Good, good, May I come in?"
>"Of course."
>She steps out of your way and waves you in.
-
>Enter!
>"So, how'd it go yesterday?"
-
>Enter!
>"So, how'd it go yesterday?"
>"I'd say it went well. She got confused, then angry, then really confused, then really angry."
>"Now if we send Reimu in, then you, we'll have probably got her."
-
>Nod.
>"We never did figure out, what should I claim to be delivering?"
-
>Nod.
>"We never did figure out, what should I claim to be delivering?"
>"I'd go with the broom, because she's always burning them up. Maybe we should throw in something weird to really trip her up?"
-
>"Naw. Weird means she's more likely to clue into things being fake. The broom's a good idea."
-
>"Naw. Weird means she's more likely to clue into things being fake. The broom's a good idea."
>"Ok then. Let's go to her house, she's in right now."
>Reimu: "How are we going to put the charms back in the house if she's already sitting in there?"
-
>"Well, she'll have to answer the door, right? If someone was already in there."
>Glance toward Keine.
>"It would be nothing for her to place them while the target is distracted."
-
>"Well, she'll have to answer the door, right? If someone was already in there."
>Glance toward Keine.
>"It would be nothing for her to place them while the target is distracted."
>"You want me to break in and put the charms back while you distract her with the broom?"
-
>"You shouldn't need to break in, you're friends, right? Just go visit like a half hour before I arrive."
-
>"You shouldn't need to break in, you're friends, right? Just go visit like a half hour before I arrive."

>"She's actually in the village shopping for food right now."
>Reimu: "I'll go thank her for the donations."
>She gets up to leave.

>"Well then, it's just an issue of when you want to go, and how much time you want before I follow?"
-

>"Whoa there! Those are some mushrooms! Good job with those. You've got a real career as a gatherer."

-
>"Five each was the agreed upon price, as I recall."
-
>"Five each was the agreed upon price, as I recall."
>"Ah that's right, good memory."
>"So that's 65 gold coins for you."

>Back to Keine's.
>You go back to Keine's house since a suitable amount of time has passed.
>Upon arrival, Keine opens her door before you can knock.
>"Ok, Reimu says it went really well. Mokou was pretty confused."
>"I met up with her in the market, and I'm going to her house pretty soon."
-
>"Right. I'll give it about 15 minutes?"
-
>"Right. I'll give it about 15 minutes?"
>"Sure. Try looking around the village some more while you wait."
>With that, Keine leaves and heads off.

-
>"Sorry, just still kinda on edge."
>Hand the thief over to his associate.
-
>"Sorry, just still kinda on edge."
>Hand the thief over to his associate.
"Very understandable."
>The associate takes Tear and walks off with her.
>"Now if you would join me in my office, I'll get you your much-deserved reward."
>He gestures to the official-looking building.
-
>"Of course, lead the way."
-
>"Of course, lead the way."

>Vendor used Prayer!....The move failed...
-
>Well shit.
>Quick, stay cool!
>"...What a waste of tomatoes. What's next on the docket for her?"
-

>"But you don't need to worry about politics, your part is over afterall."
-
>"Grand theft?! What did this guy take? He gets a day or two to get a defense set up, right?"
-
>"Grand theft?! What did this guy take? He gets a day or two to get a defense set up, right?"

>"Defence? That's for people who have a chance at innocence. Not to mention that no one will defend this thief."

>"I don't know why you're acting like this, you have your reward."
-

>"This is just the way things work here in the village."
>"In fact, I don't want you to be here much longer seeing as how you aren't a citizen. This sort of thing is gruesome and I don't want to damage your mind."
>"With all due respect, I ask you to leave the village for the rest of day."
-

-

-
>"And why exactly can't you allow it? Are you insinuating that I am unable to comprehend how a basic trial works?"
>"I'm saying that you are not a part of this village, regardless of your capture."
>"Now would you like to leave, or would you like somebody to throw you out?"
-
>"Oh, that's easy to fix. Make me a proper citizen. Besides, if you have justice on your side, what do you have to fear from a trial?"
-
>"Oh, that's easy to fix. Make me a proper citizen. Besides, if you have justice on your side, what do you have to fear from a trial?"
>"This is the last time I'm going to ask. Please leave the village now."
-
Gonna let others get in on this, before I ruin it all.
-
>How about leave and order Mumbai to free Tear? Unless it would be too obvious and Mumbai is too visible for them. If they didn't notice Mumbai at all, would our war doll be able to pull this thing off?
>How does asking Marisa or Alice for help sound like?
>Either way! "Fair enough" Bow and leave. We do NOT want a war with the village.
-
My plan was to buy time as the defense, and bust her out overnight. Also, I think Mumbai is a defense drone. That said, worse comes to worst, Mumbai means we can do fun drastic stuff like break the mayor's nose.
I think the trick is going to be to appeal right to the people. Because if we can't solid snake this; and if they don't wait until the end of the day, we don't have much of a chance to solid snake it; we're going to have to convince the people at large to spare her and turn on the mayor.
-
Uhhh... Is there any final command?
-
> Was Tear bound in the cage at all?
-
> Was Tear bound in the cage at all?
>Nope, just locked up.
-
roll a dice, toss a coin... I don't know. Don't they want to execute her in some way RIGHT now?
-
From what it seems, we have a little bit of time. But not enough to do any real sneaking in the way of finding the key and stuff. If we let ourselves get thrown out, we're pretty much going to have to storm the place or pull out the public speaking skills; and taming an angry mob is gonna be a hell of a trick.
Alternately, we could leave, hide, wait for the kangaroo court to begin, and do a dramatic reveal, and try to calm the crowd that way. It'd at least put them in a setting where they have to listen to us.
-
Any final commands?
-
Patience, we need to think this through.
-
I do believe the little Kirisame witch ain't on good terms with the village and she wouldn't mind a little wrecking on her own.
Also they said : >"He took many objects from the village. Not to mention striking fear into the hearts of the villagers."
>"Defence? That's for people who have a chance at innocence. Not to mention that no one will defend this thief."
>"There are dozens of eyewitnesses that saw the crimes occur. He'll be gone before sunset tonight at the latest."
That means we do not have time for a night sneaking as they want to execute her right now.
I don't see any other way then: a) wreck our status in the village.
b) ask someone powerful and hated around here to wreck it all for us.
We can't ask Keine, because we commit a fraud. It's kinda hardish... Ok, Purvis, I can give you a free hand here, but mind what I just told. Staying here will just make us locked up and lose the reward as well.
-
I"m thinking, if we can sway the populace, we can save our status and get away with things.
That said, might not be a bad idea to hide the money first. They can't take what they can't find.
-
That said, might not be a bad idea to hide the money first. They can't take what they can't find.
Good idea. run and hide the cash quick, then return... But what next?
...
MAYBE LET'S ASK KEINE. Ask her that she make Tear have a proper trial and such. To prolong her captivity so that we can rescue her later.
-
Yeah, that might be the best idea, as far as time buying goes. Which is going to involve confessing and such. And maybe a little bribe...
So do we want to violence the mayor on the way out? =D?
-
No. The village might still be a good place for our merchant deals.
so!
do we decide on such a version:
1. We leave the mayor.
2. We find Kaine.
3. We say that it is unjust that the thief doesn't have a fair court.
4. We wait for her just judgment and prolong the execution
5. We run away from the village and hide the gold.
6. We come back at night to save tear.
That's fine?
-
Quick question, what if the mayor will reduce her sentence if we just find all the stuff she stole and give it back? Of course I guess that all depends on if she still has all of it and if the mayor is done being a jerk.
-

You are aware that includes stealing the broom from Mokou and all the SDM stuff,... I prefer to fight the whole village then that.
-
To be fair, we didn't do anything sinister at the SDM. That said...Keine knows who the thief is. So she is going to know we're running a con game; if nothing else she will very quickly learn it was us that turned Tear in.
-
oh, shi-
Purvis, I leave you the decision. We did enough spam :P
-
(Wow, such a long time since I posted here. Good thing I was following along!)
Umm...... I think... uhh... maybe scare the villagers away and break Tear out of whatever she's locked in? What do you guys think? Can it work? I don't know anymore! :fail:
-
Alright. The plan is this: Leave. Hide money somewhere in town. Approach Keine. Try to weasel out of returning the money if necessary. Get her to delay things. Ninja this shit up come nightfall.
Fake Edit: Huh. Could do. Regardless, the first few steps are the same.
>"I suppose I have my reward. And may you get your own."
>Depart.
>Consider terrain, both in town and out of town. Do we know if any good hiding spots?

Something tells me that this'll take too long. We're gonna have to improvise soon.

Alright gang, we have a few options.
A. We fight it out. Which, unless we're secretly also Youmu, we're gonna get owned.
B. Pull a runner, and Benny hill this shit til we lose them.
C. Bribery
D. Lie like madman.
E. Impassioned appeal to their humanity.
Honestly, D looks like the option. If nothing else, it won't take more time than any other option. And if it works, we might get some helper big guys.
-
... how about trick Mokou into helping us?
She's pretty confused, so we might just pull it a bit further
-
Can we access Mokou? The way it seems, she's in town.
-
Can we access Mokou? The way it seems, she's in town.
Mokou lives in the forest near the village, not inside.
-
So what do you think, Smoku? Try to get Mokou's help, or try to appeal to their basic humanity?
-
So what do you think, Smoku? Try to get Mokou's help, or try to appeal to their basic humanity?
I vote Mokou's help.
-
Only problem is it'll cost us more time. Talking it through won't take more than five, ten minutes.
-
if you got a good idea of the talking then be my guest ^^

>Do you wish to proceed with party time?
-
>PUNCH 'EM IN THE DICK! PUNCH 'EM IN THE DICK! MOTHERFUCKERS TALK SHIT YOU GOTTA PUNCH 'EM IN THE DICK!
>Presuming this causes him to double over, deck him right in the nose next. Splatter it good, and make his vision go blurry.
>Likely these things will drop his jaw. Uppercut it next and make his teeth sing.
>We'll play it by ear from there.

>Presuming this causes him to double over, deck him right in the nose next. Splatter it good, and make his vision go blurry.
>Likely these things will drop his jaw. Uppercut it next and make his teeth sing.
>We'll play it by ear from there.
>You punch him and he does double over.
>You sock his nose and make it bleed.
>And you do get a chance to uppercut.
>He falls backwards, hands on face and privates, moaning in pain.
>For a big guy, he was kinda a glass jaw.
>And you do still have that magic doll, although that wouldn't have been as fun.
-
>Oh yeah!
>Let the doll knock him out.
> Massage hand
>Consider looting him, realize he's just trying to get by. Now the mayor...
>Head toward the explosion.
-
>Oh yeah!
>Let the doll knock him out.
> Massage hand
>Consider looting him, realize he's just trying to get by. Now the mayor...
>Head toward the explosion.
>Mumbai springs into action and hits his forehead with the handle of her lance.
>Dude is now knocked out.
>Massaging your hand, you direct your rage towards the mayor.
>You head toward the explosion in town square.
>There is a crowd standing in a large circle around the center of the square. You can see something going on through a gap.
>You see the cage blown open with Tear still in her disguise standing in front of it.
>She looks dumbfounded.
>You can also see the dude's friends passed out on the ground.
>You make eye contact with her.
-
> Quickly motion for her to GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE.
-
> Quickly motion for her to GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE.
>You make the motion and she nods in understanding.
>She says something to a person who is blocked from your view by a citizen.
>She runs toward you and the citizens quickly move out of the way.
>You can then see that she is followed by the homeless teen you met earlier.
>Tear is running toward you with the teen following her.
-
> Get outta there.
> "Pleased to see things went okay after that mistake we made."
-
> Get outta there.
> "Pleased to see things went okay after that mistake we made."
>The three of you run away from the village, it's a while before you stop.
>"I know, I have this guy to thank for that."
>She motions to the homeless teen.
-
>Nod, then face the homeless kid.
>"Um, thank you. I'd offer you some money as thanks, but after the last time I did it, I get the feeling you don't need it."
>Angle toward where we stashed that money.
-
>Nod, then face the homeless kid.
>"Um, thank you. I'd offer you some money as thanks, but after the last time I did it, I get the feeling you don't need it."
>Angle toward where we stashed that money.
>Homeless kid: "You were nice to me in the alley. You gave me a coin. I wanted to pay you back for what you were cheated out of."
-
high five, Purvis.
>"Thanks a lot, uhm... What's your name?"
-
>"Thanks a lot, uhm... What's your name?"
>"Rook."
>"Did you not notice what the mushroom man did to you?"
-
>"No. Should I brace myself?"
-
>"No. Should I brace myself?"
>"When he paid you, he left 10 coins off. You had 15 mushrooms correct? And you sold for 5 each. You do the math and he gave you 55 when he should've given 65."
>"I was hiding when I saw the conversation. I stole the 10 coins from him later because he did not deserve them."
>"Then I saw you later, and you were kind enough to give me a coin. You had a good heart, so I gave you back the money."
-
>He says to the guy who just grifted the town for a hundred times that much, plus property damage.
>"Huh, that explains it. Well, I kinda left the coins in the alley, wasn't doing that to get a payback. Tell you what, though, think I'm going to have to undercut the hell out of that mushroom guy. And since you seem like you need the money, I'll hook you up with some in a bit."
-
>He says to the guy who just grifted the town for a hundred times that much, plus property damage.

>"Actually, I was hoping for something more."
>"I now know that your freind is wearing a costume, so he won't be recognized by the villagers. and you were too far off for anyone to recognize you. But I was there, and people saw me. They know me and are probably out to get me now. I can't go back."
>"Right now, I am truly homeless, and I would find it a great mercy if you would let me live with you."
>Rook bows his head in respect.
-
>We have room to spare, right?
>"Hope you like living in a tree. It needs insulating real bad."
-
>We have room to spare, right?
>"Hope you like living in a tree. It needs insulating real bad."
>How conveinient! There's an empty room.
>"I would be honored to live with you."
>His head is still bowed, but you see a tear drop off his chin.
>The sun is setting.
-
>"Take him home and get him fed, Teer. I need to get something first..."
-
>"Take him home and get him fed, Teer. I need to get something first..."
>Tear: "Okeydokeyday!"
>She leads Rook down the path to the tree house.
-
>Get that bag of cash, post-haste.
-
>Get that bag of cash, post-haste.
The one in your cart?
-
>What? We hid our money bag somewhere, didn't we?
-
>Get that bag of cash, post-haste.
>What? We hid our money bag somewhere, didn't we?
>Derp, the parser is an idiot.
>You go back to the tree with the bush and find that the money if still there.
>You pick up the money again.
-
>Hurry home.
-
>Hurry home.
>You hurry on back home since it's getting dark.
>On arrival, you find a envelope in front of the door.
-
>Read it

>Read it

-
> Pick up and examine it first.
>Read it
>The envelope is fairly standard, white and rectangular.
>It is sealed with a wax stamp, with the initials A.M.
>You open it up.
>It reads:
Vendor,
I have need of your services once more. For my latest project, I have need of special plant ingredients.
1. Cherry blossom petals from a tree near the Netherworld.
2. Grass blades from atop the Youkai Mountain.
3. Flower from underground that has grown near the Blazing Fires.
4. Suzuran
5. Bamboo cut under a full moon
6. Celestial peach
7. A plant grown in the sky that has never experienced soil.
8. Sunflower from the Garden of the Sun.
I do not expect these ingredients anytime soon. Whenever you gather any of the ingredients, bring them to me. You most likely do not know where most of these locations are, but I will periodically be able to send you a message through Mumbai, who will guide you to the area.
Most locations are well out of your accessible range. It will either take much traveling, or a new means of transportation to locate them. When all have been collected and given, rest assured that your reward will be substantial. I will be busy and you will not see me until you have finished this task.

> Impressed whistle.
> Head inside.
>The parser laughs at his evilness for #8.
>You let out a long whistle. That's some list.
>You walk inside the door to find Tear throwing her disguise that is now off at Rook, who is sitting on the floor, back to Tear, covering his ears.
>Tear: "How dare you?! I am a lady!"
-
> Sigh.
> "What happened?"
-
> Sigh.
> "What happened?"
>Both stop and look at you.
>Tear: "He was doing inappropriate things to me!"
>Rook: "I thought you were a guy."
>Tear: "That makes it ok?!"
>Rook: "Not like that. I thought she was a guy, so I tried to get her out of the costume."
>Tear: "You were touching me in strange ways!"
>Rook: "It's a little difficult to get a cloak off when you have wings!"
>Then the arguing just goes on like this...
-
>"I am going to channel my rage and manifest extra arms. And then I'm going to strangle both of you at the same time. Because I am certain that neither of you started getting dinner ready when you got home like I implied you should."
-
>"I am going to channel my rage and manifest extra arms. And then I'm going to strangle both of you at the same time. Because I am certain that neither of you started getting dinner ready when you got home like I implied you should."
>Tear: "Relax, I always take care of the food in this place."
>Rook: "I'm not ok with living here for free off your food. You are a vendor correct? I want to work for you."
>Note: Having another mouth to feed around here will make daily cost of food 10 gold coins.
-
>"You've earned it for awhile, so don't worry about it. We'll find something for you to do. Anyways, toss that disguise in the fire, Tear."
-
>"You've earned it for awhile, so don't worry about it. We'll find something for you to do. Anyways, toss that disguise in the fire, Tear."
>Tear: "Kay."
>She walks over to the fireplace and throws the disguise on it.
>Rook: "I still want to help out. I can offer my services as an errand boy. If you need to pick something up or make a delivery or anything of the sort, I can do it for you."
-
>Show him the list.
>"Know anything about these?"
-
>Show him the list.
>"Know anything about these?"
>"No, never heard of any of them before. The streets don't really have much in the way of formal education"
-
> "Hmm. What about you Tear? Any clue about these?"
-
> "Hmm. What about you Tear? Any clue about these?"
>"A few places stand out. I've heard of the mountain, but never went there."
>"Fairies almost never go to the suzuran fields beacause they're supposed to be really deadly."
-
>"... Great..."
>Sigh
>"How would you intend to make a living here, Rook? Tear offered this home. And she can cook. She helped me quite a lot and helps all the time. You too, I agree."
>Recall "errand boy"
>"Hmm... there might be something for you.."
What'cha think, Purvis? Have him buy mushrooms from Marisa and sell to grandpa in the village from time to time instead of us? Make him vendor stuff to SDM and the village too? We shouldn't appear in the village for a little time, I think.
-
I think we ought to appear in the village the next day, to prove our innocent, and forestall bounty hunters and such. Right now, our only charge is self defense. Also, no more selling to mushroom guy. Next time we undercut him and sell them ourselves. >=[
Making runs to SDM to see if they want anything would be a good use for him.
-
>"... Great..."
>Sigh

>"I can do minor things for you. If you need to deliver a package or a message, I can go for you. If there's something to pick up, I can do that. Just think of me as an employee."
-
>"Right, you know the way to the mansion? Go check there for me tomorrow morning, let me know if there are any orders."
-
>"Right, you know the way to the mansion? Go check there for me tomorrow morning, let me know if there are any orders."
>"The mansion? I'm not familiar with this place."
>"I don't know this area, so I don't any locations. But I have a good memory and once I learn where it is, I'll be able to remember it."
>"Perhaps I can accompany you for a while to learn all the locations before being able to do it on my own?"
-
> "That sounds like a good idea. Once I get you all situated and comfortable with my clients I'll be able to start making some headway on that list. I'll take you to the Mansion tomorrow to start with."
-
> "That sounds like a good idea. Once I get you all situated and comfortable with my clients I'll be able to start making some headway on that list. I'll take you to the Mansion tomorrow to start with."
>"Thank you."
>He bows his head.
>"Also, where should I sleep?"
-
>Direct toward the empty room, or if it is not suitably furnished, wherever linens are stored so he can mock up a sleeping bag.
-
>Direct toward the empty room, or if it is not suitably furnished, wherever linens are stored so he can mock up a sleeping bag.
>"Thank you."
>He gets up and goes into his new room.
-

> Head for bed.
-
> "Hah... I'd say thats enough for today. Need to get some rest after all the crazy stuff that went on. See ya in the morning Tear."
> Head for bed.
>"G'night."
The next day...
-10 gold for cost of food
>You wake up and walk out of your room to find Rook and Tear already up.
-
>"Mornin'. Any bounty hunters?"
>Enjoy some breakfasts.
-
>"Mornin'. Any bounty hunters?"
>Enjoy some breakfasts.
>Both of them turn to look at you.
>Tear: "Nope."
>Tear plates you up and you enjoy the breakfasts.
>Tear: "Have any plans for that list?"
-
> "I'll probably hit up Alice's place today or tomorrow in order to get some of the locations for the stuff she wants. Before that though I wanna make sure that Rook knows where our clients live so that he can sell while I look for the stuff."
-
> "I'll probably hit up Alice's place today or tomorrow in order to get some of the locations for the stuff she wants. Before that though I wanna make sure that Rook knows where our clients live so that he can sell while I look for the stuff."
>Tear: "M'kay."
>Rook wolfs down the rest of his breakfast.
>"Ready to go?"
-
>Once breakfasts are finished. "Alright, let's go. I'll introduce you to Meiling."
>What'd we sell her, anyways? Knitting supplies?
-
>Once breakfasts are finished. "Alright, let's go. I'll introduce you to Meiling."
>What'd we sell her, anyways? Knitting supplies?
>Nails, I believe.
>Rook walks over to the door.
-
>To SDM!
>Wasn't there some knitting stuff, too?
-
>To SDM!
>Wasn't there some knitting stuff, too?
> *parser looks through 3 pages of thread* Aha! Sewing needle and spool of thread.
>You and Rook leave the tree house and lead the way to the SDM.
>While walking, Rook speaks up, "So what is the mansion like? Have you been inside?"
-
>"Yeah, once or twice. It's..."
>Gesticulate for a moment.
>"...Mansiony. Big. Lots of maids."
-
>"Yeah, once or twice. It's..."
>Gesticulate for a moment.
>"...Mansiony. Big. Lots of maids."
>"That sounds....remarkeably typical."
>"What do we do once we arrive?"
-
>"Generally, ask Meiling if they need anything. Sometimes she'll leave us a letter, but it's better for business if we make personal appearances."
-
>"Generally, ask Meiling if they need anything. Sometimes she'll leave us a letter, but it's better for business if we make personal appearances."
>"Meiling. Got it. Hey look, is that it?"
>He points ahead to the SDM, which can just be seen in the distance.
-
>"Meiling. Got it. Hey look, is that it?"
>He points ahead to the SDM, which can just be seen in the distance.
>"Sure is."
>Approach!
-
>"Sure is."
>Approach!
>The two of you approach the front gate.
>Meiling is sitting on her stool, arms crossed. Her head perks up when she sees you approach.
>She stands up and waves.
>"Hiiiiiiiiiiiiii!"
-
>"My dear gatekeeper, how are you this morning? Allow me to introduce Rook, he'll be working with me."
-
>"My dear gatekeeper, how are you this morning? Allow me to introduce Rook, he'll be working with me."
>"Oooooooooooo. A worker? You have been a busy little bee all this time."
-
>Giggle
>"And how are you and the mansion?"
-
>Giggle
>"And how are you and the mansion?"
>"It's been well around here. Not much really goes on."
>"Anything interesting with you?"
-
>"Eh, a few small things. Nearly broke the nose of the mayor in human town. Got one of his goons, instead. Business has been good, so I should be able to cover a lot more of your needs these days. Oh, did you darn up anything with those sewing supplies I got you?"
-
>"Eh, a few small things. Nearly broke the nose of the mayor in human town. Got one of his goons, instead. Business has been good, so I should be able to cover a lot more of your needs these days. Oh, did you darn up anything with those sewing supplies I got you?"
>"Sounds like fun."
>She smiles warmly.
>"I'm in the middle of a project, but almost finished. It'll be ready tomorrow for you."
-
>"I'll definitely have to come by tomorrow. Guess you'll be doing something else, Rook. Speaking of coming by, has there been anything needed here?"
-
>"I'll definitely have to come by tomorrow. Guess you'll be doing something else, Rook. Speaking of coming by, has there been anything needed here?"
>"I'm sorry, but the mansion has no needs right now."
>"I'll talk and see if I can arrange another get together for you."
-
>"Mildly disappointing, but you've given me reason enough to visit tomorrow, and that's all I really need. Now, while the mansion may not need anything, what of you?"
-
>"Mildly disappointing, but you've given me reason enough to visit tomorrow, and that's all I really need. Now, while the mansion may not need anything, what of you?"
>"Me? Well, what do you have?"
-
>Show her the stock.
>"Not as much rotation as I would have liked, but...the last couple days were a bit hectic. But really, i was hoping you'd have a specific request."
-
>Show her the stock.
>"Not as much rotation as I would have liked, but...the last couple days were a bit hectic. But really, i was hoping you'd have a specific request."
>"Sorry to hear that."
>She inspects your stock.
>"Hmmmm...Not really much standing out. I don't really have anything to ask for. Sorry."
-
>"You make it hard to entice you with a discount. But I understand. Maybe tomorrow I'll have something better."
-
>"You make it hard to entice you with a discount. But I understand. Maybe tomorrow I'll have something better."
>"I look forward to tomorrow then."
>"Now if you excuse me, I have to get back to my duties."
-
>"Naturally"
>Bow. Hope Rook will too.
>Meiling's going to just laze of now, eh...?
>Leave.
>Check inventory list.

>"Goodbye!"
>You walk off and once you are out of sight and earshot, you check your inventory.

>What is my knowledge of the items from Alice's list?
Me, as if me, Smoku, know that ALL of those are so dangerous to acquire that it's sick. Does the Vendor know that too?
>You have little knowledge of what the ingredients are, much less how dangerous it is to get them.
>The only thing you know is that the suzuran fields are dangerous from what Tear told you.
-
>So it's time to ask of such ingrediants to someone wiser and more experienced.
>off to Marisa.
-
>So it's time to ask of such ingrediants to someone wiser and more experienced.

>You walk off in the direction towards Marisa's.
>Rook: "Where are we going now?"
-
> "We're going to visit a friend of mine who is well-versed in magical items. I'm gonna see if she can help me with the list."
-
> "We're going to visit a friend of mine who is well-versed in magical items. I'm gonna see if she can help me with the list."
>"I see. Is there anything I should know about her?"

-
>"She's a witch. A pretty cute one too. Apart from that, she's very powerful. Ever heard of the name Marisa Kirisame?"
>"A witch? Can't say I've ever heard of her. Don't they steal children and eat them?"
-
>"What? No! No. ...Maybe. No! Certainly not!"
-
>"What? No! No. ...Maybe. No! Certainly not!"
>"So you're saying she's a saint and doesn't steal anything?"
-
>"That's a logical fallacy, my boy, and I'll thank you not to make it again. She's good people. Maybe not as nice as Meiling back there, but good people."
-
>"That's a logical fallacy, my boy, and I'll thank you not to make it again. She's good people. Maybe not as nice as Meiling back there, but good people."
>"Ok ok, I get the message. Is that the place? It looks kinda junky."
>He points to the clearing in the forest where Marisa's house is.
-
>"That's the place. Be polite to her, I may send you on errands to her alone some times in the future"
>Proceed.
-
>"That's the place. Be polite to her, I may send you on errands to her alone some times in the future"
>Proceed.
>The two of you walk up to the house, junky as ever.
>Before you even knock, you can hear, "Just a sec, ze!"
>Marisa opens the door and looks at you.
>"What do we have here?"
-
>"This is Rook, he's working for me. Rook, this is Marisa."
-
>"This is Rook, he's working for me. Rook, this is Marisa."
>Rook: "Pleased to meet you."
>Marisa: "Yeah, yeah. Why are you here? Want some 'shrooms?"
-
> "Actually I was hoping you could hook me up with a map or something so I can find some of these ingredients in this list."
> Show her the list.
-
>"Speaking of 'shrooms, you know about some older guy who gathers these?"
-
"Yeah, yeah. Why are you here? Want some 'shrooms?"
this TOTALLY sounds like a dealer xD
> Do not mention the fact that the list is from Alice.

>Also hope Alice's handwriting isn't distinctive.
>You show the list to Marisa.
>"Peach, bamboo, yadda yadda, sky flower? Looks like quite the list."
>"A few of thse ingredients shouldn't be that hard, the bamboo could be done in 3 days. That's the next full moon."
>"I'm pretty busy these days, but I can give you some directions to the bamboo forest if you want."
>"An old guy? Can't say I've heard of him."
-
>Nevermind the old guy
>"Oh? directions? I'd be happy to know then and I'd do that myself. What about the rest of the ingredients?"
-
>Nevermind the old guy
>"Oh? directions? I'd be happy to know then and I'd do that myself. What about the rest of the ingredients?"
>"Let's see....You'd have to find a way to the Underground for the Blazing Fires flower."
>"I don't know where the suzuran fields are. You should ask around for that."
>"You'd need to get a celestial for that peach."
>"You'd need to find someone or thing to take you up the mountain."
>"I really doubt your abilities to go near the Netherworld, so you should get help for that."
>"The sunflower shouldn't be too hard. Just find the field and pick one."
>"The sky flower sounds like a riddle. Good luck with that."
-
>"Is there a possibility you could get me some of those ingredients, mighty witch? I can do you a favor, you know."
-
>"Is there a possibility you could get me some of those ingredients, mighty witch? I can do you a favor, you know."
>"Sorry, I'm way too busy do do these things. I'd like to help, but I really have to get going right now."
>Besides, that would be too easy. :P

Suggestion: We tell Marisa about Mushroom guy; let her get a shot at undercutting him herself. We get mass respect AND revenge for doing practically nothing. And if she's not interested, we get to do it ourselves guilt free.

Final command?
-
>"So, you know there's a guy in the village that sells those mushrooms you made for ten golds each?"
-
>"So, you know there's a guy in the village that sells those mushrooms you made for ten golds each?"
>"I made? No no no. You found a mushroom growing around here and my cloning spell went bad. I just have an abundance of these things that grow around here."
>"Ten gold? That seems to be a bit much. Then agian, I sell 'em cheap cause I have too many."
-
>"I made? No no no. You found a mushroom growing around here and my cloning spell went bad. I just have an abundance of these things that grow around here."

>"Kay. And for the bamboo forest, head west of the village and you can't miss it."
>You leave and she hops on her broom and flies off.
>Once you are a little distance away, Rook speaks up.
>"The bamboo. Think we should get it in three days?"
-
>"Probably ought to. Might not be a bad idea to find out what it's like right now, too. Maybe put some money down on it."
>Do we have anything else that needs to be done today?
-
>"Probably ought to. Might not be a bad idea to find out what it's like right now, too. Maybe put some money down on it."

>"Since we're in the neighborhood, I'll introduce you to Alice. She's another customer, and the one who gave us this list."
>Alicevard!
>You set off for her house.
>"Alice. I see. Anything special about her? Anyone who want's this list isn't exactly the most ordinary person."
-
> "She is a magician who seems to specialize in magic pertaining to dolls. Reliable ol' Mumbai here is a testament to that."
-
> "She is a magician who seems to specialize in magic pertaining to dolls. Reliable ol' Mumbai here is a testament to that."
>"Dolls? Why would she need plants, let alone ones like the ones on the list?"
-
> "Not quite sure. She might be experimenting or they might be components for a spell that she uses regularly."
-
> "Not quite sure. She might be experimenting or they might be components for a spell that she uses regularly."
>"Sounds complicated. Magic is probably past my understanding."
>"Oh hey, a house."
>You and Rook walk into the clearing with Alice's house.
-
>"Be polite to her as well"
>Knock on door.
-
>"Be polite to her as well"
>Knock on door.
>You knock on the door and have to wait several minutes before a doll holding a sign anwsers you.
>The doll floats up to eye level with you and turns the sign so you can see it.
>The sign reads, "Plants?"
-
>"Uhm... no, not yet."
>"Uh-oh... Alice might be sick in some sort of way. so she needs those things for an antidote or something"
>this raises the priority of the job...
-
>"Uhm... no, not yet."
>"Uh-oh... Alice might be sick in some sort of way. so she needs those things for an antidote or something"
>this raises the priority of the job...
>The doll goes back inside and almost slams the door the door. But not quite.
>"Why didn't she say she was sick if she needed the stuff as soon as possible?"
-
>"I have no idea. Or maybe it's some kind of embarrassing magic anomaly that changed her"
>shrug.
>"Anyway, let's leave. We gotta try finding the items."
>But first explore the bamboo forest as intended.
-
>"I have no idea. Or maybe it's some kind of embarrassing magic anomaly that changed her"
>shrug.
>"Anyway, let's leave. We gotta try finding the items."
>But first explore the bamboo forest as intended.
>"Whatever you say."
>You set off for the bamboo forest.
>Once you leave the Magic Forest, you get onto the path that leads to the village.
>"So if you're a vendor, where do you get all your stuff from?"
-
> "I sometimes find some neat stuff just lying around, but I also get some things through providing services, such as finding the stuff on the list, or through trading an item with a customer. Tear also found some stuff for me but... I'm kind of questioning the legitimacy of the find due to yesterday's happenings."
-
> "I sometimes find some neat stuff just lying around, but I also get some things through providing services, such as finding the stuff on the list, or through trading an item with a customer. Tear also found some stuff for me but... I'm kind of questioning the legitimacy of the find due to yesterday's happenings."
>"I see. And if I were to find something lying around, I should pick it up?"
-
>"If it doesn't belong to anyone then sure. Bring it along if it might be sold. But don't be like tear. She took stuff people just temporarily left for a minute lying about."
-
>"If it doesn't belong to anyone then sure. Bring it along if it might be sold. But don't be like tear. She took stuff people just temporarily left for a minute lying about."
>"So things like this?"
>Rook pulls out a pair of scissors.
>"I found them while walking through the forest."
-
>"when did you..."
>"Uh, yeah. something like that. They weren't right next to someones house or... inside of it now, weren't they?"
>"If not then yes. things like that."
>Add scissors.
-
>"when did you..."
>"Uh, yeah. something like that. They weren't right next to someones house or... inside of it now, weren't they?"
>"If not then yes. things like that."
>Add scissors.
>"Street smarts," he says with a grin. "No, just found them."
> +1 pair of scissors
>"There's the village off in the distance. We should probably change our course right now."
-
> "Yeah."
> Are there any roads that go around the village?
-
> "Yeah."
> Are there any roads that go around the village?
>There's a path that leads around to the side entrance, but that path splits off from the main one close to the main entrance.
-
>Try to get around the village as best as we can. We must avoid it.
-
>Try to get around the village as best as we can. We must avoid it.
>You walk around to the side of the village, giving it a wide berth.
>Once there, you see the forest again, but with bamboo shoots spread thinly about.
-
>Have a look around; in particular for bamboo shoots.
-
>Have a look around; in particular for bamboo shoots.
>You look around the area; there are the normal trees and bushes around. Futher in, you see the trees get thinner and the bamboo gets thicker.
>The shoots around where you are look young and short; deeper in would be the tall, stong variety.
>Rook walks around and inspects the area.
>"Found something." He holds up a wooden mallet from a bush.
-
>"Good work, Rook,"
>Take the mallet.
>"Keep an eye out for some good bamboo shoots. They'll be good for somebody's dinner."
-
>"Good work, Rook,"
>Take the mallet.
>"Keep an eye out for some good bamboo shoots. They'll be good for somebody's dinner."
>"Yup."
> +1 wooden mallet
>"Like these?" He gestures to some very nice looking shoots next to the bush where he found the mallet.
>"Cut them?"
-
>Examine their food quality and nod if they look like good eatin's.
-
>Examine their food quality and nod if they look like good eatin's.
>They look like good food quality shoots.
>You nod.
>Rook quickly goes to the cart and pulls out the rusty knife.
>"Would it be a bad idea to use this?"
-
>"Use the scissors instead. They're probably cleaner."
-
>"Use the scissors instead. They're probably cleaner."
>"Kay."
>He puts the knife back in and pulls out the scissors.
>Rook goes back over to the shoots and starts cutting. It takes a while, but he manages to hack down 10 shoots.
> +10 bamboo shoots
-
>Try to recall if Mystia had bamboo shoots on the menu. Look around some more.
-
>Try to recall if Mystia had bamboo shoots on the menu. Look around some more.
>You don't exactly remember, she did have the lamprey; which wouldn't need oil....
>After looking around, you come across a generic-looking brush.
> +1 brush
>"Think it's time to go deeper in?"
-
>Nod.
>Make it so.
-
>Nod.
>Make it so.
>You walk deeper into the forest, Rook by your side.
>The trees quickly become replaced entirely by tall bamboo.
>The bamboo is somewhat thin now, but you can see it gets really thick a little more in.
>"Up ahead, we're not going to be able to get very far in bamboo that thick."
-
>"Doesn't look like it. Lessee if we can't get more shoots. And remember where they are, the stuff grows back like mad."
-
>"Doesn't look like it. Lessee if we can't get more shoots. And remember where they are, the stuff grows back like mad."
>"You're the boss. I can remember where they are, my memory is pretty good."
-
>"Great"
>Wait till Rook is done
>Scan the surroundings while he's busy.
-
>"Great"
>Wait till Rook is done
>Scan the surroundings while he's busy.
>Rook goes back to look for more shoots.
>You are completely surrounded by bamboo, getting thicker as you go deeper in. You can see trees if you look back. The ground is plain brown dirt, with the occasional flower. Above, you can still see the sky.
>Rook comes back holding four more shoots.
>"I think that's all we'll get for now."
-
>"Good"
>What's the time?
-
>"Good"
>What's the time?
>Slightly after noon.
-
>Calculate how long it would take to get to Mystia's Love Shack from here.
-
>Calculate how long it would take to get to Mystia's Love Shack from here.
>Maybe 30 minutes.
-
>Which way leads deeper in? Move perpendicular to that, so we skirt along the edge, still.
-
>Which way leads deeper in? Move perpendicular to that, so we skirt along the edge, still.
>West leads deeper in. Mysia is to the south. Head that way?
-
>Have we any clue what lies north?
-
>Have we any clue what lies north?
>Haven't explored there yet. So no.
-
>Go north!
-
>Go north!
>North it is!
>You head north, Rook following behind you.
>The bamboo continues, but doen't get any thicker.
>"There a reason we're wandering in a forest we haven't been in before? Or is it a hunch?"
-
>"Bit of both. Mostly I just want to know what's out here. Just keep your eyes open for things."
-
>"Bit of both. Mostly I just want to know what's out here. Just keep your eyes open for things."
>"You're the boss."
>You walk in silence for a while before happening upon a clearing about 20 feet in diameter.
>Rook walks out to the center of it and observes the ground.
>"This ground was burned a while ago."
-
>Have a look around for evidence of a cause of this fire, or a purpose for it.
-
>Have a look around for evidence of a cause of this fire, or a purpose for it.
>You take a look around for some evidence.
>The burn spot itself is a perfectly circular shape.
>Upon some searching, you find a set of footprints, drag marks in the dirt, and a cigarette butt.
-
>Examine the drag marks.
>Does there seem to be much left over from the fire. Ash, for instance? Burnt out remains of things?
-
>Examine the drag marks.
>Does there seem to be much left over from the fire. Ash, for instance? Burnt out remains of things?
>The drags marks lead to the west, deeper in the bamboo. They look as if something heavy, but not particularly hard was dragged through.
>The ground in the grove is plain dirt, but in the circle, it looks like the dirt was scorched, not particularly ashy. It's not very black, but it looks faded; which probably led Rook to assume it happened a while ago.
-
>"Guess it's too late to do anything about this, except maybe follow those drag marks..."
-
>"Guess it's too late to do anything about this, except maybe follow those drag marks..."
>"If you wanna..."
-
>Let's do so
-
>Let's do so
>You follow the trail deeper in the forest.
>It appears that there's a clear path from the clearing deeper in.
>You go further into the forest until you come across a huge clearing with a very large looking house.
-
lol
>Anyone around?
-
>Anyone around?
>Nope, the place is deserted.
-
>Nope, the place is deserted.
>approach the house and knock
-
>approach the house and knock
>You go up to the front door of the house and knock on it.
>After a few minutes, there's no reply and you notice a piece of paper on the ground.
-
>Read the paper.
-
>Read the paper.
>"Out for business.
Back in 3 days."
-
>Is there a date on it, to tell us when these three days might be?
>Examine house.
-
>Is there a date on it, to tell us when these three days might be?
>Examine house.
>Nope.
>The house itself looks somewhat normal, built in traditional-looking style. It's made of wood, but painted a dark blue color. There are windows along the side of the building.
>Upon examination, you find a few locked shacks around the side of the house.
-
>Peek into the windows.
-
>Peek into the windows.
>You look in the windows. It's pretty dark, but you can make out some shelves with jars on them.
>"Oh man, we're gonna get caught."
>Cue the cliche'd sound of a snapping twig off behind you.
-
>Look toward the twig.
-
>Look toward the twig.
>You turn around and see a rabbit youkai.
>The rabbit looks at you, looks to the broken twig under it's foot, back at you, then turns around and dashes off.
-
>"Hey, lady! Wait up, we came for a visit!" yell.
>"After her, Rook" and run for the youkai bunny.
-
>"Hey, lady! Wait up, we came for a visit!" yell.
>"After her, Rook" and run for the youkai bunny.
>The rabbit is out of sight before you can yell, but maybe she still heard you.
>"Yessir!"
>You and Rook run to chase the rabbit, but by the time you get to the edge of the clearing, it's obvious that the rabbit is long gone.
-
>Sigh
>"Too bad... What was that place anyway..."
-
>Sigh
>"Too bad... What was that place anyway..."
>"No idea. But it's starting to get dark now."
>Rook is correct, the sun has started its decent into the horizon.
-
>Make a course for Mystia's Shuckin' Shack.
-
>Make a course for Mystia's Shuckin' Shack.
>You leave the bamboo forest and get back on the path to go to Mystia's.
>"You're getting the late-night munchies?"
-
>"Just going to try to unload these shoots."
-
>"Just going to try to unload these shoots."
>"Oh, ok. What's the person like?"
-
>"Susceptible to flattery."
-
>"Susceptible to flattery."
>"I see. Well, I'm used to that."
>Up ahead on the road is Mystia's stand.
-
>Head into Mystia's Unabomber Shack; take stock of what is going on inside.
-
>Head into Mystia's Unabomber Shack; take stock of what is going on inside.
>You and Rook enter her stand; she has her back to you and is working the grill. No one else is inside right now.
-
>Is there a menu? Get a quick look at it.
-
>Is there a menu? Get a quick look at it.
>There is not.
-
>"Good evening, Mystia."
-
>"Good evening, Mystia."
>She stands up straight.
>She starts talking as she turns around, "Welcome customers~"
>Mystia puts on a big smile with her eyes closed, but once she opens them, her smile wavers.
>"Oh, can I get something for you?"
-
>"Why the sudden loss of humor, angelic voice of the forest?"
-
>"Why the sudden loss of humor, angelic voice of the forest?"
>Her eyes widen, but she looks away.
>"I was expecting someone else."
-
>"Oh, I hope I'm not interrupting, then. You see, I was traveling around earlier today and I found something that might be of interest to a chef of your caliber. "
>Present the bamboo shoots.
-
>"Oh, I hope I'm not interrupting, then. You see, I was traveling around earlier today and I found something that might be of interest to a chef of your caliber. "
>Present the bamboo shoots.
>"Bamboo? Well I haven't cooked that before. I guess I can try."
-
>"If anyone could do something interesting with bamboo shoots, I imagine it would be you."
>Quick, what did they go for in the village market?
-
>"If anyone could do something interesting with bamboo shoots, I imagine it would be you."
>Quick, what did they go for in the village market?
>"Oh you."
>You don't know. You didn't really observe their price, or if there were any even there.
>"I'll cook them up for you then."
-
>Damn lousy market research. What sorts of things did we observe while exploring the market?
>"Actually, I was thinking you might be interested in making a special of them."
-
>Damn lousy market research. What sorts of things did we observe while exploring the market?
>"Actually, I was thinking you might be interested in making a special of them."
>The average fruits and veggies are the only things you can recall.
>"Are you proposing a business deal?"
-
>Bamboo shoots should be average for this culture ;_;
>"Of course. How does two golds a piece sound? I'll let you have three for five."
-
>Bamboo shoots should be average for this culture ;_;
>"Of course. How does two golds a piece sound? I'll let you have three for five."
>It's probably because other food is easier to grow and is in greater demand.
>"One a piece in the future, and I'll pay 10 for the three now. Plus, I'll throw in free dinner for you and your scrappy-looking friend here."
>Rook balls his fists at his mention, but Mystia doesn't notice.
-
>"Two a piece and we struck the greatest deal of all times"
-
>"Two a piece and we struck the greatest deal of all times"
>"Fine. You still interested in dinner? I bet your pet over there would like some."
>Rooks starts shaking, but Mystia doesn't pay him any attention.
-
>"I am! And he isn't my pet."
-
>"This would be Rook, he's my assistant, and I think you owe him an apology."
-
>"I am! And he isn't my pet."
>"This would be Rook, he's my assistant, and I think you owe him an apology."
>"Oh! A slave! Good for you. Helps to have someone do dirty work. Sorry for mistaking it."
>Mystia turns around and starts grilling the lamprey.
>"Now would Crook want some food? Be sure not to get his mange anywhere, I follow health standards."
>Rook says nothing but walks around to the back of the cart.
-
So, break the deal? I'm thinking break the deal.
-
So, break the deal? I'm thinking break the deal.
Oh God yes. At this point in time it can only end horribly for Mystia and we don't need Rook getting a notorious reputation.
-
Oh God yes. At this point in time it can only end horribly for Mystia and we don't need Rook getting a notorious reputation.
I say stay with the deal but do a little sabotage to raise Rook's reputation... let's say, put a fire at Mystia's and have him save her or something. Unless... You got better business deals on your sight.
-
Mystia is chump change compared to SDM. Also I doubt Rook would be down with going out of his way to get basic recognition as a person.
-
So we break the deal. Deal? (dohoho, a pun...)
-
>"You know, I think I've had a change of heart. Good day, Mystia."
>Turn and leave.
-
>"You know, I think I've had a change of heart. Good day, Mystia."
>Turn and leave.
>"No dinner?" she says meekly as you leave.
>Once out of sight, Rook walks to the cart and tosses the knife in. When did he?... Right, street skills.
>"I was ready to have a real good dinner if she kept talking."
-
>"Didn't take you for the stabbing vagrant type. Ah well, I bet we can get something good for these at the mansion tomorrow."
-
>"Didn't take you for the stabbing vagrant type. Ah well, I bet we can get something good for these at the mansion tomorrow."
>"You don't judge a person for where they came from. You judge who they are and what they made of themselves."
>"Don't ever ask me to go back there cause I won't."
-
>"Yeah, we're done with Mystia in the foreseeable future, and I fully intend to give support to any competitors we find."
>How much time have we to wander around?
-
>"Yeah, we're done with Mystia in the foreseeable future, and I fully intend to give support to any competitors we find."
>How much time have we to wander around?
>A little time, if you wanna hit up something close to home.
>"That bird makes me ill."
-
>"Shows what those health standards of her's are worth, doesn't it?"
>What is close to home that we know of? Alternately, anything unexplored close to home?
-
>"Shows what those health standards of her's are worth, doesn't it?"
>What is close to home that we know of? Alternately, anything unexplored close to home?
>Rooks laughs dryly.
>Close to home would be:
Alice's
Marisa's
Stream
Cave
Clearing
>And you've pretty much explored all these.
-
>Do we know of any rivals of Mystia's? No Mokou's fried chicken stand? :P
-
>Do we know of any rivals of Mystia's? No Mokou's fried chicken stand? :P
>No, but that would be good. Only 1 flavor, Extra Crispy.
-
>"Maybe... just maybe... we might make a stand of our own..." think loudly
-
>"Maybe... just maybe... we might make a stand of our own..." think loudly
>Rook says nothing.
-
>"Or at least bankroll it."
>Walk by whatever feature is on the way to home. Should it be a house, wave to the occupant if we see 'em. Otherwise just keep aware for shinies.
-
>"Or at least bankroll it."
>Walk by whatever feature is on the way to home. Should it be a house, wave to the occupant if we see 'em. Otherwise just keep aware for shinies.
>Rook still says nothing.
>On the way would be the clearing, so you swing by there.
>Inside, there's no one around, but there are a few flowers growing.
-
>examine the flowers
-
>examine the flowers
>The flowers look like they're red camelias, in full bloom.
-
>Go home for the evening.
-
>Go home for the evening.
>You go back to the tree house for the night.
>On arrival, you find a note in front of the door.
-
>Read note.
-
>Read note.
>The note reads:
If I am told you've been seen trying to break in my clinic again, I will end you.
-
> Frown.
> "Well so much for good first impressions."
-
> Frown.
> "Well so much for good first impressions."
>"What is it?"
-
>Let him see the note.
-
>Let him see the note.
>Rook takes the note and looks it over.
>"Eesh, that's not good."
-
>"I wonder how they knew where we lived?"
>Enter Loghaus.
-
>"I wonder how they knew where we lived?"
>Enter Loghaus.
>Rook shrugs.
>You enter the house to find Tear playing with a.... dagger.
-
>"Good evening, Tear. What's that you have there and where did you get it from?"
-
>"Good evening, Tear. What's that you have there and where did you get it from?"
>"Oh," she says, turning to look at you. "I got a knife."
>The dagger isn't exactly a knife, its sides are wavy and it has cloth wrapped around the handle. It looks extremely polished and at the bottom the handle, there looks to be a large white stone, held in place by metalworking that looks like a claw.
>"Found it."
>Rook procedes to facepalm.
-
> "Did you happen to find it near any largely populated areas or close to where someone was doing something?"
-
> "Did you happen to find it near any largely populated areas or close to where someone was doing something?"
>"I was in the forest doing stuff when I heard something in the tree above me. I looked up and saw someone dressed funny, who jumped out and ran away. He dropped this and the thingy too."
>She pulls out a sheath that is presumably for the dagger.
>"I tried to give it back, but he was already gone, so I kept it."
>Rook pulls his hand away from his face to give a worried look at you.
-
>Check the knife for identifying marks.
-
>Check the knife for identifying marks.
>You take the knife from Tear.
>It looks polished clean, no scratches, or anything.
>Rook: "Tear, do you have any idea what could've happened?"
-
>Worried look, let them chat. Rook seems wise enough to teach Tear
>Be proud how Tear learned that stealing is wrong.
-
>Worried look, let them chat. Rook seems wise enough to teach Tear
>Be proud how Tear learned that stealing is wrong.
>They grow up so fast.
>Rook gives you a look of reassurance,
>Tear: "Ummm... something?"
>Rook facepalms.
>Rook: "Tear, this knife is not just meant for cutting. When someone has a blade like this and they're lurking in shadows, their goal is to hurt you. Do you realize what would've happened if you hadn't seen him?"
>Tear: "Ummm... something bad?"
>Rook: "Close enough."
-
> "Well... This day just keeps getting better and better doesn't it?"
> Sigh.
-
> "Well... This day just keeps getting better and better doesn't it?"
> Sigh.
>Tear: "Yep."
>Rook: "So what do we do?"
-
>"Describe the person, Tear. How was the person dressed? What gender could it be? anything interesting?"
-
>"Describe the person, Tear. How was the person dressed? What gender could it be? anything interesting?"
>"Well, he was kinda shortish, around my height. I'm not actually sure what gender he/she/it was. He was dressed with a big brown rag wrapped around his head so you could only see the eyes. The rest was a tan cloak thing. And his eyes bugged out when I saw him. It was kinda funny."
-
>"What the hell.... Also we must go back next time to that bamboo forest hut and apologize for this misunderstanding"
>Time of day?
-
>"I guess that'd be the bounty hunter I was expecting."
>Look at the knife again.
>"This sure is a killing people knife, in any event."
-
>"What the hell.... Also we must go back next time to that bamboo forest hut and apologize for this misunderstanding"
>Time of day?
>Rook: "Maybe a gift or a peace offering would be in order."
>Nighttime.
>"I guess that'd be the bounty hunter I was expecting."
>Look at the knife again.
>"This sure is a killing people knife, in any event."
>Rook: "And it looks pretty expensive in any event."
>Tear: "So what now?"
-
>"We... keep it and sell it one day. And you two, be on your guard all the time... we might be targeted people now"
>Hit the bed, rest.
-
>"We... keep it and sell it one day. And you two, be on your guard all the time... we might be targeted people now"
>Hit the bed, rest.
>
>"Kay."
>everyone goes to their rooms and sleeps for the night.
Next day.....
-10 gold for cost of food
>You walk out of your room to find Tear and Rook already up, doing nothing in particular.
-
>"So, comrades... what do you think would make a good gift from what we have here...?"
-
>"So, comrades... what do you think would make a good gift from what we have here...?"
>Rook: "Maybe they'll want the dagger back?"
>Tear: "Teddy bear."

>Facepalm
>Check my wares

>"... Better. Let's go with the wares and offer our wares and an explanation. It's not like we did anything wrong"
>Eat breakfast, pack stuff, take Rook with us.
>"... Hmm... Tear? Do you know how to defend yourself? Against aggressive people?'
-
>"... Better. Let's go with the wares and offer our wares and an explanation. It's not like we did anything wrong"
>Eat breakfast, pack stuff, take Rook with us.
>"... Hmm... Tear? Do you know how to defend yourself? Against aggressive people?'
>Rook: "Offer an explanation to who?"
>Tear: "Yeah, I can shoot danmaku!"
>Tear jumps up and shoots a few skimpy bullets toward the door, but they most fizzle out before reaching their target.
-
>"Explanation to the people we have intruded upon, who took us for thieves, from that bamboo shack. Remember the bunny girl? Surely some entity lives there since they know where we live. We have to clear our names. There might be profit in that as well."
>Sigh at Tear.
>"Tear, you have any more powerful friends then you?"
-
>"Explanation to the people we have intruded upon, who took us for thieves, from that bamboo shack. Remember the bunny girl? Surely some entity lives there since they know where we live. We have to clear our names. There might be profit in that as well."
>Sigh at Tear.
>"Tear, you have any more powerful friends then you?"
>Rook: "Well last time we went, there was no one there, and we got in trouble."
>Tear: "Yeah, why?"
-
>"Let's try anyway"
>To Tear "Maybe wanna invite them over for protection? I'm worried about your safety"
-
>"Let's try anyway"
>To Tear "Maybe wanna invite them over for protection? I'm worried about your safety"
>Rook: "If you're sure, then I'm ok with it."
>Tear: "I'll be fine."
-
>HOLD IT!
>Screw that unabomber cabin in the woods. We got Meiling to visit. She's got stuff for us. Or so she claimed.
-
So go to SDM?
-
Unless someone else got timebased plans.
-
... true. go SDM
