Title: Anime USA 2010: November 12-14
Post by: UncertainJakutten on September 17, 2010, 11:06:35 PM
IT'S GETTING CLOSE TO THE USA OF ANIME :O! In CRYSTAL CITY! ON NOVEMBER 12-14!

ARE YOU A BAD ENOUGH DUDE AND/OR DUDETTE TO GO TO ANUSA!?

Cause I am.

I plan to have:
Maid Mikuru
JIMANG! (as Savant)

For cosplays.

It's coming. For reals (http://animeusa.org/)

Yaaaaaaay

I'm also planning to go! I'm currently looking at airfare prices, and I'm really depressed that I'm probably gonna pay less for a plane ticket than I am for the hotel...

I will have the Yuuka cosplay with me, hopefully spruced up a bit from the more bare-bones version I had for my last con in May...

The state of the matter stands as such: I'd really like to go, but I started working my current position at the beginning of August. I'm not sure if my supervisor will simply give me two days off, or if I could earn the time back, or what-have-you. I really like the place I'm working at (my only gripe is that it's away from most of my good friends and a number of relatives), so I'm not going to bite the kind hand that feeds and I'll be gentle throughout the entire situation. I'll be testing the waters soon, but I won't know for another month or so.

tl;dr: You'll know when I know whether or not I'll be asshole enough to disrupt your reduced hotel rate.

Assuming I do go, I'll take it a bit easier this con. 1 new assembly-only costume plus something Touhou. 4 costumes and 3 props was a little nutters, not to mention annoying for everyone I traveled with, which is something I didn't want to accomplish.

OH GOD IT'S COMING AND I HAVE NO MONEY OR MY NEW COSTUME DEAR GOD THIS WAS PLANNED BADLY!

Well, I still have 6ish weeks but...ugh...well, I hope I can find the energy to ~*~work~*~. I at the least probably need like, $50 for Jimang. Not to mention the debts I've racked up by being lazy. What...~*~fun~*~. Assuming I get back to actually doing shit next week I should be fine though.

Should be finding out soon whether or not I'll be able to go. The other temps have missed time with no repercussions, so I should be OK, especially considering the OT I've worked and time I've made up for family business.

Aw, man! Biting the hand that feeds and lying to my dear sweet Mum just in order to go to a new place, have some fun, and socialize!

nice, yeah my friend decided not to tag along so I'll be flying solo to this one...

I might take you up on that since commuting by yourself via metro is quite a chore.

Let me pass it around everyone else, and I'll update you when I get a consensus.  We already have 6, but we did have 7 in our room for Otakon so it wouldn't be a first, it'll be a party.  I hope you won't mind.

Hate to double-post to bump this, but I'm still trying to get hotel arrangements done. While I recognize that it's probably too late to get anything but a room with strangers now, I'd really rather get a room with someone I know at least a little bit.

I'm really rather happy that you have room! My main concerns are in regards to payment method... Would you accept cash at the con, or would you rather I find a way to send you the money electronically?

We just lost 2 people in ours, so we have space too.

[Edit]  Basically it puts us at 4 people to the room so far, so it's not quite crowded yet.

Ah! My main concern was whether I'd be rooming with strangers or people I know, so it would come down to cost and convenience. I'm not against paying a little bit more to help out, though.

If 'Miz's room has only 4 in it right now, I would probably suggest rooming with them. We can still board you if something happens, but I doubt the price difference would be significant enough to not make the extra room worth it.

well I'm either going at this alone or not at all. I finally managed to find some friends to car pool with and they all backed out because they forgot it was this weekend or ran out of money...or both...
I don't really feel like doing the metro commute more than once so if I do go I'll probably drop by Saturday

AUSA was a complete success.  I was happy with the way my costumes turned out, and I'm mastering the whole short-wig-over-long-hair thing.  The Touhou panel was awesome, Jana arriving at the last minute was awesome, watching Robo Geisha was life-changing.  I think the totally-sloshed Aya could've shared some alcohol with the Hendane guys at the Visual Novel panel.

So, now that it's all over, WHAT'S NEXT??  X)

Had an awesome time hanging out with everyone every day, that smashed Aya also said some guys were trying to hit on him in whatever bar he was at.

Everyone has to see RoboGeisha.

Never seen the DC metro before, it kicks the shit out of the Philly metro by so much it's like a work of art.

Not eating at that Chinese place again, it gave Momiji and me massive headaches that prevented us from going to the Zoo to make Wild Thornberrys references all day. A tragically missed opportunity.

Really happy I brought my Yumemi costume since Jan got to make use of it, lol.

Room went well other than the mass confusion friday with random people no one knew in our room. (What the fuck)

The game room was pretty cool for how small it was!

Fiddling with getting PoDD multiplayer to be easy to play by not using the keyboards is uh... sort of still a work in progress, the 2nd player keys at really weird, probably need to find some sort of way to change the shot (left arrow) and bomb (right arrow) since they just refuse to register on the gamepad when we set it up in joy2key.

Lunch was cool, I think my Rikako came out well, Hotel internet sucks, other stuff happened and was fun and stuff.

Waiting to see what the cost of our Acen travel plans are from Silentsword. :3

Katsucon's in February, there must be others around here to go to in the interim.

Some other highlights, Mima and I running around the hotel halls in the middle of the night and making fart noises, some guy in the hotel lobby sitting with his dakimakura waifu early Thursday morning, the 3DO set up in the game room, lolis fighting an evil pedo Santa while dodging sperm danmaku (a.k.a. Deathsmiles II), all the Touhou people crowding into a small corridor so they can power their laptops while playing Touhou games, getting JoyToKey working with T98Next under Wine (holy crap) so we can play PoDD, getting Rickrolled in the Chilis' (and Jana getting drunbk), the elevators starting to malfunction Saturday and Sunday, and and and uh... yeah!

Also, Kilga's image thread on Pooshlmer (http://pooshlmer.com/wakaba/res/487974.html), and what few images I took (http://www.distant-mind.com/images/n1/AnimeUSA2010/).

Oh, where to begin? AUSA was a tale of:

- The absolute enigma that is CT-15 and the Merritt Parkway
- Adding way too much bass to Rick Astley, and then reminding me that yes, NGGYU is the only song of his anyone other than me knows >_>
- Crossdressing as a unicorn
- Jan taking 25 or 6 to 4 hours to arrive
- The Great Key Debacle
- The McRib
- Exploding multiple heads by dressing like a man and wearing long pants not once, but twice
- The mysterious disappearance of one con-goer for an entire day (and the exposure of a great hypocrisy of mine in the process)
- Successfully not freaking out a small group of high-school-age girls
- One of the greatest group lunches I have ever attended
- Nostalgiabombing with a GBA in a sea of DSes
- A 5-by-5 square of mushrooms and the havoc they wreak
- Giving Tewi the two-gun salute
- TOMITAKE FLASH
- The most unique panel I have ever attended
- Smiling at Death, Projecting at Divas and Darkening Perfection (but not Killing Pain)
- Planning for ACen despite it not being the next major con on the calendar
- Drawing to a six-of-a-kind right before the Delaware Memorial Bridge
- And a reminder that New Jersey is still the 51st-best state in the country.

TRIANGLES YOUR STATE FUCKING SUCKS I SWEAR TO GOD I WOULD NOT EVEN WISH THAT PLACE ON GOD'S ENEMA HOSE FOR FEAR OF HOW RUINED IT WOULD BE AFTER A MERE INSTANT OF CONTACT

Nah I'm kidding the Turnpike actually wasn't that bad. The air raid sirens at the Montvale Welcome Center were kinda weird though.

The 'Miz already posted a link to the thread I made on Poosh. More pictures will follow there eventually when I get unlazy.

Ahh that was one of the best AUSAs in recent memory, I don't think I've had that much fun since they left Tyson's Corner.
was happy I didn't have to commute at all since I found a friend that owes me one and I stayed in their room  :3

Looks like you guys had a blast at that lunch. Those pictures are pretty hilarious wish I was there, maybe I should make it a habit of waking up before noon.
I did have a ton of fun hanging out with you guys. That alcove next to the fitness room was pretty baller until we got kicked out. The Touhou Panel was great, I would have stayed around after to mingle but my wig was getting ungodly sticky by the end of the panel.

Gotta say though that ITG 3 cab in the game room was a pleasant surprise. I haven't had a chance to play Fleadh Uncut with a bar in a few years.

unfortunately I was plastered friday(Captain Morgan's 100 Proof spiced rum should not be sold by the handle... it's deceptively more alcohol than a room can consume) so I didn't take any pictures and I spent half of saturday in a skirt with out a pocket so I didn't carry my camera around so no pictures from me   :(

Katsucon's in February, there must be others around here to go to in the interim.
well Katsu is the next one on my list. After that the only things concrete is Otakon and NYAF. Although if MotK is going to have a strong showing at ACen I could use that as an excuse to leave the east coast for once  :D

A giant battlepost is approaching fast!
OH MAN FINDING THE LOST CAR KEY THREE HOURS AFTER I DROPPED $240 ON GETTING A NEW SET OF KEYS MADE BEST CON EVER
I remember mentioning that I thought the odds were high that the keys were merely lost in the room. Can't believe it came to pass like that.
AUSA was a complete success.  I was happy with the way my costumes turned out, and I'm mastering the whole short-wig-over-long-hair thing.
Feels good, don'nit? I think my Eirin will improve the instant I incinerate that wig.  :V
Watching Robo Geisha was life-changing.  I think the totally-sloshed Aya could've shared some alcohol with the Hendane guys at the Visual Novel panel.
IT WAS! I missed seeing Aya in that condition though. I think it would've been sorta fun to toy around with him. Also, the Hen Da Ne guys' VN panel was fun despite being a bit lacking in content. Probably because NO ONE CAN THINK AT 3:15 IN THE MORNING.
The game room was pretty cool for how small it was!
Didn't get to spend much time there, but the only times I got to sit down there I got some VS PoFV and some Death Smiles 2 in. Yay!
Waiting to see what the cost of our Acen travel plans are from Silentsword. :3
Yeah, I hope I'm not destitute by then so's I can join you guys. THANKS, ECONOMY!
- Adding way too much bass to Rick Astley, and then reminding me that yes, NGGYU is the only song of his anyone other than me knows >_>
I've only got a voice for base, not that anyone can hear it anyway. I was tempted to put Don't Stop Me Now or Piano Man on that sum'bitch.
- The mysterious disappearance of one con-goer for an entire day (and the exposure of a great hypocrisy of mine in the process)
Who?
- Successfully not freaking out a small group of high-school-age girls
- One of the greatest group lunches I have ever attended
I think these went hand-in-hand quite well. I was shocked that they were in tow, though. Why couldn't any of them been 5 years older?! My stock gripes aside, what a great group of kids.
- The most unique panel I have ever attended
Especially while fighting to stay awake.
- Smiling at Death, Projecting at Divas and Darkening Perfection (but not Killing Pain)
I missed out on a couple of those. I was too busy being with people half the time.
- And a reminder that New Jersey is still the 51st-best state in the country.
I never knew an inoperable brain tumor could be the size of a highway, either.
NGGYU is probably the only Rick Astley song I've heard since the '80s.  =/
I honestly didn't know he made other music that lasted enough to wind up on a jukebox. :ohdear: There's plenty of other stuff from the '80's that takes up too much space in my nearly empty head, though.

All in all, I wasted time I could've spent working and earning cash on insignificant garbage. I've got way too many things to do that I never should've put off thanks to you guys. I'm malnourished after subsisting on garbage for a weekend and I've missed some 10 hours worth of sleep over a brief period. I spent way too much time hanging around with you bunch of socially maladjusted weirdos and I'm sure that sort of thing will secure my social inadequacy.  Now, pictures of me doing inappropriate things with and to pretty much everyone but a single girl my own age have been put on the internet for everyone to see. Even when the stars align a off-chance a girl does take interest, our behavior seems to scare them away.

Man, that was fun. I love you guys.

Osh-  you would've probably heard me belting that out loudly.  Old karaoke favorite.  XD

I think it's odd that you guys consider my lateness and my... Ill-timed drinking highlights of the trip. :ohdear:

I actually got news of a possible chance to advance, so maybe I actually could travel again? It may be ill-advised, but I'd like to at least plan for the possibility (if I don't spend it all buying people I don't even care about Christmas presents, at any rate).

Don't Stop Me Now would have gotten us kicked out for peace disturbance, I assure you.

At least in my case, the reference to you was a double entendre that also referenced Sammy's obsession with the song all weekend.

Thank God I didn't suggest The Impression That I Get (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIGMUAMevH0) then. Still I wonder how many people would've recognized it since so few people recognize good music that's come out within the last 20 years.
