Title: The EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE Topic
Post by: チソウ タイゼン on January 26, 2011, 05:41:56 PM
The F thread is for failure
and the E thread is for awesome

in this thread,
AWESOME

like RNG based awesome or skill based awesome
note: cutscenes of nukes frying your face off or Limit Breaks doing 9999 damage do not count

Awesome: finishing SSBB Boss Battles run on Hard+
Not Awesome: defeating the first boss in SSBB Boss Battles on Hard
Awesome: scoring a game-winning kill with a pistol in an MOFPS
Not Awesome (sooooorta): scoring a game-winning kill in a game in which the opposition has zero points
Awesome: beating the Pokemon Champion with a Lv. 1 Aron
Not Awesome: beating the Pokemon Champion with six Lv. 100 Arceus(es)

of course since the definition of "awesome" is subjective post what you will

A while back, while playing FE9, Ike (or was it Oscar?) got like three critical hits in a row or something, and get a lot of EXP. I was quite elated and I wish I could borrow that game again because it's fun. =3

I also figured out how to defeat the Queen Gohma in Ocarina of time without letting it lay any eggs, which isn't *that* impressive but still!

Sure, I'll bite.

A preface: My character in Stuffman's 3.5e DnD game is a wild mage. We basically imported a lot of the 2e rules for her with a few changes of our own. The end result is I roll a wild number at the start of each game day and if I cast a spell, and roll said number for my level variation check, I end up causing a wild surge. Well, awhile back, said number was 20. Lo and behold, I roll a 20 on one of my spells. Now, when I wild surge, I roll 1d100 and the effect corresponding to the number on the wild surge list (which can be found in Stuffman's game thread for the interested). I rolled a 98.

The effect for 98 on the Wild Surge table: Treat the wild magic roll as a natural 20.

That was rather amusing.

Dissecting each and every way into an enemy stronghold in RA2 just to capture the entire thing without destroying a single building. Bum-rushing a base with prism or apocalypse tanks? All too easy. Escorting a dozen engies into a stronghold chock-full of things trying to kill you and capturing every last building without tearing them down? That takes finesse and patience, and I did that for nearly every last map of both campaigns for the main game and the expansion.

It had better of been Selvaria with the DLC weapon from behind or I'm calling bull.  ...Unless of course this was a 'more than one character used' thing and it was just a scout dealing the final blow...

Billy vs SNAKEMAN, a browser MMO. I was selling off some items on the player market, trying to make some money. Smoke bombs were going for 1600+ per(they have massive demand), I put like 200 up for 1000 each, they sell within 1 minute, they guy who bought them was so happy I sold low, he gave me items with a total value of over 1 million. The guy is on my friend list now, and I have gained plenty of stuff that has made playing easier after that, just cause of the cheap smokebombs.

Not sure if that's awesome, but I'm very happy about it

Posted this in the KOL thread but felt it needed attention since I have VISUAL EVIDENCE

So I'm trying to fight the Bonerdagon with the mind-control device to get his rib, and, seeing as how I'm a sauceror and he blocks skills, I get my ass kicked a ton of times. Looking around the KOLwiki, I find that hot beats spooky. So I equip the hot sauce grimoire, my spooky-resistant equipment, buff myself, and go in.

On the very first turn of the fight, this happens:

Gya ha ha, I just figured out how to trick Etrian Odyssey 3 and bypass its stupid idea of when it respawns rare fish spots. Normally, fishing in these spots makes it so you have to walk around in the labyrinth for a full in-game day to let them respawn, and even when they do the chances of the even rarer fish in these spots is close to nil. So I finally figured out through guessing that resetting after a failed fishing attempt during the sailing doesn't make you have to go through all that walking to respawn the fishes! \o/ The fact that it took fifteen minutes even with this to catch my desired fish shows just how ridiculously rare that king tuna was.

EDIT: Man, rereading this makes me realize how lame this whole sidequest is and how much time it takes to get out of the way. :fail:

In The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, I discovered that you can use the Tingle Tuner to avoid reclaiming the Hero's Sword at the end of the first Forsaken Fortress visit, and thus be swordless. (Explanation contains story spoilers.)

First, create a new save file, then once the prologue is over, save and quit. Then go to your main save file, activate the Tingle Tuner, and go down to Hyrule (the Tuner is deactivated in Hyrule, but stays turned on). Defeat Ganondorf and wait through the epilogue and credits, all with the Tuner still on. Once the game goes back to the title screen, open your freshly created save file. Even though you don't have it in-game, the Tingle Tuner will reactivate, and you can use it in your new save file. (Be warned, though, that if the connection is interrupted, you have to start the process over again.) Proceed through the game as you normally would (though I recommend using the Tingle Balloon and Bomb to reach and uncover the respawning 200-Rupee jar) until you reach the end of the Forsaken Fortress (where your sword is). Then, kill the Bokoblin guard with Tingle Bombs instead of picking up your sword (I can't remember if which side of the spike gate you're on matters, though). Go through the door, and after the cutscenes you'll be on Windfall Island, swordless!

Of course, I was an idiot and didn't save the game after doing this (:fail:), and I haven't tried it again to see how far you can progress without a sword.

HOLY HELL

Got Simon's Cloak in Castlevania: Harmony of Despair!
Holy shit
+3 STR +3 DEF +50 (!!!) HP!
Compare to Paludamentum, the next best cloak, which gives +2 DEF, +15 HP and +10 MP.
And compared to Simon's Plate which has +5 STR, whatever DEF, and + 30 HP.

how the hell does a cloak give more HP than a chestplate?

Oh, and this is all in a game where your default HP is 300 and equipment is the only way to change your HP and MP.
Running full Simon Gear I got 390 HP now!

Hell, the new Retro Gear and Fuma Gear are like ten bajillion times better than Simon's Gear now. Shit. More stuff to grind for.

Well, that ends it. 100% completion of Etrian Odyssey 3. This was...a very long and rewarding journey. It's a rare game that both offers so much and yet compels you to find it all. Playing it daily since Christmas, that makes this nearly a month and a half I've experienced this game. There were good times and bad, but when all is said and done, I am glad I went through with it all. As with EO2, I feel the need to thank those imaginary characters who made this possible. Feel free to ignore.

Gengetsu, my princess/gladiator-turned shogun/ninja, thank you. You were a kickass leader all through the game. Though you never dealt the most damage or had the best offense, your support and later versatality in attack made you an asset to the end. Plus, your ridiculously over-enthusiastic expression always made me laugh. :3

Sora, my monk/farmer-turned monk/buccaneer, thank you. Though you never were a lot of help in damaging enemies, your healing abilities were what kept everyone alive. You will never be as helpful as Rebecca was in EO2, but you were tons of help. So, thank you.

Erica, my arbalist/zodiac, thank you. Your boisterous attitude and shots are what propelled my team to victory, like they were shot from a ballista. :O In a decidedly defensive team, you were what made the health points actually drop. So, thanks for that.

Flandre, my zodiac/monk, thank you. Whenever there was a weakness to be exploited, you were there. Whenever there was a pie that needed devouring, you were there. Whenever there was a meteor shower, you were coincidentally there to see them fall out of orbit and onto the enemy. You are my everything. Expensive magnifying glass.

Aya, my wildling/hoplite, thank you. Though I was told you would be useless early on, I believed in you and you proved everyone wrong. Your binds crippled enemies in ways nobody else on the team was capable of, and your status ailments gave me the edge I needed, particularly confusion. Nothing quite beats watching the final boss smack himself for 230 damage per turn. 8D I was sad to see you go come post-game, but you will always be in my heart.

Onigiri, my post-game monk/buccaneer, thank you. For an old buzzard, you certainly packed a punch for those sixth stratum enemies. You certainly took advantage of the fact that most of the enemies had their skills bound to their head. :3 As with your pupil Sora, your faithful healing kept everyone alive. Thank you.

Cid, my post-game arbalist/zodiac, thank you. If it weren't for your amazing damage output, I would probably still be fighting the dragons. Dealing 2000-3000 damage per hit certainly made things go my way. :D You were also the only person who could target all enemies in my post-game team, which helped greatly against massive hoards. Thank you.

Desmond, my hoplite/prince, thank you. When my team switched to become more offensive, you handled all the defense. Your dedication to taking all the damage saved everyone else. You were also necessary to defeat the dragons, as without your anti skills everyone would be wiped from turn 1. Thank you.

Alice, my farmer, thank you. Obviously you never did much but gather, but you gathered very well. You always helped my team get a bit of extra cash when needed. And for that, you are possibly -the- most important member of the entire guild. Because what is fame without fortune? :capitalism:

Purvis, my farmer/wildling, thank you. I admit, I was shocked. When I recruited you to help with harvesting, I thought you were just a hick who picked things good. Little did I know you had THE POWER. When the elder dragon threatened all of humanity, I doubted my ability to defeat the fiend. Nobody would step forward, except you. Casually you entered into mortal combat with the fiend, and I couldn't believe what happened next - you one-shotted a fucking dragon god by summoning a tiger. THAT'S AWESOME. *kowtow*

Sakura, my shogun/farmer, thank you for the paradox. And the extra help with gathering. But mostly the paradox.

Simon, my gladiator/ninja, thank you. Despite the fact me only met today, I have much to thank you for. When faced with the overhwhelming might of the
Abyssal God
, I despaired it would take weeks yet to finish it off. But I was told there was a gladiator with a plan, and the plan was good, and you were the plan. When I saw you fell the ultimate evil with one blow, I was amazed. Thank you, over and over again.

And with that, the saga of guild Gensokyo (imaginative, I know) draws to a close. Until we meet again Etrian Odyssey~

Tales of the Abyss, in the Absorption Gate, fighting
Master Van
. The dude hits Luke with one of his Arcane Arts, which might as well be a Mystic Art, and is juggling Luke for massive damage.

Then Tear unleashes her Mystic Art in the middle of his attack. ANNIHILATES him, and we win. Luke is still alive with a sliver of his health. I had no idea he was even alive until the result screen came up.

Then make sure you take Eiriel's route or whatever her name is, or else she's liable to get screwed over by the RNG when she gets auto-leveled up to make up for the split routes.

Also Gilliam. Gilliam is a physical god. You could potentially beat the entire game with just him alone.

But Ephraim's route is more fun :< It has Ephraim. And better map music.

...And Gilliam? Really? Um... Yeah, no. I leave him out of the party always <.< I have no need of someone who on average doesn't get above single digits on Speed before promotion. Max-efficiency runs don't TRAIN your Peg Knights, though.
When trained* PKs are generally good anyway.

*This implies that the PK in question actually can be trained; see Thany and FE10 Marcia

Also, FE8 isn't a difficult game to solo thanks to Tower abuse...

It's impossible for a game to be more broken than FFTA and still be playable.

FE8's difficulty tends to come from having lots of low-power enemies swarming you, especially lategame.  Individually they're nothing to write home about but in large groups they don't ALL miss you.
Also, Shadowshot/Stone add a level of difficulty by themselves.

I thought you could only get A-support with one character per unit, tho.
Step 1: Don't get any supports at all during the main game, or at least until you have all characters.
Step 2: Save the game at this point on one file.
Step 3: Enter the first floor of the Tower of Valni, and wait for all C supports among the selected party to be formed.  Then retreat
Step 4: Re-enter, same party, get B supports
Step 5: Re-enter, same party, get A supports
Step 6: Save the game to a DIFFERENT file than the original one.  This tells the game's non-file-specific records that you got all of those A supports at some point.
Step 7+: Reload the original save, gather different A supports, and save to the secondary file each time.
Step Final: You now have 100% Support Library.

So long as you don't overwrite your original one, you'll unlock every support.  This also works for FE7, so long as you save at the chapter where you get Renault (The chapter before Dragon's Gate), instead of in the final one... but it's much harder to succeed in those instances.

EDIT: Maybe it's time for a Fire Emblem topic instead of hijacking this one?

Why are PegKnights so fragile?

Because promoted PegKnights can wreck an entire map by themselves, provided you play safe and keep them away from Archers.

Seriously, high natural crit, ridiculous mdef, spears and swords, full maneuverability, and loads of speed? The only thing better is promoted Wyvern Riders, because they have massive regular defense and buckets of HP to toss around.

Wanna know what's fairly fun? Doing an all-mounted-unit run. Only Troubadours, Peg/Wyvern Riders, Calvary, and the like. And of course the Lords, cuz they magically sprout a horse from their crotch upon promotion (and Ephraim is a living God)

Not so much of an RNG moment as much as an accomplishment, but I FINALLY finished Lyn's story and now I'm in Eliwood's story, Ch14. Doing good so far, 13x gave me a bit of a snag. Not so much of an RNG moment as much as an accomplishment, but I FINALLY finished Lyn's story and now I'm in Eliwood's story, Ch14.

What level did you get Nils up to before finishing Lyn's story? If you play through on Hard Mode for Lyn, and gain control immediately and whatnot instead of dealing with 'NO YOU HAVE TO GO HERE OR I'LL MELT YOUR GAME CARTRIDGE', and you can get Nils up over level 7, you unlock a bonus chapter later on... though I'm not sure if that's Hector's mode only or not :ohdear:

Either way, Nils and Ninian are seriously amazing characters to use, especially with their bonus stat skills.
(Also if you go through Lyn Hard, power level one of the Cavaliers and use the Knight Crest on them! Wallace isn't that great anyways, not compared to Oswin - even IF you max him out (somehow) in the tutorial and promote him at level 20)

Getting Boost Quality +3, Boost Effect +3, Narrow Range +3, Restrict Range, and Satisfy +3 onto a Tera bomb is surprisingly easy.

Too bad it's too late for me to get those 80 quality traitless Plogestions from Esty. Oh well, I can settle for partially broken. Besides, while it's fun making it and all, I'm more the kind that prefers to dispense one bomb per random battle, and therefore only really need Narrow Range +1.

Bonus Fight Orb for Yakuman Win.

Hit Lv21 Kouryuu rank :*

Last time I got a Kokushi Musou in that blasted Mahjong vidya game was 2007!

for those not in the know, Mahjong Fight Club games ranking system is like this:

10 Kyu <-- start here
...
1 Kyu
--- Enter Sacred Beast level
Sacred Beast 1 dan
...
Sacred Beast 9 dan
Sacred Beast Master
--- Summon Kouryuu
Kouryuu Lv1

Did this yesterday, but the forum upgrades held me off. I went to the local arcade and played DDR for the first time in months. I expected to be out of shape, but I fared much better than I thought I would. Surprisingly, whatever timing skills I had didn't seem to degenerate, as I scored a new SDG on B4U (Heavy, of course).

Got 14 out of the 15 medals in Company of Heroes' Invasion of Normandy campaign. Closing the Falais pocket at Chambois for the last mission was phenomenal, as was the whole game. Not to mention that storming the enemy base with a giant Pershing tank is a party in and of itself. It's a shame so many people just never caught on to it.

Threw the original Viewtiful Joe back into my PS2 earlier, and realised that I didn't have a save in Ultra-V Rated.  Well that wouldn't do!  ...So I started a new file on Ultra-V as Joe and proceeded to V rank (not Rainbow V, sadly, although half of my ranks were rainbow Vs and at worst were As) the first chapter within about an hour, after not playing VJ in at least two or three years.

Monster Hunter 3rd Portable: All the issues I've ever had with Freedom United, fuck 'em. 3rd Portable is so much better in so many different ways (with the exception to the gunlance changes, who the hell needs to reload their shells in the middle of firing? I'd much rather be able to unload all four of them in sequence instead of twirling the lance like a baton in the middle of attacking.) I now have roughly 8 different sets of high-ranking armor, all upgraded to either the maximum level or a level or two off from max, and several different high-rank blue or white sharpness weapons, also improved.

And finally... Crag shot light-bowguns are fun. There's nothing quite like making a Nargacougar go berserk within ten seconds of the fight, and making it jump around/get staggered/get dazed before your buddy who originally got you into Monster Hunter even managed to successfully land a hit on the jumpy bastard.

BOOYEAH.

I've beaten Mega Man Network Transmission in 1 hour 37 minutes (1 hour 41 minutes would be the official timing since manual timing for the final stage goes until no more input is required and there's some after-credits dialogue; but I landed the final blow at the 1:37 mark).

This isn't necessarily that long of a game - it is a Mega Man game afterall - but with all of the deaths and the fact that the game rewards players for going halfway into stages, retreating when they run low on lives, and then coming back later with the new chips, bought items, etc., and so there's no reason to accept (or ever recieve!) a game over... yeah, most people finish this game their first time with a total time of about 5 hours, with 3 hours being a relatively good one.

Right now I'm looking back and going "Hey that was... relatively painless compared to my expectations!", except my next job is to learn the game well enough to
A) do this faster (That 1:37 time includes several deaths, unnecessary actions, etc., that easily mean there's over 10 minutes to shave off of this time)
B) I also want to do it single-segment, meaning no saving.  This could be horrifying due to a bit of the luck I need for draws in the Zero Account and Undernet...

But for now?  So far as I know, I am the first person to have speedrun Network Transmission from start to finish.

Start recording and submit a better run to SDA.

Start recording and submit a better run to SDA.
This is actually my plan.  Even if I don't, I've been in contact with another runner who's wanting to do this (My suspicion is that he'll be tackling a Segmented run, and I'll be doing a single-segment).

Even though I'd like to, though, I can't actually do anything about it until later - I don't have any recording equipment until my tax return comes in!

EDIT: Speaking of Mega Man achievements, I've finished my Star Force 3 No Upgrades run after declaring
Jack Corvus v2
unbeatable.  Why?  Simple.  Below half health, he has a move that is unsurvivable unless you have full HP and a barrier active.  This takes a ridiculous amount of luck to reach this point anyway, nevermind having a barrier active at that point in time!  It can be done multiple times and there's no way in hell I'm going to be able to whittle down that much HP before he does it again, without some obscene luck.

So I've declared it done.  Even reaching that point was a huge achievement anyway, because after about halfway through, most stuff starts one-shotting you and you need a shitload of luck and skill to survive as is.

I'm gonna feel like a jerk, double-posting in an "I JUST DID AWESOME STUFF" thread, but

I just proved a single-segment (Meaning no saving, no gameovers, etc.) Network Transmission speedrun possible.

I didn't actually complete it.  But, I died fighting the final boss.  One minute later than my segmented run with a fair helping of luck manipulation involved.

Holy shit holy shit holy shit this is actually possible.

And plus, there's the matter that he's actually trying to do a single-segment speedrun of network transmission.
I've played that game a lot in the past.
It takes guts to try what he's doing.

I'd say that puts him on a similar level as those guys who speedrun japanese SMW romhacks.

I just beat Mega Man and Bass with just the buster (except the few spots where special weapons are absolutely required). The only thing I spent bolts on was buying extra lives for King Stage 2. It honestly wasn't that bad. Magic Man has an easy AI exploit, Pirate Man only has one hard attack, Dynamo Man just took practice, and most of the other bosses follow an easy pattern. The only really hard part was the tank boss... wow, that thing sucks.

I'd do it with Bass, but it would be pretty much the same thing but with longer boss battles. I might still try if I get bored, though.

We could but I think other people have already speedrun all the other MM games much better than I, at least, could ever hope to do.  I do want to speedrun other games, too (I may or may not do at least one of the Growlanser Generations games following this; we'll have to see!)

(Speaking of which I had a failed single segment attempt at NT this morning that was nine minutes ahead of my previous runs when it reached Zero, and then turned into a horrible wreck.  There is lots of improvement to be had).

I might have an idea or two for a speedrun you could do.

There's always trying to speedrun a Star Ocean game.
If that's not possible, you could try a Secret of Mana game.
Or a Persona/Shin Megami Tensei game.

But it's your call.
I'd speedrun 'em myself, but I probably don't have the patience for it.
But if anyone here could do it, you'd be one of the most likely candidates.

After killing Beelzebub in Castlevania: Harmony of Despair 275~ times(!) I finally nabbed my ninth Beelzebub soul for Soma.
And now I may unleash flies from hell that charge through enemies, pierce shields, hit five or six times for 80 damage each all for a cheap 15 MP.
Compare to my 8th Beelzebub soul which hit 4 or 5 times for 72 damage.

Against Beelzebub himself, I can hit five different parts of his body five times with one casting now, so it ends up in the thousands of damage for a few casts (even though Fish Head is better). Against Legion it goes through damn near the entire center of its shell for more damage than Fish Head can deal out, and it can be used at long range compared to virtually... Anything. The only thing that really beats Beelzebub's Soul is Legion's (for upwards of one hit of 600! damage and long range) Soul and Ryutsoki's soul (Three giant fists of close range that hit for 500~ damage without Intelligence setups)

And now that reminds me that I don't have any Legion or Ryutsoki souls at all. T_T

Sekai wa Sore wo Ai to Yobunda marisa was definitely the hardest finale song, but that might've been because of the extra option you could turn on in Ouendan 2.  I still remember freaking out when I maxed my score on that song (And then only got an A rank, not an S rank, somehow!)

Being a 2h Swordsman girl in Dragon Age 2 is made of this.  Especially being a "Renegade."  Anyway I was helping these mages out cause this guy, who I previously extorted three gold out of, needed my help.  And at the end of that part he helped me fight off other Templers.  The battle started and all the unnamed minions around him died after I smashed them and then whirlwinded.  Merrel had him Petrified and Bethany and Isabella handled the rest of the unnamed while me and the guy who hates me wailed on that guy.  Ahhhh...teamwork.

To celebrate my getting my Beelzebub soul maxed, I headed to Chapter 10 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGc2fks4tsc&feature=related) for a random run and I got a "Claimh Solais + 1 (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/InfinityPlusOneSword)" (That's literally what they call it; it's a direct upgrade to the vanilla CS with +6 more Strength, +3 more INT, +21 ATK and infinite more asskicking).
And then I randomly head to Chapter 9 and I get Alucard Sword + 1 on my first attempt.
And then I randomly start playing Chapter 10 again and 6 runs later I get another Claimh Solais + 1.

I had the best luck last night~

I've actually used the lance charge and hooked myself into a monster so I kept hitting it while running against it, not going anywhere. So long as the stamina holds out, you keep stacking damage.

Also, the thrust attack after a charge is the single most damaging lance attack.

This.  If you can do that against a monster, the lance becomes possibly the most powerful weapon in the game; it's just extremely reckless and likely to backfire if doing it on a monster that hasn't been knocked prone.

Because, there are only so few spots you can latch into, and have such tiny valid angles to hook into, that all you need to do is turn in either direction to push through it and pop out the other side. Otherwise, if it turns to face you (assuming you're jabbing into it from the back), it'll usually unhook you itself and set you free while it attacks the spot you were just standing in.

The best thing to hook into is the literal ass-end of a pelagus-type monster - Aoshira, Urukusu (or whatever they're called). Their butt is specially shaped for you to ram them from behind with your mighty lance :derp:

Supposedly, the best defense is a good offense.
But isn't 370 POW kind of excessive?
I grinded to Lv 46 in M&L3 (from Lv 44 -_-') and suddenly beat Class 7, and with 15 turns to spare.
Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah
It did cost me about half my coins (read: a lot) to prepare for it- and by "prepare" I mean "buy DX POW equips"- but the 25,000 return kinda helps.

I tried doing a no equipment+no dodge run, but too many 1shot attacks are in this game.

I did get to Dark Star Core, but then, you know, lasers, explosive arrows, star bullets, etc.

To quote a friend who recently watched me beat Cackletta's first fight in SS, "How many attacks do they get in one turn?!"

I find that I never noticed this happen here, but it really is SUCH A BIG DEAL in other games.
*shrug

DnD. 3.5. Forgotten Realms.

Having had my cleric killed in his sleep around 20 minutes into the game, I had to hastily make myself another character. The result is Sturm Stoutblade, a Dwarven fighter, who eventually joins the party by breaking out of the vault the rest of the party was trying to break INTO.

At the end of the session, we (a 3rd level party) found ourselves against a Red Dragon (a 5th level monster). Naturally, there was much bloodshed, but eventually we killed the thing with only two characters on negative HP. Unfortunately they were both about three turns from death unless we stabilised them.

I got to move before any of our proper healers [this healing would be much easier if we'd had a cle-ohwait], and decided to make an attempted heal check on the falled rogue. Why? Because our best healer at this point is an elf, and I'll be damned if I let a pansy elf outdo me.

Of course, given that I have absolutely no ranks in Heal, I fail the roll. The GM points out that I do absolutely everything wrong in my attempt to heal the rogue.

The rogue is next to go, though, and manages to hit his 10% chance of stabilising by himself. As far as he is aware - and as far as I am aware - it was me who did the healing.

My dwarf goes on to claim that he is the best doctor in the goddamn country.

Starcraft 2 Hard would like to disagree with us both for thinking that.

Also, fuck you Protoss. You and your hatred of my giant laserdrill.

Beat the last mission in the British campaign in Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts. The final village is heavily guarded with two King Tiger and two Jagdpanther units. These things are titans and taking them on is like shooting an elephant with a BB gun. And the elephant has a rocket launcher. I finally took them out after building 5 anti-tank emplacements and laid down more mines than Remilia claiming her territory during her birthday party, luring the suckers out by riddling them with artillery from a Priest mobile arty unit right into aaaaaaall those explosives. Fireworks everywhere.

Next up, CoH: Tales of Valor. So far it's select hero unit, right-click baddies, win game. Bleh.

Playing League of Legends, my first time against humans with Sivir, I got a double kill.  It was the end of the game and I was LV18 and was hitting doing 179 damage at 1.76 attacks per second.  And we all pushed to the enemy Nexus, I berserked and started lobing my boomerang and they started running at us.  And somehow my random clicking managed to catch two enemies.

Also since the berserk is an area thing, the minions and two of my teammates were berserked and the Nexus fell quick.

And it's not really Berserking, but I forgot what the skill really is called and Berserking is close enough to what happens.

Title: Re: The EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE Topic

Critical captures?
In B/W, you have a very small chance of getting a special capture animation triggered - the sounds are different, the ball literally zooms across to them, and then only shakes once before capturing.

I think it's a flat 1% chance or something.
Quote from: Bulbapedia
In Generation V, there is a chance of a critical capture, where the Pok? Ball will only shake once, thus providing a higher catch ratio. When a critical capture occurs, the Pok? Ball will pause in mid-air and make a metal noise. Critical captures rarely fail and will almost always capture the Pok?mon. Critical captures occur about as often as Critical hits, making them quite rare, however even with such a small chance of occurring, a critical capture still presents a massive boost to the overall chance of capture for Pok?mon with a catch rate of 3, who may have odds as low as .4%.

So, here's the scene.

We have a party of eight people, and we're fighting a skeletal army. Most of it is low level. A couple skeletal birds, 8 level 1 skeletons, 4 skeletal halberdiers, 4 skeletal archers, and a few uniques. One of them is styled after the grim reaper, wearing a hood and wielding a scythe. He's basically made to kill you if he ever gets a critical hit. Another is a cold elemental that's ~*~eeeeeeeeevil~*~. A third is this zombie noble type guy, kinda high up on things, doesn't really do the fighting so much as was there to help the army find what we were looking for. The fourth is a skeletal commander with lots of leadership like stuff that keeps his army together.

Anyway, the zombie noble basically said that he didn't want to be a part of this fight. After all, it'd be TERRIBLE to risk his life. This was said in goblin, the ~*~sekrit language~*~ of the skeletal army. My character, Shoe, is the only one in the party that knows Goblin. So she's heard this. The fighting starts, and the first round, she says "Hey, Zombie! If you surrender now we'll let you live!" (or something to that effect), and he kind of hesitates, but proceeds. Can't do anything yet since his spells are generally close range. We beat up a few things, and at some point our meat shields completely DESTROY a skeletal bird, among other things. tl;dr we hurt them lots, at least the lower level cannon fodder. Next round Shoe tries again "You still have your chance. You saw what we just did. There won't be any issues if you do, since your leader will just be so many bones when we're done!" (again, something to that effect). At this point, the skeletal commander is like "IF YOU DESERT I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN AND FEED YOU TO MY WARGS", and gets a 31 on his intimidate check against the guy. Now, let me note at this point Shoe is far from a diplomancer. Her skills are generally more magic related and her CHA is 10, meaning no bonus. Stuffman is like "Yeah, there's no possible way you can defeat this intimidate check with any of your skills". I'm like "Oh? WELL I'M GOING TO TRY ANYWAY! HEY, PARTY, AID OTHER HERE!" and then I roll diplomacy. I roll a 19. Pretty good, but far from my goal. Then one of the meat shields, Axis, chimes in, beats the DC 10 for Aid Other (actually gets a 28, but we have to use my check since I started this ball rolling). So that's +2. Then another meat shield and a caster, Kaoli and Liadan add to it. They both succeed, granting another +4. So now I'm at +6, or 25. Even our pacifist healer, Mina, helps out (probably because it was sparing a guy). She succeds. Another +2. A few of our people were missing so I had to roll for them. First one is Alric, and he rolls a 1. So, doesn't help. Then June, our scout/ranger goes for it. Makes it, despite having a -1 to CHA. So that's 29 at this point. Finally, we come to our Bard, Rin, who LITERALLY CANNOT FAIL THE CHECK. So now I have 31 Diplomacy vs. the commander's 31 Intimidate. The DM is basically like "OK, this is going to coin flip". He rolls a 1d2. 1 is that the intimidate check wins and the zombie stays. 2 is that the zombie gets the fuck out of there. After a tense moment, the roll comes up two.

So out of sheer luck with some mechanical abuse, my pretty much unpersuasive character manages to get one of a skeleton commander's army to flee. And mostly on a whim too. I didn't actually expect it to go to rolls, but when Stuffs rolled intimidate I decided to go for it.

That's like, the coolest thing she's ever done.

I just figured out how to get into one of the glitch spots on Glacier in Halo: Reach Firefight. That adds a first glitch spot that i can get the firefight idlers killed from.

Only problem is I don't think it's possible to get out of it without a death, so it'd only be for if I died earlier in a round. Thankfully not many of them know that trick.

Finally got Taric on League of Legends.

For those of us who are unawares, either don't play LoL or don't deal with Taric often, he's a tanking character with the ability to heal. His heal is routed through him, so whoever he heals, he heals himself for the same amount. Melee attacks knock 2 seconds off his cooldown, as well as all melee attacks passively restoring mana. His ultimate skill is like a channeled Heal Over Time spell for himself, as well as an attack damage buff for your allies. He has another passive skill that increases his armor to monstrous levels.

Turrets are set up at regular intervals in the lanes in LoL matches, and with the gameplay mechanics, they target the first target in range, then from there go through a list - AI controlled bots, AI controlled bots attacking allied Champions, or Champions attacking allied Champions. In other words, if you hit an enemy near one of their turrets, the turret immediately targets  you.
The final nail in the coffin when it comes to turrets is that they deal ramping damage. Each consecutive shot deals more damage than the last, so the longer you get hit, the faster you die.

Our team grouped up and rushed their base from one of the lanes that still had all but one turret in it, and I took the lead. Having built my items around + to HP and + to HP regen items, I pretty much hurled myself at the turrets and took the brunt of their assault.

Three full turrets later, not a one of our teammates died because of my tanking and healing, and then we get into their base itself and I assault their Nexus turrets. The Nexus is defended by two turrets, not just one, so they both hit you as you're attacking.

I killed the one turret, and if two enemy champions hadn't been wailing on me too, I probably would've been able to rally my team around me and take out the last turret, as well.

We rolled pretty much their entire team in the process, and caught 'em all off guard. It was AMAAAAAAAAZING

Mabinogi.

I was puttering around on my new Giant, hunting those physis dingoes far northwest of vales, and I get a huge lucky finish worth at least 2.5k.
Cue me jumping for joy.
I also snagged the lucky title.
My exact words upon that happening?
"Looks like the White Rabbit of Good Fortune has taken a liking to me."
Fitting, as I was using the Giant's Mallet starter weapon, which is wooden.
Tewi's signature item aside from her carrot pendant is generally a wooden mochi mallet, correct?
So it kinda makes sense doesn't it?

but I beat Durmite yesterday in M&L3.

Tpyical series of events:
-Attacks twice (does 13 damage each.)
-Spawns a straw
-Biffiduses appear
-Biffiduses attack
-I'm left with 10 HP each and have to heal with nuts. So I do.
-Biffiduses atttack
-Fire Flower
-Syrup
-Straw heals. 40 HP returns.
-Boss attacks three times.
-Healing
-Straw
-Attacks straw
-Hammers boss
-Boss attacks two times
-Straw
-Biffiduses appear

And this went on

Lilligant in Pok?mon White is mean.  It comes with Own Tempo which prevents confusion and learns Petal Dance at LV48 which is as strong as SolarBeam but causes confusion after two turns, except it doesn't!  Also she learns Quiver Dance which ups her Sp. Atk, Sp. Def., and Spd.  And that's on top of her already high speed and Sp. Atk.  And I kept Sleep Powder on her.  I went through all 21 battles of the Single Subway like this = Turn 1: Sleep Power, Turn 2:  Quiver Dance, Turn 3-??: Petal Dance.  And I just put her on my team cause I wanted a "Yuuka."   :V

Nothing like a triple kill with a single Master Spark in League of Legends. Just so gratifying to have the other team assume you're just going for crowd-control abilities, but suddenly you get the Deathcap and your Ability Power leaps through the roof. Now, you're quite abruptly very dangerous. And from very far away.

Speaking of abruptly dangerous, I finally beat Zoe and Mr. Lobster in Monster Tale this morning after several tries. Turns out you can dash multiple times in a row, which I didn't know about until now. :P What I also didn't know was that the boss fight was glitched somehow, sometimes he'd roll off the side of the screen and never come back if you had too many pet items being used or something. I'll forgive Dreamrift since glitches happen, and I was able to figure out all the boss' patterns pretty much on my own. ^_^

Reminds me of a DnD quest a couple of years back. I played a pseudo-katana (read: bastard sword) fighter, our party is running around the walls of a citadel and generally looking for a way in when we met a squad of patrollers. The corridor was single-file only and our cleric was tanking things up front, when my fighter decides to screw it all and leap-charge through a corner, sheer 40-feet drop be damned. So I rolled Jump, got a decent number, and rolled a 20 on the attack roll. After that, I got a 10 on the damage roll. The DM said "Whoa, cool." and decided to just double that damage instead rolling a second time since my fighter just sailed through 20 feet of chasm and splitted a patrol in two vertically.

"You gain a +10 bonus just for doing some utterly cool shit!
Also, you used Berserker's Rage to nullify the harmful effects of a hard-vacuum."

Somewhere about 60% of the way through STALKER, I walk out of camp and directly into a trio of thugs who think I would look GREAT with a perforated line from my neck to my groin. They get shut up by a group of guys from the Duty clan, whose camp I had just walked out of. I figure that it would be great to help these guys out, so we storm a local compound filled to the brim with these 'Freedom' thugs and I take out three of their snipers. I join back up with the platoon, take out a few foot soldiers, then run right into their head honcho's building, smite his two elite guards with some explosives to the FACE, then watch one of the guys who helped me take out the original thugs make sure that the last thing to cross Head Honcho Lukash's mind is a 5.56mm bullet. After all that, NO. HEALING. NECESSARY. I had way too many medkits as per usual, and needed ZEE-RO. I wound up with a sniper rifle, as well.

Next, I pass through a radiation-filled highway to a place just CRAWLING with ghostly apparitions. I had been playing for quite some time, so I stopped for dinner and exercise, but I'm full of anticipation and cookies.

Day-later edit: I bludgeoned a Hunter to death with Gnome Chompski in L4D2. I made him miss.

Playing Demon's Souls some more (I know I'm late to the party, I just got it recently)

I've managed to defeat the Flamelurker, Dragon God, the pair of Maneaters, the Old Monk's possessed Black Phantom, the Penetrator, and a whole slew of other Black Phantoms.

Flamelurker is a giant flaming beast who is absurdly hard to attack without being hit by his huge attack areas.
The Dragon God is just like, eh, sneaking and running like hell, so it's not as much of an accomplishment.
The Maneaters I only did recently, so I think I was overleveled ^^;
I did the Old Monk right after, but someone else got possessed and he seemed low level so I had an easy(ish) win.

After killing myself a handful of times on 4-2 to lower my World Tendency, I encountered the Black Phantom Satsuki with one-shot kill katanas and everything. You can block them with a shield easily, but when he's at low health he'll use an unlimited supply of full healing items unless you interrupt him or go all out before then.  :colonveeplusalpha:
But I beat him, and got a Hiltless, a powerful katana that lacks a hilt  :V and it's my most powerful weapon but it causes damage to me when I swing it, but it's minor enough for me to ignore so AWESOME KATANA THAT DEALS 300~ DAMAGE YEAH!

And the Penetrator.
Hoo boy, he's fun. He's about three meters tall clad in heavy armor with a huge rapier-thingy that's as tall as he is. One of his attacks involves him thrusting his rapier at you, and if he penetrates you with it... Have fun being impaled by a two meter sword, being slowly lifted up before he throws you across the room for a one-shot kill.

Oh, I beat him after about six attempts being ruined by being penetrated. And I did it solo.
I found a video of the Penetrator landing a Penetration on somebody. The only reason he lives through it is because Second Chance instantly revives you with 50% HP upon death. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WB40c_prUtc)

In a word...HELL FSCKING YES IT DID! I didn't think to use it during the final battle, but it was very helpful in pretty much annihilating every other minor enemy in my path. Forget the Triangle-Circle juggle, I never bothered with it. I just mashed Square and watched torsos and heads fly off. =3

It's such a gratifying weapon to use, isn't it? It also prepares you for the final battle, because the giant statue blade uses the same controls, sans charging ability.

Beat Half-Life 2 Episode 1 to get the achievement The One Free Bullet. In order to get it, you have to go through a few solid hours of gameplay with using only the gravity gun and explosives. The one free bullet refers to the one you use to shoot the padlock off of the door just after you get the pistol.

SO gratifying to do that, because then you get super-proficient at the explosives weapons and how to properly richochet things with the gravity gun.

That being said, I've never managed to succeed at that particular achievement. Mostly because I personally frown on eccentric achievements put there for the sake of making you walk around on your hands with your feet painted red. though. Friend of mine had earned it and I was amazed at just how well he could land grenades precisely where he wanted them, fling things into people with the gravity gun coming out of a snap-turn, and the like. Very impressive work.

I thought no-dodging M&L'd be impossible!
I found out why they're not- Who in their right minds set up their characters as tanks to begin with?
My chars. are Lv 27 and have almost 300 HP and like 200 DEF.
I wasn't ever taking more than 50 damage from Blizzard Midbus- and he was defeated in eight turns.
Exemptions to this play are now reduced to Giant Battles. It seems as though previous 1shot patterns can be tanked this way.

The Boss Dissonance has shifted from Kirby-Type to Mario-Type.

Airway enemies regularly recieve 4-8 attacks per turn and almost all of them cause status effects.
I'd buy A-OK Wears, but all of my money is going into healing items...!

I have a few older exploits that would go nicely in a thread like this, but I should probably stick to the current stuff. Tale for another day.

Anyways, a good TF2-related moment comes to mind right now. The first was in a 2fort match, with me playing Soldier. A Spy and two Medic/Demo pairs had just taken down the other team's Engies, but they all died in the process. I managed to get to the front lines first on Soldier, but they had the workings of a defense building up again.

Cue the crockets.

Somehow, I manage to get three unboosted crit rockets in a row. First takes out a Soldier, Pyro, and Medic. The second finishes his Heavy buddy and a nearby Scout, and the third simultaneously gibs both Engies and their under-construction Sentries. Feeling like a missile-toting Rambo, I head up the courtyard stairs and down into the Intel area. Once I grab the intel, I hit my Buff Banner, considering it was charged by the crocket storm, and go up the ramp. I get smacked in the back by an Engie with a Southern Hospitality when I walk out, so I switch to my Equalizer, and when the bleeding wears off, nail him in the face with a crit swing and one-shot kill him. Now that my health is down to 50, the Equalizer's highest-level boost kicks in, so I sprint towards the gate with the speed boost. I manage to avoid a charging Headtaker Demo and finish him in two swings, then a Scout that drops down in front of me from the grate in one. From there, it seems that my team was busy holding them up to stop a full-scale attempt to kill me and save the intel. I run right out the front door unopposed, scoring the winning capture for the round. When alltalk came on at the end of the round, there was a LOT of screaming directed at me and my crits. Thus, my Black Box and Equalizer earned the name/description tags that I gave them.

Exuro's Crocket Cannon and Exuro's Haxpick, the lattter being described 'the only thing worse than a random crocket'. The Equalizer is my best melee weapon across all classes irregardless, so melee fights are always fun. And I did get MVP for that round, anyways, so I have my medal.

Well, aren't low-level Psychics the hardest type to train that don't have gimmicks (e.g. useless Magikarp)? I remember having so much ire over an Abra that only knew Teleport.

I don't know whether to put this into EEEE or FFFF, but I recently managed to get 450 million score in BIT.TRIP FLUX's (http://youtu.be/FNFdGbbSKyw) Epiphany. Considering the next-highest recorded score I've seen on YouTube only in the 300m, that's definitely EEEE. What's FFFF about that is that I'm so damn close to getting Perfect - and I know I can get the Beats I missed on a regular basis - I just can't seem to bring it all together along with the boss. I've scored a lot of Bushwacka kills, myself. I get a lot of random crits from it even without pissing on people beforehand. Nobody ever expects to get their head lopped off by the seemingly unaware Sniper hiding at the back. Then again, melee is just one of  my strong points.

Which reminds me. While playing in what little free time I had last night, I managed to play Demoknight Baseball. Coaxed a Headtaker-wielding one to charge at me in melee while I had next to no HP left with the Equalizer. I've faced charging Demos tons of times before, so I know exactly how far their charge will carry them. I stood my ground until the last moment, at which point the Random Number God smiled upon me once more and I crit one-shotted him mid-charge. Sent his ragdoll flying from one side of the bridge to the other on 2fort.

Playing some Mount and Blade - Warband, with the Prophecy of Pendor mod.

Go to take an enemy castle, notice that it has over 500 men. I had one-hundred-and-twenty-three or so, and it's my first siege without AI lords helping me with their armies. Or me helping them, rather.

"Why the fuck not, if it goes badly I can reload my state."

/me proceeds to utterly demolish their defenses and only lose about 28 men, as opposed to their five hundred dead.

Can I mention awesomeness in board games.  I mean it has games in the title.  I was playing Risk with my friends and I had one lone guy defend Madagascar from an onslaught of cannons and stuff.

Okay, so most of what I owned was owned by Europe that round, except for Madagascar and I only had three units on it.  My first two were lost like that, but that last little dude held on.  Then America came through and took Africa from Europe and my dumb luck held through.

That being said, I won a Monopoly game with all of the properties (minus two), having 5, 900 dollars left over and being worth over 9, 500 in property values.

Seeing everyone being forced to trade me their lots to pay off their dues was amazing.

I finally managed a flawless buster duel against Dynamo Man and Astro Man in Rockman and Forte. No damage, buster only with Forte.  :toot:

Those bosses have always been kicking my ass ever since I bought the game. Well, not so much Astro Man but Dynamo Man has. The problem with Astro Man was just getting that bloody no-damage battle with him.

He has some attacks, they are all very easy to dodge. That is until he introduces the concept "random dropping" where he just lands on you completely at random. So his battle isn't that much about skill but more about being in the right place at the right time.

Dynamo Man was a real pain for me. Would he stop jumping into that generator all the time? That is a very cheap move. Especially if he initiates that lightning orb attack right before he does it. That will leave you to dodge five bullets which is tough enough in itself with Bass and in the meantime, he will fully recover his life bar. The bastard finally died though and I was like "DIE MONSTER!"

That was a good moment for me. Now I'm only missing... Burner Man - the guy whose strategy combines insane speed, some epic dodges and a proper allignment of the planets.

Would he stop jumping into that generator all the time? That is a very cheap move.
He can only do it once per battle as far as I know. Plus, since you're Bass, you can just fire straight up at the charger thingies instead of needing to use the platforms. It does suck when he does the lightning ball attack beforehand, though.

As for Burner Man, he's easier with Bass too since you can dash-double-jump over him if he corners you with the flamethrower.
Title: Re: The EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE Topic
Post by: Zengeku on April 29, 2011, 08:27:02 AM
He can definitely jump into that generator more than once. I have had it happen to me as much as three times in one battle. Bass at least makes dealing with the generator a more simple task.

As for Burner Man. I'm not really sure if Megaman's sliding under him or Bass' jumping over him is the more tricky maneuvr to perform. Since I don't care about Megaman in that game, because really the game is made with Bass in mind, I probably won't find out.

Oh and I forgot that I hadn't buster duelled with Astro Man yet. I went ahead and did that. The thing is the majority of his attacks are very easy to dodge but there is still somewhat of a luck factor to him in that sense that he can randomly crash into him, completely unpredictably, or after his copy shot he might crash right into you when he is done. I might be able to find another way to dodge that attack that will leave me safe however. And I did manage a flawless battle against him. He wasn't too bad. A little annoying at times though.

Oh and Cold Man, Pirate Man, Magic Man and Drill Man are all pushovers. Its a shame that half the cast of robot masters are pushovers. And Tengu Man goes quite trivial with Bass as well.
