Congratulations on the MotK record for HRtP! Even if I've already seen these over a year ago. I was recently talking to someone about HRtP records, and wondering if you were ever going to post your older scores here... interesting coincidence.

I just realized that, although the standard here is to label videos of non-replay games with "Replay", labeling them "Video" probably makes more sense (since occasionally people include videos in submissions for games that do have replays)... I wonder if that should be changed in all the PC-98 threads.

I'm pleased at my marginal improvement lately. Not holding my breath on a perfect clear, but I'm getting close. Need to work on some mistimed bombing issues and random derps, but otherwise solid.

An interesting thought came up. I deleted REIIDEN.CFG on the disk file using DiskExplorer, which made the game recreate the file using a default setting of 5 starting lives.
Just letting you know in case the rule may need to be reconsidered, although I've been happy enough doing this on 3 lives for the most part.

I'm not sure. Anyone else have any thoughts?

All the existing scoring has been done with a setting of 3 lives, including the one Japanese player known to score in HRtP. I wonder how much difference it'd make? I suppose it'd give slightly higher clear bonuses in the first few stages, considering how remaining resources are a factor.

I guess I'll just post this for now. It was done suddenly in the midst of savestate practicing back on Sunday. I'm extremely annoyed with it because not only did I fail to record it, I didn't even get it onto my scoreboard in the game. I was going to just forget about it and wait until I did better on-stream, but it's occurred to me that if I do fail to record a better run before giving up suddenly producing this at that point would seem even more ridiculous.

Anyway, I've actually improved the route quite a bit. When the stars align, I am able to chain the items (as well as the tiles) all the way to stage 7. The RNG is brutal in this game, but I'm hoping that if I spam enough attempts over the next few days, I might actually finish a run with 14.2 million, or if a miracle occurs, 14.3.

Well this came earlier than expected. I lost two tiles due to bad luck in stage 7, but otherwise this was wonderful. Great luck with the items in stage 1, and the chain was carried all the way through stage 6. Stages 18 and 19 went perfectly.

4 tiles missed in stage 8, and 1 or 2 elsewhere. No fancy item collecting. Getting every tile should yield 14 million, if I'm not mistaken, but stage 8 makes this stupid. With an instant bomb, 3-4 missed tiles seems to be the usual "good" result. Getting every tile (there are 35) requires considerable luck, and of course you often lose 10 or more with bad luck, essentially forcing a restart. Every stage after that can be done consistently at least, so with patience a full tile run can eventually be produced. I'm not going to bother.

The new bombing technique ZIL taught me allowed me to go even further, I think I can go even further with it, gonna try to get more used to it tomorrow.

I chained every item up to stage 7, including resetting stage 1 repeatedly to get a friendly item pattern. After dropping the orb to roll along the bottom, I kick it to the left wall in such a way that it hits the lower left tiles and bounces back to me without going into the teleporter. Here an item should spawn from one of those first few tiles (if it doesn't I restart). Then I can collect it, bomb, and almost always be able to collect the next two (if I can't, I again restart). Furthermore, the pattern persists throughout the game, so forcing a similar start every time lets me learn strategies for the later stages much more easily.

Naturally, stage 8 was shit, essentially negating my early game efforts completely, but nonetheless I reached 14 million. It's possible that this could still be beaten by a run that ignores items and simply collects every tile. I don't care to calculate it. When and if my scores are challenged I might return to this game, but as it stands I'm done with it.

I stopped playing for a while after returning from my trip to the USA, was scared of having forgotten my strats, and to have forgotten the timing for certain parts, also I played lots of new steam games. Picked it up a couple of days ago and was relieved to see my fears were unfounded, now I'm finally back on the path of progress.

Got a new one. Almost optimized the stages, should try to find safer ways to get the point items.

Back after several months of grinding and runs I felt weren't quite good enough I managed to pull of a run I could be proud of again, missing only two panels, which after several weeks of hellish grinding, I considered to be quite an improvement. Here's hoping for being able to make the final stretch to 14 million before summer.

After much grinding I finally got 14 million on makai, I'll stop for today tomorrow I'll either start aiming for wr or try to improve my Jigoku score.
I'm so happy because of this, I could just break out in song.

After much trying
and even a bit of working on my run, I managed a rund
that didn't miss any panel and got me a few item points in the way, I think I'll take a few weeks or months before trying jigoku, but for now I'm satisfied with myself, and what I've done, even if it were to be taken away almost immediately.

Dude, your dedication is stunning. I will probably try to retaliate sometime in the future, but I'll have to devise new item strategies for that. I hope you'll start chaining items as well someday. If you do that I think you'll have beaten me for good.

Tried getting higher than before with my improved route. I think the limit for this route would be around 14.1 million if everything goes right, so will probably aim for it soon.

So these past months I played a lot of HRtP. Not all these runs were recorded. infact only 2 lol, I honestly just forget to usually, only when Im doing big grinds I record (most of these were done in few credits)
