Surprise, more stupid Easy scores.  I don't even want to try anymore for these other routes.  If it beats the rush job scores on the wiki then it's good enough.

Missed out on freezing down the fairies a few times during the final battle, which definitely secures 31M.  The side fairies during the penultimate spell card also drop items as well, but it'll be a hassle to freeze for on this difficulty.

Talk about a huge fuckup. On the plus side, all that theory paid off in the earlier stages when it came to preserving lives... a shame that I don't have the power of consistency with me.

A2 scores are plastered all over the other routes, so what I thought was the correct reading after ending stage one was actually a few hundred thousand off, and ended up scoring for the B1 table.  The run wasn't too great, anyway.  Trying again later in the evening or tomorrow.

Very fantastic scores, both of you!

Oh, whatever!  High score tables say one thing, stage selection scores say another.  50M doesn't even show up on any of them.  Finish stage one and the score changes to the higher of the two A-route records, then as soon as the replay menu comes up, B2 with a previous record of 33M jumps out and takes command!  I'm on the verge of nuking this score.dat, or at least shelving it so I won't know what route I'm scoring for after the first stage, anyway.

Sucky run, but it's a working replay!  Moved the older one elsewhere and played on a fresh score.dat, whatever good it may have done.

Numbers, huh.  Stage one has ended at 5.4M on occasion, but I probably spent three bombs for that.  Speaking of bombing, I can only reliably have three bombs for the first spell if I die somewhere but don't screw up the freezing too much.  Say, at the very beginning of the spell.  Whether or not it pays off is another question, as that extra spent bomb could have gone towards stage two Lily Black's second phase for a larger bonus.  If I hold on like so I'll be sitting on 300% stock for a little bit before hitting her second phase.  Maybe...die a lot during the first half of the second stage to cough up another bomb.  I used to set one off right before Lily Black but I think it's a pretty spectacular waste.

I don't bother to freeze farm Sunny Milk's final spell anymore, as the current freeze bonus I'm managing doesn't keep up with the deteriorating spell bonus.  And there's no item drop at the end, I think.

Used to be able to keep ahead with Star Sapphire's midboss spell so I can end it with a freeze, but...yeah, I haven't reproduced that lately.  Her noncard sucks.  As far as I can tell you need to be inside one ring before setting off the freeze for a better bonus, but the gaps suck.  Especially when she moves down.  I'm no good with fitting between them from the side when they travel diagonally, either.

For stage three, quickly destroy the large fairy that drops in and fires plenty of aimed bullets so another one can drop it.  For these and the ones later on, freeze timing needs to be looked into so the knives can be taken advantage of for about 100K to the bonus, maybe more.  And many other things, like freezing down the side fairies for the final spell as done in the Easy A2 run.  And some of the other spells for the final battle, I don't know what makes the side fairies drop items every now and then.

Well, one more thing about Lily Black.  She probably follows you on the last phase, and that was a good job dragging her to the side so the bullets fly offscreen before they're frozen.

But seriously, just fast forward and check out the Fairy Overdrive attempt.  Holy shit lol.

Thumbs up, very entertaining!  The spell before that made me wince.

1600 extend in PCB, how disturbing.  The idea always floated in the back of my mind that it could be possible with the extra fairies during the spells, and here it is.  A little less shocking when seeing a continue was used, for full power at the beginning I guess.  And I wonder if all the deaths were placed where it wouldn't damage the appearance of point items.

Stage 1. Failed at last SC, 1 bomb used.
Stage 2. Because I used the bomb previously, so I forgot to that I don't have any bomb stock, missed 1 opportunity to freezing those fairies. And missed at Lily Black's SC too, I downed her too fast, and didn't used the bomb... Lose about 1 M, the highest I got is 17M
Stage 3. Lots of mistake to chain freezing those fairies, and failed to milking Sapphire's non-spellcards, yeah... I mean a lots... orz

Who cares about tiny increments when the real scoring scene hasn't arrived yet.  Another fresh score.dat, broken replay.

The best I've managed on the first large fairy is 90K, sitting a little up, streaming a bit, then moving up alongside the stream a little before releasing.  Or maybe I should try it from the very bottom and worry less about grazing.  Sitting lower for the other streams which I should have thought to do, and 2M has been broken before the boss, but the score still swings around a space of 120K.  Checking out the second phase of the midboss so I can slip in some 100K+ freezes, but not without dealing damage.  Stage one ends with 5.7M after...three bombs, I think.  Forgotten already.

Last spell was nice.  The bomb didn't end the spell so I finished it with a deathwave instead.  And I should have shot down that last bit of health but wanted to end it with a freeze, so I went to the right to work up the meter on the other fairy.  And that last bomb was set off at a bad moment so the bullets turned into fireballs very shortly after.

To someone I didn't answer:  A2 is probably the highest.  I thought C2 might have given it a run for its money, and it may still do so, but I haven't checked yet on this difficulty.  And this problem came up last night and earlier in the day when intermittent keystrokes were being registered by the left arrow key, inside and outside the game.  I think I may have fixed the problem, but no telling until playing again sometime later.

Working replay.  1000% / 6530%.  So, made it to 2.135M before the boss once.  And I need to review how I'm using the bomb against the first spell.  Ending stage one with 6M isn't so far away.

I shouldn't have used that second bomb against the last noncard.  Well, another time I'll be ready to pelt the final spell with three bombs.

Normal - A1
Heartbeam - 39,641,480 - C - 0.300% - Replay

Hmm, supposed to look thoughtful or something after trying a different route.  I suppose 45M is a good target, but maybe later.

I need somewhere better to die on stage one.  Oh, last phase of Lily White!  Only needed five seconds of thinking power.

Freeze values are too volatile, and the bosses won't follow me on attacks where I want them to be in a good position.  New pre-boss record of 2.185M (520%), and a stage one score of 6.082M (2.058M pre-boss).

Earlier-than-expected revisit because of an uploaded run from WHZ beating the old one.  Around 940% motivation.

Heartbeam - 45,565,540 - C - 0.700% - Replay

1000% / 5178%.  Only successfully froze off one of the fairies during Fairy Overdrive.  Another one lost due to a deathwave, and I stopped bothering with Sunny Milk after one failed freezing attempt.  I don't even remember how I died to that spell, and I don't want to look back.  Screen shake, game stuttering, or something else or a combination.  Whatever it was, it wasn't a good note to end the run on.

Poor GFW.  Not many people want to submit for the bottom three difficulties.

Don't retry. If you want to retry, back to screen title first and start new game. At least this work for me, hope it works for you too guys.

I'll keep that in mind, thanks.

Oh, and a new number for stage one.  6.2M, and although the pre-boss stood at 2.15M there's enough room in mistakes to push it another 100K at the very least.  No, let's make that 200K. Silly boss movements.

Didn't freeze down a total of three fairies during the final battle, one of them I didn't bother for.  Ended with 98% bomb power.  Should have suicided again during the last noncard.  Should have...

30M is right there!  Moving on to something else.

I don't know who said it, or if the person was serious about wanting ZUN to keep the new health bar for future games, but it's stuck in my mind.  The current implementation of the circular health bar is lacking.  Be it a part of the spell title blocking the last bits of health so I don't know how little to shoot, or trying to track each bar during Fairy Overdrive, or being obscured by everything happening on the screen, it's a sore sight!

A2 Normal, stage three midboss.  Thinking of suiciding on a fireball or Star Sapphire herself as the bullets finish freezing.  Then I can place all attention on fitting through the gaps and hopefully bring up another bomb to use while still ending the fight with 200% bomb power.  Positions haven't been studied, the regular freeze could land anywhere from 300 to 500K.

Eh, Star Sapphire's Fairy Overdrive has too much health.

Fucking huge GFW scores, and Kagamin is on Normal A2?  I guess I'll try to hold up Easy A1 a little longer.  After watching a certain replay I have to say wow at the orb-motivation abuse, the quiet spot for Closure Sign "Big Crunch," and that it took me this long to realize Super Perseid isn't completely random.

No, it was a pretty shitty run, but I'm much more elated at skipping 31M and going straight to 32M.  Died to Orion Belt for an unfathomably stupid reason, and had to die again to pick up another bomb for the final spell, ending at around 908% motivation.  Should make an effort to stay up there even longer and continue freezing.

861%. I am serious. If I didn't make (at least some of) those mistakes (careless!) that would've been close to 80mil, at least beating UKT.

Also, HECATE, yukarin and UKT playing? What is this, really. No pressure on us at all. Totally.

Almost milked the last card perfectly. Almost. Some poor bomb usage elsewhere. Note that my Stage 1 was exceptionally poor, only barely made up by RNG shenanigans on Stage 2. Might need to TAS demonstrate myself a route that I can follow.

Heartbeam - 33,131,550 - ALL - 0.180% - Replay

I'll take it!  Didn't freeze off a fairy again.  Fairy Overdrive took several attempts to freeze off.  Didn't pay attention to hitting 300% during the final noncard.  Bombing could have been much better during the final spell.  What I should try is use short freeze bursts after blocking the first fireball activation wave.  Hopefully that'll put me in a good position to get a 100% freeze for the fireball wave after that.

Might, might be able to catch Star Sapphire when she's in the upper right corner.  If not then there's successful upper left for 245K spell bonus range.

Easy - A2
Heartbeam - 33,282,720 - ALL - 0.150%

Doesn't matter, didn't pay attention to the high score changing so it's broken.  The freeze probably would have done Star Sapphire in during Fairy Overdrive at the 245K bonus mark, but I just had to hit her before the freeze finished and end the spell with a fringe shot for some reason.  Motivation around 915%.  Missed another fairy freeze on top of that, and I think I finally realized what's up with the side fairies not dropping items during the spell sometimes.  If the noncard ends without taking them out then they'll hold onto the items.  Died to a lone fireball somewhere, cancelling the wave.  130-200K.

The indefinite ending bug seems to pop up if you freeze off the main fairy and either or both of the side ones at the same time, provided it would have depleted their health bar.  It wouldn't be possible to freeze for all three item groups, then.

Easy - A2
Heartbeam - 34,001,610 - C - 0.100% - Replay

Holes everywhere etc etc.  But, I'm happy with being on the winning side of the close cut.  Just in time for week three to begin!

Time to bring up the randomness again.  Some bosses look like they'll follow you, but for others it seems like your positioning will exert no influence whatsoever.  One suspect, Lunatic Rain, can yield a freeze bonus anywhere from over 70K to 30K when Luna Child is in an upper corner, and I have no idea how to salvage it.  Freeze early and catch the stars before they fly off the screen or wait for the others to expand, doesn't make much of a difference.  Everything about Sunny Milk seems to fall under this.  Diamond Ring can pull off over 200K per freeze, or you can be subject to the same fate as Lunatic Rain.

No idea if I'm using my bombs for the best spots on stage three.  The lone large fairy is a curious one.  If they're good candidates for bombing then I'll likely wait on Royalflare to work its magic and see how early to bomb to make the most of the knives and fireballs.

Confirming. Also, of note (albeit it's a really minor note wrt scoring because really, bombing it is a much better idea), at something like 50 seconds and 20 seconds remaining on the timer for the last Spell Card, the Spell Card bonus jumps up. Forgot to take note of the actual times but they're somewhere around there. You could freeze them off individually (or rather, without taking out the main one) but.... ehhh...

Regarding saving replays and having them break (e.g. incorrect route), I believe it only affects the X2 Routes, though I could be incorrect here; I've yet to have it happen to me on any of the X1 routes when restarting from Stage 2 onward (so for example, B1-2).

Freezing off the other fairies rather than taking them (in the non-spells, not the Spell Cards save for the last two; they don't drop Point Items in the others) out normally is also worth a rather notable amount. But it's really hard to do on the first non-spell of B1. Might just use a bomb.

Also, congratulations Heartbeam! I've been meaning to say that for a while  >_>;

EDIT: Let's start filling up the other fields with semi-decent nonsense.

Lunatic - A1
BaitySM - 59,532,880 - C - 0.0% - Replay

625%, 3rd credit on A1 in its entirety. 1 Bomb remaining because I wanted to time the bombs correctly  :<
Don't like the look of doing Hard, Normal and Easy because I feel that the routes would be too heavily affected, unlike something say, UFO!Hard and UFO!Lunatic. Sorry Heartbeam  :<

Lunatic - A2
BaitySM - 60,739,510 - 0.0% - C - Replay

Biggest mistakes:
  • Improper freezing on Lily Black, leading to a miss; I knew when to bomb but I decided to experiment and paid the price for it.
  • Too aggressive on Sunny's second; sandwiching between fire bullets is exceptionally difficult
  • An actual panicbomb on Star Sapphire's third (that is, second-boss) Spell Card; the laser actually wasn't going to hit but a "heat of the moment" got to me and I got all scared
  • Lack of attention on the last Spell Card leading to 2 deaths, only recoverable with a single bomb. I wasn't paying attention to my Perfect Freeze counter... orz
  • It took 2 credits

Should've looked at a high scoring replay first rather than rely on my own knowledge, which only covered so much. I'll probably touch this up later. Oh, and this one ends at 611%.

Also, congratulations Heartbeam! I've been meaning to say that for a while  >_>;

Aww, thank you.  That means a lot.

I wanted to put up pretty pictures, but all the benchmark scores have since been beaten by later runs on the same day.  One of them scored a few 70K freeze bonuses against Lily White and left the battle with over 1M.  Entered the boss with 1.371M which is later beaten.  Haven't touched 1.4M yet, but there's no reason for it to not be possible.  A marvelous 85,000 freeze against Lunatic Rain and 45K on the following noncard for that 1.371M run, breaking 3.4M (which gets broken later).  Then the high score display fucked up.

A2 - Easy
Heartbeam - 34,079,810 - C - 0.240% - Replay

A nice 260K freeze against Diamond ring, and it was a first to leave stage two with 13M.  Upon reaching the final battle I sat at a never-before-seen score of 18M, getting me pretty hyped up which hasn't really happened in this game.  And isn't always a good thing.  Fuckups, ahoy!

Feeling rushed to end the first spell early.  Not careful with directing the fireballs above Star Sapphire so I eat one and finish her off with a deathwave.  Poor bomb timing all around for the final spell, and I die near the end, and neither of the top two fairies are frozen off.  I thought the freeze would finish them off, but it was also finishing the main fairy so I'm not sure.  Just like how it'll ignore the side fairies on a noncard if it finishes the main one as well.  Trash, trash, trash.  This isn't the end!

A2 - Easy
Heartbeam - 35,238,200 - C - 0.210% - Replay

Happy to let this sit without constantly thinking about glaring defects.  Let's go straight to the scoring points.

The freezing for one of the knife waves prior to Lily Black is absurdly weak.  I should try to imitate the timing used for the last set of knives, and I don't know why I let it run like this for so long.  Don't know what to say about the bomb timing for her second wave.  Just make sure you set it off when she's in the center, obviously...maybe?  And milking, of course.  Run that timer down next time!

Accidentally timed out Diamond Ring on an earlier run, then I finally made the connection between that and having Sunny Milk drop items for her final spell.  Best to worry only about freeze coverage than to try and finish off Diamond Ring?  If I recall there's one more wave after the one I'd normally end it at, but the timing would be very close.

Lots of holes on stage three still.  Right now I'm listening to the shots going off to know when to bomb, but again, no idea what the best timing is.  Ramming fairy section needs a lot of work.  Oh, and the best bonus yet for bombing the lone fairy out of five or so attempts.  Glorious.  Okay, that's it.  Not feeling well, can't expand on this.  Learn the timing for everything, wait for the stars to align and get favorable boss positions most of the time, blah blah blah.

Wait, forgot to bring up Fairy Overdrive.  That was the worst run of the spell I've ever seen.  Must have lost like 150K trying to end the blasted thing.  Haha, fuck you too and your hard-to-see health bars!  And as far as I can tell, freezing off the spell in the upper right corner for a 250K+ bonus is only possible if you damage Star Sapphire with frozen bullets from the previous noncard.  Nah, you can do it without that I think.  It'll be iffy racing them up there.

Yep, final spell bombing sucked as usual.  I'll take a pointer from maron.  Who wants to do 36 million?

Right, why is GFW getting so little traffic?  I wouldn't expect it to create waves like UFO (soaking up so many views, damn you), but I thought it would have fared better than DS.  Maybe it is, but I want better than that.  Poor, poor GFW.  I'm sorry.

Still working on my technique. I'm not happy with my "random deaths" pretty much everywhere, I have absolutely no consistancy on anything. Will come with time, I hope.

Here's some preliminary scores to give the thread some more life, I guess.

A1 - Lunatic
Naut - 69,991,930 - C - 0.08% - Replay

922%. Death on the last card, why not really? Don't have the patience to time out all the necessary attacks for score, plus the route isn't as dodge intensive as I like (re: too boring). Moving on to a different route...

B2 - Lunatic
Naut - 54,599,350 - C - 0.04% - Replay

561%. This is more like it, lots of good dodging on this route (not that I ever successfully do anyways, but still). Chaindied three times on stage 3, which was pretty disappointing. Died on the last card as well. But eh, this route is at least a lot more fun to play.

865%. Too many errors early, decided to try and salvage the run. Also, the "test bomb" on the first boss non-spell... didn't work as planned (30ish% return; no fairy got KO'd). Given the lack of bullets that are around for that fairy, I may just leave it out altogether, or try to find a time where the ring of bullets syncs up with the pause between the ice breakers. Eugh, probably not worth it. Lost control on "Fairy Overdrive"; I know that the charge is aimed but... I have this feeling that I need to get into position quicker.

What's up, blog.

I expected to experience my first rage session when the realization fully sank in, but I was only left with a lot of nervous energy and pinged someone I normally wouldn't bother for something insignificant like this.

Definitely no high hopes to reach 36M, but I wanted to push anyway and see how favorable the boss positioning will be.  A very, very fortunate run of Diamond Ring that probably won't happen the next 50 or so attempts, and landed a stage two score of 14M.  Reach the final battle at 19M, and now I'm hyped again because I know 36M is a good possibility.  Mostly decent battle, had another bad run of Fairy Overdrive and lost around 150K again.  Then I try to copy maron (successfully in the past), score 700K bombs each time, and this happens.

On the bright side, had this not happened I wouldn't have ran it again to test out a new idea against some attacks.  Doesn't save me from boss movement BS, but the freeze bonus will be higher on average.  Another buggy ending at 28.1M, but I didn't mind so much.

Easy - A2
Heartbeam - 36,510,960 - C - 0.160% - Replay

First, I expect someone else to pass 37M by a good margin in the future.  Might try later, but I can't put off Mars Matrix any longer.

Second, the first two midbosses are fucking trolls.  They're cool in the other games, though.  Lily White, quit hanging out at the side and upper corners.  Lily Black, quit moving up and staying up there to ensure I get the least out of my bombs.

Luna Child and Lunatic Rain, I don't know what to think.  I'm still sure she doesn't follow you on that spell, but if she did then it would make sense that she moves to the side more often than not.  But she did it even before I tried out this new method.  No, I think she's just natrually attracted to the edge of the screen.  And moving up.

I'm suddenly doing something different (and wrong) in the beginning because Orion Belt hasn't been milked effectively lately.  Didn't bother to freeze Fairy Overdrive, and against the final spell I had flashbacks of the ending bug, then proceeded to forget any plan I ever had for it.  Very messy.

Still working on my technique. I'm not happy with my "random deaths" pretty much everywhere, I have absolutely no consistancy on anything. Will come with time, I hope.

Here's some preliminary scores to give the thread some more life, I guess.

Oh, of course you're fine!  You know what I mean then.  I want traffic, traffic.  People dropping by to submit a run then usually never returning, but it's a unique post and that's good.  Maybe not deserving of an emphasis on traffic.

Regarding saving replays and having them break (e.g. incorrect route), I believe it only affects the X2 Routes, though I could be incorrect here; I've yet to have it happen to me on any of the X1 routes when restarting from Stage 2 onward (so for example, B1-2).

You're right, and you probably figured this out but I'm guessing it's because the X2 score is retained when restarting past stage one.  Picking the second route again would bump the score list up one position because it normally shows you the X1 record, regardless of which one is higher.

Heartbeam - 34,298,550 - C - 0.2% - Replay

Particularly disappointing Luna Child battle, especially the opener.  Sort-of-but-not-really hoped to reach 35M, and Hirona is on it so he/she can do it instead.  Might come back to it sooner than later, but there's work to do today.  Hopefully I have the ending bug ironed out now.  Just don't shoot both helper fairies while freezing.

Mars Matrix is a cool game.  Really nice atmosphere.

I didn't realize Kagamin's Normal A2 run had so much room for improvement.  And there's definitely a better time to bomb on Lunatic Rain, if I remember.  Of course, props for the new ideas needed to put the score up there.  Trying it out when I can set aside some time.

Something I forgot to say about Easy A2.  The last run ended Diamond Ring before its very last wave, but to do so the freeze went off for less coverage.  The timing for the last, single wave of bullets is pretty tight, and letting it timeout so the items can be picked up on the final spell usually eats up about 40-50K of the spell bonus trying to freeze it off.  Even before learning to end the final spell faster, still better off that way.

Oh, that's so sweet.  Then I watch my run again and wonder why it's so fucking shitty.  Forget about Normal A2, doing Easy A2 again this evening.  I need to put some sort of thank you in the comment box.

Obviously, I'm behind on the latest and greatest scoring practices. No, not really. Read on for the ramblings of an old man if you're interested.

What's really interesting is the scoring potential on Stage 1. Compare:

Christ 11.6mil and no Spell Cards Bonus (which when added up, gives 200-300k at minimum). First credit in a few days to boot; sadly I haven't been playing a lot of anything recently save for... Visual Novels
Can't even really call that playing, it's more of a read thing isn't it.

Some poor handling of Star Sapphire's second non-spell leaves much to be said; anybody have any idea what to do when she moves to the side of the screen? Because I have:
  • If Star Sapphire is around the center, then freeze from the bottom left/right-hand side of the screen. More specifically, just a little bit above, and when the rebounding ring begins to overlap.
  • If Star Sapphire is "one" space left/right from the center, then freeze from the top left/right-hand side of the screen, as per UKT.
  • If Star Sapphire is "two" spaces left/right from the center (approaching the extremities of the screen), then what do ???
I really don't want to use a bomb (or two) there, and would most probably want it either on the Spell Card before (that one is a bitch btw), or the non-spell before (first boss; more optimal this way), or other places.

Then to top it off, a rather poor Stage 3 where I die before getting some good freezan in before Luna Child made her ~*~grand entry~*~.

Also, it took me a while to figure out the Motivation / Freeze scoring "abuse". Perhaps a bit longer than I imagine it would, orz.

Second, the first two midbosses are fucking trolls.  They're cool in the other games, though.  Lily White, quit hanging out at the side and upper corners.  Lily Black, quit moving up and staying up there to ensure I get the least out of my bombs.
This has been the cause of much frustration where I restart out of RAEG in the past.

(/note: My mind always associates the word "Route" with Visual Novels before anything else, even if it's not the topic at hand (e.g. talk of Routes in 12.8, i.e. this). Jokes about the "Lily White and Black Route"'s have been made far too often IRL when I'm talking with my special friend, not that it's a bad thing)

You're right, and you probably figured this out but I'm guessing it's because the X2 score is retained when restarting past stage one.  Picking the second route again would bump the score list up one position because it normally shows you the X1 record, regardless of which one is higher.
That would basically sum it up.

Obligatory HOLY FUCK 100 million broken as well.

EDIT: Oh, so she did change my avatar when I gave her the computer to use, go figure. Oh well, not complaining about it.
EDIT 2: On a sidenote, gogogo this topic / scoreboard has like 10% of the views compared to UFO.
EDIT 3: Okay, no more edits unless I get a better score, which probably won't be happening any time soon given my current circumstances.

Finished both of these a short while back on the same day I said I would make attempts.  Postponed until I could muster the courage to enlist aid for the comment bit of the submission, so thanks a lot, Drake!  You're the best, and the extra choices helped a great deal.  Also, a thank you to someone else who probably opted to remain silent so I would step out of the comfort zone.

Easy - A1
Heartbeam - 31,124,960 - C - 0.080% - Replay

Didn't intend to do A1 as well, but I chose the route by accident, went through without remembering anything from the old run, and ended up too close to the original goal of 30M.  It's amazing how things click.  Give it another shot, get a bumpy run.

Easy - A2
Heartbeam - 38,044,400 - C - 0.160% - Replay

Screwed up an otherwise somewhat decent first phase of Lily White by choosing poor locations to freeze for the second phase.  There's that part after her where the large fairies drop in on both sides and the bullets converge...no analyzing at all so I don't know how to consistently bring out an additional minimum of 30K.  The rest left to boss movements, ending stage one with 100K less than the usual decent run.

Not much thought really goes into Lily Black's first phase, and I should care more at this point.  Her second phase was a little lacking, about 250K off from the predicted perfect setup without taking into account the missing potential of additional regular freezing, but it could have been worse.  Not exactly ideal to bomb from the start because she isn't centered, but putting it off could deprive you of a semi-good position that never appears again.  Well, I guess you'd restart anyway until it gets tiring, then you'll take whatever.  A fair bit of fluctuation with the freeze bonus for her final phase, not counting the one botched freezing attempt.  Proximity comes into question again.  Not freezing at 100%, so should I move closer without charging to try and graze more?  Or simply move closer while still charging.

There's that aimed knives portion in stage two, and I haven't tried anything new with it.  Maybe exhausting a freeze before the first one drops in, then I won't have to shoot it down and can continue with the 30% bursts.  Then again, I didn't have to shoot it down in the first place but that's the only pattern I'm used to.  Needs to do a fairly long freeze chain as well.

I don't know about the timing for Prism Flash, yet.  13K to 74K, whatever goes.  Again with Diamond Ring, there's no certain sense of timing that says, "This is the best for the boss positioning at this location, from this angle."  Lucky break there, ending the spell without compromising the timing of the freeze or going through the trouble of freezing the last wave after that.

Small things on stage three, like shooting at the fairies a bit before dropping the second bomb so they'll actually be frozen off instead of left standing there like I've always done it.  Same with the first bomb, even.  There's that regular freeze after the midboss; I want to try and catch the green bullets along with the rings.  Perhaps I should shoot less during the endstage second noncard and rely more on grazing for the meter.

So we have these little tweaks to make, some that aren't mentioned, and some that have yet to be discovered.  Even with these changes and getting perfect conditions for boss positioning everywhere, I can't foresee a 40M run.  ...no, of course I can.  It's in the back of my mind, and I'll hope someone manages it in the future (but I won't lose sleep over it).  No, I'm sort of cast in doubt about 40M again.

On and on, and details presented in a mumbled boring fashion, and I'll finish this post later.

Stage 3 was p suboptimal. I could've pushed for 88 "safely" but as expected, I messed up. No, not the "I got hit by a bullet" type of messed up (well, just a little...) but more "I'm not freezing the attack properly, thus my returns are smaller".

Mine on top, UKT's (current) on the bottom.

Theoretical is something like 12m / 27/8m / 90-93m currently.

Good watch; some higher-level dodging (in my opinion, though admittedly I've been taking rather large risks lately and it may just be "normal" for me). 7002% Total Area Frozen. Other runs that I've done have gone as high as 7.3k.

Side-comment, if it were possible, I would like it if you could get yourself "stuck" on Level 10; it's by far the best for scoring.

I'll cross-poast at the end of STGT. Even though I'm not participating.

Heartbeam stuff goes here when I'm not busy.

I got around to watching the run and I must say, it looks very, very different from what I would expect when it comes around to handling the stage(s).

>so should I move closer without charging to try and graze more?  Or simply move closer while still charging.
I think you can get away with being slightly higher / lower from the center of Lily Black's hitbox, and moving strictly in one direction. This way, you can still (hopefully) move out as required while simultaneously grazing additional bullets, but of course, testing would probably be required to confirm / deny this approach as being viable.

...I can't see anything actually wrong with your current approach (save for very few things that add what, a few extra thousand? hundreds? for example, freezing "rings" of bullets is better done just a bit out away from the boss as opposed to as soon as they spawn would cover a sliiiiightly larger area, ref: Star Sapphire's Mid-Boss Spell Card), but this might just be due to unfamiliarity.

Awesome stuff! Glad to see that you aren't letting go. :)

A shame, though, that your superior bombing reflex actually made you lose points in at least one place in the run. :V It really seems it's easier to make up lost motivation points than to make up lost score for a missed 80%+ freeze opportunity at this stage.

Bombed too early, some VERY, VEEERY stupid mistakes and some RNG giving me the middle finger. Everybody has trouble squeezing through rings. Pushing for 90m; 93 just seems too far off. Oh, and 996% or some nonsense like that; I wasn't in the mood for pushing it toward 1000% for this particular run when I have failed no less than 5 other runs (all entering Stage 3 at >700%) at varying %ages (from 200% to 600%).

12.5m, 28m, 90-91m seems reasonable.

Just because.  Not on Easy so of course it's going to be a stupid run.  About an hour ago I picked up Yyk's C2 replay and thought Hey!  This doesn't look so bad so maybe I'll give it a try on Hard.  How about a ballpark estimate of 67M.  The other ancient entries outside of the A route would probably go down without much trouble, but it'll be a waste of time as the succeeding runs won't be impressive and just as susceptible to being beat out if someone else cared enough to play the difficulty.  I might invest some time into C2 Hard...sort of doubt it right now.

The previous post was supposed to be finished?  I'll put it off again.

Easy - C2
Heartbeam - 37,633,940 - C - 0.050% - Replay

How does the 38M target look?  Better than before when I thought the entire run would be hinged on the outcome of Luna Child's opener and her Wall Break (2nd spell).  And to a much lesser extent her first spell, but it's about normal to get high and low numbers of 70K (sometimes 110K+) to 20K in any given run.  It still is, mostly, but at least I can raise the score in other places and make the 38M run come around that much earlier.  Too often I'm ending the stage with 11.2M and less when the run barely touching 37M did 11.5M.  Based on everything I've seen you could enter stage three with 12M.

When I come back to it, which should be in a few days again because I feel apathetic towards these games right now, I'll no longer be able to make myself ignore studying the stage.  Third one in particular.  There's too much fluctuation in the stage of about 150K, and one particular spell and noncard bring to question whether or not I should freeze early for almost twice the value, but deal plenty of extra damage to the bosses.  A balance needs to be worked out, probably more suiciding for the noncard.

A bomb was transferred out of the stage, costing roughly 200K but...where did I use that bomb?  The important part is being able to freeze one of the massive yellow waves for bomb stock and making it feasible to reach 1000% motivation while bombing the usual spots, but the benefit from moving the bomb, and the performance of this run with a stage two score of 11.4M...something doesn't add up.  Barely froze enough bullets to bomb the final spell three times, and I had to shoot down one of the side fairies before the final bomb finished for fear of it ending the spell (which it did, maybe with some help from the icicles).  So a side note that everything will count and I should freeze Ice Dissolver (second endstage spell) while shooting it down, and possibly during Fairy Overdrive when I can't reach them that well.  Bombing the massive yellow wave needs to be copied carefully.  Watch a run that worked better than usual, do everything.  Count the waves of bullets spawning.

(/note: My mind always associates the word "Route" with Visual Novels before anything else, even if it's not the topic at hand (e.g. talk of Routes in 12.8, i.e. this). That would basically sum it up.

Oh, even something like "A1 Route"?  I've had it creep up on me while writing up comments for PCB stage four and its boss battle, but I can't of an alternative as short and convenient as that.  Everything else sounds off, but "route" is fine if the mind isn't already influenced by other things.  Out of the very few VNs I've played, I can't remember the last time I touched one...I'd like to try out Umineko soon.

Oh yeah!  So, after making this post and thinking I should find a better input device, I began with a key remapper.  Nothing worked without jamming except for the numbers (at least bringing up the menu is convenient) and I tried that out for a while.  The directional keys on the laptop were very good, or I wanted to think they were, and I stayed with it until the keys locked up on me anyway and acted as though they were pressed down.  Happened on and off, regularly, no clue as to what I actions I should take.

Next up, bought a Razer Lycosa.  I wanted a regular one but the store I looked up and went to only had the mirror edition in stock.  I couldn't test the keys on the spot, but other keyboards were on display so I went around and fiddled with them.  A sales associate whose help I turned down when first arriving at the aisle approached me again 20 minutes later, making light of the fact that I'm still here.  In a nice lighthearted way.  He really was a genuinely nice person, and after opening the box to let me try the keys I couldn't say I didn't want them.  Didn't test them that long to be certain of the purchase, but I'm already nervous enough from being in social contact for that short period.

I tried it for a few days and decided it wasn't for me.  If you like quiet keys then have a look at these, but I could never be sure when I made contact.  I need that defining click.  Took some pictures before returning it because it looks nice.  Now the latest version of the SpeedPad, the n52te, was on display when I checked at a later date, and functioned quite well.  These games aren't important enough for me to be in a hurry to try it out, but there's a full refund if returned within two weeks.  And how long ago did I see this?  There's only my shyness stopping me from going out and buying it.

Another day when dropping by the store I saw several the Deathsmiles Limited Edition on sale.  Not wanting to be seen near the game for too long I picked out a case in the middle, glanced at it to assess the damage, and made the purchase.  I return home to see there's two creases on the corners, damn it.  They were still selling several copies a few days ago.  Hmm...

I've yet to play it.

Finally, while testing with the Razer Lycosa I thought of using the arrow keys on the laptop while the keyboard handled everything else, just to see how much better the keys are.  Then I realize I'm an idiot for not doing the same with the SpeedPad, and that's the setup I'm currently using.  I know there's much better out there, but no rush.

Now I've uploaded a raw video recorded about two months ago, partially to show the setup (and you can't even see the whole thing), more because of an inspiration from a certain someone.  Putting it up because there's not enough of its type but I'm not going to fix it, because I'm going to do it right in the distant future, because I think it's beyond repair because of that huge damn glare on the screen.  And I guess I should have tested somewhere other than the menu, like running the game a few times so I'd know it would happen.  I'm technologically impaired and don't have the slightest clue about properly setting up.  Using a camera, attach it to a study lamp where my head would be so I have to look at the screen from the side.  I don't even have it on a desk normally; the laptop is usually sitting on the floor.  The neck of the lamp blocks the screen so it's a little difficult to make small adjustments.  Don't know how to work with the focus while recording so if the camera itself adjusts the lighting for the screen to look decent then you can't see the keys, which is why I had to turn the lights (not the lamp) on.

Anyway, here if anyone is ever curious about the setup.  It's only PCB stage three (as if I would play anything else).  I'd enjoy seeing it from other people, preferably more than just a picture.

I'll no longer be able to make myself ignore studying the stage

I still don't want to study it.  I did until I couldn't find the replay that scored 574K on a single yellow wave, but I'll go looking for it again.  A previous run made better use of the first two yellow wave fairies after the midboss, scoring 640K, and I forgot to save the replay.  Not fully understanding wakaba's comment I feared he/she triggered the indefinite ending bug with a score like that, and watched to make sure.  It wasn't the case, but I picked up a helpful pointer for a regular freeze during stage two with the ring fairies after the midboss, gaining about 12K.

I forgot to consider the section after midboss Sunny Milk, which I pretty much suck at without a bomb.  I...think it's still better to go without for that part.  Maxed out the motivation or bomb stock during stage three when I didn't expect it, which made me worry over forgetting something, but it turned out okay.  Bombed a little early for one part of the boss battle, lost my head during the final spell because I was hyped starting from the end of stage two with 11.72M.  And to clarify, the bare 37M run with 855% motivation ended stage two with 11.58M.  I at least have some idea of what to do for Wall Break, which is wait for the obvious gaps which will eventually pop up, then bomb shortly after that.  Does it work...at least the bomb won't land when the gaps are wide.

Progression should be something like entering Lily Black with 700K -> enter Star Sapphire with 2.03M -> end stage one with 3.92M -> enter Luna Child with 6.1M -> end stage two with 12.1M -> end stage three with somewhere around...a nice sound number like 39M.  Off the top of my head.

There's some easy points to recover from stage three then hoping the stage two boss doesn't flop, but with the distracting goal out of the way I'm not worried about running it so soon.
