Registration disabled?

Someone just brought to my attention that clicking on the "Register" button results in a screen saying that registration is currently disabled. Judging by the member list, this has been going now since December 22, so ten days now. There are people trying to join the forums and wondering what's going on, so I would like to ask what's happening and when will registration be possible again.

Registration has been re-enabled for the time being. Hopefully the spambots don't ruin it for everyone again.

A friend of mine would like to join but registrations are currently disabled. Is it possible to send an invite to him to register as a workaround, rather than re-enabling registrations, or could you re-enable them for a limited period please?

This is for when you or another Admin or Staff is able to answer,for personal and public info,helpful anyways ,since the registration is still disabled (due to Spambots&Registring Spambots again in the new/last users again...)
Which one of this methods is used in the meantime? Has it been tried/done for the new-to-be-registred-user?

P.S.Thanks for informing us of the delay but of course it is to fix when able without higher priorities(like in fact a passing of a dear one/family/etc. and all the more if unexpected ).
