ReplayThere have been better moments with the books. Marisa's focused movement puts me on edge, and I forgot to stop shooting during Maze of Love.
Timing is volatile as ever. Counting in the head usually goes through too fast because of nervousness, and glancing at the graze count as an indicator can throw off the rate because of Patchouli's moving around, but perhaps she does it at intervals. Getting the feel for when the invulnerability ends...not really.
Even if the scores suck because of all these timing issues and the books at least there were Q.E.D. caps for both runs, which was sort of nice, especially for Marisa B.
Now some thoughts about Extra low-score attacks that shouldn't be put here...thank you to mikeKOSA for the inspiration. Ideally you would be shooting nothing as the score boost is quite large compared to the small gains from graze in this game. It would also be ideal to time out Maze of Love from the bottom to lower the graze count, so forgetting about that and instead looking at what's practical.
Very confident that a score in the 2M range can be attained. It's not unreasonable to expect a no-miss pacifist for the stage portion all the way up to the section where fairies drop in with the triple aimed pellet shots. Haven't made any attempts to go through without dying, so for now they (and the set before Flandre) will be shot down with a slightly powered shot picked up from running through all those power items (and 1up) dropped by Patchy. Important that you don't try to power up fully or problems may arise when you time out Starbow Break from the safespot, but I personally haven't checked to see if you can clear the POC before the items pop up.
The rest of the battle should continue to be pacifist, relying on the starting and extra lives picked up to survive the last 30 seconds of Q.E.D., only bombing on the last life and as the spell times out to extend the battle and spend the last two bombs.
As for surviving Flandre up to Q.E.D., the only spell I'm concerned about is Catadioptric. So far handled it at the bottom and a little off the right side of the screen. I don't believe I've ever had a wall-in problem, and all deaths so far are the result of overreaction and overshooting myself into a bullet. The other consideration is the area that's on the right side of the screen and a little below halfway up. I'd say it's slightly more difficult but less likely to give a scare.
Okay, barely exceeded the 3M mark now. Died to the books thanks to a poor choice of dodging position which made up for the stupid lucky dodge near the end of Philosopher's Stone, no-miss until the final spell. Reminded again that I don't know the best bomb timing / position for the survival spell to remove most of the bullets. Marisa B would sure help there, or I could be better off suiciding at the last second. There was still a chance for staying under 3M but I didn't remember to check if Q.E.D. timed out as soon as it reached 00 seconds or if there was another second to spare. All because of that the early bomb pushed the score over.
Back to Catadioptric. I think it works out better dodging higher up, but the question is the difficulty in returning to that position when the attack repeats. Perhaps I was too cautious and didn't try hard enough, I'll ask again during a future attempt. ...this whole thing feels like a waste of effort right this moment. So defensive, boring.
I'm happy with this. Clean all the way up to the suicide on the survival spell. Now what about going below 2M? The last spot with the heaviest grazing weight I can find is handling Maze of Love from the bottom, and that's about it. A little difference taking Silent Selene from the bottom. Another consideration is only shooting down enough fairies before and after the books to make surviving just manageable then leaving the others alone. Reimu A may be favored now that there's no need to try and bomb away the bullets on the survival spell. This is finished for now; let's move on to something else!
