Doublefine, Kickstarter, and HOLY CRAP
« on: February 09, 2012, 06:09:57 PM »
Tim Schafer had an awesome idea.  Hundreds upon hundreds of times, people have told him that they want more games like Day of the Tentacle, or Grim Fandango.  And he was forced to respond that no publisher was going to go in for a point-and-click adventure game anymore.

So he decided to try to cut out the middleman and put his idea up on Kickstarter.  The goal was to get $400,000 in about 5 weeks, which would give them around 8 months to get a new game out in October.  This Kickstarter was put up last night.

It look just over 8 hours to hit the stated goal.  Right now it's well over seven hundred thousand dollars.  Some quick math will tell you that this averages to just about forty dollars per backer.  In a way, people are basically preordering this game nine months in advance before it even exists, at over twice the stated price!  The amount of faith in Tim Schafer and Doublefine here is staggering, and it's also worth thinking about what this means for the video game industry and independent projects in general.

tl;dr kickstarter is badass, tim schafer is awesome, holy what people

I think I do have an idea - they're at over 900k and still going strong.

Cheating? I cannot even wrap my head around the point of it. Wouldn't you know you had cheated? How on Earth could you maintain crisp certainty of your superiority to all others? And if you're unable to do that, what's the point of anything?

Man, I wonder what it's like to have so much talent that people will basically throw money at you to make a game with no real concept laid out :V

1- Make good games
2- Ask for money to make even better games
3- ?????
4- PROFIT

There's no doubt we're gonna get Psychonauts 2 now at this rate.

Actually I think he said he needs around 20 million to make Psychonauts 2 so he's not quite there yet :derp:

Well shoot. :/ As much as I'd like to see an episodic release of the game, I'd rather not see it come out like Sonic 4.
