I've had this happen inside a Windows 8 Virtual Machine running in VMWare. I'm also messing with the game on my Windows 7 Host and in a Windows 7 Virtual Machine and have yet to see it happen in either of them.

I've not had it happen with battles specifically, it's more like when the game gets laggy and the framerate drops sharply that it's happened for me. Weird that it doesn't happen in the Windows 7 VM though; it's even laggier than the Windows 8 VM.

I tried running in compatibly mode (Windows 7), and it ran for about 10 more battles before freezing. Tried to update my driver, but as I don't have any backups of my stuff, I didn't want to risk having my entire computer wiped (Maybe once I find a place to store my stuff...). Here's a dump of all the item data. The missing Japanese is intermixed in with the working translations. It's possible 3peso just fixed typos or shuffled characters around, so the actual meaning hasn't changed any. But I can't really verify that myself.

I've taken a look at the changes in descriptions, and many of them seem to have been made to make previously very overt references much less overt, seemingly as an attempt to make them less spoilery (for example, Modified Taser no longer names Shionzaki sisters, nor does it specify in which chapters does "that event" happen in). Should I change the texts to reflect those, or just ignore them and use what we had before?

There's some mojibake near the end of a lot of those. Do you know what it's supposed to be? e.g.

The story scripts section of the string dump seems to be cutting off some text at the start of each line.

0119A328: だーほら来た！　全くもう！@いきなり出てきたと思ったら即コレなんだから！
0119A410: ま、私達。もう上に行く理由はないんだけどな。@せっかくならねー。

These two lines, for example, almost very obviously have something in front of them that got cut off.

Since I gave in and made a macro for b11f grinding, looks like I'm in for the long haul. As such, I'd like to try a hand at editing the IC's UI images if they could be dug out of the files... uh, presuming the main UI is images, that is. If it's actually text that'd make things easier <_<

I know nothing about Japanese, but there's no text in the executable before either of those lines.

Yeah I checked ingame and they were just displayed like that. No idea why. Probably 3peso himself got them cut off at some point.

...I guess there've been a bunch of patches since I last stopped a couple of years ago? Is there still anything left to be done or stuff that needs another pair of eyes to go through?

Far fewer patches than you might think.

I think everything but the dialog is done. One enemy skill related message (I think) was lost in the latest translation, but I haven't seen anyone mention untranslated enemy names, attacks, items, or anything else for a long time.

In addition to what RegalStar mentioned, the maingame credit scene after being the "final" boss is partially untranslated now. I think it the text was updated with the first PLUS-DISK release and the translation was never fixed.

Updated text files from RegalStar. I made some minor changes; mostly just getting rid of "?" and replacing with "...", as the single character was sometimes causing issues.

EDIT:
Finally fixed the problems with the strdump. I was missing two strings:

010CBA04: ｴｸｽﾄﾗｱﾀｯｸ発動準備
01113BA8: HPを5000回復する。が、最大LVになっても最大HPが1500を超える事はまずなく、ｽﾃｰﾀｽ減少と

Which is already translated as:
01113BA8: It also heals 5000 HP, but even at max level, HP is not likely to exceed

I also fixed the strdump_current file which was missing everything that didn't fit in the original space (i.e. whenever the English is longer than the Japanese). So here's a fixed version of that.

I was playing on version 1.203 and got as high (and low) a possible, so i checked if there was a new version. There was, so i downloaded it, got the latest translation files from the post above and the new exe from a couple of posts higher. Now both the english and the japanese exe claim they're not a valid win32 application. I have checked and this happens regardless of whether i put the translation files in or not. Please help, i have played for hours and i don't want to quit 90% of the way through.

Version 1.203 is for the main game, while the new files are for the plus disk expansion. You need to get the plus disk and apply it before you use the plus disk translation.

For now, you need to go find the version 1.203 translations files again and apply them. Your saves should still be safe, so once you get the 1.203 files back, you'll be able to pick up where you left off.

EDIT: To clarify what i meant by "getting as high and low as possible" is that there were no more staircases on those floors, despite the map on the wiki showing that there should be.

Wish I could help you. The only way I can think of is to try to get a fresh version of the game in another folder and work from there.

Is the translation a few posts above the final one? I have those cool main menu translation. But the 28+ floor dialogue is not translated yet, so reading the dialogue dump for that.

The only actual file you need for the translation is thlabyrinth2_out.exe , plus potentially img1/2 dxa from the older translations for some additional translated pictures/menus. Considering that's the only file that gets replaced, and it shouldn't give you an error like that even if you DID have wrong versions matched up, I have no idea what you did.

Like he said, I'd recommend just backing up your save folder, and making a totally new installing of thlaby2 that you can transplant your save folder to.
