Anyway, I'm confused by the left side of the picture, so I left it at that. Is it right if I leave the left side there like that? Or do I crop that off as well?

Do you have the original source?  I'd prefer the entire figure (including hands), from the waist up.  Transparency would be everything that isn't Marisa, IE the entire background.

Left the "motion lines"(?) in because I thought they were appropriate. I also sharpened certain parts of the image. 99% of it looks alright. Save for a few dots that somehow escaped my erasing. Also, shortened the ahoge point down (it used to be a bit longer) because it got really annoying to try and sharpen / crop and not make it look horrible.

Quite an image to be cropped. The hair behind Marisa's back had me worried for a second. Looks like I too a bit too much out of the cat ears though...

And... I still have that feeling that I'm forgetting to do something... apart from resizing(?).

what I saw on some game fora is that they have character faces as smileys. Like a happy face = smiling Reimu. Sleepy face = yukari. xD = cirno. naughty face = flandre.
That would be awesome :V

Those would have to be custom sprites.  I'm all for adding custom sprites, but our collective image editing skills/talent/interest are... somewhat lacking.

Sure, by all means.  Keeping them approximately Kamina-sized (see above) or smaller would be preferable (~25x25 or so), but I'll leave it to your discretion.
