It's extremely hard to write about a series you have no knowledge of, and when you try to find out you barely learn jack shit about it.
All talk and no show now? I set my contest to be entertained and hoped we'd get some new action out of it. If it wasn't to put anyone on the spot, then it's really not been worthwhile to give you the prize.
And thats exactly the problem. You see pesco, I dont exactly like being teased and plotted against by someone whom I barely know. If I'm going to chicken out of this one challenge, Fuck yeah, I'm going to. Again, It's decently hard for anyone to write a longer story then they've ever written before, on a subject they know nothing about. Being irritated also doesnt help my brain think up anything either.

Try to think of it as a game of little consequences?

I'm bowing out of judging for this first challenge.

Kips, you're going to pick my brain for this. Send me a PM, and I'll help you out with a very generalized synopsis of the LotR series, and I'll even proofread for you.

For fairness sake, I posit that someone else help Shadoweh if s/he so requests it - possibly another Librarian, or one of the Higher Idiots.

I wrote a 71 page story in three days for one part of Helepolis' IP challenge.

Thanks for the offer but I've read LotR and have a general idea of how boring it is how the story goes.  :3 A proofreader on the other hand.. as long as they like commas. Commas everywhere.

I just meant it's not supposed to be serious, just fun, and Kipz seems to be taking it as some kind of plot to humiliate him.

The only problem I have is that will the outline count towards the 1500 word mark, or no?

A question for Kips.

Wouldn't it have been easier to rent the movies and watch them than look over the internet for bits and pieces of info?  :derp:

A question for Kips.

Wouldn't it have been easier to rent the movies and watch them than look over the internet for bits and pieces of info?  :derp:
I'm pretty sure that if he watched the entire 9+-hour trilogy epic, he'd be even less likely to get the idea and win the idiot challenge. This is especially true if he gets the extended versions (20 extra minutes just for the Gandalf-Saruman fight? Cool but not necessary for plot understanding!)
That being said, I hope Kips doesn't throw the towel. This challenge is nothing too serious, it's just for idiocy, no?

I wrote a 71 page story in three days for one part of Helepolis' IP challenge.
English is my second language, I moved to Australia in 2007, and it was my first time ever writing fanfiction.
Just :dwi:
Holy moly. This makes this current challenge nothing! Given that 1 page (going by American standards, which have wider margins and uses letter size) is about 500 words single-space, it should be done in 2-5 pages without too much hassle. That's really not that much when you think about it.

Warning - while you were typing 5 new replies have been posted. You may wish to review your post.

....
Oh, and Esifex vs. Kitten's Proofreading fight should be extended for the Librarian position.

Either way this'll be fun.

Warning - while you were typing 2 new replies have been posted. You may wish to review your post.

Just brilliant.

I'd be a terrible Librarian :V. I don't spend much time in PSL except for a couple writers I like :P

And yes, I'm aware that was a joke suggestion.

My sister watches the three movies straight at least once a month. Straight. No pausing unless it's to change the movie after one is over.

Then again, she's a LoTR-tard much like I'm a Harry Potter tard.  :V

50 cents per topic. You're still viewing a topic's title even when you're not in one. That's ten dollars for merely visiting PSL if you have 20 topics per page.

I think as long as the game stays balanced, it doesn't matter where the help, if needed, comes from.

To clarify again: The scene should be roughly 1500 words. The outline itself does not have to have a specific length,  but it does not count towards that number. The outline should cover the main storyflow of LoTR, in your touhou-fied version of course. To give an example, there doesn't have to be a "battle on the Pelennor fields", but there needs to be some major battle at that point in your story.
Honestly, don't rush your stuff, you still have three days to go, there's plenty of time to add some more words every day and only submit near the deadline. You just might have some more ideas  ;)

No problems with the help given by people, btw, as long as things stay balanced as Ammy says. I'd rather have a nice duel with support than no duel at all  :3
