Title: [Music] Raga fools around with Ableton
Post by: Ragathol on January 07, 2014, 02:19:03 AM
Yes, like that. I've been wanting to make music for a long time, but haven't really gotten my ass in gear and found a program I liked. Now I'm using Ableton Live 9, which is rather pleasant.
I'm a total novice, but I'm practicing by making Touhou arranges, which of course is really damn hard when you're on "baa baa black sheep" level. So far, I've mostly done a bunch or intros.
It's mostly trance-like. I'm still figuring out how stuff works.

I have one finished song, an arrange on Orin's stage melody. I think it turned out pretty nice, with a little help from a friend:

Some other starts/practices:

https://soundcloud.com/ragathol/unowen-wip2 (https://soundcloud.com/ragathol/unowen-wip2) U.N. Owen was her? I dunno.
https://soundcloud.com/ragathol/bridge-wip1 (https://soundcloud.com/ragathol/bridge-wip1) That bridge no one longer crosses... sort of
https://soundcloud.com/ragathol/bamboo-forest-wip1 (https://soundcloud.com/ragathol/bamboo-forest-wip1) It kind of is the bass line from DDC stage 3
https://soundcloud.com/ragathol/love-magic-wip2 (https://soundcloud.com/ragathol/love-magic-wip2) This should be recognizable

You can see a bunch of other little bass lines and earlier WIPs if you poke around there, too.
Will update when I have something more, if anyone's interested.

You should have varied the harmony throughout the song, as it is it's pretty much one chord the entire way. You could easily use the wave at 3:44 earlier as well and use that to vary it up.

The snappy percussion added at 1:52 is really nice with the ambient feel, I like it.

Yukiro: Thanks! Cool that you like it.

Drake: Yes, I basically have no idea what I'm doing. I agree it's a bit repetitive, I'm working on learning some new tricks.
