Custom Screen Size & Other Fun Inconveniences
« on: February 25, 2012, 10:01:53 PM »
Kind of hurts to make a topic for such a simple question, but I'm having trouble finding the answer.

Is there a way to change the game's screen size at will, despite there being only 4 options? (MoF onwards) Do you need a patch for that?

I'm asking because I just got a wider screen and 640x480 fullscreen makes everything blurry (and faster) now.

You need Sizer, or something equivalent.

You could always just use the vsync patches. They've got options to change the size to whatever you want.
I figured out how to play midi in games with a different device on Win7 ^^

When I asked if patches were needed, I was mainly referring to those patches.

Is there no way of doing this without patches / external stuff?

Why wouldn't you want the Vsynch patches?

Even with vsync, you can't change the resolution in fullscreen, can you?

It's still just 640x480 stretched to fullscreen, so no. If anything you can make sure the aspect ratio is still correct, though, and even multiples of the window size does good as well (1280*960) I guess.

I have a natural tendency to stay away from patches unless needed. Anyway...

I did try vsynch just now, on MoF and UFO. Both failed to load.

For the newer games it's not a huge difference (though there is a difference), but for anything before MoF I would say it is NEEDED.
If they don't work try setting the input latency in the config to fast instead of automatic.

I just checked and MoF doesn't have it, but SA and everything after does. In the config.exe or custom.exe or whatever it is there should be section that says input latency. I don't know what's preventing it from working with MoF, but it might have something to do with settings for window mode or whatever (Or maybe you didn't name the files the right thing or something. There's a world of things you could do wrong so make sure it's all done right.) One way or the other I strongly suggest you get these patches applied. The difference they make is astronomical.

I've installed vpatch for MoF right after i've tried a game for a first time. I've noticed almost the same input lag as in EoSD. Though i havent noticed any in SA or TD.

Also i've got a 16:9 screen and playing fullscreen 640x480. Just adjusted it in video driver options not to stretch to the whole screen but only height (leaving black bars on sides).

And vpatch is also needed to play at 90 fps :D

I actually managed to get it running for UFO (due to... not naming the file according to the engpatched touhou... sigh) but it only works for fullscreen; everything else goes blackscreen. I couldn't manage to change the screen size either way.

I think you can change that stuff in the vpatch.ini. Enable window mode and set the dimensions and all that.
Spoiler:
And the framerate. You know you want to.

I DO want to, actually. Not for UFO, though. @_@

I actually spent time trying to understand binary once. It did not help me remember that one-digit numbers are sometimes included in binary as well. Oh well! :flamingv:

Okay nevermind I'm actually not that dumb and remembered swapping 0 for 1. Problem still exists.

Basically, from what I can tell, I DO have control over the screen size, it just blackscreens anyway unless selected as fullscreen.

And now apparently I have bigger problems. The new screen isn't the only thing I got: I also have Windows 7 now. I don't know how much this affects the games, or how much of this is the screen's fault (I know absolutely nothing about these things), but...

*) EoSD, PCB, IN, PoFV and StB don't load. EoSD's window actually shows up. The others - don't, and I have to close their processes @ Task Manager.
*) SA, UFO (suddenly!), DS and TD all work. TD has screen tears, though.

By the by, I don't know how much of this is psycological or not, but I suddenly feel like I've been playing in SUPER CLUMSY MODE this whole time. I managed to time out Iwafune up to T-10 seconds TWICE in like ten tries, for kicks. I... I really do not think this is in my head.

 ;-;

Oh, right. The patches essentially cancel the english patches. And I named them th**e. How to fix?

SUPER CLUMSY MODE = playing without vsynch. Now you see how the game is supposed to play.

You mean you named the games thxxe.exe? Just take the "e" off the end. The english patch will still be applied. Vsynch shouldn't cancel it.

As for everything malfunctioning I have no idea. You mean if you try to use vsynch they fail, or they just don't work in general? And just so we're clear here...
I know absolutely nothing about these things

I remember the patch not working competely when I dropped the 'e'. I guess I'll try again...

The games that don't work - don't work regardless of the patch. I don't know if it's because of my new system or what.

Edit: Tried dropping the 'e'. The games actually work, but they're still not in english.

Vpatch always searches for thxx.exe no matter wich language version it is. So just make a reserve copy of original thxx.exe and rename english-patched thxxe.exe to thxx.exe and it should catch it.
And.. So you see the difference between with and without vpatch on TD? :wat: Maybe i should try it too (And micrododge Miko's nonspells like a Jaimers boss!)

Yeah, name the japanese versions something different, like thxxj.exe, or it will just go for those instead.

Also to note for EoSD, you can't go naming it th06.exe. Instead, rename it to 東方紅魔郷.exe. (or if you're not using applocale or Japanese locale, name it ?????g????.exe (include that beginning quote, that's part of it))

English patches work.

Older games did not work, but only in fullscreen, apparently. They work when windowed.

Only problems left now are:

*) EoSD vsynch won't load.
*) PCB vsynch lags. UFO vsynch lags.
*) TD vsynch has screen tears.

Gonna bump this because, uh, yeah.

EoSD problem is fixed. PCB/UFO lag still exists but, eh, could be worse. Would still appreciate advice here, though.

TD screen tears are annoying as shit. Help??
