> You and Kouyoshi run for it, tearing past the hairballs and into the trees.  After a while, you've left the hairballs behind.
> Of course, you're still holding the one you accidentally burnt.

> You check on the hairball.  The little thing stares at you with slightly burnt fur and a permanently shocked expression.

> You pet the hairball, and it starts squealing.
> "Did it seriously say 'mii'?"  Kouyoshi leans over to get a better look at the hairball.

>"Y-yeah. It did. I didn't know these things could do anything close to talking."

> "Eh, who knows what they could do."  Kouyoshi pokes the hairball, and it squirms.
> You can't really tell.

> You deem these squeals to be that of happiness, and dub the hairball "Mii".
> The two of you plus Mii continue walking.  Time seems to stretch out endlessly; the walk continues in relative silence, although having Mii in your arms certainly keeps you entertained.  When you pass by tall plants, it reaches out and bites off leaves, chomping on them loudly.  Kouyoshi says something about their eating habits, and you continue on.
> The trees are starting to thin out.  You feel a pleasantly cool breeze.

> You run ahead, passing by the trees and finally emerging from the forest.
> It's a wheat field.  A huge, rolling ocean of gold.  The cloudier sky is exposed here.  Youkai Mountain is so close that when you look up, you can't even see the top.  It looks like a giant here.
> Somewhere in the distance you can the outline of trees.

> Kouyoshi emerges from the trees and joins you in looking at the vast landscape.  Her jaw drops a little.

> "Ah."  Kouyoshi holds on to her hat as she follows you into the wheat field.
> You keep running; you could keep this up for hours.  It's just wheat, wheat everywhere, and perfectly flat ground.  You could keep going, or try moving closer to the mountain if you wanted.  The wheat gets pretty close.

> Um... we were supposed to go around the mountain, right? Let's not get closer: we don't want kappa throwing taking our souls.

> Let's keep walking! See if Mii will eat wheat!

> You keep walking and hold Mii out, to test if she'll eat any of the wheat.  She nibbles at a nearby stalk and pauses for a moment before jumping out of your hands and starting to devour the rest of the wheat.
> "Beats me."  Kouyoshi shrugs.  "I don't see any buildings nearby."

> "Oh, so maybe it's just wild wheat? Okay!"
> Let's keep going, but make sure that Mii's following.

> You keep walking through the wheat, taking care to make sure that Mii doesn't leave your sight.  After a while, you think you see something in the distance.  It looks a bit like a person.
