I would say that's a bit big to be a regular emote, but given the other things we've made emotes, I guess I have no real room to cast that judgment.

I think by 'big' Kilga is talking about resolution here, but it's also almost 800kb which is roughly 5 times our image size limits. I'd be more inclined to support doing it if someone could reduce the image size down far enough without it looking it like crap either.

Hey, since nice clean swathes of color are pretty easy to compress, bringing the quality up was probably the best way to cut down the size. :3

The original emoticon behind those has a bit of a history. I believe it started out as a sarcastic/mocking/trolling smile emote on SomethingAwful, but was later taken up elsewhere and overused into meaninglessness, particularly on 4chan. Last I heard, the SomethingAwful forum tag for it was changed from :awesome: to :iamafag:, though I'll admit that quite a while ago, now (I don't know if it's been changed again). So it's... not entirely popular at this point in more self-conscious corners of the 'net.

For that matter, we definitely don't need one for each person in Gensokyo. Though I'll admit liking the subversion with Shiki's.

The only one I'd even come close to considering ever wanting here is the Shiki one, just because I like it.

That smiley is so damn overused everywhere I wouldn't mind if I never saw it again. Hell, my 11-year old brother was drawing it on a restaurant menu a while ago. Turns out he saw it on Flipnote Hatena on his DSi.
