THE GENIUS OF SAPPHEIROS
TRANSLATION PROJECT

The Genius of Sappheiros (東方蒼神縁起, romanized Touhou Soujinengi, meaning Blue God Omen) is a traditional turn-based RPG released at Comiket 78, heavily influenced by traditional console roleplaying games such as the SaGa Series. Despite being an RPG, it follows a traditional Touhou stage-based format, with each stage being its own dungeon.

NOTE:
Translators: Personally, for right now, I prefer quality over quantity; overbuilding then subtracting rather than building a little and adding piece by piece, so go wild with it. You still have to keep \n 's in place if they exist on the table.

If you open a table that is marked on here as "In Progress" and you are not the translator assigned to finish the table, do NOT upload your own translated table on here; it gets incredibly annoying both to me and the person working on that table. Instead, just post suggestions on what may be interpreted differently (i.e. Nazerine asking on Youmu's three stances); it allows the translator who is working on it to make the changes before they upload their table and thus makes it more efficient.

If the files aren't too large, I can probably work on a few of them (for example, I do freelance translations, and I've been working on a japanese MMO, where the scripts are usually 500-1000 lines each).

Thanks for the thread!

Two questions--first, what are "クイック"/"瞬間" status effects, "ヴァラエティ"/"変化" status effects, and "パーマネント"/"永続" status effects? I haven't played far enough to figure it out.
Second, can whatever font package is going to be used for the item names and descriptions handle accents? (?/?/?)

"Quick"/"Instant", "Variety"/"Change", and "Permanent"/"Permanent". They are the various status effects in this game.

Quick status effects (such as insta death) are, quite literally, instant. They do not last for any period of time, they are simply a status effect that is inflicted to do something (like insta death).

Variety status effects would be something along the lines of buff or debuff skills. They will last for a set amount of turns before wearing off. There can only be 5 of these in effect at the same time, and a new one will overwrite the oldest one in effect.

Permanent status effects would be effects that last either until death or until the battle is over, or until it is dispelled, such as blind or poison. As only 1 of these can be in effect on the same character, a new effect will overwrite the old one.

I've "finished" the items half (first 808 lines) of the items file--I believe TranceHime is doing the skills?
Anyway, I haven't proofread it all the way through yet, and there are a few things in there which might be open to interpretation. In particular, I was aiming to not have generic item names, so if I went too far, please do speak up (but also keep in mind that 80% of the weird names are the same in Japanese). In the same vein, I, for one,

would like to translate Byakuren's last two weapon names into Sanskrit. I think it would look cool.

Hi dudes

I'm the person doing translations for the skills in Genius of Sappheiros.

If you want me to work fast, you had better impose a deadline on me or I'm going to take my time with it - my second semester of uni has started and my free time has cut a lot. Furthermore I have my own development project (SNAAFU ADVENTURE). So if other people are interested in taking up the mantle and helping out in translation of skills and stuff do notify us here.

I have so far only translated the first 20 or so skills, but I can easily speed this up if we're running under a timeline.

Finding changes to the tables shouldn't be so bad. Just get Windiff, then compare the two versions (use a backup of the untranslated old version) to spot the differences.

I might help with that sort of thing later if you like but for now no because I've already been slow at finishing up tpw... This last month has sucked and I just don't have the drive to work on my free time ATM.

Read the manual...

Variety= buff/ debuff only
Quick means an "!" pops up, stuff like chasers, barriers etc. No  "!" = not a quick effect. They last for that turn only.

Everything else is a permanent, it doesn't mean they last the whole fight several do wear off (paralysis) or get dispelled by being attacked (charm, confusion)
Instant death is a permanent.

I've tried permanent barrier vs insta death, it didn't work. The quick barrier however, did.

Quick barrier? on who? I don't see any barriers that can block quick effects on the wiki.Edit, ok the wiki is wrong about what reimu's barrier does (it can't block variety effects but can block quick)

Well, I can't magically say "finish it when 1.05 patch comes out" because that's obviously not feasible, isn't it? I still don't know the timeline yet.

I can't exactly... vouch for the accuracy of the wiki; the only things I know is that Hime translated skill names and gave me the descriptions for every character's Personal Weapon skills. Or so I know.

Instant death is a permanent.
My theory is that instant death is indeed a quick effect, the permanent effect technically is that you've fainted. Yeah. Shrug!

I'm working on Emil Chronicle Online. It's going slow since I'm basically the only translator for several hundred scripts, but the work's not too bad otherwise. I actually did consider playing Yogurting at one point, but I couldn't get it to work. It was on my old PC though, maybe I should give it another shot.

If you want, send me all the tables that aren't already being worked on, I'll sift through them and figure out what I can work on in a reasonable amount of time. I've done scripts for ECO that went up to 3000-4000 lines of code, but I kind of lost my head when I received the itemdb, which was 12000 or so lines of chinese AND japanese text, which was a real pain in the ass to look through. As long as your scripts aren't in 2 different languages, I can probably handle them. I don't really care about spoilers since I'm getting kind of lazy around Eientei (been there for almost a week and I haven't budged an inch). That and I haven't really been paying attention to the story thus far anyway due to my "screaming at the top of my lungs" during boss fights.

Actually, it's really too simple, so I'll give you both the music table and the help book table.

Same deal as with Syanas's files. I don't know what will happen if you change the filenames for the music table (oh no!). Also, don't remove the \n's from the help book table. I am just covering all the bases, that's all.

Nazerine:
The item table really needs a lot of editing, doesn't it? We'll do it together!

Some things to note:
-- You didn't have to remove the enemy weapons from the table, they should be translated and stay in the table anyways. The only reason they're in there is to give their normal attacks an attack animation.
-- Some of the descriptions and spacing sound really weird in English, but that is probably going to get edited!
-- In Row 707, you missed the name of an accessory: オンバシラ

In conclusion,
pfft-ft-ft, Sexy Underwear. You are now suddenly imagining Byakuren in Sexy Underwear.

EDIT: Yes, I did mention that I won't be super fast with this and I did say that feel free to do some stuff yourself but at least have the courtesy to TELL me that you plan on doing it so we can decide which lines to TL and fix up so we don't TL the same shit, because I was already in the midst of TLing the first half...

"Within Best" is something else I'd thought of and discarded because it simply doesn't make sense. "Wheezing Vest" is something a friend thought up for me, and while it kind of does sound like something, it wouldn't make sense for a passive sword skill.

And as for "Leg Through", it doesn't really make sense for an attack skill. Maybe "Leg Slew", but I'm not entirely sure, since anything involving the legs probably wouldn't give a Daze status effect.

Sorry, I didn't realize we were working on the same script. We could trade notes though, since I've already finished all of the weapon skills, and I've taken a short break at Reimu's abilities. Or I could move onto the monster.csv.

I have to admit, the wiki isn't completely inaccurate, and in some cases it's more creative than the literal translation, so I decided to use some of them. A few of them were pretty inaccurate in name and in description, so I used the correct translation in the file. For the most part, it's my own translation, but I am looking at the wiki to see if there's any other name used for it (in case people get confused).

okay, I've sent you a PM and we can discuss in private how we're going to to this

I think it was a problem of bad communication here, since I believe the ability table Choja sent you doesn't actually HAVE every ability in it, whereas I'm translating the skills/abilities half of item.csv and there's a lot of overlap. I mostly overreacted because I had just gotten up and spent 1 hour getting to uni
