Hm, I don't see a patch.xp3. Am I supposed to make it with the kikiriki program?
Yeah, that's what I meant. Sorry.

So the command line would look like

kikiriki.exe -c -i gyakuten/scenario -o patch.xp3

Is that right?

Without the /scenario. All the files are supposed to in the gyakuten folder (should have specified that, sorry again...)

But that's just the same as before. I'd still have to recompile all of the files every time I wanted to check my edits. I want a way to just change the text files without having to do that. If that's not possible, that's fine. I'll just have to deal with it.

Well, you'd only have to compile the edited files which is still better than compiling all those images, but yeah I see what you mean.
There might be a tool for edit-checking here. It's a list of tools for this kind of game.

If I could do that, I would, but don't I have to compile everything for the game to run? Sorry, but I'm really confused as you what you're trying to say. If I compile everything in gyakuten folder, like you said earlier, that includes all the pictures and stuff. Break it down for me because I'm kind of stupid when it comes to technical program stuff like this.

...ohhh... OH. I see the misunderstanding you have. I'm really sorry. This is a prime example of me having terrible communication skills.

Let's say, for example, the only files you edited are text.txt and image.png
Both of these files should go in the gyakuten folder, and only these files. They don't need to be in a subfolder. The command would be
kikiriki.exe -c -i gyakuten -o patch.xp3
Then you put patch.xp3 in the same folder as gyakuten_touhou.exe and run the game. There's no need to compile the exe or any of the unedited files

Since I'm mostly waiting on other people for my book, I started working on this some more. The prologue for the first case is pretty long though.

It looks like there are only 4 cases in the first game. And I don't want to give away the plots. It should be a surprise. :P

Anyway, I've finally translated all of the prologue. Now for the first case proper...

I would send you the pictures and the translations, and then you would make pictures of the exact same size using the translations.

Hmm... Well, I can try doing that.

Although it's entirely possible that it will be beyond my limited image-related capablities. Just send me one or two to try as a start and I'll tell you if I'm up to it or if you should get someone else. >.>!

I suppose, but I might give it a shot first before I ask others.

But as far as progress goes, I have finished translating the entirety of the first case! All that's left is proofreading and making sure the text looks neat, then I can move onto the second chapter after I play through it.

And just as mysteriously, the imageboard lifted their ban on Japanese IPs. :V I made a thread asking for help as far as drawing stuff goes, but for simple typesetting, I can do that just fine on my own.

Anyway, I just finished the second trial. Third trial, near as I can tell, is about

Well, I met with the circle behind this series at Comiket and I mentioned the fact that I was translating the game and suggested they made the patch official and put it somewhere like DLsite so foreigners could have access to the game. Unfortunately, they said that they "couldn't support" something like that, so w/e, their loss. I guess if you guys really want to support them, it's not like you can't ask me to buy a copy for you.

Also, they released a new edition at Comiket. Seems a bit lighter in content, but I won't be able to get to it until much later anyway.

He never told me to stop, just that he couldn't support it. :P Maybe he was worried about legalities and things like that.

From your other post, you also asked them if they could support the idea of distributing their games in places like DLsite. I think that's what turned them off, rather than the idea of distributing a translation patch--Many circles that create Touhou-related games (including Shanghai Alice) reject the idea of download-based distribution for fear that they may inadvertantly commercialize their games. They prefer to have people come and experience doujin conventions like Comiket/Reitaisai and get their games that way. That's why you never see ZUN selling any of his titles on DLsite.

If they didn't want to support a translation of their games, they probably would've requested you to stop translating right then and there.

Also, how's the translation effort going along?

I considered that viewpoint too, but if you're going to share your game with people who aren't able to go to these events, that's the best way to do it. Also, the same circle sells their games in doujin shops, and I don't see how DLsite, a website specializing in selling doujin comics and games, is any different.

And I haven't worked any on the game in the past few days due to Comiket, but I finished the entire first day of the third case before that.
