This is the Pokemon X and Y general thread, where we talk about the game and the meta of it, while actually playing it. The announcement thread has almost reached the posting cap, so it would be best to start our discussion afresh in a new one.

Vivillon Trading
If you don't already know, Vivillon's pattern in the game is dependent on the 3DS's country, with there being a few many patterns for each country in the world. One single pattern is selected out of the possible pool when you first load the game, so to get the others in your pool, and other ones not in your pool, there's only one thing to do; trade.
And what better way to do it than with an international community! Simply post your Vivillon pattern in the thread and I'll add it to a table here (or in the Friend Code section) so that we can all make our teams filled with colourful bugs.

Mega Stone/ Version Exclusives Trading
Some Mega Stones are unique to one version, and as usual there are version exclusives. Most notably, the Larvitar and Aron lines are unique to version, while their Mega Stone can only be found in the other version. Another excellent marketing ploy by Game Freak.

Just got back from picking up my game. Gamestops make my skin crawl, but they had the release well-organized and everyone was in and out in a couple of minutes.

once per battle, you only lose the mega evolution for the battle if he faints

A tip to anyone who wants two Gen 6 Pokemon and doesn't care much about their Gen 1 starter, check the GTS for what people are trading for. I was able to get Fennekin for Squirtle pretty easily.

I've caught a lot more, but nothing I felt like leveling, and I've not had a proper look on the side route yet.

EDIT: Got my Butterfly. Garden Pattern. Largely green wings with some red and yellow.

I was gonna attempt to sleep so I could get up earlier, but screw it, my pattern is messed up anyways.  Gonna wait for Gamestop to open and get me my game in about 3~4 hours.

I didn't like Vivillion very much at first, but hearing that it gets different patterns based on country sounds pretty neat.  I've wanted to see them do more things with Pokemon being aesthetically different.  Do we know what happens when you get a pre-evo of Vivillion from another game and evolve it in yours?  Does it keep the pattern from the original owner, or does it get the pattern in your game because it wasn't already a Vivillion?

You know what I realised?

I've not actually swung with Bulba since Gen 1.

I'm gonna use a Bulbasaur, especially since I expect 90% of people to go with 'Zard, and the other 9% to go with Squirtle. Let's breathe some new life into Bulbasaur, especially with Fairy being around.
