> Screw it. We can't let people die in front of us again.
> Stop at the apartment and get inside, using time-stop when necessary.
>You swerve the bike around and rush off as fast as possible. This time...this time no one dies because you couldn't act.
>Both you and Dayna get off the bike at the same time, letting it clatter to the floor as you run up to a crouching woman. "Is there anyone still inside?!"
>She stares at you with bloodshot eyes, drenched in tears. It's a chilling contrast to her dessicated, burnt out appearance. "My...my nephew...on the fourth floor..."
>"Dayna! Take care of her!"
>You rush into the apartment block without hesitation, one arm over your mouth and the other already reaching for your knife.
>Cinders and debris rain steadily from the weakening ceiling. The fumes are suffocating, It's hot...really hot...
>Somehow, despite the crumbling stairs and roaring flames, you make it to the third floor.
>You can't hear anyone in here...the fire and groaning wood is too loud...tch. Weak. Focus more. This is nothing...focus...focus...
>...got it. Your senses, supernatural and mundane, meld together. You hear the boy crying out for help...on the left apartment!
>The door shatters from your kick, already weakened by the fire.
>"Are you...," a series of coughs interrupt you, but you won't let that stop you. "Are you in here?!"
>A hacking sound responds. "O-over here...please..."
>There he is! Curled up in a corner, shying away from the flame. You rush over and slide him onto your back. "It's okay kid, we're gonna be alright. Just hold on, I'll get you to your auntie..."
>He coughs a few times before replying. "Is...is auntie okay?"
>Despite the situation, you smile. "Yeah. She's fine."
>It's going well, you'll make it out of here alive and unharmed...is what you thought before.
>The stairs are blocked. With a grunt of exertion, you kick in the railings to the stairs and hop down to the level below...but that creates a problem all on its own.
>The force causes the already shaky building to stir. Something snaps...right above you. A burning banister descends upon you, the child on your back screams in shock, and you can't move fast enough to get out of the way...
>Pffft.>You emerge from the building unharmed, save for some minor burns and a very bad cough. The child is worse off, but he'll be okay. Firemen arrive on the scene just in time to see you fetch out the last survivor; you're not mad, figuring it'd end up like that, but it's ironic.
>As the paramedics give you a check (not to mention Dayna lingering near you like a shadow) near their ambulance, you hear a familiar voice to the side.
>" 'k-kenzie?"
