If you were able to choose any one place in Gensokyo to live, where would it be? And no, you don't have to be human - you could choose to be any species you wanted, to give you more freedom of places to choose from.
Why would you want to live there?
What do you think a typical day in your life would be like?

Speaking for myself, I'd like to live on Youkai Mountain.
The view would be nice, and as a tengu, I could swoop down from there onto virtually anywhere in Gensokyo.
A typical day in my life would be fact-checking Aya's stories - itself a time-consuming task - then maybe popping on down to Hakurei Shrine in the evenings to see if there's a party going on. Also, because the Touhou wiki says Kaguya likes conversation and to show Lunarian artefacts to guests, I might try and pay her a visit, for the stories, and to keep her company.

A kappa, living in the kappa town under the mountain behind the waterfall, as a kappa engineer, with my own kappa laboratory. I'd share plans with Nitori, build tanks and random stuff with Rika whenever she drops by, go down to the village every now and then to sell my inventions to villagers or Kourindou, get hired to fix consoles, computers, etc. at Eientei for the resident NEET, Kaguya, probably argue over electricity rates with the Tengu upstairs, and essentially binge on cucumbers.

As a human or fairy, SOMEPLACE SAFE.
Otherwise, I would probably be a wandering storyteller tengu. The adventure of being able to traverse Gensokyo coupled with being able to meet/hopefully befriend everyone sounds appealing.

Mahou no Mori is the best place to relax. Somehow I'm curious how to befriend with those light fairies plus, if something bad happened, you can seek protection at Alice's house.

Hmm...when I try to think about it, I really don't know.
If I were Youkai, most likely the Youkai Mountain, or the Underground City. Human, definitely either in the Human Village or the Hakurei Shrine.
Typical day...
...in the Youkai mountain I'll just be walking around, maybe travelling around Gesokyo, but mostly enjoying the view from the Mountain.
As a human, either farm to live in the village, or help out Reimu and stay as close to her as possible in the Shrine.

If not, Hakugyokurou sounds like a pretty sweet place to exist. It IS meant to be the Buddhist Pure Land, after all.

I'd feel most at home in Makai, I would believe is fairly peaceful to live in, given the fact that everyone around you there is a demonic entity and the ruler is also it's creator, besides those factors I wouldn't put it past me that Makai would be just like living in the human village only with a minimal threat of Yukari involvment and what not.

... though if the term "live" isn't taken literally, then I choose Hakugyokurou so I can spend the evenings eating Sakuramochi (lol cannibalism) in a hammock with Yuyuko under the blossoming Saigyou Ayakashi beneath the moonlight.
El Palacio de los Espiritus de la Tierra also sounds like a fun place to be. Though maybe not for humans. I might have chosen Eieintei if I was sure I wouldn't walk out of there with some weird infection/horrible disease/mysterious condition/extra limb/etc.

I would be some kind of Youkai.
Seems like a nice place to scare people since a lot of powerful things supposedly live their.
My typical day would be searching for humans and scaring them away. Maybe I would help them back to the human village if they were honestly lost, but then I would tell them to tell others they barely escaped with their lives after meeting me. Why would I do this? Honestly scaring people is perhaps one of the most fun activities to me and doing so as a more powerful being would be many more times fun!

I would be a Youkai living in the Scarlet Mansion. Mostly do to the fact of millions of books there. Probably read all day and go on the internet. A computer proved by Rinnosuke. When I feel the need to exercise I go and pick fights with other Youkai to test my abilities.

Mayohiga. That way if I ever have to leave I can take something from my house with me and be guaranteed a lifetime of happiness. You can't say that for any other part of Gensokyo.

Makai doesn't count as part of Gensokyo, does it? Though I'd probably prefer the SDM, seems like it would be lively there. Or at least the library would be.

I guess I should elaborate on why I would want to live at the Moriya Shrine and what I would do.
Why: Sanae. And Suwako. It would be a great life, living at the Moriya Shrine; I'd be surrounded by my favorite Maidens! :D
What I would do: Become the most devoted patron EVER to the Moriya Shrine. I'd be spending so much time there, that I'd simply become a part of the residents there. I'd be going on errands while Sanae keeps the gods' antics in order. I'd likely end up sleeping and eating there simply because of all the time I spend there. And going on errands for Sana would let me make regular visits to the rest of Gensokyo, which would be awesome.

They're actually nice people. Klutzy devil is a moe of its own, but you do have to feel sorry for her. Remi doesn't drink blood directly from people. That's a common misconception. Flan though... Yeah...
But you're right. It's not a place for normal humans to be in.

Well i would most want to live at the Hakurei Shrine or the Moriya Shrine.
If none of those places i suppose a small-time residence in the human village would prove a nice place the live. Though before i am ready to move there we need to have Nitori arrange for electricity in Gensokyo and Yukari to arrange some way to import stuff from the outside world.

Being a half-human Youmu probably can triple class though. Fighter/Mage/Cleric ftw!
(humans can't triple though, since they can't multi, but they can dual as Marisa clearly shows as a classic example of a Mage/thief)

I'd be a half youkai/human and live near the human village (outskirts)or the Forest of Magic. Mostly because i'm a loner kinda guy and want the quiet area.
Typical days would be like...going to town to shop for food if needed or other things, visitin the SDM to play with my "dear" friend Remilia and whatnot. Do odd jobs for Keine, Eirin, Reimu, Satori or other people needing work done. Trek to youkai mountain to give the Moriya Shrine some donations and faith perhaps. Visiting the Underground in winter and having a second home there or in the city area of it. Of course I'd still visit Remilia nonetheless hehe. Just trying to stay on everyone's good side so they won't attack me ._.

Hmm, I just got to wondering. Realizing all the dangers that pose a threat to your life and all the horrible ways to die, would you want to live there as a human? If I had to be human I would risk it just for a shot at unnatural power!
But I would want to start out in the human village for... obvious reasons.

For me, it would have to be the Forest of Magic. The idea of living in a secluded place full of natural beauty would be ideal.
My typical day would probably involve wandering aimlessly, gathering whatever it is that I need to survive in moderate comfort, just relaxing, or experimenting with various hobbies.

I think the forest is actually one of the safest places in that aspect. I don't remember any aggressive youkais living there... probably Marisa and Alice's fault (especially Marisa). I do think it's crowded with fairies and other low-level stuff though...

Except I think most fairies aren't outright aggressive, luckily. Bumping into Rumia or Mystia would be a SERIOUS issue though and whoever comes close enough to SDM to be in China's sight is very probably dead.
As a human living in Gensokyou I believe I'd look up to Reimu and Marisa and would make my best to pick up magic. Ideally I think I'd wish to be at a level somewhat... say, a slightly hard stage 3 boss. Strong enough to fend off 90% of the problems and not strong enough to pick up the attention of the strong people. That and try and make friends with said strong people whenever I could. Yukari's gang and the people of Youkai Mountain come to mind, both groups being "approachable" (the first one through Chen and the second one through Aya and Suwako (Also Sanae to a lesser extent))

Canonically Youkai are weak against traditions and religion, so carrying a bunch of ofuda around should protect you from anything up to team 9. That won't protect you from anything from stage 3 and up, but those can't be everywhere at once with the possible exception of Yukari and even if they do run into you they aren't aggressive unless you do something dumb.
And if you run into Yuka you could probably just run away. ZUN himself claims that she's slow, after all.

I would definitely pick the Scarlet Devil Mansion because I love the architecture, and given how much resources the entire mansion has, I could probably live comfortably forever. Good food, sleeping quarters, lots of room, a library, everything.

Well, if encounters with her from EoSD serve any measure, she "attacks normally" and finds excuses to eat you anyway. But if you managed to talk with and convince her that you have business with patty, Remi or Sakuya you would very probably be let in (good luck making it out then..)

The Mountain of Youkai might be good to live on... Tengu of wind incarnation, kappa of ally to human, scrupulous green miko, 2 gods of the heaven & the earth... I could go to talk with them on the Mountain...
But I'd live on Scarlet Devil Mansion. On every morning & night, I'd eat breakfast next to Hong Meiling, chatting this or that thing about the outer world or the plants in the Garden. And on the daytime, I'd read books in the Library. Sometimes play with the purple librarian(?) and say "Excuse me, Ms. Knowledge. I've been feeling that you get more brilliant, beautiful if you wear a pair of glasses. And I'm sure that your wearing this pair of glasses makes you an extremely high existance, and I would get crazy".

Would like to live in the Mayohiga as a human getting lost lol, but seriously I'd pick up the place because I like quiet place and Mayohiga seems to fit my preference. That, or the Sanzu no Kawa, and I heard it's a wonderful place to visit this summer.
