>Do we have bad history with Hakutaku or something?

>Very.
>You used to terrorize the Mikado as a sign of defiance against the Yamato's dominance over the land, back in the old days. The hakutaku generally served the Mikado in some fashion. Conflicts sometimes happened. You never were able to take one out, but they never got you either and you always got away. You suppose it's kind of a defunct issue these days, as the emperor has no influence over these lands, but it's still annoying and doesn't change that they kneeled when they should have refused.

>"So, what does this mean for you? I'm glad that you're being straight up about this, though."

>"I stopped caring a long time ago," says Mokou. "To be honest, so had she. But, you know how it is with rivals. If they were a pain in the past there's a good chance they haven't changed. Heh."

Yeah, I totally missed that because I was starting from the wrong place.

>You keep calm. Just there's no use in not acknowledging to yourself when you're lying.

>"Well, I guess we'll see then, eh? Depends on what that rabbit's got to say for herself."

>Mokou nods, then she loudly says, "Alright, you lot, closin' time! Don't start groaning, either. It's not like we're even selling anything right now, and I'm not being paid to babysit you anymore!"
>Amidst much grumbling, the pub clears out while Mokou watches them with crossed arms. It's rather like closing time at your own place. "Alright, let's go," says Mokou.

>You follow along after Mokou; at least she leaves an easy wake. Soon enough, the two of you have left the village and are walking down the road. The western sky is a palette of lovely colors, but the sun itself makes it a little difficult to look in that direction.

>"Avoid the princess," says Mokou. "She's the worst. A born scoundrel, able to hide a lie behind veils of courtesy or silliness. She's not nearly as dumb as you might think.  Don't trust her. Then there's the doctor. Don't trust her. She wears her deviousness on her sleeve, and she's kind of honest because of that. But you never know when she's working for the princess. Reisen is alright for one of their goons. But be careful, she is extremely dangerous in a fight.  Do not get on her bad side. Then there's the rest of the rabbits. They aren't bad, on the whole, but they can be a bit dumb or selfish. Thing is, all these people work for the princess, so you can't let your guard down around them."
